VGC 21 Regieleki

[OVERVIEW]

With a ridiculous Speed stat, an incredible ability, and unmatched versatility, Regieleki has solidified itself as one of the most dominant forces in the metagame. Its wide range of possible sets allow it to fulfill a variety of roles, making it unpredictable at Team Preview. Regieleki's Max Lightning is also the strongest in the format, and is easily capable of zapping the likes of Kyogre, Lapras, and Yveltal. Unfortunately, Regieleki's lack of coverage makes it unable to hit common Ground-type Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Groudon. In addition, its poor defenses leave it vulnerable to any faster attacks, either from priority users such as Rillaboom or strong Pokemon in Tailwind such as Zacian-C and Calyrex-S.

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Thunderbolt
move 2: Electroweb
move 3: Volt Switch / Hyper Beam
move 4: Protect
item: Magnet / Life Orb / Focus Sash
ability: Transistor
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Electroweb provides speed control against fast threats such as Zacian-C and Choice Scarf Kyogre as well as giving Regieleki a somewhat strong spread move.

* Volt Switch can deal decent damage while also serving as a fast and reliable pivoting option. Hyper Beam allows for Regieleki to hit Ground-types like Landorus-T and Groudon with Max Strike, which also acts as speed control.

* Magnet and Life Orb allow Regieleki to OHKO the likes of Galarian Moltres and Kyogre. Magnet is generally preferred unless Hyper Beam is run. Focus Sash can be used instead to increase Regieleki's survivability without running a dedicated support set.

[SET]
name: Dual Screens Support
move 1: Electroweb
move 2: Thunderbolt / Volt Switch
move 3: Reflect
move 4: Light Screen
item: Light Clay / Focus Sash
ability: Transistor
nature: Timid
evs: 156 HP / 12 Def / 4 SpA / 84 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Electroweb grants speed control needed to maintain momentum against threats like Calyrex-S and Zacian-C.

* Thunderbolt hits for solid damage even without a boosting item. Volt Switch can help maintain momentum by safely pivoting into an ally with screens support.

* Light Screen and Reflect help against Pokemon that otherwise threaten Regieleki such as Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Dialga while also providing security for its teammates.

* Regieleki maximizes its Speed to ensure it can effectively set up screens. This EV spread allows Regieleki to survive strong hits such as Kartana's Max Overgrowth and Xerneas's Max Starfall through dual screens.

[SET]
name: Choiced Attacker
move 1: Thunderbolt
move 2: Volt Switch
move 3: Hyper Beam / Electroweb
move 4: Electro Ball / Electroweb
item: Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
ability: Transistor
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Volt Switch hits hard and fast, allowing Regieleki to deal massive damage to the likes of Kyogre and Galarian Moltres before pivoting out to a partner.

* Hyper Beam can hit Ground-types such as Landorus-T and Groudon and also comes in a speed control option in Max Strike. It is worth noting that Max Strike's damage output is a little lacking due to it not being boosted by Choice Specs, however. Electroweb is both boosted by Choice Specs and able to provide speed control without Regieleki needing to Dynamax at the cost of leaving it walled by Ground-types.

* Electro Ball can severely damage slower threats, notably Calyrex-I, Torkoal, and Porygon2.

* Choice Specs can allow Regieleki to OHKO bulky threats including Yveltal and Charizard that has Dynamaxed, whereas Choice Scarf can let it fight back against opponents like Kyogre and Kartana under Tailwind.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Thunder works well when Regieleki is paired with Kyogre thanks to it being 100% accurate in rain. Eerie Impulse is an alternative option to Light Screen for directly lowering the foe's Special Attack, but it is considered inferior because the drop is undone upon switching out and the move itself is redirected by Lightning Rod. Endure allows Regieleki to stall out more Dynamax turns, especially when paired with Focus Sash. However, it often means giving up Protect. Screech allows physically attacking partners such as Zacian-C to hit for more damage. Extreme Speed grants an easy way to finish off common Focus Sash users like Urshifu-S and Whimsicott. Regieleki can opt to run a more physical set to hit targets such as Ho-Oh and Kyogre even harder due to their significantly lower Defense.

Hey friend, thanks a lot for being willing to take on this analysis. I'd like for this analysis to feature all of the sets that are in the Smogon Pokedex because that's what our team thinks is most representative of the current meta. 3 sets is a lot for your first rodeo, so ping me in discord if you need any help. If you haven't already, you check out my uploaded Kartana analysis to see what we're looking for (most notably, we'd like for important moves to be mentioned with each set, and it's okay if you have to repeat moves so long as you aren't copypasting your examples from one line to the next).

Holler at me or another QC team member once you've got the writeups done for all three sets

[OVERVIEW]

With an ungodly sSpeed stat, incredible ability in Transistor, and superb unmatched (Regieleki is probably the only Pokemon in the series 8 project getting 3 sets, it's that good) versatility, Regieleki has solidified itself one of the most dominant threats in the metagame as a staple swiss army knife in the meta. From Offensive pressure, to screens, speed control, and even dynamax options, it's by far one of the most splashable pokemon and is able to fit on many team archetypes. Its wide range of possible sets from supportive to offensive allow it to fulfill a variety of roles, meaning it's hard to tell exactly what Regieleki will be doing from Team Preview. Magnet builds can do insane damage against unprepared teams, especially with Kyogre running wild in the meta, and screens with Light Clay can give Eleki and its teammates extra longevity. (We'll break this down later in the moveset analyses) Regieleki's Max Lightnings are also the strongest in the tier, and are easily capable of zapping the likes of Kyogre, Lapras, and Yveltal. It isn't all suns and roses for the fast fella though. Base 50 in both defense stats makes it very easy to knockout even with screens, and prankster + tailwind from Tornadus and Whimsicott can also give it a hard time, especially when paired with an offensive threat like Kyogre or Calyrex Shadow, who have no issue OHKOing it. Ground types like Landorus and Groudon can also force it to swap out due to its lack of offensive coverage. Unfortunately, Regieleki's lack of type coverage makes it unable to Landorus-T and Groudon, some of the most popular Ground-type Pokemon around. In addition, its poor defenses leave it vulnerable to any faster attacks, either from priority users such as Rillaboom, or strong Pokemon in Tailwind such as Zacian-C or Calyrex-S.

[SET]
name: Magnetic Offensive
move 1: Electroweb
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Volt Switch / Hyper Beam
move 4: Protect
item: Magnet / Life Orb / Focus Sash
ability: Transistor
nature: Timid
evs: 4HP / 252 SpAtk 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

-Magnet + Transistor greatly boosts your damage, allowing you to 2HKO many things including Zacian and Xerneas.

-Tbolt is your main attacking move and the one you will using the most often. You can also set up your own electric terrain to power up its attacks even more if you choose to dynamax it.

-Electroweb is crucial important for the magnet build, as it gives your team the initiative with providing speed control. It also works as well as an easy way to break sash due to it being a giving Regieleki a somewhat strong spread move. (Spread moves have a ton of benefits, breaking Sash is one of them for sure, but we want to be short and sweet here.

-Volt Switch is for 2 main reasons, to get out of sticky situations when Eleki is threatened, and to give your team momentum when needed. Electro Web into a turn 2 Volt Switch can give a massive initiative when used properly (Keep the mention about momentum, drop everything else imo. Since we added Hyper Beam in this slot, give a mention to Hyper Beam for Max Strike and its ability to hit Ground-types).

-Protect is to increase your eleki's longevity and to potentially allow your partner pokemon to KO a threat for it.

(Everything in the set comments here needs to be reordered. The typically format is to start with moves 1-4, then the item, then the spread. We don't really need to elaborate on Timid Nature/EVs or Thunderbolt and Protect here because it's all really obvious. I'd honestly have one point about why Electroweb is important, then Volt Switch & Hyper Beam, then the items)

Speaking of partners, there are a lot of pokemon who like be beside Eleki. Whimsicott and Tornadus can be great for checking against opposing Tailwind, and offensive options like Calyrex Shadow and Zacian can also greatly benefit from the speed drops. Bulky offensive teams with Incin, Lando, and others also don't mind the speed control since the meta is full of bulky offense.

(At this point, we aren't doing a partners section. you can gauge teammates pretty easily on something like Pikalytics and these clog up the analyses unnecessarily)

move 4: Volt Switch Light Screen

[SET COMMENTS]

-Electroweb (This time just make it about speed control since non offensive regieleki's web doesnt hit as hard)

-Light Screen and Reflect are the bread and butter of any screens user, and you always make sure to run Light Clay with them in order to maximize the damage reduction. (Screens are pretty hard to cover in a vacuum setting like these, but I'd like to see explicit mention of some Pokemon you nerf by setting these up)

-Thunderbolt is the necessary Regieleki's most consistent STAB move, hitting for solid damage even without a boosting item. that you'll want for Eleki in order to hit the many Flying and Water types in the meta.

-Volt Switch is for after you get those screens up, so you can switch into a pokemon that will much appreciate those screens can help maintain momentum by safely pivoting into an ally with screens support. (Put this and the thunderbolt comment in the same line under electroweb)

The ev spread isn't THE absolute spread for screens Eleki either. You can alter it in order to live certain hits (such as investing more in sp def for Kyogre or more in def for Zacian or Rillaboom just to name a couple examples). -Regieleki maximizes its Speed in order to ensure it can effectively set up screens. This EV spread also focuses on both Physical and Special Defense, allowing Regieleki to survive strong hits such as Kartana's Max Overgrowth and Xerneas's Max Starfall through Reflect and Light Screen, respectively. (For pretty obvious reasons, the last thing we want to do is tell people to use different spreads than the ones we're suggesting to be samples. If the spread looks weird and you don't know what it's capable of, just ask! We can help you out or come up with a better one)

Unlike Magnet Eleki, who doesn't mind being on either bulky or hyper offense, Screens Eleki prefers to be on bulky offense since bulkier pokemon benefit more from the screens. You can use it on a hyper offense team, but it won't get you as much mileage as the magnet build.

(See my comment on team options from the above set)

[SET COMMENTS]
-Volt Switch hits hard and fast, allowing Regieleki to deal massive damage to the likes of Kyogre and Galarian Moltres before pivoting out to a partner.

-They key difference between this build and the Magnet build is the damage. 1.5 vs 1.2 is a massive difference, and with Electro Ball + Hyper Beam, it can put dents in places where Magnet Eleki can't.

-Electro Ball when boosted by Specs with Eleki's speed can do tons of damage, especially if under tailwind can severely damage slower threats, notably Calyrex-I, Torkoal, and Porygon2 (All Pokemon Regieleki can realistically have Full Power Electro Ball against).

-Hyper Beam can allow it Regieleki to hit Ground-types such as things that it previously couldn't, meaning it no longer gets completely walled by Landorus-Therian and Groudon, while. You can also dynamax and Max Strike spam, giving you also coming with an option for speed control thanks to Max Strike. while still doing tons of damage. (Add an Electroweb mention here. Be sure to swap this with Electro Ball to keep the order of the moveset correct!!)

-Choice Specs ... , while Choice Scarf (the line about each one's positives goes here)

-Depending on the team, you'll want either T-Bolt or Thunder. Thunder if better if you're using it on a Kyogre/Rain team, and T-Bolt is better if you're not. (Now that we're back to offensive sets, Thunderbolt isn't really worth mentioning. Moving Thunder to Other Options)

Contrary to Screens Eleki, Specs Eleki prefers more offensive teammates. You'll want Tailwind in order to maximize Electro Ball's damage, and if you want to use Thunder over T-bolt, a rain setter like Kyogre or Politoed will be necessary as well. (Teammates thing again)

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
(Mention Thunder here as an option for Kyogre teams and why)
There are other viable moves that you can put on Eleki.
-Thunder Cage can be a solid spread move as it traps your opponents pokemon. However, the damage output is much less than Thunderbolt because it has 10 less base attack points than bolt, and it's a spread move.

-Eerie Impulse is one of the best utility moves out there, and it's a very solid move to have on more utility based Eleki builds. an alternative option to Light Screen for directly lowering the foe's Special Attack, but is considered inferior as the drop is restored upon switching out, in addition to the move itself being redirected by Lightning Rod.

Ok Ok Ok. This looks like a lot. But I think your knowledge of this Pokemon and the metagame is actually really good, we just need to tune this up a bit more to conform to the standards of an analysis. Some helpful tools for you when revamping will be the spelling and grammar standards as well as the other analyses in the subforum (check out any of the ones that have at least 1 QC check).

Like I said, I'm more than happy to help in any way possible, just tag me in the discord if you need anything. Just to clarify, this isn't QC 1/2 yet, I'll take another look after you've implemented these changes.

(Content wise I think this gets the point across well. Grammar wise it reads fairly awkward, so I made a few minor changes and will leave the rest up to GP)

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Electroweb Thunderbolt
move 2: Thunderbolt Electroweb (Sorry I missed this on my first glance but yeah with Thunderbolt being omitted and this being an offensive set I'd rather see it be mentioned first)

move 4: Protect
item: Magnet / Life Orb / Focus Sash
ability: Transistor

[SET COMMENTS]

-Electroweb is important for providinges speed control against fast threats such as Zacian-C and Choice Scarf Kyogre as well as giving Regieleki a somewhat strong spread move.

-Volt Switch is mainly to give your team momentum when needed can deal decent damage while also serving as a fast and reliable pivotting option. Hyper Beam is an excellent move to dynamax Eleki with, allowing you to Max Strike any ground types that may threaten it. allows for Regieleki to hit Ground-types like Landorus-T and Groudon (specific examples) with Max Strike, which also acts as speed control.

(Merging Hyper Beam and Volt Switch lines)

-Magnet + Transistor greatly boosts your damage, allowing you to 2HKO many things including Zacian and Xerneas. Alongside Transistor, Magnet ... However, Life Orb ... while Focus Sash ... (look at some more convincing calcs for the damage boosting items, be sure to mention all three)

-Electroweb give you the speed control you need to maintain your momentum. (You can include another speed pkmn or two here that are really helpful to slow down, in general you can keep the wording fairly similar to your first point)

-Light Screen and Reflect help reduce the threat levels of pPokemon that otherwise threaten ERegieleki such as Landorus-T and Rillaboom while also providing security for its teammates.

-Thunderbolt is Regieleki's most consistent STAB move, hitting for solid damage even without a boosting item. Volt Switch can help maintain momentum by safely pivoting into an ally with screens support.

(Merging - Switch the order of this and screens mention please!!)

(switch the order please!!)
-Choice Specs can allow ERegieleki to potentially OHKO more threats(list some examples) and increase your overall power, while Choice Scarf can let it fight back against opponents under tTailwind (Examples important, would mention Kartana and Kyogre) and strengthen Electro Ball's damage against higher speed tiers. (not a huge fan of this point since it isn't the reason for running Scarf, it really is just to outspeed things in tailwind that only it can outspeed)

-Thunder can be a solid option against works well when Regieleki is paired with Kyogre teams because you don't have to worry about accuracy as much thanks to Kyogre's own Drizzle. thanks to it being 100% accurate in rain. Eerie Impulse is an alternative option to Light Screen for directly lowering the foe's Special Attack, but is considered inferior as the drop is restored upon switching out, in addition to the move itself being redirected by Lightning Rod.

(Edit here for brevity) Regieleki's Max Lightnings are is also the strongest in the tier (Careful using "tier" in regards to VGC, I would heavily prefer format or metagame. Reason being that we don't "tier" things in the same way Smogon do (e.g. OU, UU). Things are just legal in VGC, there is no lower tier), and are is easily capable of zapping the likes of Kyogre, Lapras, and Yveltal. In this case, Magnet is just preferred on fully Electric sets, so worth noting that) Focus Sash can be used instead to increase Regieleki's survivability. (Something about this is strange. Of course it increases survivability, it's a Focus Sash, that's what it does. I would probably tie it back in to its bulk)

-Thunder works well when Regieleki is paired with Kyogre teams thanks to it being 100% accurate in rain. Eerie Impulse is an alternative option to Light Screen for directly lowering the foe's Special Attack, but is considered inferior as the drop is restored upon switching out, in addition to the move itself being redirected by Lightning Rod. (Other options such as Endure, Extreme Speed and Screech need to be considered as well. Regieleki's Screech is basically always going to reduce defense due to its Speed (if it hits). Endure is great with Focus Sash to stall out Dynamax turns and to just be generally annoying. Not much explanation is needed for Extreme Speed. I think we can also discuss this in the Discord, but I would kinda like a mention of Physical Regieleki. The point being that while it is more prone to Intimidate, it is far more consistent at OHKOing AV Yveltal, Ho-Oh and Kyogre.)

Most of this is just a matter of adding to OO with stuff I think is relevant, but you're more than welcome to discuss this with us in the Discord. In general, good job! ^^

After we discuss the OO section, I'll move this to QC 2/2 and we'll ship it off to GP.

[OVERVIEW]

With an ungodly Speed stat, incredible ability, and unmatched versatility, Regieleki has solidified itself as one of the most dominant forces in the metagame. Its wide range of possible sets allow it to fulfill a variety of roles, meaningthat Regieleki is unpredictable at Team Preview. Regieleki's Max Lightning is also the strongest in the format, and are easily capable of zapping the likes of Kyogre, Lapras, and Yveltal. Unfortunately, Regieleki's lack of coverage makes it unable to hit common Ground-type Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Groudon. In addition, its poor defenses leave it vulnerable to any faster attacks, either from priority users such as Rillaboom, or strong Pokemon in Tailwind such as Zacian-C or Calyrex-S.

[SET COMMENTS]

-Electroweb provides speed control against fast threats such as Zacian-C and Scarf Kyogre as well as giving Regieleki a somewhat strong spread move.

-Volt Switch can deal decent damage while also serving as a fast and reliable pivotting option. Hyper Beam allows for Regieleki to hit Ground-types like Landorus-T and Groudon with Max Strike, which also acts as speed control.

- Magnet and Life Orb allow for Regieleki to OHKO the likes of Galarian Moltres and Kyogre thanks to the power boost. (however Life Orb does comes at the cost of recoil for the extra 0.1x boost while also boosting the power of Hyper Beam; therefore,. In this case, Magnet is often just preferred on fully Electric sets. , so worth noting that) (c/p error here. . Focus Sash can be used instead to increase Regieleki's survivability without needing to rely on its defense stats.

For clarity of what the above can say: "Life Orb comes at the cost of recoil while also boosting the power of Hyper Beam; therefore, Magnet is often preferred on sets with only Electric-type moves."

[SET COMMENTS]

-Electroweb grants speed control you need to maintain your (wherever possible don't address the reader, generalise this statement around the team) momentum against threats like Calyrex-Shadow and Zacian.

-Thunderbolt is Regieleki's most consistent STAB move, hitting for solid damage even without a boosting item. Volt Switch can help maintain momentum by safely pivoting into an ally with screens support.

-Light Screen and Reflect help reduce the threat levels of Pokemon that otherwise threaten Regieleki such as Landorus-T and Rillaboom while also providing security for its teammates.

-Regieleki maximizes its Speed in order to ensure it can effectively set up screens. This EV spread allows Regieleki to survive strong hits such as Kartana's Max Overgrowth and Xerneas's Max Starfall through screens.

[SET COMMENTS]

-Volt Switch hits hard and fast, allowing Regieleki to deal massive damage to the likes of Kyogre and Galarian Moltres before pivoting out to a partner.

-Hyper Beam can hit Ground-Types such as Landorus-T and Groudon, while also coming with an option for speed control thanks to Max Strike. It is worth noting that Max Strike's damage output is a little lacking due to not being boosted by Choice Specs, however. Electroweb is both boosted by Choice Specs and can provide speed control without needing to dynamax, at the cost of getting walled by ground types.

-Electro Ball can severely damage slower threats, notably Calyrex-I, Torkoal, and Porygon2.

-Choice Specs can allow Regieleki to OHKO bulky threats including Yveltal and Dynamaxed Charizard, whereas Choice Scarf can let it fight back against opponents like Kyogre and Kartana under Tailwind.

Regieleki can opt to run a more physical set to hit targets such as Ho-Oh and Kyogre even harder due to their significantly lower Defense.
