[SET COMMENTS]
Kyurem's high offensive stats, access to Freeze-Dry, and surprisingly solid defensive profile make it an unparalleled special wallbreaker for Ice teams, with its resistances and coverage letting it pull its weight against Fire and Water teams by giving it good matchups against the likes of Ogerpon-H and Dondozo among others. STAB Draco Meteor is already a fearsome tool for Kyurem to wield unboosted, but with Choice Specs equipped, (ac) it becomes downright nuclear, OHKOing common neutral targets such as Archaludon, Slowbro, and Ursaluna-B. Ice Beam is the default secondary STAB move for its reliability, giving Kyurem an extremely strong attack that's also spammable; it importantly deals massive neutral damage to many common Draco Meteor switch-ins, securing 2HKOs on Clefable, Hatterene, Corviknight, and Galarian Weezing. Blizzard is a stronger alternative to Ice Beam that achieves incredible damage benchmarks, securing a guaranteed OHKO on Clodsire and 2HKO on Hisuian Goodra after Stealth Rock, two feats that Ice Beam never achieves; however, Blizzard relies on snow being active to be consistent, forcing Kyurem's snow-setting teammate to either run Icy Rock or play far more conservatively than they would otherwise. Freeze-Dry is arguably the most important tool in Kyurem's arsenal, letting it carry the Water matchup on its back by undermining would-be checks like Primarina, Toxapex, and Tentacruel and scoring harder hits on otherwise neutral targets like Quagsire, Rotom-W, and Dondozo. Earth Power rounds out Kyurem's moveset nicely by giving it coverage for the Steel-types that resist its STAB combination, notably OHKOing Kingambit and Metagross after Stealth Rock while handily 2HKOing dedicated walls like Empoleon and non-Choice Scarf Jirachi. Earth Power also scores a super effective hit on bulky Poison-types like Alolan Muk, which can give Kyurem a hard time otherwise. A Timid nature is an absolute requirement on Kyurem, since its crowded Speed tier would leave a Modest variant outsped by common threats to it such as Baxcalibur, Glimmora, Excadrill, and non-Choice Scarf Great Tusk, among others.

Alolan Ninetales is a crucial partner for Kyurem, enabling Blizzard spam and boosting its bulk to ludicrous proportions with snow and Aurora Veil; Kyurem becomes so staggeringly bulky in these conditions that a revenge killing tool as strong as Choice Band Scizor's Bullet Punch will not even 2HKO it after Stealth Rock. Alolan Ninetales's part-Fairy typing is also useful for discouraging Dragon-type revenge killers like Latios, Dragapult, and Walking Wake with Moonblast. Since Kyurem cannot use Heavy-Duty Boots on this set, it must rely on entry hazard removal to maintain its longevity; Alolan Sandslash is a standout choice here thanks to Rapid Spin and its secondary Steel typing, allowing it to switch into common revenge killers like Iron Boulder, Dragapult, and Flutter Mane, as well as threatening Rock- and Fairy-type attackers with its STAB moves. Slush Rush also lets it provide speed control that Kyurem needs to help against threats like Flutter Mane and Chien-Pao. Mamoswine brings Stealth Rock to make Kyurem even harder to switch into, Ice Shard to help with speed control, and an Earthquake that shakes most Steel-types and special walls into Kyurem's KO range or out of the game altogether, notably OHKOing Gholdengo, Klefki, and Hisuian Goodra after Stealth Rock. Froslass can provide further entry hazard support with Spikes, speed control with Thunder Wave, and spinblocking utility while also switching into Fighting-type attacks for Kyurem, and Destiny Bond lets it trade with a problematic target such as Ogerpon-H. Baxcalibur shares Kyurem's typing and thus shares its defensive weaknesses, but it's also a formidable physical sweeping threat that enjoys Kyurem's ability to pressure bulky Water-types with Freeze-Dry and hammer other physical walls like Archaludon and Galarian Weezing. In exchange, Baxcalibur can blow past special walls that give Kyurem trouble like Blissey, Articuno, and Galarian Slowking. Chien-Pao is another strong physical attacker that also threatens Gholdengo and boasts an amazing Speed tier, letting it clean up weakened teams with a Choice Band or Swords Dance set after Kyurem has weakened them; Chien-Pao also loves Kyurem's ability to threaten Primarina and Azumarill with Freeze-Dry. Weavile is similar to Chien-Pao and contributes a powerful Knock Off to remove Heavy-Duty Boots or Eviolite from certain walls that rely on them such as Articuno and Porygon2, respectively. Avalugg is another hazard removal option that provides a much sturdier fallback against physical revenge killers compared to Alolan Sandslash and serves as a secondary wincon with an IronPress set, but this comes at the cost of being agonizingly slow and useless against most Fairy-types.

Focus Blast can be used over Earth Power to OHKO Tyranitar, giving Kyurem an edge in the otherwise difficult Rock matchup. The move also 2HKOes Blissey after slight chip damage or Stealth Rock if its Heavy-Duty Boots can be removed, although its shaky accuracy means these advantages are easily undermined by bad luck. Running Focus Blast also leaves Kyurem completely walled by Gholdengo and Jirachi. Dragon Pulse gives Kyurem a more spammable Dragon-type STAB option, but the combined strength and coverage of its standard moves leave little reason for Kyurem to spam anything else. Ancient Power allows Kyurem to effectively lure Articuno for itself, but its low base power and overlapping coverage with Kyurem's other moves leave few other use cases for it.

Kyurem's comically (its not even that high....see Hoopa-U for comically high) high offensive stats, access to Freeze-Dry, and surprisingly solid defensive profile make it an unparalleled special wallbreaker for Ice teams, with its resistances and coverage letting it pull its weight in the Fire and Water matchups that Ice can otherwise struggle in (can you mention mons Ice struggles with, like Dondozo and Gouging Fire). STAB Draco Meteor is already a fearsome tool for Kyurem to wield unboosted, but with Choice Specs equipped it becomes downright nuclear, OHKOing common neutral targets such as Archaludon, Slowbro, and Ursaluna-B without even needing entry hazard support. Even dedicated special walls are severely chunked by it, with Blissey (has softboiled; will laugh at kyurem) and Hisuian Goodra taking upwards of 40% and 50% damage from it, respectively. Draco Meteor's incredible damage output makes it a great default option to throw at the opponent if you're not sure what will switch in, as long as there are no Fairy-types to worry about. Ice Beam and Blizzard are both formidable STAB options that are far more spammable than Draco Meteor, with the former being fully reliable while the latter depends on snow being active to be consistent. Blizzard notably always OHKOes Clodsire after Stealth Rock while Ice Beam never does, and the same is true for 2HKOing Hisuian Goodra, but this is of course marred by the move's inaccuracy if snow is not present. Freeze-Dry is arguably the most important tool in Kyurem's arsenal, letting it carry the Water matchup on its back by undermining would-be checks like Primarina, Toxapex, and Tentacruel and scoring harder hits on otherwise neutral targets like Swampert (they are so ded meow, Quagsire is a good example here as guy walls most of ice), Rotom-W, and Dondozo. Earth Power rounds out Kyurem's moveset nicely by giving it coverage for the Steel-types that wall its STAB combination, notably OHKOing Kingambit and Metagross after Stealth Rock while handily 2HKOing dedicated walls like Empoleon and Jirachi. The given EV spread is simple, maximizing Kyurem's power and giving it enough Speed to harness that power before it's KOed. A Timid nature is an absolute requirement, since Kyurem's crowded Speed tier would leave a Modest variant outsped by common threats to it such as Baxcalibur, Kleavor (often scarfed), Excadrill, and Great Tusk among others.

Slush Rush also lets it provide speed control that Kyurem needs due to its own Speed tier being mediocre (mention how it bonks Flutter mane here instead). Avalugg is another Rapid Spin option that provides a much sturdier fallback against physical revenge killers at the cost of being agonizingly slow and useless against most Fairy-types (iron press is pretty cool, with Kyurem deleting Quagsire, Toxapex, Water and Ground teams might find themselves in a bad position after this). Mamoswine brings Stealth Rock to make Kyurem even harder to switch into, Ice Shard to help with speed control, and a STAB Earthquake that shakes most Steel-types and special walls into Kyurem's KO range or out of the game altogether.

Kyurem @ Choice Specs
Set Name: Old Man Winter [Choice Specs] (Ice)
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam / Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power

[SET COMMENTS]
Kyurem's high offensive stats, access to Freeze-Dry, and surprisingly solid defensive profile make it an unparalleled special wallbreaker for Ice teams, with its resistances and coverage letting it pull its weight in the Fire and Water matchups by giving it good matchups against the likes of Ogerpon-H and Dondozo among others. STAB Draco Meteor is already a fearsome tool for Kyurem to wield unboosted, but with Choice Specs equipped it becomes downright nuclear, OHKOing common neutral targets such as Archaludon, Slowbro, and Ursaluna-B. Ice Beam is the default secondary STAB move for its reliability, giving Kyurem an extremely strong and spammable attack with good coverage; it importantly deals strong neutral damage to Fairy-types that might try switching into Draco Meteor, notably 2HKOing Clefable, Hatterene, and Galarian Weezing.(Also worth mentioning it 2hkoing Corvi.) Blizzard is a stronger alternative to Ice Beam that achieves incredible damage benchmarks like securing a guaranteed OHKO on Clodsire and 2HKO on Hisuian Goodra after Stealth Rock, two feats that Ice Beam never achieves; however, Blizzard relies on snow being active to be consistent, forcing Kyurem's snow-setting teammate to either run Icy Rock or play far more conservatively than they would otherwise. A Timid nature is an absolute requirement on Kyurem, since its crowded Speed tier would leave a Modest variant outsped by common threats to it such as Baxcalibur, Glimmora, Excadrill, and non-Choice Scarf Great Tusk among others.

Alolan Ninetales's Fairy typing is also useful for discouraging Dragon-type revenge killers like Latios, Dragapult, and Walking Wake with Moonblast. Since Kyurem cannot use Heavy-Duty Boots on this set, it must rely on entry hazard removal to maintain its longevity; Alolan Sandslash is a standout choice here thanks to Rapid Spin and its secondary Steel typing, allowing it to switch into common revenge killers like Iron Boulder, Dragapult, and Flutter Mane as well as threatening Rock- and Fairy-type attackers with its STAB moves. Chien-Pao is another strong physical attacker that also threatens Gholdengo and boasts an amazing Speed tier, letting it clean up weakened teams with a Choice Band or Swords Dance set after Kyurem has weaken them; Chien-Pao also loves Kyurem's ability to threaten Primarina and Azumarill with Freeze-Dry. Weavile is similar to Chien-Pao and contributes a powerful Knock Off to remove Heavy-Duty Boots or Eviolite from certain walls that rely on them such as Articuno and Porygon2, respectively. Avalugg is another hazard removal option that provides a much sturdier fallback against physical revenge killers than Alolan Sandslash and offers a secondary win condition with an IronPress set, but this comes at the cost of being agonizingly slow and useless against most Fairy-types.
