[LCT Round 3] Dogfish44 vs. Rainman Legends

Rules
Pokemon: 3v3
Format: Singles
DQ: Strict 72h Disqualification. One warning per player. After the warning is used (any tag after DQ interval is passed will be counted as warning), the Player has one hour to post (with full orders/pokemon, just saying "orders coming watch this space" doesn't suffice) after DQ is called to rescind it. If one hour passes, the player is DQ'd regardless of the ref posting or not. User calling DQ must tag DQ'd player. Referees please tag the combatants when you have finished your reffing. Players, if you know you're going to be away you better post a Leave of Absence BEFORE you leave, or give a very good reason in case of an emergency.

Arena
The ASB Tournament Arena
Field Type: Neutral
Complexity: Simple
Format: All

Restrictions: No Restrictions

Description: Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokémon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokémon battling arena. In the centre of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Poké Ball centre). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about 4.5m wide & creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is 24m wide, 33m long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it is an outdoor arena with a large water source & packed dirt. Pokémon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying-type Pokémon, who cannot leave the arena & cannot fly higher than 18m). This prevents Pokémon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokémon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Abra (MindFlayer) (M)
Type:
Psychic: Can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:
Synchronize: Pokemon with this ability mentally link their condition to an opposing Pokemon and when inflicted by the major status ailments Burn, Poison, or Paralysis, will share their status condition with the opponent. Pokemon will not be inflicted by status conditions to which they are immune by virtue of typing, ability, etc.

Inner Focus: When an opponent attempts to flinch this Pokemon, it stands firm and continues its attack. If it has another ability that would be activated by flinching, that ability activates.

Magic Guard (H): This Pokemon is infused with a powerful psycho-electric energy that makes it immune to damage from Spikes, Stealth Rock, Hail, Sandstorm, Leech Seed, Poisoning, Burn, and Partial Trapping moves. It can still attack itself in confusion, and will still take damage from it. Additionally, the energy protects the Pokemon from its own reckless recoil attacks. Toxic still increases in damage each round, although if Magic Guard is in effect the Pokemon will not suffer any damage. Life Orb recoil is negated.

Timburr (Auron) (M)
Type:
Fighting: Ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.

Abilities:
Guts: This Pokemon is tenacious and will work ever harder when under a status condition, raising the Base Attack Power of all its physical attacks by two (2). Pokemon with Guts ignore the attack drop from burn.

Sheer Force: At default this Pokemon can energize all its attacks with a secondary effect (These are damaging moves that either lower the target's stats, raise the user's stats, or inflict a status condition on the target). The Base Attack Power of every move with a secondary effect increases by two (2), but they will never have their usual secondary effect. When toggled, no effect.

Iron Fist (H): The Base Attack Power of this Pokemon's "Punch" attacks is increased by two (2). (Known attacks affected: Bullet Punch, Comet Punch, Dizzy Punch, Drain Punch, Dynamic Punch, Fire Punch, Focus Punch, Hammer Arm, Ice Punch, Mach Punch, Mega Punch, Meteor Mash, Shadow Punch, Sky Uppercut, Thunder Punch, Power-Up Punch)

Wailmer (Leviathan) (M)
Type:
Water: Ignores arena restrictions on Water attacks that require an external water source. Evasive Diving reduced from 6 per action Energy Cost to 5 per action.

Abilities:
Water Veil: Pokemon with this ability always have their body coated in a layer of water which prevents burns.

Oblivious: This Pokemon is incapable of being affected by Attract, Cute Charm, Captivate, or Taunt.

Pressure (H): This Pokemon's presence fills the air with intense anxiety, and any damaging or status attack launched at this Pokemon costs the opposing Pokemon two (2) more energy to perform.

Poor Timburr :(. Anyone would think its the most popular Pokemon in the tournament and everyone has worked out to bring their best counter to it. Or in this case, their best 3 counters to it. That said Rainman has brought the beast they call Wailmer. Time to see if it can live up to the hype. We start by flipping a cute little pooch:

In one of the most straightfoward rounds imagingable Dogfish is able to take advantage of the frankly ridiculous amount of high BAP STAB moves at Doduo's advantage and take large chunks away from Abra. Mind you Abra hits just about as hard back, albeit temporarily thanks to that gem. Doduo even found a way to reconfuse itself while dealing damage, which will add an extra layer of uncertainty to proceedings going forward.

Alright, so these orders make the assumption (Which was confirmed by Its_A_Random, as well as by deadfox in a VM) that Confusion rolls are made on the charge-up phase of Skull Bash. Which is bullshit, for the record.

Also I'm not actually holding a Berserk Gene any more - which may or may not be relevant ^^'.

With somewhere betweer fuck all and zero chance of breaking Magic Guard Endure, Dogfish just has to go into conservation mode. He does this rather well. While the confusion inflicted on Abra is basically useless at least Doduo's own confusion is able to chip in with a little Tangled Feet dodge meaning the Twin Bird manages to escape the round damageless. It does now definitely face a new oponent with a Reflect however. And Magic Guard Abra will be back for another try later, but that's future corgi's problem and that guy is a jerk.

The terrifying thing about Timburr is that even when you bring it in on an obviously terrible match up those Sheer Force Iron Fist Life Orb Elemental Punches mean it can still draw almost any damage race. It is helped along a little bit in this fact by Abra's Reflect still sitting in front of it. Unfortunately for Rainman it seems Dogfish is well aware of Doduo's status as a bit of a one hit wonder and rather than trying to extend the bird's life he just looks to extract as much as possible from it before a willing sacrifice. Of course when "as much as possible" amounts to removing Timburr's Life Orb while also burning 3 actions of reflect and taking away over half of its HP I'd consider it a pretty solid option in any circumstance. The behemoth that is Wailmer still looms large over this match (literally and figuratively) but Dogfish is doing all he can to secure a positive position before the beast is unleashed.

Reflect should be applied to Knock Off, bringing it down to 8.33 Damage.

... then Eneavor does around 41 damage. Anyway, point is, 2 more HP on the Timburr (Which is a pain, but w/e)

I'm objecting to the DQ warning on the principle that stuff hasn't been fixed, and my numbers might be slightly off. Will get orders up ~24 hours after fixes etc.

(Also aren't you supposed to be on holiday ¬¬)

My calculations are slightly off from Dogfish's, with Timburr only gaining 1 HP. Regardless the DQ warning is invalid since it was on me anyway. All fixed now and ready for you two to resume.

Timburr manages to achieve quite a bit despite being hopelessly outmatched here. Taking away all but half of Mime's HP and leaving it taunted while trapped against whatever is coming in next. It remains to see how well this limits the clown's tricks though.

In a somewhat unexpected move (by me at least) Rainman elects not to bring in a re-enduring Abra to face down the taunted Mime and instead sends in his big gun Wailmer to potentially have chunks taken off that all important HP stat. This is basically exactly what happens, with a protect of little consequence Mime is just barely able to survive through the taunt and land two big hits on Wailmer in the process. This one might be in Dogfish's favour, but its far from done.
