AM is rapidly approaching my like count
Italian scum haunter is like #3 (shoutout to the man though, keep it real in PS lobby)
alexwolf still has more likes than v at this point come on you idiots
Anyway, this is actually a team that I would like to improve on, but due to my general lack of OU knowledge I don't know what changes to make without throwing off the general flow of the team. It performs well against a fairly large portion of the metagame, assuming I play right, and has brought me to Round 4 of a Smogon Tour, beating some fairly big names in the process in Reymedy and Steve Angello. (It was week 1 - I didn't have time week 4 unfortunately.)
This is an offensive team based around a Mega Pinsir sweep. It uses a couple unorthodox sets on normally defensive Pokemon (Shuca + 4 Attacks Heatran and Specs Rotom-W) to help remove Pinsir's checks as well as some more standard fare.
-----
Pinsir @ Pinsirite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Return
- Close Combat
- Quick Attack
More people should use this. +2 Return does crazy shit like 75% min to physically defensive Hippowdon. Shit's fucking insane man. Pinsir is an absurdly powerful sweeper that has some difficulties setting up but is absolutely explosive once it does. Hyper Cutter is nice to prevent random Intimidate Pokemon from slowing it down as it Mega Evolves. Everything else on the set should be self explanatory. Pinsir is unfortunately a bit of a poor meta pick right now, with Diancie and Mega Metagross free and all that and Talonflame/Tornadus-T being little shits. Fortunately that's what the rest of the team is for :)
Also this is the only Pokemon that I nickname. BRINGER OF PLAGUES
Heatran @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 104 HP / 204 SpA / 200 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Ice]
I don't think I've mentioned this yet - I primarily play Smogon Doubles. (You should too!) As a result, I tend to build a bit more in the sense of "can I check X by doing Y" rather than "do I have a direct switchin for X" (which influences my usual OU builds to the extreme). I also pick up a couple sets, like this Shuca Heatran here. This Heatran is tailored to beat some of the big things that beat Mega Pinsir. Shuca lets it take most Ground moves that aren't offensive Lando-T Earthquake (4 Atk Earthquake doesn't OHKO though!) and its natural bulk lets it switch in on a bunch of stuff. The Speed EVs let it outrun max Jolly Bisharp (and by extension Breloom, although it's a shitty Breloom answer because Mach Punch) and the HP EVs let it live a 252 SpA Mega Diancie Earth Power after two switchins on Stealth Rock. It's a great answer to other Heatran, popping them with Earth Power while not being KOd by Earth Power itself, and it can even take on DD Mega Altaria somewhat reliably. HP Ice beans Lando-T who think I'm Scarf or something.
Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Healing Wish
Latias serves important support roles during the match as my primary switchin to Manaphy and Rotom-W, sole hazard remover, and Healing Wish user, but it's also pretty damn strong in its own right. Draco Meteor does tons of damage a pop, and Psyshock hits things for less but without dropping my Special Attack (and being an invitation for a Diancie switchin). Healing Wish lets me bring an important Pokemon from red to ready in a pinch (usually Pinsir or Rotom). The biggest problem with this set is that I try to use it for a shit ton of stuff (and really miss recovery) and it ends up getting unnecessarily pressured.
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
If anybody tells you Landorus-T isn't the single best Pokemon in the entire game, they're wrong. No Mega comes close to the sheer usability of Landorus-T - not even the banned ones (looking at you Kanga and Mence). Here I'm using a bulky set as a general purpose "fuck physical attackers" Pokemon. It sets Stealth Rock (which is a big help for Pinsir), checks Talonflame and Zard X, and pivots with U-turn. I'd like to say it kills Steels, but they don't stay in on a Landorus. Not much else to say about this.
Rotom-Wash @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Trick
- Will-O-Wisp
I actually have Specs Rotom-Wash because I used a team in early XY of Deoxys-D / Genesect / Mega Pinsir / Specs Rotom-W / Aegislash / Bisharp. I really liked how well Mega Pinsir and Specs Rotom-W worked together, so I decided to use the bespectacled washing machine again. Rotom is actually one of my most potent weapons against stall; I can either hammer stuff with Specs Hydro Pumps or I can Trick my item to something that would rather not have it. Rotom-W is also a nice check to Talonflame, Tornadus-T, Landorus-I, and Mega Charizard X (minimum 95% to 0/4 Zard? Hell yes) and a good pivot with Volt Switch. Most common target of Healing Wish due to its sheer ability on the team. 44 Speed EVs outrun all Azumarill, and the preference of HP over Special Attack lets me check things a tad better. Shame that Hydro Pump DOESN'T ALWAYS OHKO SPECIALLY DEFENSIVE HEATRAN.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
I wanted an emergency check to setup attackers. Clefable does that, passes Wishes around a bit, checks a couple Dragons, and... dies. It's really the least useful Pokemon on the team, usually ending up sacked by midgame.
-----
This team's biggest weaknesses are Tornadus-T, Mega Lopunny, and full stall. Torn and Lop just kind of break it apart (especially Ice Punch Lop fuck that thing omg), and I can't really break stall... at all. I kind of just have to hope I dump Skarmory and then set up Pinsir as it threatens something out (a +2 Pinsir will usually get the job done though).
Shoutout to dekzeh for helping me with the team early on, although I don't think I made a ton of changes to it then lol, and to Stratos for being a fuck.
Now to go build more Doubles teams
