"...Oh boy, where the heck do I begin with this one?

I suppose the battle's as good a place to start as any. You see, I accepted this battle while I was on vacation in a city called Sumshadagrene. Now that I think on it, the place reminded me a lot of Seattle...eh probably just a coincidence. My opponent for the battle was named Leethoof. In truth, that was the username shared by a family known as the Stratons. Nicer folk you won't find anywhere else, albeit they can be a wee bit difficult to track down at times. Round the First: A Mangled Maneuver Massacres a Mollusk

*camera is awkwardly positioned toward the battlefield*

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. For those of you just arriving, I, Alphonse, will be your referee for the remainder of tonight's performance. I will also be performing camera duties as our current grip is a bit preoccupied for the time being.

*KNOCK KNOCK* CHIIIIIIIIEF?! ARE YOU THERE YET?! *KNOCK KNOCK*

*Still pointed at the battlefield*

House Straton makes an encore for this particular performance...well, as encoresque as an absent set of trainers can be. However, their pokemon (starting with an Armaldo and a Musharna, evidently) are still present, and ready for a doubles skirmish with a fellow by the monicker of Maxim, who enters the stage with a Hydreigon dubbed Ivan, and a Cloyster known as Shellby.

The Armaldo (who I've just learned is known as Thrawn) raises the curtain by charging at Shellby and batting away the king's rock adorning her frontal spike. Shellby, in retaliation, materializes an ephemeral shield, possibly to have blocked the previous attack...now that I think about it, Thrawn is far swifter than an Armaldo should be. Regardless, the next act falls to House Straton's Musharna (named after the Buddha, evidently), who telekinetically slings Maxim's hapless Cloyster into a wall. Ivan would appear to have been idle up until now, but it seems he had been preparing a combined attack of-

*The force of the Meteor shower causes Al to drop the camera, cracking the lens*

No no no no no please don't be broken! Theodore will flay me alive if this device is ruined!

*Meanwhile, in the janitor's closet...*

You know what, Romero? I don't think the chief's coming back.

Wapwah!

Yeah, but if it's any consolation, he'll probably blame it on Ben. You can pull off Incinerate, right?

*Al's currently panicking over the busted camera, meaning he's not really reffing the match at the moment, so I'll tell you what happens instead. While Ivan's busy cooling down, Thrawn chucks some rocks at Maxim's team, just barely hitting the threshold to prevent Shellby from pulling off a Shell Smash. Not Buddha follows up on Thrawn's attack, throwing an energy ball at her. Ivan takes a big crunch out of Siddhartha while Shellby Rock Blasts Thrawn, but both of Leet's mons gang up on the Cloyster again, doing just enough damage to push her over the edge. She dead, bro.*

A few hours before sunrise, a lone Zubat flies towards a nearby riverbank. Hopefully, he could score some chow before retiring to his cave, like the blood of a sleeping Ursaring - or better, some camper who forgot to cover up his feet. As he reached his destination, his sonar picked up a trio of unusual spheres that had washed ashore. They seemed hollow, and the Zubat suspected they might be apricorns - although he was largely a predator, he wasn't averse to fruit and nuts, provided he could actually sink his teeth into them. Flying down to investigate, he tried to nip at the lump in the center sphere, but ended up pushing it in.

The Zubat was immediately assaulted by a flash of light, and before he knew it, he was pinned down by the paw of a battered (and very irate) Lucario.

GODDAMMIT I TOLD YOU A THOUSAND TIMES NEVER TO PUT ME...wait, you're not Joy.

<Ack! Don't kill me!>

Rico looked at his surroundings...well, tried to, given how dark it was, but he could at least see enough to know he was on some kind of riverbank. His aura sensing picked up plenty of life, but the only signatures familiar to him were those of his brother and Lucius, both still in their balls.

Then he remembered the Zubat he still had pinned.

<Hey, where the hell are we?>

<Kill y-no! I just wanna know where we are!>

<B, big mountain! Biggest mountain in the land! Lemme go, please!>

Rico released his paw, and the Zubat flew off bawling like a little bitch.

(Biggest mountain in the land, huh...sounds like we're somewhere on Mt. Kyndalarj.)...MT. KYNDALARJ?!

Two hours from home. Ben nowhere in sight.

Okay...okay, don't panic, fear's the mind killer. Something must have happened...

Rico took a moment to think about what happened before. Nurse Joy was well aware that he hated poke balls, and she had always healed him accordingly. Thinking back, he realized that he had his eyes on her the entire time; whoever had stuffed him into a ball had snuck up on him. Moreover, he noticed he was still beaten and weary from his fight with Zarator. He hadn't been patched up at all.

That's when his thoughts turned to his two compatriots. Releasing the both of them, Rico realized that they were pretty worse for the wear, too.

<Well, this is quite unusual...I only wish I could call it a hangover.>

<Guys, we...we seem to be lost.>

<Are we by a river? I hear a river.>

While Leet's Armaldo isn't able to block the Hydreigon's Dragon Rush, that claw fossil does give him the speed to dig underground and avoid Imoji's Iron Head, and Siddhartha continues to be ignored, allowing him to continue laying the smack down on Ivan. Thrawn realizes he's gonna go this round, so he might as well go with a bang, and slams Ivan with a combination of X-scissor and Aqua Jet - a Jet Cross, if you will. Sure enough, Ivan and Imoji finish the Armaldo off, but Max pays for it as Not Buddha takes Ivan down with another Dazzling Gleam.

Ignoring Leet's begging, Elincia, the aforementioned Gardevoir, throws a confuse ray at Andre, preventing him from doing any real Soviet damage because my RNG seems to have caught an acute case of the Akelas. She also gets her ass handed to her throughout the round, and poisoned, but she sets a future sight on Mortimer/Lenny/Menny/Lortimer/fuck it, you decide. Soon enough, after terrorizing a trio of Pokemon, and everything else in between, Sovereign had grabbed the three items needed for Shadow's occult ritual. With a gleeful smile, he handed the items over. Shadow got to work preparing the ritual in an abandoned parking lot somewhere. Soon enough, Sovereign was ready to get freed from his chains.

"You sure this voodoo is going to work? You'd think everybody would use it."

"It's witchcraft you imbecile. And most Pokemon don't know about this ritual, or have the freedom of movement required to get the parts. Now then, this ritual is going to hurt, make sure you hold still."

"Really? How much is it going to AAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!"

Black energy of some kind engulfed the Dusknoir, causing a lot of pain and causing him to shake uncontrollably. However, just as suddenly as it began, it ended, and Sovereign was covered in a black aura.

"YES! I feel incredible, you're a genius Shadow!"

"Hehehe, I added some extra juice to the ritual, so now you have increased power as well. Now go, and cause chaos and mischief everywhere!"

"Gladly."

Sovereign tried to pull the old trick of killing the empowerer by launching a Shadow Ball at Shadow, but she had apparently predicted this and fled as soon as she had finished the ritual, leaving only a Double Team clone behind.

It probably didn't help that my only real Doubles tactic was to spam spread moves that don't hurt your partner.
