I step onto the field, desperately trying to forget the veritable roller coaster of a match yesterday. The fragile balance of good and evil swiveled wildly around a pinpoint fulcrum, centered on the tormented shoulders of those entirely unready for the burden. As Orcinus and Complication's battle approached its unexpected and terrifying conclusion, it became less a match between two trainers, and more an extension of the age-old conflict between the forces of honor and the rabbling horde of chaos. The constant tilting of the balance left no ending certain, right until the riveting climax spearheaded by Abaddon's...well, I'm still not sure what to call that.

Nevertheless, today is a new day, unbothered by battles greater than my life. Today is the day my team and I have prepared for the past few weeks of training. Today is the true date of our first battle in the tournament, not the dissappointing disqualification last round. We are ready to show the world the strength of rock, not in its true form, but in its truest form, the pure soul and energy of the finest music.

I toss Yuri's ball high in the air, and it cracks open with a flash of light at the peak of the arc. He flits out nervously, unsure of where he is or what exactly is happening. He's always a little spacey, lazily looping in the clear sky with complete disregard for the world around him. I watch him cheerfully for a moment before turning my attention back to the ground. The band is almost ready behind me, in their VIP box set low to the ground. I set up my amp and hook up my guitar; the tournament staff graciously granted me the right to carry those on the field after yesterday's events. Tuning my guitar, I notice Yuri is clutching some scraps of food in his hand, just like I expected and allowed him to do. An orphan of Team Galactic, he is fiercely possessive of whatever food he can get after countless years spent in their captivity, and its understandable. Those cruel monsters hardly even care for their own mothers, let alone their Pokemon. Yuri is scarred, deep within his foreign mind, stunted by malnutrition and lost without purpose. Propoganda and mind-moulding has infected him thoroughly, but slowly he is learning. Slowly, he is turning towards the bright light of compassion, leaving selfish hate behind.

The drummer leads into the beat, and I strike an empowering opening chord, the electric crunch sitting deep in the air throughout the vast arena, as my opponent steps onto the field. A tough nut to crack, for sure. But, I have faith in Yuri. I have faith in love. Together, we will rock them.

Walking onto my platform, I notice my opponent waiting for me. Sitting there with his Golbat, waiting for battle.

Failure is not an option, not again. I must win.

Deciding that she is the best course for victory I send Penny onto the field. I gaze at the opponent's avian friend, fluttering around carelessly like this is meant to be fun. Penny readies herself, unfazed by the opponent's reckless ways. We will power through them like nothing, our weeks of training have prepared us for far stronger than this.

I pull out of my breast pocket a shard of glaciated ice. I can feel the cold radiating around my heart. Handing it to Penny I tell her to show no mercy.

With a roar in confirmation Penny is ready for battle. I face my opponent, eye to eye and am ready to fight...

I try and fail to hide my disgusted frown as I get a better look at my opponent - SubwayJ, infamous for his relentless use of only the strongest Pokemon and complete disregard and disdain for those of lesser power. Glancing to my left, Yuri sees it as well, and contorts his face momentarily in anger before once again forgetting the world at hand. It's good to see progress, even so minor as a little bit of acknowledgement before returning to his normal self. He's already come so far. I'm proud of him, and believe it'll work out - another one of my little projects. No, that's a sickening, dehumanizing word. Another one of my - my friends in need. Yes, friends in need.

I'll wait and see how SubwayJ reacts to the battle - as of now, he has shown nothing to tip my opinion either way. Will he treat his Pokemon worse than Orcinus did in the opening stages of that fateful match? Unlikely. Even among the worst of the worst, I've never seen anything like that, and I hope to Arceus I never do again. Nevertheless, it is not my place to interfere with his life - just to battle him with good sportsmanship. Though, I'll never guess how far I might fall if the situation calls for it...

The drummer (Helton the Rhyperior, he works wonders with his tail beating the bass during the heart of heavy rock bashes) holds back on the beat for a moment, and the song lulls down to a calming interlude - not a serenade whatsoever, but to leave plenty of room for picking it up again. I sing out Yuri's orders softly, and my sweet baritone rings out clearly over the silent stadium.

We've trained for this. Despite the fact that his head is (quite literally) in the clouds most of the time, Yuri's hearing is excellent, like all Golbat. He just chooses, voluntary or not, to ignore most of what goes around him. He understands me perfectly and dives headlong, taking only a few moments to closely examine and chase a candy wrapper fluttering in the wind.

Round 1

I enter the battlefied. Unwilling after a long day of work. But work is work and sometimes you just don't have a choice. I set up my electric piano and give a sign to the drummer, who promptly understands. I send out my bass player Zant, who smirks at the sight of the battle that will unfold and with cords that weren't used in quite some time, I begin...

The stage is set. On one side of the field is Leethoof with Yuri the Golbat, holding Leftovers. Yuri appeared to be agitated. The sight of his opponent made it shudder. But at the same time...those eyes. They see blood. They are blood. As his body gives all signs that he should leave, Yuri stands (or stays afloat) proudly and stares and his foe with a courage befitting of the soldiers. Or the stupid.

On the opposite side of the field is SubwayJ with Penny the Nidoqueen, holding a Nevermeltice. The ground type's eyes are as cold as the ice she is holding and it is clear and she is following orders. And will follow them to the letter. Despite the harmless name, Penny won't stop before her goal is complete: total annihilation. Love doesn't matter, nor does honor. Only power.

The time has come. As I sign for the battle to start, both pokemon know that one single mistake will be their downfall. With that, Yuri acts faster and uses his Super Fangs to deliver the first strike at his foe. A strike of great power that surprised Penny, done with a quick smirk as if to say "I may not be fully-evolved, but I can kill you".

But the Nidoqueen is a machine made to win and win it will, or at least that is what passes on her mind as she uses the Nevermeltice and Sheer Force to fuel a very powerful Ice Beam that takes out a quarter of Yuri's health. Maybe now he knows who he is facing. Yuri's shudders were intensified and, for a second, fear took over his eyes. He sees the great beyond and doesn't feel ready for it. At least not now.

Yuri got a grip at himself and put his focus back on this battle. He dived, but then took a sharp U-Turn. As if he was second-guessing himself. Maybe his reasons for fighting weren't as sound as he thought. Maybe he was taking pity at his foe...stuck with the sole purpose of destroying.

This results on a very weak blow on the Nidoqueen. But Penny isn't merciful. At all. She runs to the pond and jumps on it, relying on its thick skin to not be damaged by the water. The wave that results crashes on Yuri and messes around his thoughts, as well as his heart. Surf.

But how can we let them go on this way?

Yuri tries to get Penny to her senses. Why should they fight? Why all this need for blood and destruction? He emits a Confuse Ray in an attempt to get the message through and for the first time, Penny seems to be second-guessing herself as well. Who is her foe? Why is she there? Unable to answer those questions, Penny Hit herself.

...that gave some clarity to her mind. She was there to kill and destroy and to defeat her foe. While that thought still isn't stable, it was strong enough for Yuri to realise that he has no option.

Yuri hates Penny for what she represents, but he can't come to himself to deliberately hurt her for no reason.

Because of that he flees. He was...
