NEW GUIDELINES: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/how-to-make-a-discipline-appeal.3583479/

The archived appeal guidelines below no longer apply.
Pokémon Showdown is committed to providing a venue where Pokémon enthusiasts are able to enjoy their hobby free from harassment or abuse of any kind. For that reason, we want to open the lines of communication between our users and the site leaders so that users may alert us to potential problems that interfere with our goal of having the best server around.

If you feel that you have been banned or locked from the Pokémon Showdown main server unjustly, this is where you may file a complaint that will be reviewed by the staff of the server, the moderators of the forums, and the site administration.

Note: If you were locked for linking to a shock site or porn, do not create an appeal because it will be denied. Your lock will go away after about a week. Do not link to shock sites on the server. Thanks.

Before posting your complaint, carefully review the rules of the Pokémon Showdown server and seriously consider whether you broke one of them... intentionally or not.

If you have been banned under a username you do not recognise, please DO NOT post an appeal before reading the following paragraph.
  • Note: You are responsible at all times for the behavior of your account. We will not unban you because your brother got on your account and did something stupid. Similarly, bans and locks for school IPs will not be reversed because someone else got on and spammed. Do not let other people use your account. If you make a ban appeal stating this as the reason, your appeal will be denied and you will receive an infraction for ignoring this announcement. We also cannot ban individual accounts; if one person on your IP gets banned, everyone on that IP is banned.

    We have this policy because:
    - It's impossible for us to tell whether or not you're lying.
    - Even if you're not lying, the fact is that PS got spammed or whatever and it happened because of your account.

If you still believe the ban was unjust after reviewing the rules carefully and considering your situation as dispassionately as you are able, you may post a thread here.

Your thread must include:
  • The username of the moderator who banned you
  • The username you were using yourself when you were banned
  • A complete log or screenshot of the text that is relevant to the question of your banning, if possible. Attempting to alter logs will result in permanent banishment from the Smogon server. If we doubt the authenticity of your log, we will pull up the log ourselves from our records.
  • An explanation of why you feel that you were banned improperly.

Your thread must contain all of these or it will be ignored. If your thread contains all of the listed elements, your case will be reviewed as soon as we are able, and our final judgment will be issued.

Under no circumstance you're allowed to make more than one thread for any given lock/ban. Creating a second appeal, when the first one has been locked/rejected, constitutes grounds for a ban from the forums.

Credit to Great Sage for the rules.

Do you know who banned or locked you? Would you like your appeal to be answered as quickly as possible? That's great - tag them with the @ symbol before their name in your post. This will direct them to your appeal and ensure your appeal is dealt with as soon as the relevant staff member is available. For instance, if you wished to tag user Jasmine in a post, you would simply type Jasmine. It appears as Jasmine and sends a notification to the person in question who was tagged.
PS! Server Name / Smogon Forum Name
Asty / Astyanax
Beowulf / Neetwulf
Charles / Charles Carmichael
Reimu Raymoo / Ray Murray Moo
RosieTheVenusaur / Rosie_The_Venusaur
Articuno / Blue Kitteh
Orda-Y / OrdA
MrAldoPls / MrAldo
Paradise / Paradise~
kay / Sir Kay
Brrandon / Brandon~
reisen / Reisen Inaba

Every other current staff member shares the same name on Pokemon Showdown and Smogon, so that makes things easier.
Don't tag a staff member unrelated to your case, please - at any time of the day several staff will be online and ready to answer appeals, so there's no point and it will only irritate.

If you don't know who banned or locked you or can't get the tag feature working, don't worry! Countless appeals have been answered rapidly without this feature, and will continue to be.

DO NOT post an appeal relating to specific room. To appeal your roomban find one of the Room Owners on PS! of the room you were banned in and after talking to them you still feel it was unjust you can try talking to an Upper Staff member ( & or ~ ) if really necessary.

Public Rooms + Owners

Note: All Room Owner names will be their Pokemon Showdown! name. If the person you are seeking is not online, click on a desired Room Owner's name and PM them on their Smogon profile instead.

See this post for the updated list of all ROs.

Appealing Permanent Punishments

Sometimes you do something that the Pokemon Showdown staff collectively agree is serious enough to warrant a permanent punishment, such as a lock that never goes away. These are usually particularly serious cases, however we know things change and people learn.

If you are permanently locked and wish to appeal it, you may post via our appeal system stating clearly that you are requesting a removal of your permanent punishment, and why we should do such. Again, this is a serious case and generally something we will only look at if we have not had a problem with you over several months. If you abuse this service, or you return to the same behaviour that got you punished in the first place then do not expect leniency from us in the future.
