Octillery

Overview
########
  • Has arguably the best non-Smeargle movepool.
  • Pretty powerful, as in can basically 2HKO most of the meta.
  • Doesn't want to switch into anything because of Water Spout.
  • Super slow meaning it needs to be used in Trick Room/Webs.

Moves
========
  • Water Spout is a rather powerful move that will 2HKO nearly every non-resist in the tier.
  • If you're hesitant about Water Spout's unreliability, Hydro Pump is an option.
  • Fire Blast nails Grass-types such as Vileplume, Ferroseed, and Cacturne that can easily switch in to Water Spout.
  • Energy Ball hits Seismitoad and Lanturn for very high damage.
  • Scald is used as a secondary Water-type STAB in the case that you are at a low amount of HP, where Water Spout does minimal damage.

Set Details
========
  • EV spread makes Octillery as fast as powerful in addition to making it hit really hard.
  • Trick Room spread of 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD with 0 speed ivs and a Quiet nature, can be used if using a Trick Room based team.
  • Choice Specs increase Octillery's damage output massively.
  • Mysticwater or Expert Belt can be used to avoid Choice Specs' unfortunate side effect of locking Octillery into one move. However, this makes it considerably weaker.
  • A Modest nature is used to make Octillery even more powerful. It also doesn't miss out on any notable threats that a timid nature would outspeed.(afaik)
Usage Tips
========
  • Octillery should be used as an early game wallbreaker.
  • Unless you are really sure that the opponent is using a status move that doesn't really matter against Octillery, use a slow U-turn / Volt Switch / BP or wait after one of your pokemon faint in order to bring in Octillery.
Team Options
========
  • Sticky Web setters such as Leavanny or Kricketune can be used to set Sticky Web, making Octillery a lot faster.
  • Hazard removal from pokemon such as Cryogonal can be very good for not powering down Water Spout every time Octillery switches in.
  • On the other half, hazard support allows Octillery to wear down its counters easier. So pairing it with hazard setters such as Garbodor and Ferroseed is ideal.

Other Options
########
  • Ice Beam
  • Subcharge
  • Focus Energy
  • Twave
  • Acid Spray
Checks & Counters
########
**Faster Pokemon**: Namely Ludicolo and Rotom-S can switch in and pick off Octillery before it can attack, although the former cannot switch in if Sticky Web is up, while the latter cannot switch in to water spout.

**Grass-types**: Grass-types can switch in to a Water Spout, unless Sticky Web is up, and retaliate with a STAB move.

Will get lilligant up soon.

I love octillery's amazing cry, movepool, and design just as much as the next guy.. but it's really, really outclassed in NU.
