6. Dave’s Dialgas
Who is Dave? Why does he have multiple Dialgas? Is that even canon? I don’t get this name. There’s probably context I just don’t have that could potentially move this up the list but as of now I just don’t get it and view this as a very poor name.
5. Lion’s Den
The worst repeat team name of the year, and I don’t get this either. This has nothing to do with Pokémon, unless the lion is supposed to be NDM or Solgaleo (or Pyroar? Lol). But this doesn’t strike me as intimidating or badass; it just reminds me of that Bible story.
4. Spheal Ordeal
It’s a decent name. Spheal is a goated Pokémon, and who wouldn’t want to be associated with an ordeal involving Spheal? It doesn’t invoke any feelings of intimidation or badass-ness, however.
3. Zealous Zacians
I still stand by the fact that Intrepid Swordsmen would’ve been a better team name, and I don’t know why Zacian would be a zealot. But it’s a pretty good name; it has alliteration and has a pretty badass, intimidating Pokémon in Zacian as the mascot.
2. Ivory Impalers
Pretty badass name, though I’m not sure which Pokémon this is supposed to reference. Great Tusk, maybe? But I’m not sure. Pretty cool name though.

At this point, the Crooked Crobats are a classic staple of AG team tours and deservingly so. The alliteration is on point, Crobat is a sick mascot, and the adjective “crooked” fits Crobat really well.
Overall, the team names this year are pretty solid. Not too many complaints.

AGPL V Power Rankings
Hi all, welcome to the power rankings, AGPL V edition. Managers were asked to rank the starter pool from each slot (minus their own starters). Each team submitted their own ranking (except the Dialgas, who submitted two rankings which I averaged out). These rankings were then averaged out for each player. The results are shown below. A reminder that this is purely for entertainment purposes and should not be taken too seriously!
- Overall, Lion's Den leads the pack, closely followed by Dave's Dialgas. The Impalers, Spheals, and Zacians follow suit, with Crobats ranking last.
- The highest-rated SV core was drafted by Dave's Dialgas (Soulwind, Ballfire, Trade, and Fragments).
- Lion's Den is in possession of the highest rated SV, SS, ORAS, and Bo3 player (tier | Icemaster | MZ | Guard). The top spot in USUM is occupied by the Spheals (Andyboy).
- With an average placement of 1.2 in SS, Icemaster holds the most widely agreed-upon top spot in a specific metagame slot.
- The gap between the first- and last-ranked player is tiniest in the USUM pool, signifying that USUM is seen as the most competitive slot.
While I do not blame you, Tic-Tac-Toe Guru, for not knowing Dave and his Legend, I believe this reveals an underlying inequality and ineptitude in Smogon's education system. Who is Dave? A question as old as time, and one not so easily answered in as many words. Dave is a teacher, a scholar, a poet, and a leader. Dave is a president, a soldier, and a king. Dave is a policeman, a fireman, and a lawyer. Dave is able to burn on the first Scald, never miss a Focus Blast, and his pillow is always cool. Dave is courageous, tactical, and clever. Dave does not require sleep, food, or water, but engages in them to make us all feel more comfortable. Dave has graduated from Harvard, Oxford, and Yale at Singapore in the matter of 3 months at the same time. Dave is a 3-time award-winning juggler, a master of impressionistic art, and a Medal of Honor recipient. Dave regularly donates to animal sanctuaries, spends time on the weekend handing out meals to the homeless, and contributes liberally to the Svalbard Seed Bank. Dave is both one of a kind and a representative of the common man. Dave is able to get his tea to just the right temperature, calm raging animals with a single whistle, and catch up to 3 fish with a single hook. Dave is proficient in the trumpet, has a Nobel Prize in hiking, and won an Oscar for Best Non-Participant in a film. Dave has the world records for Most Motivational Speech and Fastest 100-yard slip-n-slide. Who is Dave? Dave is Dave. Now you know.
