Just Add Water

Just Add Water

Hi this is my UU team. I basically started with Curselax and Nidoqueen and tried to build a team around them. UU is kinda boring TBH, so many people are running hail or stall. At first I thought this team does decently against stall because Snorlax owns half their Pokemon, but then I realized PO sucks and doesn't implement Freeze Clause, so all my Pokemon get frozen by Blizzard. Anyways, without further ado, the team.

In Depth

Protein (Nidoqueen) @ Leftovers
Trait: Poison Point
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Tail
- Toxic Spikes
- Stealth Rock

Nidoqueen is basically for getting hazards up, always fun. Heracross is a pain, and Nidoqueen can basically counter it except for Earthquake. Stealth Rock derp. Toxic Spikes is necessary because I hate Chansey a lot, and it also owns Celebi. Generally helps beat walls :). Fire Blast lets me actually do something to Heracross while its walling me, and actually has decent coverage with Dragon Tail. Dragon Tail phazes stuff that isn't under a Sub, and generally helps with the whole residual damage thing going on.

Nidoqueen absorbs Toxic Spikes just on switching in, which is really important for Deoxys-D to do its job. The Fighting resist is always nice in case Rotom goes down. I couldn't use Rivalry to boost Fire Blast because its illegal with my moves, but Poison Point sometimes comes in handy. The only part I hate is when I set up on Heracross and it gets a Guts boost from me.

Vitamins (*Pokémon*) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature (+Spe, -Def)
- Overheat
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch
- Hidden Power (Grass)

Houndoom is really fun to use against Victini, and it also does well against *insert frail Ghost/Psychic Pokemon*. Hidden Power (Grass) surprises the pants of Rhyperior and 2HKOs, and also does a ton to other Pokemon it hits for 4x. Overheat is great I guess, I don't use it much but it's great to spam and switch. Houndoom can't really do any serious damage to anything without all my hazards up, then it wrecks like a boss. Pursuit and Sucker Punch are for mind games, but I suck so I might use Crunch lol.

I basically just copied this set from Smogon because I have never used Houndoom before. It hasn't disappointed. It functions really well against those Celebi thinking HP Fire is good in UU. I don't think anyone else can take repeated V-Creates either. The only issue is Life Orb recoil puts Houndoom on a timer, but it really needs the power. I do a pretty good job of keeping Stealth Rock away though, so normally it gets in clean.

Fat (Snorlax) @ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 216 HP / 104 Def / 192 SpD
Careful Nature (+SpD, -SpA)
- Curse
- Body Slam
- Earthquake
- Rest

Snorlax is pretty awesome. Yeah everyone says CB is better, but I like Curselax for late game ownage against the 9999999 stall teams on the ladder. Thick Fat lets me tank Blizzards, but usually it fails because I get frozen after a couple, and then proceed to rage quit after 4 Pokemon get frozen. ._. After Houndoom runs through levitating ghosts, Body Slam and Earthquake have pretty boss coverage. Rest is necessary. A +6 burned Snorlax can't do anything.

I was debating on Body Slam v. Return, because I run Toxic Spikes, but everyone said Body Slam is better for para chance anyways. Usually late game when I use Snorlax, everything that needs to be poisoned already is, so I guess Body Slam can come in handy and paralyze a Steel or Flying Pokemon.

Carbohydrate (Hitmontop) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature (+Def, -SpA)
- Close Combat
- Rapid Spin
- Foresight
- Toxic

Hitmontop is just for getting rid of Spikes/Stealth Rock and Intimidating powerful physical attackers. It's a check to basically any physical attacker like Heracross, Arcanine, Cobalion, etc. Foresight lets me hit Ghost-type Pokemon with Rapid Spin/Close Combat. Close Combat is just to generally hit stuff like Snorlax/Cobalion/Spiritomb and anything else really with a nice STAB attack. Toxic is great for hitting switch ins.

Hitmontop is pretty bland IMO, it does its job, not much else. Not really anything more to say on this Pokemon... I really don't feel like switching spinners because not getting 3HKOd by a Guts boosted Megahorn is something most spinners can't boast. Also Hitmontop gets easy spins on a lot of hazard setters.

Minerals (Deoxys-D) @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Recover
- Toxic

Deoxys-D is uber :). Jk, but it still is pretty awesome in UU. It gets me Spikes for free on so many Pokemon, and prevents the rest from setting up. It easily Taunts most Pokemon with its good speed, and then whittles them down with Toxic. Its easy to abuse with the limited number of Poison/Steel Pokemon in UU. Really only Heracross is an issue for Deoxys, and Magic Guard Pokemon like Sigilyph.

I chose Recover because it's so obviously the best option. I can repeatedly take +1 or +2 attacks from most Pokemon and PP stall them out while setting up. Instant recovery makes Deoxys a really attractive option for a Spiker. This is probably my most consistent and reliable Pokemon.

Sodium (Rotom) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Trick
- Will-O-Wisp

The only reason I use Rotom over another Ghost for a spinblocker is because of its electric typing. It's so useful against stuff like Suicune. Trick is an amazing emergency button against last minute set up sweepers and Sigilyph. Both Rotom-s STABs are pretty good in UU; great for revenging a lot of Pokemon. Will-O-Wisp gives me an extremely useful burn move to use against annoying physical sweepers.

Rotom also lets me keep my hazards on the field. With Will-O-Wisp and its STAB moves, it beats most spinners like Hitmontop, Donphan, Claydol, and Blastoise. It's generally a really useful Pokemon and plays a variety of roles.

Offensive Threatlist

Yeah, I try to predict around it, Hitmontop and Deoxys can take anything that Houndoom can't absorb. Sucker Punch/Pursuit also beats it usually.

Your Snorlax is COMPLETELY walled by Mismagius or any levitating ghost for that matter. Might want to fix that by putting Crunch on it. Everything else looks fine on the team though. Pretty good.

This is a great team. The only thing to change would be Hitmontop's Toxic (put on Sucker Punch to screw up Mismagius). Even that is unnessesary. Good work, and good luck.

@Storms

The whole point of EQ/Body Slam is to hit things like Empoleon before they phaze. I think that coverage is the best, so I use it. I knew I hat to cover those ghosts, so that's where Houndoom/Rotom came in.

On your Snorlax, I would recommend switching Body Slam to Return because you are sweeping late game and your trying to kill mons and not cripple them. More power>chance to paralyze.

Overall great team and good luck!

Finally, a guy who decided to stand up against stall! :D All jokes aside, I'm glad I'm not the only curselax user out there. I would switch overheat for fire blast on houndoom though. Overheat is a great move, but it could screw you up if it's your last mon left. If you want something to replace houndoom then arcanine could work. Of course, then victini could zen headbutt you. But arcanine gives you a boost in power with stuff like close combat and extreme speed.
