Baton Pass
##########
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Baton Pass
move 2: Swords Dance / Bulk Up / Substitute
move 3: Drain Punch / High Jump Kick
move 4: Knock Off / Taunt / Substitute
ability: Regenerator
item: Eviolite
evs: 76 HP / 76 Atk / 116 Def / 196 SpD
nature: Impish / Relaxed
Moves
========
Baton Pass provides a means of passing boosts to another member of the team. Swords Dance is used to pass, while Bulk Up is preferred if you also want to pass a Defense boost. Substitute is great if it gets passed to help other Pokemon set up. Drain Punch and High Jump Kick are two STAB moves: the former is more accurate and provides some recovery, while the latter deals a bigger amount of damage. Knock Off provides good coverage with the Fighting move, allowing Mienfoo to hit Ghost- and Psychic-types. Taunt is a nice alternative to block status moves and phazing moves that are generally used after Mienfoo gets its boosts.
Set Details
========
Eviolite gives Mienfoo a nice boost to its defenses. An Impish or Relaxed nature is preferred to boost defense; Relaxed is generally better if you want to pass more slowly and make sure the Pokemon which will be switched in will get the boosts without getting damaged, though you still outspeed Porygon and Spritzee. If you think you don't need to pass slowly, Mienfoo can be used with a Jolly nature and a faster and a more offensive spread in order to beat Pawniard more reliably. Regenerator allows Mienfoo to provide boosts for the team during the whole match thanks to the recovery.
Usage Tips
========
Mienfoo is a bulky pivot that can pass boosts for the entire match, even against walls, thanks to Taunt and Substitute. It can set up against Porygon, Pawniard, and other Pokemon that normally switch out. Mienfoo can survive a Fletching's Acrobatics and Baton Pass safely to another Pokemon, and it can also sweep in the late game if it has Drain Punch + Knock Off. Baton Pass can be used in the same way as U-Turn.
Team Options
========
This set helps fast, frail, and powerful Pokemon such as Doduo, Aipom, Carvanha, Ponyta, Cranidos, and Bunnelby, as they can generally get the boost without taking damage. Set up Pokemon such as Fletchling, Zigzagoon, and Magby can be good receivers, especially if Mienfoo can pass a Substitute.
