Serious random Pokémon for avatars during redesign?

I've been away from Pokémon and Smogon for awhile, and I see now that during the redesign, my avatar was switched to the animated Solosis sprite. I also see other people with animated Pokémon for their avatars. Did everyone's avatar get switched to a random Pokémon, or is there a way to pick which Pokémon's sprite you have without uploading a custom avatar (I'm on a phone now so I can't upload a file)?

We were forced to switch from vBulletin about a year and a half ago due to a particularly nasty attack on the site. We basically had to start from scratch, and all avatars were lost. Instead of using the Xenforo default avatar (a question mark), chaos implemented random Pokemon for avatars.
