Kingler (QC 0/3)

Overview
########
  • 130 base Attack definitely allows Kingler to pack a punch.
  • 110 base defense grants Kingler some physical tankage.
  • Kingler's lacking speed and special defense makes it very susceptible to special attacks.
  • Access to several set-up moves, such as Agility and Swords Dance.

All-out Attacker
########
Name: All-out Attacker
Move 1: Crabhammer
Move 2: Knock Off
Move 3: Superpower
Move 4: X-Scissor / Rock Slide
Ability: Hyper Cutter / Sheer Force
Item: Choice Band
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly

Moves
========
  • Crabhammer is Kingler's best STAB. It grants boosted power and has a good 100 base damage.
  • Knock Off gives Kingler better type coverage and also can remove opponents items, while simultaneously dealing damage.
  • Superpower also allows Kingler to cover more types, and deal heavy damage.
  • X-Scissor grants Kingler coverage against his grass weakness.
Set Details
========
  • Hyper Cutter can be run to mess with Intimidate users, such as Qwilfish and Granbull/
  • 252 Speed and Atk to allow Kingler to outspeed several threats while still dealing damage.
  • Jolly nature to compliment Kingler's speed.
  • Choice Band to utilize Kingler's incredible attack stat.
Usage Tips
========
Team Options
========
  • Gogoat assists Kingler very well, as can switch in easily to Grass and Electric type moves. Gogoat has access to the ability Sap Sipper, which grants him an immunity to Grass type moves, along with a boost to its Attack stat. Gogoat also resists Kingler's other weakness, Electric type moves.
Other Options
########
  • Life Orb is another great option for Kingler, as it allows Kingler to switch between moves, but Kingler functions best as a Choice Band wallbreaker.
  • Body Slam is another option for Kingler, as it gets a Sheer Force boost, but Normal coverage isn't very useful, and is passed up for better possibilities.
  • Brick Break is also a move for Kingler, although it does not get a Sheer Force boost,it is still useful as it does not lower stats like Superpower.
Checks & Counters
########
**Electric Types**
  • Kingler is threatened by a heavy majority of electric types. Electric types maintain a high Speed presence in NU. Even with speed investment, Kingler still lacks the ability to outspeed numerous threats.
  • Rotom-Frost easily counters Kingler for several reasons. It outspeeds Kingler, while also having decent overall defenses. Rotom-Frost has access to great Electric STAB's and has great Special Attack, which can easily OHKO Kingler. One very signifigant quality Rotom-F has is he has acess to Ice STAB which ruins any Grass or Ground type Kingler can switch into.
**Grass Types**
  • Grass types defintely check Kingler, and with prominent threats such as Vileplume and Leavanny, can almost guarentee a switch.

**Special Attackers**
  • With Kinglers abysmal Special Defense, it won't enjoying getting hit with any kind of Special Attack.
**Status**
  • Status certainly creates problems for Kingler. Paralysis ruins it, with its already mediocre speed, burn renders it useless offensively, and Toxic can easily wear it down.

All-out Attacker
########
Name: All-out Attacker
Move 1: Crabhammer
Move 2: Knock Off
Move 3: Superpower
Move 4: X-Scissor / Rock Slide
Ability: Hyper Cutter / Sheer Force
Item: Choice Band / Choice Scarf
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

In my opinion, this is the best set that Kingler can use. The problems with the set that you have there are these:
- Double boosting moves is dangerous. Kingler loses coverage that it so desperately needs, and with the EV investment you have it lacks the ability to do much else unless it gets the miraculous opportunity to get both of these moves off, which is so unlikely.
- Kingler doesn't have access to Waterfall.
- Sheer Force is cool and all, but you made a couple of mistakes in your logic. Double Edge doesn't benefit from the Sheer Force boost. And Waterfall isn't usable on Kingler. So that set lacks any incentive to use Sheer Force. The best move for Kingler to run that benefits from Sheer Force is Rock Slide. It also gets Body Slam, I guess, but Normal-type coverage is just so incredibly useless and is almost always passed up for better moves.
- Here's a list of moves affected by Sheer Force.
- Hyper Cutter, on the other hand, keeps Kingler from being messed up by Intimidate users like Granbull and Qwilfish.
- Be sure to mention in Usage Tips that Kingler functions best as a wallbreaker with Choice Band or a revenge killer with Choice Scarf. Also mention that if it needs to switch in, it should only ever switch in on physical attacks.
- As for the 4 SpD investment, I just have no idea where it should go. Probably doesn't even matter where those four EVs go.
- You can do the rest of it if you want.

Other Options -
- Body Slam gets a Sheer Force boost.
- Brick Break unfortunately doesn't get a boost from it, but it's still cool because it doesn't have the stat drops like Superpower.
- Remove Amnesia. Kingler's Special Defense is abysmal, it really gains nothing from boosting it.
- If you keep the set you have, ignore this one. If you take it out, then Life Orb should still get a mention in OO, as it does allow Kingler to change between moves, which is really useful.

Checks and Counter -
- Electric-types and Grass-types should be two separate sections. And be sure to provide examples for both.
- Rotom-Frost really does steamroll Kingler. It can probably just go into the Electric-types section though. Just be sure to give it emphasis for being a crazy solid check.
- Special attackers in general destroy Kingler. Mesprit, for example, just tears this thing up. Special Attackers should be it's own section, separate from the other two typing sections.
- Status messes with Kingler. Paralysis screws over its already middling Speed, burns render it useless, poison wears it down.

Do with this information as you will.

Scarf sucks ftr. Band might be alright though.

SubSD Knock Off is prob worth a set too.

Just did calcs, he's right. Although it does allow it to outspeed a couple important threats, like Modest Choice Scarf Magmortar and Mesprit, assuming that Mesprit isn't running Scarf.

But yeah, wallbreaker Choice Cand is still fun.

Also just a note for the overview, Sheerforce doesn't actually boost Crabhammer, as "high crit chance" isn't a secondary effect :]
[also no recovery outside of rest isn't really a negative, as it applies to like 75% of pokemon]

just a few issues i reckon you should address:

moves: knock off doesn't get a sheer force boost and i have no idea what hyper cutter has to do with removing items

set details: hyper cutter doesn't do anything vs sticky web, it only prevents attack from being lowered

current usage tip is literally pointless: "Kingler functions best as a Choice Band wallbreaker" gives readers no extra information and that sentence should probably be merged into OO; "Life Orb is another great option for Kingler, as it allows Kingler to switch between moves, but Kingler functions best as a Choice Band wallbreaker" or something like that

thanks. i have applied the changes.
also, i mistakenly thought knock off got a sheer force boost , therefore nullifying the item removing, so i noted in order to remove the opponents item you must be running hyper cutter, over sheer force. i see how it might have come across as misleading.
also, the usage tips portion is now barren. any suggestions?

You don't explain Rock Slide's mention in moves for the All Out Attacker set. Just pointing that out.
