Samurott @ Lum Berry / whatever you want as it hit a Focus Blast in most case.
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Grass Knot
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Swords Dance

Poliwrath usually like to switch in against SD Samurott to wall it. But with Grass Knot, if you catch his switch, you win the 1v1 even without rocks, unless an unfortunate sdef drop on Focus Blast, Grass Knot also help Samurott to deal with Gastrodon more easily.

0 SpA Samurott Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 96 HP / 0 SpD Poliwrath: 136-160 (39.4 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

While Poliwrath can't 2HKO you with Focus Blast + Vacuum Wave, even with two high roll, as said before, unless a drop.
.
252+ SpA Poliwrath Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Samurott: 193-228 (58.3 - 68.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Poliwrath Vacuum Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Samurott: 66-78 (19.9 - 23.5%) -- 24.8% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock

Megahorn could've also win the 1v1, but you need to be at +2 and to hit 3 megahorn.

252+ Atk Samurott Megahorn vs. 96 HP / 0 Def Poliwrath: 62-74 (17.9 - 21.4%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2:

+2 252+ Atk Samurott Megahorn vs. 96 HP / 0 Def Poliwrath: 124-147 (35.9 - 42.6%) -- 94.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Get chip damage off and poliwrath just drops to a thunder punch. this set works well with something like Floatzel that enjoys water checks being weak

Omastar @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA
- Hydro Pump
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Poliwrath likes to switch in to Water types and Shell Smashers like Omastar. Timid Omastar outspeeds Poli and gets a clean 2HKO with HP Grass. If you manage to pin it down on the switch you're getting the kill.

252 SpA Choice Specs Omastar Hidden Power Grass vs. 96 HP / 0 SpD Poliwrath: 198-234 (57.3 - 67.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Barbaracle @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Razor Shell
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
- Aerial Ace

-Aerial ace is a pretty viable option to run as lure on barbaracle since Tough claws boosts its power to high lvls, it also hits vileplume and gourgeist for super effective damage. I chose choice scarf over shell smash/white herb because it can 2Ko poliwrath on a switch before boost, but its usable on smash set as well.

252+ Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle Aerial Ace vs. 96 HP / 0 Def Poliwrath: 170-200 (49.2 - 57.9%) -- 64.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Silver Aurum

Hello there
is a Tiering Contributor Alumnus
Sorry for the delayed update, I wanted to wait until Monday so the thread could get back to a regular schedule!

This weeks winners:
Ren-chon's CB Play Rough Liepard
Shadowtags' CB Thunder Punch Aggron
PursuitOfHappiny's Choice Specs HP Grass Omastar

This week we shall be luring...

Magmortar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 64 HP / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Earthquake

PrinceLucian

Banned deucer.

Charizard @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive/Hasty Nature
- Fire Blast
- Air Slash
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Grass]

-There arent really many lures to find for this great mon, but I thought zard is pretty cool since no one rly excepts EQ on life orb set, and considering gastro is in tier many people run HP grass+roost. However, I still think all out atk Zard has pretty good potential since its coverage hits many common fire checks, from lanturn/gastro to miltank/hariyama and magmortar. Lack of roost isnt really going to hurt since this is more of a early game wallbreaker set, compared to SD zard which always prefers longevity.
4 Atk Life Orb Charizard Earthquake vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 226-268 (73.6 - 87.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
4 Atk Life Orb Charizard Earthquake vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 226-268 (73.6 - 87.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Combusken @ Eviolite
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sky Uppercut
- Swords Dance

Magmortar can pressure chicken pass and special variants of combusken really well, but it does lose to a +2 fighting stab. Min roll is 102~

Gourgeist-Super @ Choice Band
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rock Slide
- Shadow Sneak
- Seed Bomb
- Explosion

Gourgeist's most underrated set is a pretty nice lure here. Magmortar LOVES to switch in vs grass-types because it usually means a free turn to fire off a pretty damn powerful Fire Blast, so grass-types that can hit maggy for a good damage are the best lures you can get. Rock Slide allows Gourg to hit basically any Fire-type that would want to switch in a possible Will-O-Wisp, OHKOing everyone bar Combusken. Also, due to Magmortar's inexistent phys def, he can't switch in safely in basically any move as it would severely weaken it, even though Seed Bombo or Sneak aren't 2hkos (well, a lure doesn't need to kill something, just to weaken it!).

252+ Atk Choice Band Gourgeist-Super Rock Slide vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 312-368 (101.6 - 119.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Gourgeist-Super Shadow Sneak vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 126-148 (41 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Gourgeist-Super Seed Bomb vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 124-147 (40.3 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Gourgeist-Super Explosion vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 517-609 (168.4 - 198.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Weezing @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Atk / 148 Def / 28 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Bomb
- Taunt / Toxic Spikes
- Explosion

Weezing is usually a free switch for Magmortar, but this set manages to surprise it with a big Explosion. The Attack EVs ensure that Sludge Bomb + Explosion always OHKOes, while Weezing can survive a Fire Blast after SR to pull the trick off. While this set can't deal with Malamar as well, it still has most of its usual utility against physical attackers.

252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 28 SpD Weezing: 247-292 (73.9 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

0 SpA Weezing Sludge Bomb vs. 64 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Magmortar: 58-70 (18.8 - 22.8%)
80 Atk Weezing Explosion vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 249-293 (81.1 - 95.4%)

Pyroar @ Silk Scarf/Flame Plate
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Hyper Voice
- Substitute
- Endeavor

This set is really cool. It can sub on an incoming magmortar, fire off a hyper voice, or just sub and endeavor until it's in range of hyper voice. It also weakens typical checks like cradily and can be paired with another mon that shares similar checks, as this set is really good at wearing down its checks.

Abomasnow @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 96 Atk / 160 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Blizzard
- Wood Hammer
- Earthquake
- Energy Ball / Filler

Abomasnow has just enough speed to make use of Choice Scarf and it also serves as a decent lure for Magmortar. Earthquake has a small chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock.

Shiftry @ Choice Band
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Speed / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Rock Slide
- Knock Off
- Leaf Blade
- Sucker Punch

This Shiftry has just enough Speed investment to outspeed Magmortar 259 to 250. Then, with it's 100 Attack and the Choice Band, Shiftry gets a guaranteed OHKO on the poor Magmortar, who though they were going to cause a wildfire.

Also, with this, Shiftry can do massive damage to other things that think they can hit it, like Pelliper without Hurricane, Mantine, or even it's stepbrother, Ludicolo.

Calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Shiftry Rock Slide vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 312-368 (101.6 - 119.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Still getting used to this new tier, but I got into PU with one of these games so I'll take a shot at this:

And yes, I will be using the best sprites in Pokemon. Sorry if you don't get a good meme.

Steelix @ Occa Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 244 HP / 136 Atk / 128 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Toxic

After Steelix KOs an opposing Pokemon, Magmortar may switch-in to revenge kill Steelix with Fire Blast. However, when Steelix still has its Occa Berry:

252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 244 HP / 128 SpD Occa Berry Steelix: 229-270 (65 - 76.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 244 HP / 128 SpD Occa Berry Steelix: 298-351 (84.6 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Sure, it may be a roll after rocks, but it's still a great lure :] the calcs work out pretty nicely too lol

Vanilluxe @ Life Orb
Ability: Weak Armor / Ice Body
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash / Naive Nature
- Ice Beam
- Freeze-Dry
- Explosion
- filler

Magmortar's one of the few decent Ice resists in this tier that doesn't fall over to Freeze-Dry, and Vanilluxe cleanly OHKOes it with Explosion. It's also viable™.

Simisage @ Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 224 Atk / 32 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Superpower
- Rock Slide
- Gunk Shot

Simisage is fairly unknown, having been completely overshadowed by Sceptile when it was here, and when that left, it just stayed faded away. But it still finds itself a niche with its cool coverage and speed, plus a powerful Leaf Storm. And with this set, can effectively lure Magmortar, OHKOing it after rocks, or just flat 2HKOing on the switch.

224 Atk Life Orb Simisage Rock Slide vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 237-281 (77.1 - 91.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Rock Polish Regice

Regice @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 12 Atk / 252 SpA / 244 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Earthquake
- Rock Polish

Directly from Random Battles, here we have a monster that I have often in my random team. The concept is simple: boost your Spe to decent levels (216 x2) and sweep with the aid of a WP (which is really tricky due to Regice's natural bulk).

EVs spread: 244 Spe + Timid nature to outspeed by one point Aurorus and Rampardos (base 58 Spe with neutral nature + 252 EVs). With full EVs Regice reaches 218 Spe, but you don't outspeed nothing important.

252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 12 SpD Regice: 206-246 (68.4 - 81.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

12- Atk Regice Earthquake vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 106-126 (34.5 - 41%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 12 SpD Regice: 206-246 (68.4 - 81.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 12- Atk Regice Earthquake vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 212-250 (69 - 81.4%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Torterra @ Occa Berry
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Atk / 128 Def
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Wood Hammer
- Earthquake
- Synthesis / Stone Edge

Occa Berry Torterra is a pretty heat Magmortar lure, as usually once Magmortar is brought in safely, it can outspeed and OHKO Torterra with Fire Blast. With Occa Berry, however, Torterra survives the Fire Blast and can proceed to OHKO Magmortar with Earthquake.

252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Occa Berry Torterra: 220-259 (55.8 - 65.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
128+ Atk Torterra Earthquake vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 398-470 (129.6 - 153%) -- guaranteed OHKO

(Edit)

Magmortar deals lot of damage against Piloswine, so Piloswine cant switch in safely, but with this set, Piloswine can switch-in, Take Magmortar down, and Even set SR if it enters in a free turn. I Have 2 sets for this mon, the first one

Piloswine @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 24 HP / 216 Atk / 232 SpD / 36 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Stealth Rock

Even with the lower ATK Stat, still hitting hard with its STAB moves, and also keep a bit of bulk so it can set the Stealth rock safely.
With My set:
252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 24 HP / 232 SpD Eviolite Thick Fat Piloswine: 140-168 (40.3 - 48.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Standard set:
252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Thick Fat Piloswine: 194-230 (48 - 56.9%) -- 90.6% chance to 2HKO

Piloswine @ Assault Vest
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 SpD

- Icicle Crash
- Stone Edge

An AV Piloswine, to resist better the Special attacks, being an all offensive Ice type physical Slow Attacker. In the 4th slot, instead of SR, Stone Edge for coverage against the Bug Types such as Pinsir.
252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 156 HP / 96 SpD Eviolite Thick Fat Piloswine: 168-200 (44.2 - 52.6%) -- 21.5% chance to 2HKO
Hey KingSwordYT, dont be discouraged but there's no reason to run Assault Vest Piloswine when Eviolite grants you the same 1.5x boost in Spdef along with a 1.5x boost in Defense. Otherwise you're basically putting yourself at a disadvantage for no reason.

Mantine @ Wacan Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 132 Def / 128 SpD
Calm Nature
- Defog
- Scald
- Air Slash
- Mirror Coat

Usually Magmortar can pick off Mantine after it switches into a Fire Blast with an easy Thunderbolt, but with Wacan Coat you can lure it to try and KO you, while in return knocking it out yourself. Also works as a nice lure for other Electric-types so it isnt a complete waste of an item slot in matches without Magmortar.

Poliwrath usually hates going up against jynx, because of dry skin, but rock slide easily takes care of that. Payapa berry can be used if needed. But certain Poliwrath can live a psychic attack quite often. Rock slide is an guaranteed ohko after rocks or prior damage.

Rotom-S @ Expert Belt | Levitate
4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe | Hasty
Volt Switch / Air Slash / Sucker Punch / filler

4 Atk Expert Belt Rotom-S Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jynx: 216-257 (79.7 - 94.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Running Sucker Punch on Rotom literally has no purpose other than hitting Jynx, but it does a good job of bluffing Scarf and luring Jynx into thinking it's safe. Both Rotoms (Fan and Frost) saw some usage with Expert Belt Sucker Punch in the last SPL with BW2 NU where Jynx was still legal and being a general menis to the tier. I wouldn't really recommend using this in the current meta unless you're pairing it with something like SD Samurott or Shell Smash Carracosta, which both need Jynx dead before they can clean, but it does its niche job well. I do think Will-O-Wisp Rotom-S is good right now though, and if Jynx ever picks up to the same popularity it had in BW2, I could see this being a justifiable set on balance.

In the last slot, you can run any of Will-O-Wisp, HP Grass to hit Rhydon, Gastrodon, and Lanturn, or HP Water to hit Steelix and the uncommon Camerupt without missing coverage against Rhydon.

Tauros @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Rock Climb
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
- Pursuit / Iron Tail

Anyone who saw FLCL vs Kiyo in NUPL knows that this thing works. Tauros nabs a revenge kill with Rock Climb against a team that doesn't want to switch into it. Scarf Jynx then comes in to force it out, but Scarf Tauros outspeeds and OHKOes very easily with Rock Climb. You can even come in after Scarf Jynx revenge kills something and trap it with Pursuit, but this doesn't work if they don't switch out so Rock Climb should usually be your play. While obviously not as strong or threatening as regular Tauros, this set does have a niche as a Scarfer that lures and outspeeds other Scarfers, and can deal with +1 Lilligant and Vivillon as an emergency check. Adamant Tauros still outspeeds these targets and has a little more power so eh.
