Mamoswine (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Icicle CrashSince the idea was a Ground team that could beat Water consistently, I thought about how to account for the main two threats to Ground as Water, which would be Manaphy and Wellspring Mask Ogerpon. For Manaphy, it's a threat that easily overpowers slower Pokemon due to its incredible wallbreaking potential, and in order to beat it, I would have to use a revenge killer that is faster than it and can either 1. pivot out or 2. OHKO it completely. The only Pokemon on Ground that outspeeds and OHKOs Manaphy is Choice Scarf Torterra, which is incredibly niche and hard to fit, so Sandy Shocks is the next best option. Volt Switch is really good for chipping down Manaphy and other Water-type Pokemon, while it's a good Stealth Rock setter in other matchups, mainly Flying where it can force Corviknight out. For Wellspring Mask Ogerpon, I decided to use Choice Scarf Megahorn Great Tusk, which OHKOs it and can even switch into Ivy Cudgel once. It's the only Choice Scarf user that can OHKO it immediately since otherwise it heals too much HP with Horn Leech. With Sandy Shocks, Great Tusk, and Bloodmoon Ursaluna's incredible wallbreaking potential, Water teams can be beaten through good play especially considering Clodsire with Haze walls a lot of the Pokemon on the type while preventing Manaphy from setting up. In order to switch into Wellspring Mask Ogerpon's Horn Leech consistently after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge, I added 48 Defense EVs on Clodsire to have more defensive counterplay against it. This team is played very aggressively.- Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a pretty standard Moonlight 3 attacks set and Wise Glasses allows you to OHKO Chien-pao with Vacuum Wave and Quagsire with Blood Moon.
- In order to account for not having a Ground immunity, Sandy Shocks is Air Balloon and allows you to get up Stealth Rock easily.
- Iron Treads is Iron Defense with Body Press to improve the team's matchup against Baxcalibur and the Speed EVs allow it to outpace it while outspeeding Pokemon like Chien-pao and Dragapult after a Rapid Spin.
- Clodsire, Great Tusk, and Mamoswine have fairly standard sets. Choice Band Mamoswine is really good against the top types, mainly Flying and opposing Ground teams.
[Water] Rain ft. Ludicolo without Urshifu-R
Pelipper (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Drizzle
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Knock Off
- Hurricane
- Roost
- U-turn
Ludicolo (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Leaf Storm
- Giga Drain
- Ice Beam
Manaphy @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Psychic
- Rest
Quagsire (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Toxic
Quaquaval (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Moxie
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Aqua Step
- Close Combat
- Roost
- Rapid Spin
Empoleon (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Competitive
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flash Cannon
- Roost
- Roar
- Stealth RockWith rain Water being traditionally strapped for teamslots, the tricky part about building with Ludicolo is that there's even less room and you have to use even more role compression. A lot of the struggle with this team was figuring out how to fit more than one role in one teamslot, which is seen in the Quaquaval, Empoleon, Manaphy, and Quagsire sets. Pelipper is the face of rain Water, so I added that first alongside Ludicolo. For a while I was considering Politoed because of the role compression of rain setter and specially defensive wall in one slot, but I ended up binning it due to the later edition of Empoleon. Earlier versions of the team had Pokemon like Toxapex, Hisuian Samurott, Walking Wake, Greninja, and Barraskewda incorporated, but they all got scratched for the final version which ultimately offers more role compression. I personally do not like Water without Quaquaval as hazard stacking can be the death of your team, so I added it onto the team with an offensive set compared to the typical defensive sets for extra offensive pressure against types like Dark and Steel. I removed Toxapex for Empoleon because Empoleon provides a lot more role compression than it, being a specially defensive wall that can check a lot of of prominent threats through its typing and has recovery. Alongside Quagsire, it provides the team with a solid defensive backbone to support Ludicolo and Manaphy. Manaphy is a really good Pokemon and breaks every fat team ever in contrast to Ludicolo taking out faster teams and has good longevity with Rest combined with Hydration. This team is played really aggressively.- Ludicolo has Leaf Storm since it has a good chance of OHKOing Wellspring Ogerpon and Walking Wake, the latter with chip. Surf can be used somewhere on it as a more consistent Water STAB that doesn't get PP stalled as easily, but it is hard to fit.
- Pelipper is defensive because it's the team's main Fighting resist and Grass neutrality while being decently bulky.
- Manaphy is Tail Glow with Psychic to easily break apart Water, Ground and Poison as a result of using Toxapex and Clodsire as complete setup fodder. Rest is used so it doesn't get worn down in longer games.
- Quagsire is a Spikes setter and is good at chipping down types like Ground and opposing Water teams with it.
- Empoleon has Flash Cannon to have a better matchup against Fairy-type Pokemon, while Roar is great for phasing out sweepers like Frosmoth, Hydreigon, and Volcarona.
