Kingdra (GP 2/2) (Done)

[Overview]

<p>With Drizzle combined with Swift Swim being banned in singles play, Kingdra found itself in UU. However, Doubles has now allowed Kingdra to live up to its title as 'King of the Dragons'. Even if it does have middling offensive stats, Swift Swim allows it to become a fearsome sweeper under rain that can drown unprepared opponents with Muddy Water or show fellow Dragon-types who is king with powerful Draco Meteors. Kingdra has a very good offensive and defensive typing, as Water and Dragon hits everything in the metagame for neutral damage except for Empoleon and Ferrothorn and resists Surf and Heat Wave while being neutral to all other spread moves. Kingdra also has usable bulk, which can help it to survive some hits. However, being a Swift Swim user, Kingdra absolutely hates paralysis, which slows it down completely and means that other Pokemon have an easy time outspeeding and beating it down. This is only a real problem with Thundurus running rampant in the metagame whose Prankster Thunder Wave bypasses Kingdra's blistering Speed and gets a guaranteed paralysis on it. Also, Kingdra really needs rain to function properly, and without rain support, you are better off using other Dragon-types such as Latios, which is faster and has a much stronger base 130 Special Attack stat. But if you are able to use Kingdra to its strengths and avoid paralysis, it will prove to be the king of the Dragons.</p>

[SET]
name: Rain Attacker
move 1: Muddy Water
move 2: Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
move 3: Hydro Pump / Substitute
move 4: Protect
item: Life Orb / Dragon Gem
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Modest
evs : 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>The aim of this set is to do as much damage as possible to its opponents, not giving them any chance to retaliate by using powerful STAB attacks. Muddy Water is a very powerful STAB attack under rain, hitting both opponents hard and OHKOing everything that is weak to it. It also has a 30% chance to lower your opponent's accuracy by one stage, which can provide your team with chances to dodge enemy attacks and wreak more havoc. Draco Meteor is another powerful STAB attack, which deals massive damage to anything that doesn't resist it and beats other Dragon-types easily. Dragon Pulse is another option for this slot, as there is no chance of missing and there is no -2 Special Attack drop, but the loss in power is very noticeable. Either moves provide great neutral coverage alongside Muddy Water, being resisted by only Ferrothorn and Empoleon, the latter of which is rarely seen in Doubles. Hydro Pump adds more power to the set and is useful for clearing out single threats on the opposing team rather than just dealing damage, hitting Ferrothorn and Empoleon harder than any of Kingdra's other moves on this set, and bypassing Wide Guard. Substitute can be used over Hydro Pump, as Kingdra already has a Water attack and the move can protect it from status, but Hydro Pump is very powerful under rain and it might be harder to remove single threats from the field with only a spread Water-type move, not to mention that Prankster Thunder Waves can still get Kingdra before it gets a Substitute up. Protect is standard on any non-Choiced Pokemon in Doubles because it blocks potentially fatal attacks and the omnipresent Fake Out. It is even more useful on Kingdra, as it will be subject to a lot more double targeting because it will usually be the most threatening Pokemon on your side of the field. Life Orb is used to give power to every attack and help deal more damage, which is the premise of this set. Even though custom EV spreads are quite common in Doubles play, a standard 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe is used to maximize the offensive presence of the set.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>Alternatively, 40 EVs can be moved from the Speed stat into HP to increase bulk, as 216 Speed EVs ensure that it still outspeeds Adamant Kabutops, the second fastest Swift Swim user. A Timid nature is also an option if you are scared about opposing Kingdra and want to Speed tie with other Timid ones. However, that is only one Pokemon, and Modest provides a very nice power boost that Kingdra appreciates with it's average Special Attack. If you don't ever want to miss, then Surf is a viable choice over Muddy Water, as it has the same Base Power but is 100% accurate. However, it hits Kingdra's ally too, meaning you need to have a Pokemon that can benefit from Surf, or at least 4x resist it. Dragon Gem can be used over Life Orb as it allows Kingdra to nuke the opponent once with an extremely strong Draco Meteor and avoid recoil each time it attacks, but it then loses power for all of its attacks, lowering its sweeping ability. Lum Berry is a good option to use with Substitute, as the item cures paralysis from Prankster Thunder Wave once while Kingdra sets up a Substitute to temporarily avoid future ones, letting it sweep more easily, but without Hydro Pump or Life Orb, Kingdra will not be doing as much damage as it can. However, the chance to avoid status is a very good trade-off for power, and rain-boosted Muddy Waters and Draco Meteors will be doing good damage anyway. Haban Berry can be used to survive a single Dragon Claw or Dragon Pulse, but again, the loss in power is noticeable, and Haban Berry won't save Kingdra from a strong Dragon attack, such as Latios's Dragon Gem-boosted Draco Meteor.</p>

<p>Politoed is of course an essential partner for Kingdra, as it sets up permanent rain with its ability, Drizzle, which allows Kingdra to utilize Swift Swim to its maximum potential. It also has Helping Hand to boost Kingdra's already powerful attacks and turn it into a very scary Pokemon. Ground-types such as Garchomp are also good partners to sponge Thunder Waves, which they are immune to, as Kingdra hates them. Thundurus-T gets a special mention as well because of its ability, Volt Absorb, which heals 25% of its HP when it is hit with an Electric attack. It also benefits from rain, which you should always use Kingdra in, because it gets to spam 100% accurate STAB Thunders coming off a colossal base 145 Special Attack stat. Although uncommon, Manectric is a good partner for Kingdra, being able to draw Thunder Waves away from it with Lightningrod and get a Special Attack boost from them. It can also beat Ferrothorn with Overheat or Flamethrower and use Thunder in rain to act as good rain sweeper. Fighting-types such as Breloom and Hitmontop are also helpful as they can rid Kingdra of Ferrothorn and Empoleon, which both wall its dual STAB. Breloom loses its Fire weakness and, with its Grass typing, can also beat Gastrodon, which checks Kingdra. Hitmontop provides Fake Out and Intimidate support, which is useful for any Doubles team. It also has Helping Hand and Feint to better allow Kingdra to sweep. Pokemon with abilities such as Storm Drain and Water Absorb that benefit from Water-type attacks also serve as good partners to Kingdra running Surf. Ludicolo also gets a mention in this regard, 4x resisting Surf. Follow Me and Rage Powder users are also very good partners to Kingdra, as they can redirect Thunder Waves and Dragon moves, which Kingdra hates, allowing it to sweep more easily. Jirachi and Amoonguss are good here, the former resisting super effective Dragon-type attacks and the latter resisting neutral Electric- and Fighting-type moves, while also having Spore and Giga Drain to beat Gastrodon.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>A Dragon Dance set is an option with Outrage and Waterfall, but Kingdra will very rarely find opportunities to set up, as it will usually be the most threatening Pokemon on the field and will be subject to a lot of double targeting. Also, Outrage is a very bad move in Doubles, as its target cannot be chosen, which can easily cost its user games. Kingdra also can't effectively use the its signature spread move Muddy Water on a Dragon Dance set. A mixed set is also an option as Kingdra can lure out Pokemon such as Heatran and Landorus after using Draco Meteor and then hit them hard with Waterfall even after the Special Attack drop, but Kingdra is then forced to split attacking EVs, lowering the power of its special attacks. A supporting set is a viable option for Kingdra with Quash and Disable, but there are better Pokemon to use as supporters. Rain Dance is a viable move to back up Politoed in setting up rain or to disrupt opposing weathers on a weatherless team, but Kingdra then has to forgo Hydro Pump, losing power.</p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>Despite Kingdra's unmatched sweeping potential in the rain, Doubles has a handful of options to take it on. Ferrothorn and Empoleon both wall Kingdra, resisting both its STABs and taking little damage from them. Ferrothorn can hit back hard with a strong Power Whip as well. Gastrodon and Jellicent are second-in-line when it comes to sponging moves from Kingdra, as they are immune to its STAB Water-type moves, forcing it to resort to a single-target Dragon Pulse or Draco Meteor. Jellicent can even flip the tables by setting up Trick Room. They must both be wary of Helping Hand support from Politoed, as it provides Kingdra's Life Orb Draco Meteor with enough power to score an OHKO. Although not immune to Kingdra's Rain-boosted Muddy Water or Hydro Pump, Amoonguss resists them, and can either redirect Kingdra's Dragon-type moves with Rage Powder or threaten to put it to sleep with Spore. Generally specially defensive Pokemon, such as Cresselia, Togekiss, and Dusclops, can tank a hit and threaten to take away Kingdra's speed advantage with Trick Room, Tailwind, Sunny Day, Skill Swap, or Thunder Wave.</p>

<p>Another notable counter-strategy to Kingdra's rain offense is to take away the dreary weather. Tyranitar can switch into a predicted Protect, Dragon-type move, or Substitute from Kingdra and set up sand, stopping it from using Swift Swim. Ninetales and Abomasnow also set up other weathers, so they stop Kingdra's stormy tempest as well. Manual weather inducers, such as Sunny Day Cresselia and Sunny Day Whimsicott are additional major disruptions.</p>

<p>However, altering the weather is not the only way to remove Kingdra's speed advantage. Thundurus can slow Kingdra right down with Prankster Thunder Waves, hitting before it can move and making it near useless against opposing Dragon-types. It can also hit Kingdra with strong Thunderbolts. Tornadus can summon an emergency Prankster Tailwind before Kingdra can knock it out, allowing fast Pokemon to get a hit on Kingdra before it can make a move. Bulky Pokemon mentioned in the first paragraph, such as Cresselia, Jellicent, Dusclops, Ferrothorn, and Togekiss, have various speed-altering means to slow down Kingdra to manageable levels. For instance, Cresselia is a hard Pokemon to break, as it can take any hit and set up Trick Room or use Thunder Wave, both slowing Kingdra down completely; it even learns Skill Swap to steal Swift Swim from Kingdra and swap it to its partner. Jellicent and Dusclops both have Trick Room, and Ferrothorn and Togekiss have access to Thunder Wave.</p>

You should make Life Orb the primary slash, Dragon Gem the secondary slash, and only mention Lum in Additional Options. Kingdra really relies on items for killing power. I would make Surf the primary slash over Muddy Water - the power and accuracy you lose for Muddy Water is a really big deal. In addition, it would be a good idea to slash in Hydro Pump, which deals great damage and avoids killing your team-mate. Dragon Pulse should be the primary slash over Draco Meteor as the Special Attack drop makes it a lot more niche, especially since Draco Meteor doesn't gain many, if any, significant KOs Dragon Pulse cannot. You should put those 4 SpDef EVs into HP - it gives you barely more bulk, but there's no reason not to do so. Finally, why is Timid the primary slash? As far as I'm aware, Modest is always used because Timid outspeeds absolutely nothing, and because Kingdra needs all the power it can get. I would also advise making Ice Beam the primary slash over Substitute and moving them both to the third slot, as A. it isn't the most important move and B. without Ice Beam Kingdra has a hard time against many grass-type pokemon.

For Other Options: You should mention Rain Dance as a good way to brain rain back up.

For Checks and Counters: Breloom is OHKO'd by Ice Beam (2hko'd if it has a Focus Sash). Gastrodon stops Kingdra pretty cold, and should be mentioned as a definite threat.

I think you should make an All-Out Attacker set that goes before Substitute. I would think something like

Name: All-Out Attacker
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Muddy Water / Surf
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Protect
item: Life Orb
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Modest
evs : 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD

I personally like this set better, considering how it has immediate power through Life Orb, and because Substitute is hard to set up with Kingdra.
Still keep the Sub set though.

Mention how Politoed is the most important teammate, bringing permanent rain, and also mention that Fighting types like Hitmontop and Breloom help it massively by dealing with things like Ferrothorn, and creating space for it through Fake Out and Spore respectively. Also, mention that ground types are nice to have so they can switch into Thunder Wave. I am going to hesitate with stamping this till some more people have looked on it.

Name the current set "Substitute Attacker" pls :]

Remember to format correctly too - here is how it should look like; add my suggestions and nyttyn's, and I will stamp it.
[Overview]
  • The best swift swimmer in doubles
  • Great dual STABs, with great neutral coverage
  • Not very useful outside of rain, needs the rain boost to function properly
  • Hates paralysis. With thundy-i running rampant and liepard +breloom on the rise kingdra has a hard time

[add in all-out rain attacker set here]

[SET]
name: Substitute Attacker
move 1 - Substitute
move 2 - Muddy Water / surf
move 3 - Draco Meteor / dragon pulse
move 4 - Protect
item: Lum berry / dragon gem
ability: Swift Wwim
nature: Timid / modest
evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Substitute and lum berry mean that prankster thunder waves from thundurus-i and will o wisps from sableye can be healed with lum and the you can sub to prevent further attempts
  • Muddy water is a strong spread STAB that hits as hard as surf, but does not hit your ally and gets rain boost
  • Draco meteor is very powerful and hits very hard as it is STAB. Hits the common dragons in the meta like garchomp and hydreigon
    Protect is standard.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • 252 SpA and 252 Spe to maximise offensive presence. Modest can be used for more power and can hit harder but leaves you vulnerable to other kingdras, who outspeed.
  • Dragon gem is also a good option to power up the draco once, and net surprise kos on cresselia that think they can live another hit, but you lose lum and are more vulnerable to being hit by t wave, kingdras biggest nightmare.
  • Draco meteor is strong, but the -2 spatk drop forces you to switch out, which can be unfavourable with a sub up, so d pulse can be used, but the decrease in power is large.
  • Muddy water is not 100% accurate so surf can be used, but forces you to protect with your ally which can be predictable.

[Other options]
  • Can run a physical set with waterfall to act as a lure to specially defensive pokes like cress but you are forced to run outrage which is a horrid option in doubles as you can't choose your target. It is also outclassed by kabutops who has a better physical movepool.
  • Dragon dance is an option but kingdra will rarely find opportunities to set up with 2 pokes attacking at once.

[Checks and counters]
  • Cresselia is a hard poke to break, and can set up trick room to make kingdra the slowest poke on the field. It can also continuously break subs until you can sub up anymore and then t wave you.
  • Ferrothorn walls the set completely, resisting both attacks
  • Breloom is annoying, being able to break sub's with bullet seed and use mach punch to deal with kingdra, but is 2HKOed by kingdra.
  • Tyranitar is a pain, setting up sand, and taking about 40% from muddy water, allowing it to do what it wants to you as it is only 3HKOed. Ninetales and abomasnow set up other weathers too, so they stop kingdra as well

E: Joim's suggestions are good, implement them too :]

  • First of all: Try to follow the correct formatting for the analysis even in the QC bullet point part.
  • Mention in overview its great typing and ability to take Discharge neutrally and 4x resistance to Heat Wave and Eruption.
  • Slash Modest over Timid nature. Swift Swim already makes it fast enough and the extra power is welcome. Mention how Timid is best to speed tie against other Kingdras.
  • Dragon Gem over Lum Berry to fire a powerful Draco Meteor seriously denting or KOing a foe.
  • Mention how Ludicolo and Gastrodon and other less awesome Water Absorb mons can team up with Kingdra taking Surfs and even taking advantage of it.
  • Rename set to Rain Dance Kingdra.
  • Mention in AC the possibility of Haban Berry to take incoming Dragon Pulses - only mention it's useless against strong Draco Meteors.
  • Add a mixed set that uses Draco Meteor, Waterfall, Surf/Muddy Water, and Protect.

Ok, I don't see the point of a Substitute set. In just about all of the cases I've seen Kingdra used (VGC and Doubles) Substitute is used in place of Ice Beam. While the Draco Meteor drop seems unappealing for a Substitute set, Muddy Water hits plenty hard in Rain and you usually don't have to use Draco Meteor more than once. Furthermore, Dragon Pulse is pretty weak, so even though it's not dropping your SpA it's not doing much damage to neutral hits (especially without a boost from LO). Also, I'm not quite sure what a mixed set is meant to hit

yeah, echoing Audiosurfer here in the fact that I don't see why you wouldn't just slash Substitute next to Ice Beam on the attacker set. I am terribly sorry for overseeing this and making you write the new set up :(

The mixed set is used to hit hard a mons with Draco Meteor and then keep Kingdra in dealing high damage with Waterfall. It's also used to ruse a switch out, so the opponent switches in something weak to water given your partner can't KO it, and then Kingdra answers with an unexpected yet powerful Waterfall. The suggested EV sprad of 152 atk 100 SpA and 252 speed grants a KO on Heatran, Ninetales, and Landorus on rain. It's an inferior but effective set.

I agree with Audiosurfer here, though. Merge Substitute set on the first set with AC comments on how to use it.

Now that you have a mixed set
• Can run a physical set with waterfall to act as a lure to specially defensive pokes like cress but you are forced to run outrage which is a horrid option in doubles as you can't choose your target. It is also outclassed by kabutops who has a better physical movepool.
delete ^this from Other Options. I think this is ready for a first stamp, but other QC dudes; hesitate a bit with the second stamp pls.

RESIDENT KINGDRA EXPERT HERE

  • The substitute attacker set simply does not pack enough punch to be viable, and I would drop it, especially since it is the first set with a different dragon move and a shit item
  • Water/Dragon is almost perfect coverage, being resisted only by Ferro and Empoleon. Ice Beam is actually weaker than rain Hydro Pump against both of these Pokemon, and rain hydro pump has other uses too. Meanwhile, Ice Beam is weaker than DM against all other Grasses, at least on the first hit. Move Ice Beam to OO or drop it completely (besides, it's ass because yache is everywhere), but slash Hydro Pump with sub on the first set since it's nearly twice as powerful as MW. The only really common grass types are Loom (dies to dm), Amoonguss (should be using sub or MW) and Ferro (addressed).
  • Put Muddy Water in front of surf since hitting your own teammate is butts, surf should be secondary slash or OO, if you really hate missing you can use it but the acc drop from muddy water is neat as is not hurting yourself
  • i might put Dragon Gem ahead of LO, kingdra has very usable natural 85/95/95 bulk and lo shoots that in the balls, but it's close bc lo boosts your water move spam
  • I dont personally use a 252/252/4 spread because I don't care about the speed tie with opposing modest 252 Kingdra, so i drop it just enough to outrun Kabutops: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe / 4 SpD, which a) lets gene get an atk instead of spa boost and b) gives a little extra bulk [always helpful], enough to let my subs survive Amoonguss Giga drain on a min damage roll. However, I'd simply put 252 spA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD with the mention that if you don't want speed ties, you can move 40 Spe to HP and beat Kabutops
  • As convention, slashed moves go last in a set
  • The problem with that waterfall set is that: -2 252+ SpA Life Orb Kingdra Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heatran in rain: 320-377 (99.07 - 116.71%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO, so you're basically just splitting your EVs for absolutely no reason. And how the heck is a Kingdra which has already used DM going to be attacking Tales in the /rain?/
So, the first kingdra set should be:

Name: Rain Attacker [i don't like all out when it's running 2-3 attacks]
Move 1 - Draco Meteor
Move 2 - Muddy Water
Move 3 - Protect
Move 4 - Hydro Pump / Substitute
Item: Life Orb / Dragon Gem
Ability: Swift Swim
Nature: Modest
EVs : 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD

with mentions in AC that you can use Surf if you hate missing and that you can move 40 Spe to HP if you don't care about the Speed tie

and drop the other two sets, mentioning physical attacks in OO

at least in my personal opinion

edit @ nollan: NEVER ICE BEAM

I'd say Disable & Quash are worth an OO mention, I agree mixed should also be an other option. In terms of the Special Attacking set (all-out attacker), I think the slashes on Surf / Muddy Water and Ice Beam / Substitute should be reversed to Muddy Water / Surf and Substitute / Ice Beam, and rather than add an entire Substitute attacker set, just merge it to the all-out attacker set by slashing Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse and Life Orb / Dragon Gem / Lum Berry. Get all that done and I'll approve.

Looks pretty good!

A couple small things

-A Helping Handed LO Draco Meteor can actually ohko Gastro, so it's a shakier counter, but it does stop mw spam
-Change Ferro to say 'resists hydro pump' instead of ice beam for obv reasons
-mention dpulse vs dmeteor in set comments not ac

other than that,

Also, replace the dashes next to the moves with colons. Also, there should not be a space between the <p> tags and the start / end of the paragraph. <p>It should look like this.</p>

A well-written analysis overall, but Checks & Counters requires more work.

Set Comments

No mention of the 30% accuracy drops from Muddy Water?
Hydro Pump just adds more power to the set, hitting a single target harder than Muddy Water
You should mention that Hydro Pump also bypasses Wide Guard
Even though custom EV spreads are quite common in Doubles play, a standard 252 SpA / 252 Spd / 4 SpD is used to maximise the offensive presence of the set.
Change Spd to Spe

Additional Comments

Substitute can be used over Hydro Pump as you already have a Water move and you can be protected from status but Hydro Pump is very powerful under Rain and it might become harder to remove single threats from the field with only a spread move, not to mention that Prankster Thunder Waves can still get you before you get a Sub up.
Since Substitute is part of the main set, its explanation should be under Set Comments, NOT under AC.
Lum Berry is a good option to use with Substitute, as you can be protected from Prankster Thunder Waves once while you set up a Substitute, and then you are immune to status until your Sub breaks, letting you sweep, but without Hydro Pump or Life Orb, Kingdra will not be doing much damage at all, and will not really threaten the opponent much.
You downplay Sub (and lack of LO) too much - Kingdra behind a sub while Rain is up is a frightening prospect - Rain-boosted Muddy Water and a solid Dragon STAB is more than enough to inflict serious damage. Lum Berry's ability to utterly waste Thundurus's turn used to T-Wave Kingdra is more than a good tradeoff for the reduction in power.
Politoed is of course an essential partner for Kingdra, as it sets up permanent Rain with it's ability, Drizzle, which allows Kingdra to utilize Swift Swim to it's maximum potential.
Politoed can also offer Helping Hand support to Kingdra, which absolutely transforms Kingdra into a super fast nuke.
while Hitmontop provides Fake Out and Intimidate support, useful for any Doubles team.
You can also add that Hitmontop's access to Feint and Helping Hand further facilitates Kingdra's ability to storm through the opponent's team.

Follow Me / Rage Powder users are also great teammates for Kingdra - it can even stop priority moves like Bisharp's Sucker Punch or Thundurus's Prankster T-Wave from touching Kingdra, while Kingdra spams powerful moves. Jirachi and Amoonguss are good options here - Jirachi resists Dragon moves that is deadly to Kingdra, while Amoonguss tank powerful Electric- and Fighting-type moves while also offering Spore support and Giga Drain to eliminate Gastrodon.

I also wouldn't mind mentioning Manectric as a partner, for re-directing Thundurus's and Ferrothorn's T-Wave with its Lightning Rod ability. Not only that, it fries bulky Water-types with its STAB and Ferrothorn with Flamethrower / Overheat. Kingdra in exchange eliminates Dragon-types that trouble Manectric - a mutual relationship indeed. Manectric is an overall good Rain sweeper, opting to use Thunder instead of Thunderbolt.

Other Options

A Dragon Dance set is an option with Outrage and Waterfall, but Kingdra will very rarely find opportunities to set up, as it will usually be the most threatening Pokémon on the field and will be subject to a lot of double targeting.
Add that it loses out on the powerful and annoying spread move in Muddy Water.

OO mention Ice Beam to hit Grass-types like Amoonguss and Shaymin-S hard without resorting on Draco Meteor.

Checks & Counters

Your C&C require better structure - here's an example

  1. Paragraph 1: Include Pokemon that can switch into Kingdra with relative impunity - Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Empoleon goes here. Possibly Amoonguss, Jellicent, Cresselia, Togekiss, and Gastrodon, too.
  2. Paragraph 2: Include Pokemon that removes Rain to remove Kingdra's speed and power advantage - list Pokemon like Abomasnow, Tyranitar, and Ninetales here. Manual weather setters, such as Prankster Sunny Day Whimsicott / Sableye or Sunny Day Cresselia or Dusclops work here, too.
  3. Paragraph 3: Pokemon that removes Kingdra's speed advantage through other means. Prankster T-Wave from Thundurus; Prankster Tailwind from Tornadus or Whimsicott; Cresselia's Icy Wind, T-Wave, or Trick Room; Dusclops and Jellicent's TR; or Tailwind / Thunder Wave from Togekiss are all such examples.
  4. Paragraph 4: Muddy Water resists paired with Follow Me / Rage Powder user. Pokemon that resist Kingdra's spread move + protection from its dragon STAB is another way to get at Kingdra. Toxicroak, Dragon-types, or tanky Water-types (Rotom-W, Suicune, Manaphy, etc), Shaymin-S paired with Follow Me Togekiss / Jirachi / RP Amoonguss, for instance. Timid Kingdra is a decent check against opposing Kingdra, losing to a speed tie against other Timid Kingdra at worst.

[Overview]

<P>With Drizzle ancombined with Swift Swim being banned in singles play, Kingdra found itself plunged deep into the depths of UU. However, Doubles has now allowed Kingdra to live up to its title as 'King of the Dragons'. Even if it does have middling 95/95 offensive stats, Swift Swim allows it to become a fearsome sweeper under rain that can drown unprepared opponents with a rain boosted Muddy Waters or show fellow dragons who is king with powerful Draco Meteors. Kingdra has very good offensive and defensive typing, as Water and Dragon hits everything in the metagame for neutral damage except for Empoleon and Ferrothorn, while resisting Surf and Heat Wave and being neutral to all other spread moves. Kingdra also has usable 75/95/95 bulk, which can help it to survive some hits. However, Kingdra's quest to the throne of ultimate Dragon is not a walk in the park. Bbeing a Swift Swimmer, Kingdra absolutely hates paralysis, which slows it down completely and means that other Pokéemon have an easy time out speeding and beating it down. This is only made worse with Thundurus-I running rampant in the metagame and Liepard on the rise as part of the Liepard/Breloom core, both sporting Prankster Thunder Waves, which bypass Kingdra's blistering speed and get a guaranteed paralysis on it. Also, Kingdra really needs rain to function properly, and without rain support, you are better off using other Dragons like Latios, who is faster and has a much stronger base 130 Special Attack stat. But if you are able to use Kingdra to its strengths and avoid paralysis, then Kingdra will prove that it is there is no better king of the Dragon and that it is the true king.</p>

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>The aim of this set is to do as much damage as possible to the opponent, not giving them any chance to retaliate by using powerful STAB attacks. Muddy Water is a very powerful STAB attack under rain, as well as being boosted by STAB. It hitshitting both opposing Pokémon on the opposite side of the fieldnents very hard, and OHKO'ing everything that is weak to it. It also has a 30% chance to lower your opponent's accuracy by one stage, which can provide Kingdrayour team with chances to dodge enemy attacks and wreck more havoc. Draco Meteor is another powerful STAB attack, which deals massive damage to anything that doesn't resist it on the opposing side of the field, and beats other Dragons easily. Dragon Pulse is another option for this slot, as there is no chance of missing and there is no -2 Special Attack drop, but the loss in power is very noticeable. These two moves provide great neutral coverage, being resisted by only Ferrothorn and Empoleon, the latter of which is rarely seen in Doubles. Hydro Pump just adds more power to the set, hitting a single target harder than Muddy Water. It is useful for clearing out single threats on the opposing team rather than just dealing damage. It also, while hitsting Ferrothorn and Empoleon harder than Ice Beam. Another perk iany of Kingdra's othat it bypasses Wide Guard, which is common on Hitmves ontop to stop Kingdras from gohis set and bypassing crazy with Muddy WaterWide Guard. Substitute can be used over Hydro Pump, as you already have a Water move and youit can be protected you from status, but Hydro Pump is very powerful under Rain and it might become harder to remove single threats from the field with only a spread Water-type move, not to mention that Prankster Thunder Waves can still get you before you get a Sub up. Protect is standard on any non-choiced Pokémon in Doubles, because it protects fromblocks potentially fatal attacks, and the omnipresent Fake Out. It is even more useful on Kingdra, as it will be subject to a lot more doubles targeting, because it will usually be the most threatening Pokémon on your side of the field. Protect can protect you from both attacks and create free turns for your ally to deal damage of use a support move. Life Orb is used to give power to every attack and help to deal more damage, which is the premise of this set. Even though custom EV spreads are quite common in Doubles play, a standard 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD is used to maximisze the offensive presence of the set.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>While maximiszing speed and power on Kingdra and using a 252/252 spread is good, 40 EVs can be moved from the Speed stat into HP to increase bulk, as 216 Speed EVs ensure that you still outspeed Adamant Kabutops, the second fastest Swift Swimmer. A Timid nature is also an option if you are scared about opposing Kingdras and want to speed tie with other Timid ones. AlthoughHowever, that is only one Pokémon, and Modest provides a very nice power boost that Kingdra appreciates with it's base 95 Special Attack. If you don't want to ever miss a Muddy Water ever, then Surf is a viable choice tooover Muddy Water, as it has the same base power but is 100% accurate. However, but it hits your ally too, meaning you need to have a Pokémon that can benefit from Surf, or at least resist4x it 4x. Dragon Gem can be used as an item over Life Orb as you can nuke the opponent once with an extremely strong Draco Meteor, while avoiding recoil each time you attack, but you then lose power for all of your attacks, lowering Kingdra's sweeping ability. Lum Berry is a good option to use with Substitute, as you can be protected from Prankster Thunder Waves once while you set up a Substitute, and then you arbe immune to status until your Subit breaks, letting you sweep, but without Hydro Pump or Life Orb, Kingdra will not be doing as much damage as it can. However, the chance to avoid status is a very good tradeoff for power. A, and besides, Rrain-boosted Muddy Waters and Draco Meteors will be doing good damage anyway. Haban Berry can be used to protect fromsurvive a single Dragon Claw or Dragon Pulse, but again, the loss in power is noticeable, and Haban Berry won't save Kingdra from a strong Dragon attack, like Latios' Dragon Gem boosted Draco Meteor.</p>

<p>Politoed is of course an essential partner for Kingdra, as it sets up permanent Rain with it's ability, Drizzle, which allows Kingdra to utilize Swift Swim to it's maximum potential. It also has Helping Hand to boost Kingdra's already powerful attacks and turn Kingdra into a very scary Pokemon. Ground types like Garchomp are also good partners to sponge Thunder Waves, which they are immune to, as Kingdra hates them. Thundurus-T gets a special mention as well, because it's ability, Volt Absorb, allows it to heal 25% of it's HP when hit with an Electric attack, Thunder Wave bing counted as well. It also benefits from Rain, which you should always use Kingdra in, because it gets to spam 100% accurate STAB Thunders, coming off a colossal base 145 Special Attack stat. Although uncommon, Manectric finds itself being a good partner for Kingdra, being able to draw Thunder Waves to it with Lightningrod, and get a Special Attack boost from ithem. It can also roast Ferrothorn with Overheat or Flamethrower, and use Thunder in Rain for another good Rain sweeper. Fighting types are like Breloom and Hitmontop are also helpful, as they can rid you of Ferrothorn and Empoleon, which both wall Kingdra. Breloom can also beat Gastrodon, which checks Kingdra, with it's gGrass typing, which checks Kingdra,le also losing its Fire weakness in Rain, while; Hitmontop provides Fake Out and Intimidate support, which is useful for any Doubles team. It also has Helping Hand and Feint to better allow Kingdra to sweep. Pokémon with abilities that benefit from Water -type attacks like Storm Drain and Water Absorb also serve as good partners to Kingdras running Surf, as they can benefit from being hit by it. Ludicolo also gets a mention, resisting Surf 4x. It can run an Absorb Bulb to get a Special Attack raise from Surf, turning it into a fearsome sweeper alongside K this regard, 4x resistingdra as it also has Swift Swimurf. Follow me and Rage Powder users are also very good partners to Kingdra, as they can redirect Thunder Waves and Dragon moves, which Kingdra hates, allowing it to sweep more easily. Jirachi and Amoonguss are good here, Jirachi resistsing Dragon types attacks and Amoonguss resist Electric and Fighting moves, while also having Spore and Gigia Drain to beat Gastrodon.</p>

[Other options]

<p>A Dragon Dance set is an option with Outrage and Waterfall, but Kingdra will very rarely find opportunities to set up, as it will usually be the most threatening Pokémon on the field and will be subject to a lot of double targeting. Also, Outrage is a very bad move in Doubles, as you can't choose your target, which can be game-changing. The strong, and you also can't effectively use spread move Muddy Water can also not bs on a Dragon Dance usedt. A mixed set is also an option as you can lure out Heatran and Landorus-I after using Draco Meteor and then hit them with Waterfall, but you are then forced to split the attacking EVs, lowering the power of your Special Attacks. A supporting set is a viable option for Kingdra with Quash and Disable, but there's are better Pokémon to use as supporters, whereas Kingdra is very good at sweeping with Swift Swim. Rain Dance is an optional move to back up Politoed in setting up Rain or to disrupt opposing weathers on a Wweatherless team, but you then have to forego Hydro Pump, losing power.</p>

[Checks and counters]

<p>Despite Kingdra's unmatched sweeping potential in the rain, Doubles have handful of options to take it on. Ferrothorn and Empoleon both wall Kingdra, resisting both STABs and taking little damage from them. Ferrothorn can hit back hard with powerfulstrong Power Whips as well. Gastrodon and Jellicent are second-in-line when it comes to sponging moves from Kingdra, since they are immune to Kingdra's STAB Water-type moves, forcing Kingdra to resort to a single-target Dragon Pulse or Draco Meteor. Jellicent can even flip the tables by setting up Trick Room. They must both be wary of a Helping Hand support from Politoed, as it provides Kingdra's Life Orb Draco Meteor with enough power to score an OHKO. Although not immune to Kingdra's Rain-boosted Muddy Water or Hydro Pump, Amoonguss resists them, and either redirects Kingdra's Dragon-type moves with Rage Powder or threaten to put Kingdra to sleep with Spore. Generally specially-defensive Pokemon, such as Cresselia, Togekiss, and Dusclops can tank a hit and threaten to take away Kingdra's speed advantage with Trick Room, Tailwind, Sunny Day, Skill Swap, or Thunder Wave.</p>

<p>Another notable counter-strategy to Kingdra's rain offense is to take away the dreary weather. Tyranitar can switch into a predicted Protect, Dragon-type move, or Substitute from Kingdra and set up Sand, stopping Kingdra from using Swift Swim. Ninetales and Abomasnow also set up other Weathers, so they stop Kingdra's stormy tempest as well. Manual weather inducers, such as Sunny Day Cresselia or Sunny Day Whimsicott are additional major disruption.</p>

<p>However, altering the weather is not the only way to remove Kingdra's speed advantage. Thundurus-I can slow Kingdra right down with Prankster Thunder Waves, hitting before Kingdra can move, making Kingdra near to useless against opposing Dragons. It can also hit Kingdra with strong Thunderbolts. Tornadus is another genie that can summon an emergency Prankster Tailwind before Kingdra can knock it out, allowing fast Pokemon to get a hit on Kingdra before it can make a move. Bulky Pokemon that has been mentioned in the first paragraph, such as Cresselia, Jellicent, Dusclops, Ferrothorn, and Togekiss, all have various speed-altering means to slow down Kingdra to manageable levels. For instance, Cresselia is a hard Pokémon to break, as it can take any hit, and set up Trick Room or use Thunder Wave, both slowing Kingdra down completely; it even learns Skill Swap to steal Swift Swim from Kingdra and swap it to its partner. Jellicent and Dusclops both have Trick Room, while Ferrothorn and Togekiss have access to Thunder Wave.</p>

<p>Focus Sash Breloom is a pain, as it can live a hit and Spore Kingdra, but beware of double targeting should solve that, while non-sSash variants are OHKO'ed by Draco Meteor. Timid Kingdra is a decent check against opposing Kingdra, losing to a speed tie against other Timid Kingdra at worst. A Rage Powder or Follow Me Pokemon paired with a partner that resists Muddy Water forms a good pair to deal with Kingdra. Dragon-types, such as Kyurem-B or Latios; tanky Water-types, such as Rotom-W, Manaphy, and Suicune; and Shaymin-S or Breloom paired with a Follow Me or Rage Powder user can inflict heavy damage or set up on Kingdra, while the Follow Me user soaks up Dragon-type moves aimed at them.</p>

Pokemon without the special E is how we do it here, as you may already know, so I'd fix that. You can just copy/paste to word, ctrl+f and replace all Pokémon with Pokemon, in case you didn't already know.

Side note: You seem a bit into randomly saying 'opponents on the other side of the field' or such stuff. Just saying, if you're talking about an attack, i can infer you're talking about enemies.

My edits to the hydro pump section were a bit extreme but IMO pretty justified.

So i made a lot of edits;read the comments

Comments:
For excellent defensive typing;one weakness (conveniently covered by its STAB, although mentioning that might be a little too much for that sentence.)
Transition sentences are usually considered fluff and yours wasn't very good, so I cut it. If you really want one, improve it a bit.
On the overview's end-it's better to just go simple and strong;that has a stronger, more uncluttered effect.
Your teammate can get dodges from accuracy too, so changed that.
Is it worth mentioning that Hydro hits empoleon harder? Ferro seems like the more relevant target by far and Ice Beam is quadresisted by it anyhow, although the way I altered that sentence makes up for that.
Wide Guard is common on a good few support pokemon for a good few spread moves, you know.
You don't need to explain what Protect does in its entirety;maybe QC or something can disagree, but this seems like infinitely standard doubles knowledge and A:You explain Kingdra's being double-targeted often and B:too long of an explanation.
End of first set's set comments shouldn't be there and you don't talk about Dragon Gem in its set comments, which is bad.
Absorb bulb is no longer even in Ludicolo's OO so get that out of here
Is it really relevant to mention that Amoonguss resists Fighting and Electric? Why? Those are just two of many STABs used against kingdra, and its users aren't that specially suited to take on Dragon- or Water-types (well, elec is SE on water, but dragon takes that away and its' got nothing else.)
Even after a drop, do Lando-i and Heatran really want to take a muddy water? SE, STAB, Rain-boosted.

[Overview]

<P>With Drizzle combined with Swift Swim being banned in singles play, Kingdra found itself in UU. However, Doubles has now allowed Kingdra to live up to its title as 'King of the Dragons'. Even if it does have middling 95/95 offensive stats, Swift Swim allows it to become a fearsome sweeper under rain that can drown unprepared opponents with a rain boosted (implied by the under rain part) Muddy Water or show fellow dragons Dragon-types who is king with powerful Draco Meteors. Kingdra has a very good offensive and defensive typing, as Water and Dragon hits everything in the metagame for neutral damage except for Empoleon and Ferrothorn, (remove comma) while resisting and resists Surf and Heat Wave and while being neutral to all other spread moves. Kingdra also has usable 75/95/95 bulk, which can help it to survive some hits. However, being a Swift Swimmer Swim user, Kingdra absolutely hates paralysis, which slows it down completely and means that other Pokemon have an easy time out speeding outspeeding and beating it down. This is only made worse a real problem, especially with Thundurus-I Thundurus running rampant in the metagame and Liepard on the rise as part of the Liepard/Breloom core, both sporting as both sport Prankster Thunder Waves, which bypass Kingdra's blistering speed Speed and get a guaranteed paralysis on it. Also, Kingdra really needs rain to function properly, and without rain support, you are better off using other Dragons like Dragon-types such as Latios, who which is faster and has a much stronger base 130 Special Attack stat. But if you are able to use Kingdra to its strengths and avoid paralysis, then Kingdra will prove that it the king of the Dragon Dragons.</p>

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>The aim of this set is to do as much damage as possible to the opponent its opponents, not giving them any chance to retaliate by using powerful STAB attacks. Dragon Pulse is another option for this slot, as there is no chance of missing and there is no -2 Special Attack drop, but the loss in power is very noticeable. These two Both moves provide great neutral coverage alongside Muddy Water (you can use a different phrasing if you want, but in context these two is closest to Draco Meteor and Dragon Pulse), being resisted by only Ferrothorn and Empoleon, the latter of which is rarely seen in Doubles. Hydro Pump just adds more power to the set and is useful for clearing out single threats on the opposing team rather than just dealing damage, while hitting Ferrothorn and Empoleon harder than any of Kingdra's other moves on this set (add comma) and bypassing Wide Guard. Substitute can be used over Hydro Pump, as Kingdra already has a Water move attack and the move can protect it from status, but Hydro Pump is very powerful under Rain rain and it might be harder to remove single threats from the field with only a spread Water-type move, not to mention that Prankster Thunder Waves can still get Kingdra before it gets a Sub Substitute up. Protect is standard on any non-choiced non-Choiced Pokemon in Doubles, (remove comma) because it blocks potentially fatal attacks and the omnipresent Fake Out. [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>While maximizing speed Speed and power on Kingdra and using a 252/252 spread is good, 40 EVs can be moved from the Speed stat into HP to increase bulk (if this bulk does anything specific it might be worth mentioning, though if the reason is just because you don't need the Speed that's fine), as 216 Speed EVs ensure that it still outspeed outspeeds Adamant Kabutops, the second fastest Swift Swimmer Swim user. A Timid nature is also an option if you are scared about opposing Kingdra and want to speed Speed tie with other Timid ones. However, that is only one Pokemon, and Modest provides a very nice power boost that Kingdra appreciates with it's base 95 its average (or an adjective you think fits better) Special Attack. If you don't want to ever miss, then Surf is a viable choice over Muddy Water, as it has the same base power Base Power but is 100% accurate. However, it hits Kingdra's ally too, meaning you need to have a Pokemon that can benefit from Surf, or at least 4x resist it. Dragon Gem can be used as an item over Life Orb as it allows Kingdra can to nuke the opponent once with an extremely strong Draco Meteor, (remove comma) while avoiding and avoid recoil each time it attacks, but it then lose power for all of its attacks, lowering Kingdra's its sweeping ability. Lum Berry is a good option to use with Substitute, as the item cures paralysis from Prankster Thunder Wave once while Kingdra set sets up a Substitute to temporarily avoid future ones, and then be immune to status until the Substitute breaks, letting it sweep more easily, but without Hydro Pump or Life Orb, Kingdra will not be doing as much damage as it can. However, the chance to avoid status is a very good tradeoff trade-off for power, and rain-boosted Muddy Waters and Draco Meteors will be doing good damage anyway. Haban Berry can be used to survive a single Dragon Claw or Dragon Pulse, but again, the loss in power is noticeable, and Haban Berry won't save Kingdra from a strong Dragon attack, like Latios' Dragon Gem boosted such as Latios's Dragon Gem-boosted Draco Meteor.</p>

Fighting types Fighting-types, such as Breloom and Hitmontop, are also helpful as they can rid Kingdra of Ferrothorn and Empoleon, which both wall its dual STAB. Breloom loses its Fire weakness in rain and, with its Grass typing, can also beat Gastrodon, which checks Kingdra, with it's Grass-typing, while also losing its Fire weakness in rain; (start new sentence) Hitmontop provides Fake Out and Intimidate support, which is useful for any Doubles team. It also has Helping Hand and Feint to better allow Kingdra to sweep. Pokemon with abilities such as Storm Drain and Water Absorb that benefit from Water type Water-type attacks like Storm Drain and Water Absorb also serve as good partners to Kingdra running Surf, as they can benefit from being hit by it. [Other options Options]

<p>A Dragon Dance set is an option with Outrage and Waterfall, but Kingdra will very rarely find opportunities to set up, as it will usually be the most threatening Pokemon on the field and will be subject to a lot of double targeting. Also, Outrage is a very bad move in Doubles, as the Pokemon can't choose its target can't be chosen, which can be game-changing easily cost its user games (there are other changes that would work here too if you don't like this one, but game-changing seems like something that can be good or bad). Kingdra also can't effectively use the spread move spread moves such as Muddy Water on a Dragon Dance set. The strong spread move Muddy Water can also not be used. A mixed set is also an option as Kingdra can lure out Pokemon such as (unless these are the only examples, in which case don't add this and change Pokemon to both instead of them) Heatran and Landorus-I Landorus after using Draco Meteor and then hit Pokemon them hard with Waterfall even after the Special Attack drop, but Kingdra is then forced to split the attacking EVs, lowering the power of its Special Attacks special attacks. A supporting set is a viable option for Kingdra with Quash and Disable, but there's there are better Pokemon to use as supporters. EDIT (09/07/2013):
@AuraRayquaza Sorry, I missed this when I first did the check, but the <p> tag in your first paragraph is capitalized and it should not be.

EDIT2 (09/24/2013): Also the last sentence of the overview should end with '...then Kingdra will prove that it is the king of the Dragons' (the is was missing).
