Moves
========
Hurricane has a 30% chance to confuse foes, allowing Mega Pidgeot to beat foes such as Jirachi through luck after a few boosts. Roost allows Mega Pidgeot to consistently set up on the likes of Chansey, which can only hit Mega Pidgeot with Seismic Toss and status moves. Refresh allows Mega Pidgeot to heal off status ailments that can be potentially crippling for it so that it can set up on the likes of Quagsire. Work Up boosts Pidgeot's damage output, letting it beat common Pokemon on stall teams, such as Chansey and Skarmory lacking Whirlwind, while also KOing Quagsire and Amoonguss with ease.
Set Details
========
252 Special Attack and Speed EVs along with a Timid nature allow Mega Pidgeot to outspeed the likes of Alakazam and Speed tie with Tornadus-T and opposing Mega Pidgeot. However, a bulkier EV spread of 224 HP / 32 SpA / 252 Spe can be used; 32 Special Attack EVs ensure that Mega Pidgeot can 2HKO Chansey with Hurricane at +6, though the drop in power is very noticeable when Mega Pidgeot is unboosted.
Usage Tips
========
As Work Up boosts both Attack and Special Attack, Mega Pidgeot should avoid setting up against Foul Play users such as Mega Sableye and Mandibuzz, which can heavily damage it with Foul Play when boosted. Mega Pidgeot struggles to find setup opportunities against fast offensive teams, so it should not set up against them but instead use Hurricane as much as possible. Roost and Refresh should be used when Mega Pidgeot is weakened but only when it is safe to do so, such as against passive Pokemon such as Chansey or on forced switches. Work Up should be used against Pokemon that Mega Pidgeot can easily handle, such as Chansey and Quagsire, as well as Mega Venusaur, Amoonguss, Celebi, Conkeldurr, non-Choice Scarf Keldeo, and Mega Heracross. Mega Pidgeot struggles against Thunder Wave + Calm Mind Clefable however, as Mega Pidgeot can only break it with a critical hit.
Team Options
========
As this set is heavily inclined towards beating bulkier builds, teammates that are capable of handling offensive teams are appreciated. Bisharp and Weavile can beat common threats on offensive teams, while Mega Pidgeot can beat a common answer to them in Keldeo. Starmie and Excadrill can provide Rapid Spin support for Mega Pidgeot; Excadrill can also pressure offensive teams with sand support from the likes of Tyranitar and Hippowdon. Hippowdon is able to beat most Electric- and Rock-types apart from Grass Knot Thundurus, Rotom-W, Swords Dance Terrakion, and Mega Diancie, while Mega Pidgeot can take out Grass-types such as Celebi and Serperior for Hippowdon. Latias also functions as a switch-in to Electric-types while also providing Defog and Healing Wish support, which can be used late-game to allow Mega Pidgeot to recover and sweep weakened teams. Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Terrakion can handle Heatran and Tyranitar, both of which counter Mega Pidgeot. Azumarill is able to switch into opposing Rock-types and can pressure offensive teams heavily thanks to its solid bulk, good coverage, and extremely high damage output, making for a good teammate. Raikou is another good teammate, as it can check opposing Electric-types such as Thundurus and Mega Manectric and is capable of providing Mega Pidgeot with safe switches via Volt Switch. Bulky Garchomp can handle priority moves directed at Mega Pidgeot and set up Stealth Rock against the likes of Heatran and Tyranitar; Landorus-T also can do this while handling Excadrill more effectively. Celebi makes for a decent teammate for its ability to check Mega Diancie, Mega Lopunny, and Electric-types, but it stacks a weakness to Ice-types such as Weavile.
