Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Sawsbuck outspeeds all variants of RP Relicanth (even Jolly 252 Spe) at 475 Speed, and can OHKO with its Grass STAB despite Relicanth's immense physical bulk. However, there is a small chance that Relicanth survives, so you need either 1 layer of hazards or some prior damage on Relicanth to ensure the OHKO. I slashed Seed Bomb as an option because it does slightly more damage than Horn Leech, and that small difference is sometimes important in this specific encounter.
252 Atk Sawsbuck Horn Leech vs. 104 HP / 4 Def Relicanth: 328-388 (89.3 - 105.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock (31.3% chance to OHKO without Rocks)
252 Atk Sawsbuck Seed Bomb vs. 104 HP / 4 Def Relicanth: 348-412 (94.8 - 112.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock (68.8% chance to OHKO without Rocks)
Machoke @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 160 HP / 252 Atk / 24 Def / 28 SpD / 44 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Bullet Punch
- Ice Punch
Relicanth struggles to 3hko Machoke, while Machoke gets the clean 2hko with Close Combat. With rocks there is a chance that CC is an ohko, and Bullet Punch can make any low rolls of CC w/rocks into KOs. It should also be noted that a Guts boost makes CC into a clean KO with or without rocks, and DynamicPunch variants get the 2hko as well.
Relicanth ---> Machoke
252+ Atk Relicanth Head Smash vs. 160 HP / 24 Def Eviolite Machoke: 90-107 (26.3 - 31.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ Atk Relicanth Waterfall vs. 160 HP / 24 Def Eviolite Machoke: 97-115 (28.4 - 33.7%) -- 0.5% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Relicanth Earthquake vs. 160 HP / 24 Def Eviolite Machoke: 81-96 (23.7 - 28.1%) -- 92.6% chance to 4HKO
Machoke ---> Relicanth
252+ Atk Machoke Close Combat vs. 104 HP / 4 Def Relicanth: 288-338 (78.4 - 92%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Guts Machoke Close Combat vs. 104 HP / 4 Def Relicanth: 426-504 (116 - 137.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Machoke Bullet Punch vs. 104 HP / 4 Def Relicanth: 33-39 (8.9 - 10.6%) -- possible 9HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Machoke Dynamic Punch vs. 104 HP / 4 Def Relicanth: 236-282 (64.3 - 76.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Ok, Rotom-F can't switch in on a Head Smash unless it wants to get wrecked, but it can tank a Waterfall handily, and is immune to Earthquake. Anyways, Rotom-F isn't meant to risk switching directly on Relicanth, but should be used as a revengekilling tool against it, as Rotom-F, with a Choice Scarf, is able to outspeed Relicanth and is able to 1HKO it using Thunderbolt.
Quilladin is a solid counter to Relicanth with it's great defense, and grass type. Quilladin also just doesn't counter Relicanth, but can also take advantange of it as it can set up Spikes on it. This only doesn't make Quilladin a great counter to Relicanth, but also makes it a threat that can take advantage of Relicanth and threaten the opposing team as both Seed Bomb + Spikes will force it out, and punish the opposing team.
Calcs:
252+ Atk Relicanth Head Smash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Quilladin: 105-124 (32.3 - 38.1%) -- 96.8% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Relicanth Head Smash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Quilladin: 105-124 (32.3 - 38.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Relicanth Head Smash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Quilladin: 105-124 (32.3 - 38.1%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes
This Means War (Gabite) @ Eviolite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 248 HP / 76 Atk / 104 Def / 80 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Toxic
With a solid defensive typing and pretty solid bulk, Gabite can be considered a pretty solid counter to Simisear. Overheat and Rock Slide are both resisted & Superpower doesn't do much damage. Superpower after a Knock Off is somewhat scary, but Gabite survives regardless and easily OHKO's back with Earthquake.
4 SpA Life Orb Simisear Overheat vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Gabite: 97-114 (28.6 - 33.6%) -- 0.4% chance to 3HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Simisear Superpower vs. 248 HP / 104 Def Eviolite Gabite: 116-136 (34.2 - 40.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Simisear Rock Slide vs. 248 HP / 104 Def Eviolite Gabite: 36-43 (10.6 - 12.6%) -- possible 8HKO
76+ Atk Gabite Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Simisear: 342-404 (117.5 - 138.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Carbink @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
Rock slide is an 8hko after leftovers, and the rest do even worse. Carbink can easily set up calm minds, or set up rocks etc if its using a different set- I just think CroBink is the most effective currently. Also checks Dodrio, Stout and Machoke in one, so a handy mon in this meta.
252 Atk Life Orb Simisear Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Carbink: 75-90 (24.6 - 29.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Simisear Rock Slide vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Carbink: 48-57 (15.7 - 18.7%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 SpA Life Orb Simisear Overheat vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Carbink: 62-74 (20.3 - 24.3%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Simisear Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Carbink: 30-36 (9.8 - 11.8%) -- possibly the worst move ever
Eh, that's fair on the Machoke. I went with the Guts variant because of the ohko, but was sure to throw in the D-punch calcs as well. Anyway,
Kadabra as a check:
Kadabra @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Signal Beam
- Hidden Power Fighting
- Thunder Wave / Encore
Kadabra outspeeds and can ohko after Stealth Rocks with Psychic. Even in the event of Simisear not getting the damage from Stealth Rocks, Kadabra can always take one hit thanks to Focus Sash and Magic Guard and then grab the 2hko with Psychic. Kadabra is also noteworthy in the fact that it checks all variants of Simisear pretty well: Scarf variants can't KO in one hit so they could die to the Psychic if not crippled by Thunder Wave, and Nasty Plot/Substitute variants are locked into the setup move by the optional Encore to force the switch if the monkey tries to set up either on the switch-in. The only way that Kadabra doesn't beat Simisear is if the Focus Sash is broken prematurely AND Simisear can take the Psychic...and even then, Kadabra can just paralyze with Thunder Wave to make Simisear considerably easier to deal with.
252 SpA Kadabra Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Simisear: 225-265 (77.3 - 91%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
This is the only calc that is relevant, since Kadabra is not meant to tank any hits at all...ever.
Stunfisk @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Discharge
- Earth Power
- Toxic
Stunfisk pairs a solid bulk and a good defensive typing, which allow him to tank any Simisear hit freely and almost OHKO it back (with the Naive nature lowering its special defense) :
0 SpA Stunfisk Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Simisear: 266-314 (91.4 - 107.9%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
What's more, Stunfisk can even paralyse Simisear with its Static ability, isn't it wonderful ?
Few calcs showing his resistance :
4 SpA Life Orb Simisear Overheat vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Stunfisk: 181-214 (42.8 - 50.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Simisear Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Stunfisk: 113-134 (26.7 - 31.7%) -- 26.2% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Simisear Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Stunfisk: 92-109 (21.8 - 25.8%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
Even if it has typing advantage, Floatzel isn't that bulky and shouldn't switch often on Simisear as it can at least tank 1 hit. Instead Floatzel, is and should be mainly used as a revengekiller or to soft check Simisear, as it is able to outspeed Simisear and 1HKO it with both its Water-type STABs, even though you'll end up using Surf most of the time if you carry it because you don't want to get lucked right.
Counter
Missy is immune to return/earthquake and can break its sub or Ko it with foul play or cripple with will-o-wisp. it can even taunt it to stop further set-up if missy has been toxicd'
Vullaby @ Eviolite
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Taunt
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Defog
Vullaby can take advantage of Bouffalant's high Attack stat and access to SD with Foul Play. Once Bouffalant is at +2, Vullaby can take any hit and use Foul Play to OHKO it.
+2 252+ Atk Bouffalant Return vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Vullaby: 187-222 (54.5 - 64.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 8 Atk Vullaby Foul Play vs. 168 HP / 0 Def Bouffalant: 316-373 (84.7 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
Gourgeist-Super @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Synthesis
- Will-O-Wisp
- Foul Play
- Leech Seed
Bouf can't even guarantee a 3hko with a +6 Earthquake, so Gourgeist can switch in whenever and kill with foul play, which always breaks the sub and is able to 1hko at +4 and above.
+6 252+ Atk Bouffalant Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Gourgeist-Super: 133-156 (35.6 - 41.8%) -- 86.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Gourgeist-Super Foul Play vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Bouffalant: 106-125 (29.1 - 34.3%) -- 99.9% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
Thanks to Boomburst, Chatot can hit through Bouff's Substitutes. It is able to OHKO it after the prior damage from Sub. However, if it does not make a Sub, it needs Stealth Rock damage and a tiny bit of prior damage, as shown in this calc:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Chatot Boomburst vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Bouffalant: 310-366 (85.1 - 100.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
It cannot switch in at all because of its ridiculously poor bulk, so it is only a check.
252+ Atk Bouffalant Return vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Chatot: 303-357 (103.4 - 121.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Sometimes Bouff carries Soundproof, so make sure you scout the ability before using Chatot.
Solrock @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Morning Sun
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rock Slide
Thanks to its typing and bulk, Solrock can easily tank Return, and is immune to Earthquake because of Levitate. Bouffalant can use Substitute and then set up a Swords Dance or two, but Solrock can still recover the damage with Morning Sun, while Rock Slide can do enough damage to break the sub at times. If Bouffalant isn't subbing, then it risks to get burned and become useless.
Drifblim @ Liechi Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 12 HP / 244 Atk / 40 SpD / 212 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Acrobatics
- Knock Off
- Will-O-Wisp
Ghost bird is immune to both Return and Earthquake and thus counters SubSD Bouffalant pretty well. Not a reliable counter without entry hazard removal though because Stealth Rock will eventually kill it.
Zweilous can take multiple hits from Exeggutor and OHKO it with Crunch. If Zweilous were to predict a switch out, it can make use of the free turn by catching the switch-in and paralyzing it with Thunder Wave.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Zweilous: 152-179 (43.6 - 51.4%)
-2 252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Zweilous: 76-90 (21.8 - 25.8%)
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Ancient Power vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Zweilous: 94-111 (27 - 31.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ Atk Hustle Zweilous Crunch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Exeggutor: 368-434 (111.1 - 131.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Blasphemy (Munchlax) @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Body Slam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Thanks to insanely high bulk on the special side boosted by Eviolite, Munchlax can comfortably take any hit from Exeggutor and use it as set up fodder. Munchlax only needs two Curses in order to 2HKO Exeggutor. It can always Rest off any damage taken later.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Psychic vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Munchlax: 127-150 (26.8 - 31.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Munchlax: 181-214 (38.2 - 45.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 8 Atk Munchlax Body Slam vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Exeggutor: 184-217 (55.5 - 65.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Vullaby @ Eviolite
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Knock Off
- Foul Play
Unless it switches on Ancient Power, which shouldn't 2HKO anyway, Vullaby takes little to no damage as it is also immune to Psychic. From there, Vullaby can use Knock Off, negating a big part of Exeggutor damage, or directly Foul Play hoping to catch a physical attacker coming in. Vullaby can also recover the damage tanked with Roost. Vullaby should be weary switching on Ancient Power when Stealth Rock are on the field though.
Klang @ Eviolite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD
Impish Nature
- Shift Gear
- Gear Grind
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Klang resists both of Exeggutor's STAB attacks and takes less than half from Hidden Power Fire, if Exeggutor carries it, so isn't completely screwed if it gets hit. If the Exeggutor is locked into anything other than Hidden Power Fire it becomes setup fodder.
Articuno @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 244 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Freeze-Dry
- Heal Bell
- Haze
Defensive playstyles aren't great now, but SpDef Articuno is one of my go to mons when building them, since it covers so much ground while providing good utility- the only special attackers that beat it one-on-one from A to S are Nasty Plot Raichu and Specs Rotom, and it's one of the few counters to any Floatzel set out there. It isn't 2hko'd by any of Egg's moves but Ancient Power, and since this spread outspeeds you can PP stall it with roost, pressure meaning that it only has 4 uses. It's only a check because if you don't keep rocks off then you'll only be able to switch in once before dying next time you switch in.
The last two slots are really customisable depending on what the team needs- Hurricane, Roar, Toxic and Substitute are some other good options.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Psychic vs. 248 HP / 244+ SpD Articuno: 145-172 (37.8 - 44.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 244+ SpD Articuno: 105-124 (27.4 - 32.3%) -- 70.6% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 244+ SpD Articuno: 60-72 (15.6 - 18.7%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 244+ SpD Articuno: 130-154 (33.9 - 40.2%) -- 36.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Ancient Power vs. 248 HP / 244+ SpD Articuno: 260-308 (67.8 - 80.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Articuno Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Exeggutor: 206-246 (62.2 - 74.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Ninjask fares well against Exeggutor thanks to U-turn and X-Scissor, which deal a lot of damage due to Exeggutor's 4x weakness to Bug. However it can't switch in on a Psychic, Ancient Power, or HP Fire. Ninjask could switch in on a Giga Drain it takes a lot of damage from it even though Ninjask has a 4x resistance to Grass.
252+ Atk Choice Band Ninjask U-turn vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Exeggutor: 672-792 (203 - 239.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Ninjask X-Scissor vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Exeggutor: 768-904 (232 - 273.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Ninjask: 408-481 (155.1 - 182.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Ninjask: 362-428 (137.6 - 162.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
