ASB Arena

The ASB Arena is different this morning. Although it normally sees constant use by trainers of every caliber in matches of every variety, the usual crowds are absent, and an odd silence fills the space. The reason for this is simple; the stadium has been reserved—before the scheduled bouts are to occur—for a private examination of a trainer's capabilities, conducted by an official appointed by the ASB Mentoring Program.

A man promptly emerges from the far side of the building and takes his place at the mark designating a trainer's position when a battle is ongoing. He is jayelt413, leader of the Fairy Gym, formidable trainer in general, and today's tutor. Due to the narrator's omniscience, we are able to learn of the contents of the seven Pokeballs he carries before he chooses to reveal them, as detailed below.

Sylveon [F] [Pixis]
Nature: Quiet (+1 SpA, Spe ÷ 1.15, -10% Evasion)
Type: Fairy

[Abilities]
Cute Charm (Passive): This Pokemon's natural cuteness causes Pokemon of the opposite gender to be attracted to it 30% of the time after striking with a contact move.
Pixilate (Toggle) [Hidden]: By default, this Pokemon's Normal-type moves are Fairy-type moves, and have an additional two (2) BAP boost. When toggled, this Pokemon's Normal-type attacks have their BAP increased by two (2). Only Normal-typed moves changed by Pixilate receive this boost, and not all Fairy-type moves. If a Pokemon has been skill-swapped multiple abilities that change Normal-type attacks, the attacks become dual-typed, but the BAP boosts of the abilities do not stack.

Jay checks his watch, casts a scrutinizing eye over the field, and prepares a pencil and notebook. He then calls to his student, informing the examined that the stage has been set, and the conditions deemed proper. The apprentice battler takes the field and assumes his place opposite jayelt.

The tutee of this match is former Flying Gym leader, P2X7. His presence has been sporadic in the past, but he seems to be attempting to increase his activity, as evinced by his request to undergo this program. This is his team:

P2X7's team:

Tomohawk [Saber] (Male) (*)
Nature: Modest (+1 SpA, -1 Atk)
Type: Flying/Fighting
Flying: Flying STAB; immunity to Ground attacks and the Arena Trap Ability except under the effects of Smack Down and Gravity, even for ground-based flying Pokemon. Will always hit foes with Dig (except other Flying-types) and Dive. Cannot be hit by Dive unless the attacking Pokemon has a size class greater than four (4). Unaffected by Spikes or Toxic Spikes when switching in. Able to hit Pokemon in the evasive stage of Bounce, Fly, or Sky Drop with single target moves that hit Pokemon on the field regardless of position.
Fighting: Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.

Abilities:

Intimidate: (Trigger) When this Pokemon initially goes out into the battlefield, it generates an intimidating roar or battle cry that shakes all opponents on the battlefield, lowering their Attack stage by one (1). The Attack drop is maintained at the end of each round. If an opponent switches in a new Pokemon, Intimidate can be activated again as a command, and will affect all opponents.
Prankster: (Passive) The Pokemon is always prepared for engaging in sneaky tactics and trickery, giving its non-damaging attacks an increase in priority level.
Justified (DW): (Passive) This Pokemon's body reacts to dark energy, invigorating its passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, the Pokemon's Attack will increase one (1) stage. A boost gained this way by another Pokemon's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

Fighting: Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.

Abilities:

Aurumoth [Purity] (Male)
Nature: Hasty(+15% Spe, +14% Accuracy, -1 Def)
Type: Bug/Psychic
Bug: Bug STAB; Adds an additional guaranteed attack on all multi-hit moves (does not include two hit moves) with a total hit cap of five (5).
Psychic: Psychic STAB; can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:

Weak Armor: (Toggle) No default effect. When toggled, the Pokemon loosens its worn defensive armor so that it will break off when an opponent uses a contact attack, reducing the Pokemon's Defense and increasing their Speed by one (1) stage for each hit.
No Guard: (Passive) This Pokemon has an immense confidence from perfecting each of its attacks, giving them all perfect accuracy. As a result, it feels it can weather every strike, and will not dodge an attack even if ordered to. Only when an OHKO move is issued by the opponent does sense return, and the Pokemon acts normally. Additionally, even with their extra skill, the power and exhaustion involved in OHKO moves prevents them from being benefitted by No Guard; they will have their normal accuracy.
Illusion (DW): (Passive) Whenever you send this Pokemon out, it can feign the appearance of another member on your squad. If this Pokemon is damaged by a direct attack, the Illusion will cease at the end of the round. Direct damage is any attack that does damage to the Pokemon's HP. Attacks that are evaded, blocked via Protect, or damage a Substitute are not considered direct damage. It will retain the typing and moveset of the Pokemon with Illusion. [Usage Note: PM the ref if you are sending out a Pokemon with Illusion with the info on said Pokemon and one of your squad members in a Switch=KO battle. You must use that squad member later in the battle though.]

Able to hit Pokemon in the evasive stage of Bounce, Fly, or Sky Drop with single target attacks that hit Pokemon on the field regardless of position.

Abilities:

Rock Head: (Passive) This Pokemon's hard body prevents it from taking recoil damage from moves such as Double-Edge, Flare Blitz, and Head Smash.
Pressure: (Passive) This Pokemon's presence fills the air with intense anxiety, and any damaging or status attack launched at this Pokemon costs the opposing Pokemon two (2) more energy to perform.
Unnerve (HA Unlocked): The Pokemon's presence causes immense tension in the opponent, preventing them from eating a held Berry. Natural Gift may still be used.
Tough Claws (Mega): This Pokemon has sharp claws that enhance the power of all of its contact attacks by two (2) BAP.

The two trainers affirm the rules of the situation at hand and grasp their Pokéballs of choice, preparing themselves for battle. The tension is momentarily thick as the battlers lock eyes, each waiting to act until the moment is right. Seconds later, six Pokéballs fly into the air and precipitate in a burst of blinding light.

Once the brief, yet blinding, flash ends, the arena is occupied by two opposing trios, each ready to engage in battle. The examiner is represented by the always-powerful Kecleon and Sylveon, as well as an unconventional choice in Glalie. This last choice appears to be fruitful, though, as the apprentice has brought a collection of Flying-types to play; the familiar shapes of Aerodactyl and Togekissmake themselves clear, accompanied by the lesse-seen Cawmodore.

jayelt signals to his Sylveon, who responds by releasing a spherical mass of incandescent, fairy magic that serenely homes in to Glalie, who absorbs the gift and begins to illuminate the arena with a menacing, red light. The icy creature begins to rotate its body at increasingly high speeds and propels itself at the tutee's Pokemon.

Sensing the imminent threat posed by the rampant Ice-type, P2X7 issues a pair of quick commands to two of his Pokemon, and his Aerodactyl emits a piercing screech as it dives toward the ground, snatching several large boulders; it proceeds to dart over jayelt's side of the field, and releases its burden in a rain of stone. The projectiles knock over Sylveon, but are dashed upon Glalie's hard shell (though not without harm). However, the Kecleon has been pinned by a heavy boulder, which, while lacking the amount of risk present inherent the real-world equivalent, will definitely require additional time to remove the hindering objects.

As Glalie advances upon its target, it is met by the student's Cawmodore, who crashes headfirst into its opponent, but failing to alter its course by any meaningful amount. With all obstacles cleared, Glalie has little distance left to cover before colliding with Aerodactyl. A loud "thump" can be heard as the pterosaur is launched away from the force of the impact an into the stadium wall.

While Kecleon works to escape the trap, it draws the attention of the student's Togekiss. When the lizard frees itself, it is greeted by the menacing shape of the latter Pokemon, who unleashes a blast of searing light that also catches Sylveon in the radius.

Observing the success of Aerodactyl's previous attack, P2X7 orders the Pokemon to repeat the technique, and rocks once more bombard his foes. However, the strategy is not as effective this time around, as the earthen hail is unable to restrict the movements of its victims. As the resultant loud of dust and stone fragments settles, Glalie can be clearly seen preparing itself to attack; sunlight streaming in from the stadium windows refracts off of seemingly empty air around the Ice-type, which casts its intentions into the public eye.

A slight drop in temperature can be felt within the boundaries of the field, and Cawmodore, taking note of this alteration, has barely enough time to fire a beam of metalline energy at its icy adversary before it must attempt evasive maneuvers. The bird is lucky, as the force of the attack redirects Glalie's point of focus, allowing Cawmodore to escape unscathed; however, the same cannot be said for Aerodactyl, who now must bear the full brunt of the damage as Glalie creates a storm of harsh, snowy winds and sends it in the direction of the tutee.

Sylveon, finding an opportunity, once more channels its innate magic, but this time uses it to enhance its own offensive prowess as it lets out an oddly enchanting screech that disorients its opposition and renders them momentarily stunned with surprise at the force of the move—with one exception. As a fellow member of the faerie folk, Togekiss is more able to regain control of its abilities than are its teammates, and retaliates with a second, explosive generation of light, although it is unable to match the sheer power of its opponent.

The round draws to a close, but Kecleon has a trick remaining: as its eyes and abdominal pattern mysteriously shed light, it gesticulates as if it were stretching and distorting the space in front of it. At first, the purpose behind these strange motions is unknown, but by the time the battle has reached a lull, something has changed; the combatants appear to move in odd ways, defying natural expectations. This seems to have lent a slight advantage to the examiner, as we might see in future rounds.

Suggestions:
- I strongly suggest using single-line formats for things doubles+, especially if switching is an option. It just looks neater and is less work on the ref. Not important though.
- X generally marks a dead mon. I suggest using O or B for non-dead mons that aren't active.

Errors:
Pre-Round
- Glalie's Base Stats are 80 all across the board, which means it should be getting a boost to all stats via Rare Candy (Boosted Stats: Atk (RC), Def (RC), SpA (RC), SpD (RC) [From ASBot/NDA]) [Major]
- Kecleon's Nature is Rash, so why does it have -10% Evasion [Minor]

Action 1
- Sylveon's Helping Hand should receive STAB EN reduction, since Pixilate affects all Normal-typed moves, not just the Damaging ones. [Minor]
- Aerodactyl's Rock Slide will do less to Glalie once you apply the fix from earlier. [Effect of other error]
- Cawmodore's Iron Head will experience the same damage change. [Effect of other error]

Action 2
- Aerodactyl's Rock Slide will do less to Glalie once you apply the fix from earlier. [Effect of other error]
- Cawmodore's Flash Cannon will experience the same damage change. [Effect of other error]
- The effect chance of Flash Cannon is 10%, not 20%. [Minor]
- Glalie's Blizzard should be dealing more damage for 2 reasons:
+ Glalie gets a +2 BAP bonus from Rare Candy, since its a single-typed Pokemon [Minor]
+ Glalie gets the SpA boost from Rare Candy, as mentioned earlier [Effect of other error]
- Sylveon's Hyper Voice should cost 2 more EN thanks to Aerodactyl's Pressure [Minor]
- Sylveon's Hyper Voice calculations against Cawmodore do not match the final result. The ending result is correct, however. [Minor]

Post-Round
- Trick Room lasts for 3 more rounds [Minor]
- Sylveon's EN total should be 1 lower, Glalie's HP total is too low, Aerodactyl's HP is too high [Effects of other errors]
- Already mentioned this once, but Glalie's stats should be different due to the RC Boost and Kecleon's Nature is Rash, so why does it have -10% Evasion [Effects of other errors]

Address these, then I will order.

1) I shall most likely shift formats for the next round tbh.
2) I usually use "O" to denote an inactive Pokemon, but I must have forgotten this time. Sorry.

3) My mistake.
4) I was auto-piloting when writing the "Other" section.

5) I was not aware of that.
6) -
7) -

8) -
9) -
10) I'll more closely examine the NDA next time.
11) It's been too long since I've reffed a single-typed Pokemon with Rare Candy; my apologies.
12) I thought I applied this when reffing, but I appear to have been mistaken.
13) I...have no idea what I was doing there >.>

14) Fixed.
15) -
16) See 4).

Anyway, this should be correct.

My sincere apologies. If I am not too late, I noticed a few errors with your orders that you might wish to change before I order.

1) Kecleon does not learn Volt Switch, so you might want to use a different move in its second KO sub.

2) Unless I am mistaken, you made Sylveon's more complicated than is necessary; I believe that the "IF Togekiss is not KO'd" part is not needed, as a substitution stating "IF Togekiss is protected by Light Screen" would not activate if Togekiss were KO'd.

3) I am unsure of what exactly you mean with regards to Sylveon's fourth substitution. If you meant "IF Aerodactyl uses a combination consisting of a Damaging Evasive Move and an Evasive Move, than I am somewhat sure that the substitution is illegal, as I doubt that one may make a substitution for a case as precise as that due to rules on Move clauses; I could be wrong, though.

If you meant "IF Aerodactyl uses both a Damaging Evasive Move and an Evasive Move in the same round," then I am slightly more sure that this illegal, as I think that this would attempt to cover a scenario that would normally be covered by two substitutions, one or both of which including a clause of "AND your (previous/following) substitution activated on the previous action".

4) In a similar case to my second point, I feel that there is a redundancy of a similar nature present in Glalie's first substitution.

5) Self-Destruct cannot target a single Pokemon, which means that you should change or clarify Glalie's last substitution.

Togekiss: Aura Sphere (Glalie) - Aura Sphere (Kecleon)
IF Cawmodore is frozen for 1 action by Glale's Ice Fang a1, use Aura Sphere (Glalie) a2.
IF Cawmodore is frozen for 2 actions by Glalie's Ice Fang a1, use Aura Sphere (Glalie) a2.

Aerodactyl: Wide Guard - Wide Guard

Cawmodore: Bullet Punch (Glalie) - Iron Head (Glalie)
KO Sub: IF Glalie is KO'd when you would act, use Iron Head (Sylveon) that action instead.

The beginning of the round is marked by great devastation to the arena, as the examiner's Kecleon and Sylveon perform a powerful, tandem attack: Kecleon begins to initiate the motions required to trigger a landslide, causing two of the tutee's Pokemon to attempt to dodge the attack, which places them directly in the line of fire for Sylveon, who releases a mighty bellow that shakes the stadium to its foundation. Unfortunately for jayelt, though, P2X7's Aerodactyl lifts its feet and manages to snatch its allies and itself from the jaws of danger by quickly creating a large, thin barrier of force that attaches itself to the pterosaur's claws. With this aegis in place, Aerodactyl is able to deflect the first bombardment and, after reorienting the shield, halt the second, resulting in no harm being placed on the student's team.

Once jayelt's assault has ended, Cawmodore, sensing an opportunity that might allow it to gain an advantage, swoops out from the cover provided by its teammate and toward the examiners Glalie, then swings forward the tip of its wing, landing a foudroyant blow to the Ice-type. However, Glalie, though caught off-guard, is not surprised enough to be robbed of its ability to react appropriately, and retaliates by lunging forward and clamping its teeth onto its assailant's outstretched appendage, causing the bird to recoil in shock; this tactic is amplified in power when Glalie flash-freezes the moisture around the point of impact moments before the strike connects, which results in a spray of jagged, shattered ice that peppers Cawmodore's body. Fortunately for the Steel-type, though, Glalie is made to release its hold when an orb of concentrated ki, launched by Togekiss, crashes into its icy body, allowing Cawmodore to slip away from the Ice-type's grip.

At this point, the tutee commands his Aerodactyl to cease blocking and launch an attack, but he is forced to reconsider as, seconds later, a dual assault by Kecleon and Sylveon mandates the reinstitution of the guarding wall used earlier in the match, which results in an outcome that is identical to when it was first used. This time, though, Glalie accompanies its allies in the siege, thrashing the barrier with a frigid, howling mix of wind and sleet, but the its concentration on this task leave it completely unaware of its opponents' plans until it is too late for it to react; Glalie is promptly knocked unconscious after Togekiss repeats its previous course of action and fires another mystical projectile that seeks out the Ice-type.

Finally, Cawmodore, who previously assumed that it, too, would be able to perform a repetition of its routine, decides to change its strategy after seeing Glalie fall, and rams its skull directly into Sylveon's flank, causing the fairy to stumble away from Cawmodore. However, something unexpected occurs at this moment; whether a result of hidden affections suddenly presenting themselves, of a profound sorrow and endearment arising from Sylveon's cry of discomfort, or of a possible concussion if Cawmodore failed to properly reinforce its body before striking, the bird is undeniably stricken with love towards its target. This will surely affect its performance in later rounds, but the exact degree to which this will occur is yet to be seen.

(1) Glalie's Atk rank is 7, not 6, so the Ice Fang does 1 more DMG
(2) Togekiss' Substitution should not have activated, since the Ice Fang rolled a 0a freeze, meaning Sylveon should never get hit. Instead, Togekiss fires at Kecleon, and Glalie gets taken down by Cawmodore. This also means Sylveon's Cute Charm never activates.

Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite

Sorry about the wait.

Togekiss: Dazzling Gleam - Dazzling Gleam
IF all targets of your attack are under the effects of successful P/E moves when you would act, use Aura Sphere (Kangaskhan) that action instead.
IF Kecleon is a Steel-type when you would act, use Aura Sphere (Kecleon) that action instead.
IF all of your targets are in the evasive stage of unsuspended D/E moves used outside of a combo, use Aura Sphere (Kangaskhan) that action instead.
KO Sub: IF Sylveon is KO'd when you would act, AND Kecleon is KO'd, use Aura Sphere (Kangaskhan) that action instead.

Aerodactyl: Rock Slide - Rock Slide
IF Sylveon is under the effects of Endure when you would act, AND it is not Badly Poisoned, use Toxic (Sylveon) that action instead and push back.
IF all targets of your attack are under the effects of successful P/E moves when you would act, use Stealth Rock that action instead.
KO Sub: IF Sylveon is KO'd when you would act, AND Kecleon is KO'd, use Stone Edge (Kangaskhan) that action instead.

Cawmodore: Flash Cannon (Sylveon) - Iron Head (Sylveon)

The examiner calls forth his Kangaskhan, which is immediately enveloped by a bright light as the Normal-type Mega Evolves. Dashing from the shadow of its much more threatening ally, Kecleon deftly extends its long tongue to bludgeon Togekiss, causing the latter Pokemon to lose its composure, taken aback by this unexpected strike. Meanwhile, as a result of Kecleon's earlier dimensional sorcery, Sylveon is able to move with preternatural speed; once Kecleon retreats to a safe distance, the mischievous fey bellows loudly to create a mystical sound that lays waste to the tutee's team. Fortunately for P2X7, though, Cawmodore's metallic feathers offers enough protection against the ways of the Fairy typing that it is able to quickly retaliate, firing a stream of shimmering energy at Sylveon that scores a solid hit, but jayelt's team soon reasserts its dominance as Kangaskhan and its young begin hurling stones of various sizes. The earthen rain pelts to great effect the tutee's team, burying the Flying-type trio under large rocks in an attack that exhausts the last of Aerodactyl's durability, rendering it unsuitable for further exertion.

As Togekiss frees itself from the obstruction provided by Kangaskhan, the egg-bird finds itself once more facing the opposing Kecleon, whose scales assume a reflective, steely state as the lizard whips its tail into Togekiss with surprising force; however, Togekiss is able to prevent further attacks by launching a ki bomb at point-blank range, forcing Kecleon to retreat under threat of super-effective damage. Despite ending its offense sooner than planned, Kecleon has once more fulfilled its role as a combat distraction, as Sylveon is once more provided an opening through which to attack, and the Fairy-type takes gleeful advantage of this fact by repeating its last technique to great effect. Cawmodore is, again, the first of P2X7's Pokemon to react, though, and rapidly closes the distance between Sylveon and itself, allowing Cawmodore enough time to ram its skull into Sylveon's fragile body, leaving the target reeling. Unfortunately for Cawmodore, though, it has unknowingly strayed within arm's reach of Kangaskhan, and the naval bird finds itself immobilized and in an unpleasant interaction, as Kangaskhan grabs Cawmodore and holds back its wings, allowing the junior Normal-type to pummel Cawmodore with a flurry of punches from blazing fists; Cawmodore is eventually able to escape, but it suffers heavy damage and lasting burns from the encounter, which will certainly impair its battle prowess.

  1. Fake Out does more damage: 4+3+2-1.5 = 7.5 DMG
  2. Mega Kangaskhan cannot damage Togekiss as C cannot reach A
  3. Parental Bond on the flinch roll against Caw/Aero A1?
SWITCH PHASE
Kecleon -> Lanturn @ Rare Candy
Sylveon -> Krilowatt @ Life Orb
[Trace: Togekiss' Serene Grace]

Also apologies for the delay, I had the review done a while ago but couldn't figure out what I wanted to do order-wise

P2X7 timeliness is basically the essence of this test. If you don't feel you can commit the necessary time to it then I suggest coming back another time. Pass DQ one more time and I will make the decision for you.
