Physical Special Swap (Kyurem-B banned, Kyurem-W and Reshiram unbanned)

Approved by Joim, Treecko liked it too

In generation 4, battle mechanics were changed drastically with the Physical/Special split, which made every move unique based on flavor instead of type. It was a very important change in competitive Pokemon, and made a lot of things more Viable. But this left me pondering...

What if we switched it up?

Introducing Physical/Special Swap!
What is this metagame? Simple, all Special moves are now physical and vice versa. This means that a lot of Pokemon have lost valuable moves, while others gave gained important coverage. As well as this, stat drops caused by these moves are switched as well (such as Draco Meteor now lowering Attack by 2).
Here are all the mechanics that have changed:
  • If a Pokemon uses a move that would lower it's attacking stat (such as Leaf Storm), that is now reversed
  • If an opponent used a move that can have a side effect of lowing defense (such as Crunch's Defense drop), that is switched as well.
  • Secret Sword, Psyshock and Psystrike now all use the opponents Physical, special, and special defense respectively when dealing damage.
For the time being, only Kangaskhanite is unbanned.
Some important changes:
-Physical Fighting types lose their Close Combat and now have to use the unreliable Focus Blast
-Some special attackers appreciate the Elemental Punches, such as Alakazam and Gengar
-However, a lot of physical attackers love having the Beams to their disposal
-Hidden power is a 60 BP physical move that can be any type except Normal and Fairy
Feel free to discuss top threats and potential suspects!

We can bring back Ice Punch Gengar and Hydro Pump Gyarados. EDIT: Misread, thought it said "only Kangaskhanite is banned"

I'm assuming that Superpower would lower Special Attack and Special Defense instead of Attack and Defense in this? Would Intimidate / Defiant / Competitive be reversed as well?

First of all, Gengarite is still banned. The only thing that isn't banned anymore is Kangaskhanite.

Superpower will lower Special Attack and physical Defense.

Abilities remain the same.

sheer force rampardos is just stupidly strong, still slow and frail though

also, priority is pretty much garbage other than talonflame and lucario (lol) unless im missing a meaningful special attacker

This is a very interesting metagame! Some things I've seen:
Aegislash can now go all special, or it can go mixed. However, the pink blobs beat it every time.

Aggron gets BoltBeam, Fire Blast, Focus Blast, Flash Cannon, Earth Power, Surf, Hidden Power... AND it gets Rock Polish to sweep with!

Alakazam appreciates many things. It still has a good STAB (Psycho Cut), but now it gets even more coverage. Elemental Punches, Knock Off, Drain Punch, and Iron Tail are all very viable.

Ampharos loses Focus Miss and Dragon Pulse, but gains Fire Punch, Brick Break, Bulldoze (lol), Iron Tail and Outrage.

Azumarill gains a powerful STAB in Hydro Pump, a more defensive one in Scald, and coverage in Ice Beam, Hidden Power, Focus Miss and Grass Knot.

Banette thanks you for STAB Shadow Ball, Hidden Power, Thunderbolt and Dazzling Gleam.

Bisharp hates you for taking away STAB Knock Off and STAB Sucker Punch. However, it DOES get Dark Pulse, Hidden Power, Focus Miss and Grass Knot…

Blastoise got nerfed. Despite the addition of Aqua Jet and Fake Out, it loses Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, Ice Beam, Water Spout… although it does get Rock Slide, Earthquake and Gyro Ball.

Breloom gains Technician Hidden Power, Focus Miss, Sludge Bomb, Giga Drain and Energy Ball. It actually keeps priority (Vacuum Wave). However, it misses Bullet Seed and Rock Tomb.

Celebi gets priority on special sets (Sucker Punch) and coverage on Swords Dance sets (Giga Drain, Psychic/shock, Earth Power, Hidden Power). All in all, not bad.

Chandelure hates you.

Mega Charizard X now should run special sets. And remember, Tough Claws still boosts those “contact” moves. Unfortunately it can’t boost, but it can Roost?

Mega Charizard Y gains Rock Slide, Earthquake, Thunder Punch, and Flare Blitz… but no Solar Beam.

Clawitzer is in the same boat as Blastoise, really.

Clefable has no STABs, but on the bright side, it gets Drain Punch, Knock Off, Meteor Mash, and the Elemental Punches.

Conkeldurr hates this. All it gets is Hidden Power, Focus Miss, and Grass Knot.

Crawdaunt loses priority and Knock Off but gets a pair of more reliable STABs in Hydro Pump and Dark Pulse, as well as Ice Beam, Hidden Power, and Sludge Bomb.

Crobat gets coverage, baby! Heat Wave, Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Air Slash, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse, and Hidden Power.

Darmanitan gets dat Sheer Force Fire Blast, with Focus Miss, Grass Knot and Hidden Power as coverage.

Delphox has even less moves than it used to. I don’t know how…

Diggersby’s most powerful STABs are Round and Mud Shot. ROUND and MUD SHOT. Fortunately, it gets coverage in Surf, Sludge Bomb, Grass Knot, and Hidden Power.

Dragalge can utilize Poison Tail, Dragon Tail, Waterfall, and… PLAY ROUGH?

Dragonite gains better coverage. Dragon Pulse, Hurricane, Surf, BoltBeam, Fire Blast, Focus Miss, and Hidden Power, with Dragon Dance to set up? Count me in!

Empoleon gains STAB priority in Aqua Jet, as well as STAB Waterfall, Rock Slide, Earthquake, Brick Break, and Knock Off. But its best Steel STAB is Steel Wing…

Entei can now run RestTalk much more effectively. RestTalk, Calm Mind, and Sacred Fire? That’s CroCune from hell!

Feraligatr gets a GREAT STAB in Hydro Pump, as well as coverage in Ice Beam, Focus Miss, and Hidden Power. Plus, it gets Dragon Dance!

Ferrothorn, although mostly unchanged, drops a pair of powerful STABs (Power Whip + Gyro Ball), but gains a healing STAB (Giga Drain) and a reliable STAB (Flash Cannon). Oh, and it gets Thunderbolt. T-BOLT FERRO NEW META

Flareon has a small amount of moves, but still a bit more than beforehand. Fire Blast, Lava Plume, Hidden Power and Shadow Ball are good. Losing Superpower is not.

Garchomp gets Draco Meteor, Earth Power, Fire Blast, Hidden Power, SURF, and that’s it.

Gardevoir can now use Frustration as a Fairy STAB, and it also gets the elemental Punches, Zen Headbutt and Shadow Sneak.

Genesect gets Shift Gear. It also gets physical Bug Buzz, BoltBeam, Flamethrower, Giga Drain, and Flash Cannon. Add in special U-turn, Iron Head, Blaze Kick, and E-Speed, and Genesect is a THREAT.

Gengar gets priority (Sucker Punch), coverage (elemental Punches, Drain Punch) and STABs (Shadow Claw, Poison Jab). Although its overall coverage is a bit weak, it can still bring on the hurt.

Granbull has that great Normal-type movepool, which means it can beat foes with Hidden Power, BoltBeam, Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, Fire Blast, Overheat, Focus Miss, and STAB Dazzling Gleam.

Greninja… doesn’t change that much.

Gyarados gets Hydro Pump, Fire Blast, BoltBeam, Dark Pulse for its mega, and the RETURN OF HP FLYING!

I’ll return with more thoughts later.

priority is pretty much garbage other than talonflame and lucario (lol) unless im missing a meaningful special attacker
Little-known fact: Breloom (and a large amount of other stuff) gets Vacuum Wave from a Gen 4 Move Tutor. Also from that tutor: Sucker Punch.

Adding some stuff I thought of:

Swellow gained Physical Boomburst to use with Guts, but lost its Brave Bird and U-Turn. There's always Air Slash though.
Scizor sucks offensively now. However, defensively it is a great Defogger.
The unbanned Kangaskhan lost its STAB normal moves. So it sucks. Rip

huh, forgot about that tutor. that means mega medicham has priority too
and gengar gets sucker punch
come to think of it, keldeo gets aqua jet
so maybe priority isnt too far gone

All is not terrible for Kangaskhan, he gets physical Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Surf and Uproar(90bp STAB move) which could substitute for his lost options(He won't be anywhere near as good though).
Unfortunately Uproar has the downside of locking him into a move, making Ghosts a clean switch-in.

Kit Kasai

Love colored magic
Choice band Kyurem-B. Say goodbye to any walls.

Draco meteor for insane STAB, and it also has great coverage in ice/ground (ice beam and earth power)

moar thoughts
Heatran has Pre-XY Flareon Syndrome, because its best Fire STAB is FIRE FANG. On the bright side, Iron Head + EdgeQuake is good.

Heliolisk gets Rock Slide, Bulldoze (lol), Wild Charge, Dragon Tail and U-turn. All weaker than its other options.

Heracross hates this. Venoshock (lol), Hidden Power, Focus Miss and Struggle Bug (lol) are NOT up to par for Heracross.

Honchkrow has to use its lower attack stat for priority and a super-strong STAB in Brave Bird. On the bright side, Heat Wave, Hidden Power, Dark Pulse, and even Nasty Plot to boost Brave Birds and Sucker Punches!

Houndoom gets a strong Sucker Punch, but its best special Fire move is Fire Fang. It DOES get Thunder Fang, though…

Hydreigon is pretty good. Outrage, Crunch, U-turn, EdgeQuake, Focus Blast for the blobs, Superpower, the Elemental Fangs, Aqua Tail, Iron Tail, Zen Headbutt, Acrobatics, Fire Blast and Earth Power if it wants to go mixed, even Head Smash!

Infernape still has priority on both sides, with Vacuum Wave and Mach Punch. With Swords Dance and Nasty Plot, it hasn’t changed much. Just keep an eye out for the blobs if you’re going special, as even Close Combat doesn’t do much.

Jellicent is better off not running an attacking move. Toxic/WoW/Taunt/Recover sounds fine to me.

Jirachi didn’t change much at all. Still, it can paraflinch and set up on the same set now. NEXT!

Kangaskhan has good coverage and still has Seismic Toss/Shadow Ball, but its best Normal STABs are Uproar and Round…

Keldeo can no longer break through the pink blobs, but look on the bright side: It has priority (Aqua Jet), a stronger STAB (Close Combat), and some type coverage (Stone Edge, X-Scissor, Poison Jab).

Kyurem-B has to be banned. Speaking of the Kyurems, why not unban Kyurem-W? It doesn’t have any special Ice STABs, and in fact it has LESS special coverage than Kyu-B had physical coverage! Their roles have been reversed!

Landorus-I is frightening. Keep in mind that although its special sets were better than its physical sets, its Attack is actually HIGHER than its Special Attack. It gets Sheer Force Earth Power, Focus Miss, Sludge Wave, Psychic, Hidden Power, and even Rock Slide (if you want to use it)!

Lucario is 5 base stat points more dangerous than before. It stays mostly the same.

Machamp can now use No Guard Focus Miss and Fire Blast… yeah, not much at all.

Mamoswine can now utilize Freeze-Dry and Earth Power for perfect coverage. You can utilize all sorts of Hidden Powers for super-effective coverage, like HP Rock or HP Fire. That leaves a fourth moveslot for Stealth Rock, Ice Shard or Endeavor.

Manaphy cannot sweep with Tail Glow anymore. Maybe it can be a support ‘mon with Knock Off, U-turn, Scald and Heal Bell… sad Manaphy is sad.

Manectric gains Wild Charge, Crunch and the Elemental Fangs… not much.

Mawile is scary. Flash Cannon, Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, Fire Blast, Focus Miss, Grass Knot, Dark Pulse, Hidden Power… The list goes on and on.

Medicham gets Hidden Power, Psychic/shock, Shadow Ball, Focus Miss, and Energy Ball. That’s it, really. But does it need anything else? It can run Focus Miss, Psyshock, Shadow Ball, and Baton Pass to escape threats and call it a day.

Metagross now gets Psychic/shock, Shadow Ball, Grass Knot and Flash Cannon on the physical side. Yay…

Mienshao has been graced with Aura Sphere, and it can use Hidden Power too… that’s it. MixShao?

Moar thoughts coming soon.
Also, here's something I say in there, but should be viewed anyway.

Kyurem-B has to be banned. Speaking of the Kyurems, why not unban Kyurem-W? It doesn’t have any special Ice STABs, and in fact it has LESS special coverage than Kyu-B had physical coverage! Their roles have been reversed!

I think Kyu-w can still use outrage though... Idk its move pool but outrage seems very strong
Kyu-b could have used outrage outside of this meta though... Its movepool is pretty poor but outrage was very strong

Their roles literally are reversed, except Kyu-W's Fusion Flare is hitting off of its weaker attack stat, while Kyu-b's fusion bolt was hitting off of its stronger attack stat outside of the meta. Keep in mind that Kyub's BL outside of this meta.

This meta is very interesting for things like Rhyperior and Aggron, who have amazing Special Movepools but meh. Rhyperior seems pretty cool thanks to STAB Earth Power and good coverage between Ice Beam and Fire Blast or even Thunderbolt.

A pokemon that appreciates this as well is Lati@s, since they only really lose BoltBeam, HP Fire, and Psyshock, but gain the ability to use Earthquake with their better stat. They have Outrage / Dragon Claw and Zen Headbutt to compensate for their STAB moves, and have EQ for coverage.

Another interesting pokemon is Mawile. While it lost its strong Fairy STAB and Sucker Punch, it now has really good coverage, which includes gems like Fire Blast, Focus Blast, and Ice Beam. It also gets Charge Beam if that's your style, although it also gets Swords Dance so idk. It also gets Hidden Power for shit like HP Ground or something. Too bad there's no HP Fairy though.

Nidoking's in the same boat as Landorus. It mostly only runs Special sets anyway, so now it gets to use its amazing movepool on its newly-buffed Attack.

The unbanned Kangaskhan lost its STAB normal moves. So it sucks. Rip
Nawww. It doesn't suck as bad as you might think.
Remember: It still has parental bond as kangashkhanite is unbanned.
and cause its gen 1 normal, its special move pool is HUGE.

I'd say:
-Uproar
-Ice beam
-Thunder bolt
-Fire blast

and voilá, you have a pseudo nidoking.

I guess I'll go the simsim way and post many ideas of pokemon in spoilers, because man are there some interesting ones. c:

Scizor - Scizor has taken a very interesting change in here. It still has Priority, although not STAB anymore (vaccum wave), and it has Bug Buzz (because subs suck and more PP) / Silver Wind (10% chance to boost everything is very good, but low PP) for STAB. Technically, HP Steel is stronger STAB, but Flash Cannon is probably better overall. Speaking of Hidden Power, he has decent coverage thanks to it - I imagine HP Fire and HP Ground being the more popular ones, although HP Ice is good too. On a defensive set, Struggle Bug is a legitimate option; having a decent 75 BP and lowering SpA (or Atk because of this meta, not sure how that works tbh) by 1 stage every time you use it is really cool. It also has Defog and Roost for defensive sets. Of course, you could also go Ominous Wind and Silver Wind for double luck chance if you choose. Also, U-Turn is still usable, although a lot worst, if only because of the momentum it gives, and gives chip damage wish is neat. #Funzor2014

Mega Kang - Kang is pretty interesting too, due to the fact that it's best STABs are Uproar, which works like a Normal-type Outrage but without the confusion, and Round, which has 60 BP. However, Parential Bond gives it pseudo-STAB on anything that isn't Normal-types, which affects its amazing movepool. Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, oh mai so good. Round also isn't really that bad to be honest, as it has a 135 base factoring in PB and STAB, which is the same BP as PB Ice Beam and Thunderbolt. Uproar is also an option if you really want to pack a punch (202.5 BP after PB and STAB is strong). I think the worst thing about Kang is the fact that, since it has to hold its MegaStone, it's not as strong as it could be. Still, it's not shitty, but the mighty have definitely fallen.

Volcarona - Everyone loves recoil! It's only good STAB move outside of U-Turn has recoil and it's best coverage move (Wild Charge) has recoil too. Still, Fire + Electric coverage is pretty good, and while not the best for sweeping, U-Turn off of 135 hurts shit hard. QD / FB / WC / Roost seems like the best moveset for a QD set. Wonder if a U-Turn wall-y set could work, as Volc has decent special bulk. Volc could be pretty cool, although the recoil and the 4x sr weakness means that volc isn't going to be living for very long.

Keldeo - Keldeo has pretty much benefited from this in every way. While it's main water STAB got weaker or got less accurate depending on your choice of Hydro Pump and Surf, Aqua Tail is still pretty good. Close Combat, meanwhile, is REALLY good, and Aqua Jet is a pretty big buff too. Its coverage also got really good too. Bug + Water has really good coverage, especially when you add in Fighting STAB to it as well. It can also run Poison Jab for Azumarril, who otherwise gives it hell. Stone Edge is an option to hit Azu and Jelli neutrally. So yea, Pony has done nothing but gained from this. The only thing it might miss is technically being mixed with Secret Sword and not missing with Surf, but that pales in comparison to priority Aqua Jet and glorious Close Combat.

Lando-T - Landorous is pretty cool in this metagame. Earth Power and Hidden Power Ice or even Flying (!) give it pretty good coverage, and it still has utility with U-Turn and Stealth Rock and all that jazz. It is also happy that it doesn't have to run a Rock move anymore over HP Ice (which is what it ran last gen to hit the things that Stone Edge hit harder like Gliscor) since Talonflame is pretty mediocre now that its best flying STAB is Hidden Power Flying (doesn't even get Air Slash smh). Even then it could run Rock Slide on the side of its set, since it's SpA isn't bad at all.

KyuB - Might be broken, as others have said. Forget using its Dragon STAB - just use Earth Power + Ice Beam and wreck everything. Of course, you can always run Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor + Focus Blast . Because why not. There is no need to go mixed with KyuB anymore, but if you want you can always still use Fusion Bolt - 120 SpA isn't bad at all. On top of all of this, it's still KyuB - bulky as fuck and decently fast for something that bulky. People have been saying that KyuW is the new KyuB, but I disagree with that. Fire + Dragon with Mold Breaker is much better than what KyuB had. Still, KyuW might not be broken, and would be neat, but I don't think it'll be the new KyuB.

Genesect - This thing also need to be banned. It's pretty much only gotten better, since Shift Gear now has actual coverage, and it's normal set only experiences a switch from specially based with U-Turn to physically based with U-Turn that is now special. It even has Blaze Kick to smack Skarmory that think they're cheeky now that they can tank at least 1 TBolt with their strong physical defense (although a +1 will probably wreck the bird).

Tyranitar - Oh man, is TTar a mixed bag. One the bad side, Pursuit has been greatly weakened now. Not only that, but its Rock STAB has been reduced to Ancient Power or Hidden Power Rock (which is still better than Terrak, who only has the latter. At least Tar can gamble). However, it's physical movepool is really good now. Dark Pulse is probably going to be its main STAB now, and it has Fire Blast, Earth Power, Ice Beam, Thundrbolt, and more to use as coverage. It can even use Hidden Power if it so desires, although there is no real point since TTar probably has a move of the type you want anyways (unless its Rock - gg).

Gigalith - Only mentioning him because he has the stronger Rock STAB in the game thanks to the fact that he's one of the few to learn Rock Gem. Other than that, Gigalith is still mediocre, so whatever. He gets Earth Power for coverage, but mono Rock and those boring stats mean gigalith is still meh.

Or replace two of those moves with Seismic Toss, which 2HKOs all non Ghost types that have less than 400 HP, and Shadow Ball, to smack Ghosts. It misses Return, Sucker Punch, and Power Up Punch, and it isn't as good as it was in standard, but it is still really good. Especially now that all of its good moves bar Seismic Toss don't make contact, and it can't be worn down via Iron Barbs/Rocky Helmet as easily.

moar thoughts
final thoughts
Nidoking is pretty good. All those Sheer Force moves now running off his 102 base Attack? I like.

Ninetales hates this. Flare Blitz + Frustration + Payback + Zen Headbutt + Iron Tail is it. :(

Noivern is a mixed bag. On one hand, it gains Brick Break, Acrobatics, Shadow Claw, U-turn, Dragon Claw, and Wild Charge. But on the other hand, it loses delicious Boomburst and based STABs Hurricane and Draco Meteor, as well as Fire-type coverage.

Pangoro isn’t as bad-off as you think. STAB Dark Pulse, STAB Focus Miss, Sludge Bomb and Parting Shot can make a pretty good Banded set. Plus, it gets Grass Knot too!

Pinsir now has only one good Normal move for Flying STAB: Round. 78 BP with STAB isn’t much, and if its only coverage is Hidden Power, Focus Miss, and Struggle Bug, it won’t be sweeping teams anytime soon.

Politoed has Waterfall, Ice Punch, Earthquake, Brick Break, Payback, Power-up Punch… it actually has quite an extensive movepool!

Porygon-Z has Frustration, Aerial Ace, Zen Headbutt, and Iron Tail… and that’s it really. On the bright side, Adaptability Specs Frustration hits like a TRUCK!

Quagsire now has Scald/Surf hitting off its higher offensive stat, as well as Ice Beam, Sludge Bomb, Focus Miss, Earth Power, and Hidden Power. Curse Quagsire too stronk?

Reuniclus has an extensive movepool, surprisingly. Zen Headbutt for STAB, Drain Punch, the Elemental Punches, SUPERPOWER, Knock Off, Gyro Ball, and even Rock Slide!

Rhyperior is just like Aggron. Earth Power for STAB, Hidden Power, Surf, BoltBeam, Fire Blast, and even Flash Cannon for Fairies!

Roserade should stick to defensive sets. Petal Blizzard, Pin Missile and Poison Jab aren’t much to write home about.

Rotom and its forms get nerfed terribly. No Hydro Pump for you, Rotom-W. No Overheat for you, Rotom-H. They don’t even get ELECTRIC STAB!

Salamence gets Dragon Pulse, Fire Blast, Hydro Pump and Hidden Power with Dragon Dance to buff them all.

Sceptile gets a HUGE movepool buff. Crunch, X-Scissor, Leaf Blade, Earthquake, Drain Punch, Acrobatics (which pairs beautifully with Unburden), Rock Slide, Iron Tail and Thunder Punch are all great hitting off that 105 base Special Attack.

Scizor can now utilize Silver Wind/Struggle Bug/Bug Buzz and Flash Cannon as STABs, with Hidden Power, Vacuum Wave and Air Slash as coverage. It did get nerfed, but it’s still tough to beat.

Scrafty, similar to Pangoro, gets Focus Miss, Dark Pulse, Hidden Power, Grass Knot and Sludge Bomb as coverage. Surprisingly, it also gets Incinerate and Dragon Pulse. And it gets Dragon Dance to set up. Life is good for Scrafty. Just watch out for Fairies! (Although Fairy moves won’t be that common due to many special Fairies not having Play Rough and many physical Fairies not having Dazzling Gleam/Moonblast.)

Sharpedo doesn’t change much. It gets a stronger Water STAB and trades EQ for Ice Beam, but that’s it, really. If only it had a boosting move…

Slowbro and Slowking lose a TON of coverage, but they gain Earthquake, Zen Headbutt, Aqua Tail, Drain Punch, Ice Punch and Iron Tail. Slowking also gets Dragon Tail.

Slurpuff has some physical COVERAGE! Dazzling Gleam, Energy Ball, Surf, Hidden Power, Thunderbolt, Psychic and Flamethrower all are good with those Belly Drum sets. After a Belly Drum and Unburden, Jolly max Attack Slurpuff has 1,036 Attack and 534 Speed. And with that coverage and the downfall of priority, it will be sweeping a LOT of teams.

Snorlax gets STAB Hyper Voice, Surf, BoltBeam, Psychic, Shadow Ball, Fire Blast, Focus Miss, Hidden Power, Belch… (takes deep breath)… and that’s it.

Staraptor is one angry bird, as it loses almost EVERYTHING.

Starmie has only two notable moves: Waterfall and Gyro Ball (lol, Gyro Ball on something that fast).

Suicune can’t do CroCune anymore. Or Offensive Calm Mind. Or any set at all with just Ice Fang, Waterfall, Iron Head, Extreme Speed, Bulldoze (lol) and Bite (lol) as its only options.

Swampert is pretty happy. Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Earth Power, Hidden Power, AncientPower, Sludge Wave and Focus Miss are all viable moves.

Swellow gains Air Slash and Hidden Power, but its best gain is Boomburst. HERE COMES THE BOOM

Sylveon is one of the best offensive Fairies due to Pixilate Return and priority Pixilate Quick Attack. It also gets Iron Tail via Eevee. But that’s all it gets… Sylveon has no moves? Maybe.

Talonflame still has priority, but it has to work off of its weaker attacking stat. But hey, it gets Fire Blast and Hidden Power for coverage… Mixed sets?

Terrakion got hit HARD, as Focus Miss, Round and Hidden Power are its only coverage.

Thundurus gets Superpower, Wild Charge, Knock Off, U-turn, and… Smack Down?

Togekiss has Extreme Speed, Drain Punch and Zen Headbutt, but its best STAB happens to be Aerial Ace. AERIAL ACE.

Tornadus can now utilize Acrobatics sets, but it also has Superpower, U-turn, Crunch, and… Smack Down again?

Toxicroak gains STAB priority in Vacuum Wave, a strong STAB in Sludge Bomb, and coverage in Shadow Ball.

Trevenant gets Shadow Ball, Psychic, Energy Ball, Focus Miss, and absolutely nothing else, including roles.

Tyranitar has to run a large amount of Special Attack investment to be able to Pursuit trap, but STAB Dark Pulse, STAB Ancient Power, Surf, Hidden Power, BoltBeam, Fire Blast, Focus Miss and Earth Power are very good, and when backed up by Dragon Dance, even better!

Venusaur gets Power Whip/Petal Blizzard, Earthquake and Knock Off, but nothing to hit Flying-types unless it wants to run Hidden Power Rock or Sludge Bomb off its weaker offensive stat.

Victini remains effectively unchanged. Next?

Volcarona is Recoil: The Pokémon. 50% from SR? Check. Main STAB (Flare Blitz) and main coverage move (Wild Charge) both provide recoil? Check. Talonflame is essentially this in standard OU.

Weavile finally has reliably good STABS in Ice Beam and Dark Pulse. Focus Miss and Hidden Power round out its coverage pretty well. It loses priority and Pursuit trapping, however.

Wobbuffet users will be thoroughly confused.
