Nudity

Should artists be allowed to use nudity in your opinion? Have you ever seen movies etc. where you thought nudity was tastefully used? Lastly, at what age should children be exposed to nudity?

well, i like nudity when it's in pornography, it's pretty tasty there

honestly, it's the parents' decision(s) when and if their children are exposed to nudity but nudity in your average movie is usually quite distasteful (snakes on a plane comes to mind)

300 was ok...

artists should use nudity, it's the essence of man! well not really but it's our natural state and such

What I find interesting is that in Roman and Greek times nudity was acceptable, and you could walk around naked (an erection was considered indecent though). I think it's a shame that many modern societies deem it necessary for everyone to be clothed because nudity is nothing to be ashamed of. If children were brought up with the notion that nudity is acceptable there wouldn't be a problem imo.

However, I don't know how many of us wouldn't be aroused by a decent-looking naked person had we grown up with people being naked around you.

i cant believe how in north america, amovie with tons of violence is PG 13 and a movie with a nipple is R.

bloodthirsty puritians ?__?

but yeah i don't really have any objection to nudity in media. a naked body isn't going to harm a child's mind. if it does, chances are he's on the waiting list for zoloft anyways.

Nudity is essential for artists in order to understand and accurately depict the anatomy of the human body. However, nudity in this sense is not sexual, whereas in movies and TV, it often is.

But not always. Look up Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises.

Aragorn you seem to be a Viggo fan!

Anyways, nudity is fine in my opinion. You guys missed two things that could be interesting to talk about:

1. Nudity can be hilarious (re: Borat) in media or in art.
2. The more we surround ourselves with it, the less tantilizing it will become. It should be used in moderation just because of that; overexposure is bad.

I agree with nudity in the media, parent's should stop shielding children from something as natural as that really... I'm happy that a lot of portuguese movies have nudity, at least I know nudity is somewhat accepted here.

Speaking of the media... I FUCKING HATE when parents blame the shows (like how parents blame South Park, and Family guy, etc... for corrupting their children).

I mean we have V-chips and all sorts of parental blocks that there is no excuse a parent can make to shift the blame.. If you don't want your kid watching Family Guy then just fucking block it.

That said, I think nudity should be allowed, and if parents have a problem with it then they can just choose to block it.

Cenorship is just stupid. Some idiot governments made it to protect citizens from what they think is too much. And then they made porn accesable via internet -_-

It's just like a cookie jar. If you hide it away, eventually it'll be found. The more you tell somone not take cookies from it,t he more likely they are to do just that while you aren't watching. If you let them have a cookie when they feel like it, they never even think to abuse itt. It's just another thing in thier life.

Same goes for all kinds of censorship. If a kid is brought up and told they can't sware, they just swear up a storm intheir parents absence. If they can't play an M rated video game, they'll play it at someone else's house. Obviously certain sex scenes mabye too much for 10 year olds, but honestly, if that's the case the scene couldn't have been that needed.

Fuck. OH NOES! IZ SWORE :O CALL THE POLICE! CALL THE ARMY! CALL THE PRESIDENT!
Oh wait, no one cares :/

Many movies made here promote themselves by advertising "nude scene by X actress", it's kind of dumb really, but the nudity itself isn't the problem. Basically I agree with the general consensus in this thread.

What I find is an interesting question is if our perception and social taboos would be different if we were born and raised in a community in which people hanging around naked was acceptable. For example, if all of a sudden people could be naked in public without suffering indecencies, would the people who choose not to be naked be labeled as unattractive or homophobic or something and shunned? Or perhaps in a society where we grow up used to this concept then mockery and public humiliation would be greatly mitigated and one is not judged by their physical appearance. That would be at least better than our society today, where we often judge at first sight rather than get to know someone. Just something to think about.

What the fuck are you talking about? "Censorship" is something governments have been doing to their citizens as long as some form of media has existed, if not longer.

"Adults and children" were actually what I was using for goverments and citizans. Metaphors man, metaphores. I wasn't born yesterday :) I posted Goverments and Citizans in place of it on some forum a while ago and I got some kid writing a whole paragrahp on how the government was better then that, and it's all for our on good. Probably the most BS i've ever seen in one post. I wish I had saved it. I edited the main post to avoid further confusion. SOrry bout that :)

Side note: what the hell is with the posted by Fat thing in quoting? lol

Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? NO!

The Germans?

Let him go, he's on a roll.

I feel like this in this situation as well.

I don't think that nudity should be banned unless it is provocative which then is bordering on softcore porn

"What age should children be exposed to nudity"

Well.. I've never heard of a child coming out of the womb fully clothed.

Nudity is normal, sex is normal, and I see nothing wrong with exposing children to it.. as long as it's not too deviant.. I probably wouldn't want my child (were I ever to have one) knowing what mummy and daddy do in the basement.

My question is, why are you doing it in a basement when you have a perfectly good bedroom?

Thanks for the support, but if everyone kept quite when they didn't understand something, we'd all be screwed.

Anyway, the whole "age for sex" thing is the biggest hazard. Some children mature faster then others. You can't say at age 12 every child can see two people having sex and handle it the same as someone who is 24. WHile some ten year olds might be able to. Honestly, if you are that concerned about it, don't get the movie and let the rest of us watch it. If some naked chic walks on the screen, who's responisblity is it to have me not see it. My Parents? No, mine. If I feel the need to watch a movie like that, and I really get that scarred, it's my fault and my fault alone. :toast:

That ^ never occurred to me until just now, actually. The nudity in 300 wasn't overdone, nor was it lacking in taste. If anything, it was pulled off very well.

Being someone who draws frequently, I personally have few qualms with nudity. My parents are also big lovers of classical art, so I guess you could say that I was sort of raised around pictures/books of nude people by Renoir and the like, and that also sort of desensitized me. In general, when I see an image of a nude body, I don't really see it as something sexual but more as an object of beauty created by nature... if that makes any sense. (Which sometimes leads to my boyfriend teasing me about being asexual.)

So... yeah. I don't really see anything wrong with nudity. The only times it really bothers me is when its overtly fake or unnatural (like porn star-sized breasts)- then I find it distasteful.

Nudity needs to be done safely, cant have Britney Spear's Hoohah in a magazine w/out the blur, b/c younger ppl will see it and get Traumatized (not b/c of who she is but because its just too much information).

A woman posing pregnant with her arms covering her chest is quite different though, as it is tasteful and shows the beatuty of life and is beautifully tasteful.

P.S. Does my avatar remind you more of Condaliza Rice or Oprah?
