Hey all! Welcome to the new PU matchmaking thread, hosted by me, Yogibears Rwby!

All Pokemon are unable to function effectively without their checks and counters gone, which is where their teammates come in. These partners are capable of dismantling multiple Pokemon proving a threat to their teammates, providing invaluable support and thus are often seen as the heart of the team. This project aims to brainstorm various ideal and effective partners to various Pokemon that may range from metagame defining Pokemon to more underrated threats.

Every week, I will nominate a Pokemon for discussion of potential partners and submissions. During the first few days of that week, you will submit a partner for that Pokemon. During the next few days of that week, you and the community will vote on your favorite partner for said Pokemon. The person with the most votes for that week will get their submission archived. People that manage to get into the archive multiple times with good submissions will be let into the Hall of Fame!

Rules
1. If it isn't on the viability rankings, don't nominate it. Also don't nominate it if it currently C or below (this will be subject to change in the future). You can find the viability rankings here. Pokemon such as Banette and Meganium are not viable in the PU metagame and therefore should not be nominated.
2. Reservations are allowed, but please complete your submission within 24 hours. If you do not finish your reservation within 24 hours, then it is allowed to be taken by another user.
3. Nominate Pokemon that you have used or have knowledge of using. Do not nominate Pokemon that you think may work, but don't know if they will.
4. Explain how and why the Pokemon that you chose is a good partner for that week's Pokemon. For example, an offensive threat may want partners that weaken its checks.
5. Be nice.
6. One partner per user per week!

Have Fun!

Right, let's get this show on the road! I'm start week one off with a staple in todays Meta, with Mesprit:

Mesprit @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Healing Wish / Thunder Wave
- Psychic /Psyshock

Mesprit is currently one of the most versatile pokemon in the meta, able to fulfil a variety of roles successfully, making it a difficult pokemon to pin down unless you scout for its set. We'll be focusing on the Defensive Rocks set, which has great bulk combined with utility in Healing Wish / Thunder Wave, U-turn and Stealth Rock; what will you choose to be its partner?

Deadline is Sunday!

Oricorio-Sensu @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Dancer
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Revelation Dance

Mesprit really hates the presence of Skuntank as it can come in and try to Defog, threaten with Dark STAB or Pursuit trap after Colbur Berry is used up. This Oricorio-Sensu set is able to lure in opposing Skuntank and knock them out with SSSS whilst avoiding Sucker Punch with Substitute. This also works well as an offensive switch in to Primeape's U-turn which Mesprit doesn't like to take. In turn Mesprit can take on things like Piloswine and switch in on Hitmonchan as Oricorio fears Ice Punch.

Skuntank @ Black Sludge
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 SpA / 112 SpD / 144 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Acid Spray
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse / Hidden Power Grass
- Defog

Skuntank forms a good core with Mesprit due to being able of defeating Ghost-types that threaten it or that prevent it from setting up rocks. Skuntank greatly appreciates Mesprits Levitate while Skuntank deals with stuff like Musharna, Sableye, Ferroseed, etc.

Guzzlord @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 196 SpD / 60 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb

basically, defensive Mesprit takes on scary fighting types such as hitmonchan and gurdurr, while Guzzlord can nuke threats to mesprit like skuntank, sensu, etc. guzzlord also appreciates the healing wish support that is given from mesprit as it gives it a second life.

reserving alolan rat

Raticate-Alola @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Crunch
- Double-Edge

Alolan Raticate hates fighting types such as hitmonchan, gurdurr and primeape. Mesprit 1v1s all 3, gets up rocks for it, and has speed control to help against faster pokemon. Also Healing wish makes it so alolan rat can break and then clean in the same match.

Qwilfish @ Black Sludge
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Scald
- Pain Split/Toxic Spikes

Mesprit + Qwilfish is one of PU's best hazard stacking cores. Mesprit sets up Stealth Rock and resists/is immune to Psychic and Ground for Qwilfish. Qwilfish sets up Spikes and/or Toxic Spikes and resists Bug for Mesprit. A 252/120+/136 EV spread maximizes Qwilfish's physical bulk, while allowing it to outpace neutral-natured Base 70s like Solrock, Poliwrath and Ludicolo.

Votes are in! With four votes, Twix is the winner, so congrats!

Magmortar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 100 HP / 252 SpA / 156 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast

So this week I thought we'd look at what's arguably the best Fire-type in the tier now that Charizard has departed, Magmortar. Able to boast several successful sets and almost unresisted coverage backed-up by a powerful base 125 Special Attack stat and a decent base Speed of 83, along with a useful immunity to sleep, it's no surprise Magmortar currently sits at A+ on the Viability Rankings. We'll be using the standard AV set for this week.

You have until Sunday!

Basically, Swanna keeps rocks off, serves as a ground immunity and water resist. The rock weakness both have can be patched up.

Swanna @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Hurricane
- Roost
- Defog

I am nominating Shiftry.

Shiftry @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Defog
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Leaf Storm

The combination of its Grass typing and STAB Knock Off allow it to take on and soften things Magmortar is weak to. It can naturally force out Water, Ground and Rock types, all of which threaten Magmortar. 50/50 predictions let it potentially Knock Off an answer, such as Clefairy, Gurdurr, Togetic and AV Hitmonchan, which makes it easier for Magmortar to potentially sweep late-game. With Defog, it removes Rocks and T-Spikes from the field, something which Magmortar is exceptionally weak to, especially with the increasing popularity of Hazard Offense teams.

On the contrary, Magmortar scorches Bug, Grass and Steel types, zaps Flying and Water types which are neutral to Grass, and quakes fear into Poison types. Magmortar is also a good natural resist to Fairies, especially on the special side.
