So it's Rocky the Onix vs Mighty the Gabite. Although the cave is dark, both pokemon appear to be naturally in-tune with their surroundings. Mighty begins by stomping on the ground forcefully, creating a huge Earthquake that creates some cracks in Rocky's skin. To hopefully lessen the damage, Rocky Hardens his exterior. He then waits for his opponent's next move: a Dragon Rush. However, it was a trap, and while Rocky still takes some damage, his plan works. He wraps his tail around Mighty, Binding him tightly. So tightly, in fact, that Mighty can't reach the ground to cause another earthquake! Rocky decides to do it for him by slamming his head into the ground close to Mighty, allowing him to feel the full force of his own Earthquake. Will Mighty be able to break free of his oppressor's clutches, or has Rocky secured victory?

his ear, followed up by another Earthquake.

No, they just prevent the stat from decaying at the end of that round. If you use Harden this round, you end the round at +2 defence. I even got this clarified on IRC once. As far as I know, Intimidate is the only thing that causes permanent stat changes.

Alright, tough spot, but thats my mistake Gabite, lets make up for it with brute strength. Lets go for a Dual Chop then spam your powerful Outrage attack

Btw, if he's keeping me off the ground, Earthquake shouldn't hit me... just throwing that out there.

The next round begins with Mighty the Gabite trying to free himself from Rocky's clutches. He attacks with a Dual Chop, hitting him so hard that Rocky's grip on him loosens and Mighty breaks free. Annoyed at this, Rocky slams his tail into the ground to cause another Earthquake. Suddenly, it looks like Mighty wants to express his Outrage at being held like that earlier and he charges into Rocky, who retaliates with an ear-piercing Screech that perturbs the Gabite. He still continues to unleash his Outrage while Rocky makes another Earthquake, this time causing some of the surrounding rocks to fall! Luckily for both pokemon, none of the rocks hit them.

As Mighty finishes up his Outrage, Rocky tries Binding him again and succeeds. It doesn't help that, after that uncontrollable bout of attacking, Mighty has become somewhat disoriented. However, even as he has to listen to another Screech from Rocky, Mighty is not looking like he's about to hit himself. Unfortunately, Rocky is holding him up in the air to stop him from making earthquakes ... except for one where Rocky smashes Mighty into the ground. He's gonna feel more pain from that Earthquake!

While Mighty is still in the grip of his foe, he tries to break free but, in his fatigue, only swipes himself. Meanwhile, Rocky lowers him to the ground and slams his head into the ground, creating another Earthquake. Sensing that the Onix is going to try it on again, Mighty Protects himself from the next attack, which also happens to be an Earthquake. However, he could not protect himself from the squeezing tail of Rocky and by the time he breaks free, he's all out of vitality.
