Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Steelix @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 24 Atk / 236 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
- Toxic/Roar
Steelix is a really useful partner to DD Scrafty, mainly cause Steelix can constantly switch into Fairy types (bar the rare banded Granbull and flamethrower Togetic) and either force them out and cripple with rocks or just straight out beat them. Granted it is sort of easy to rack damage on Steelix, but it is still a reliable partner to Scrafty regardless. Not only can Steelix switch in to fairy types, but it can also switch into a Hurricane/Draco Locked Noivern (which outspeeds Scrafty at +1).
Delphox @ Leftovers
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Fire Blast
- Psychic
A mon that I've been using a lot more recently than I used to, SubCM Delphox is able to set up Togetic, Aromatisse and Granbull depending on their set. This opens up move options for Scrafty as it can run HJK and Drain Punch more reliable. In return Scrafty is able to take out threats to Delphox like Houndoom, Spiritomb, Skuntank, etc.
Camerupt @ Cameruptite
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 156 HP / 252 SpA / 100 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 Def
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast
- Toxic/Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Mega Camerupt is probably the most powerful offensive parter Scrafty has, being able to, in the same way Mega Steelix does, consistently switch into Fairy Types and easily force them out (otherwise Sheer Force boosted Fire Blast is eating them), which is a free Stealth Rock set turn that are really important for Scrafty to beat most of its Fairy-type checks, considering they most of the time get 2HKOd by Poison Jab once the item is knocked off. This set's funniest thing is Hidden Power Ice, which puts in a ton of work against very offensive teams considering how well it lures faster Pokemons that are able to revenge kill Scrafty after one Dragon Dance, thus including Noivern and Choice Scarf Superpower/Outrage Flygon. However, Scrafty is itself a pretty great partner with it since it is an excellent answer to these bulky Waters that threaten a lot Mega Camerupt, such as Jellicent or Alomomola, considering it can easily get rid of their status moves thanks to Shed Skin and even set up over them.
Forgot to post this a while back, now remembered it, silly me
Durant @ Life Orb
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 SpA
- Crunch / Baton Pass
- X-Scissor
- Iron Head
- Superpower
Similar deal with mega steelix but from a wallbreaker point. Durant easily deal with the fairies that trouble scrafty and punch tremendous holes on opposing teams for dragon dance scrafty to clean later on. Durant coverage is practically perfect for RU, crunch is just an added bonus if you need to hit things that would naturally wall this like jellicent, baton pass for some momentum. Life orb for some freedom choosing the moves. Great offensive partner all in all!
Thanks for the nominations this week. The winners for Scrafty are Scythe. , xastify and HypnoEmpire. I also forgot to mention Accelgor's winners being MrAldo , Kableye and Cowtao . Gratz to these people. This week's mon
Scrafty @ Choice Band
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Drain Punch
Scrafty is a great choice imo because of its defensive synergy with Togetic. Choice Banded Scrafty is only the superior choice then its other sets to support Togetic because of its greater bulk and zero set up. While Scrafty can switch in on most threats to Togetic, such as Steelix, Drapion, and Tyrantrum. Togetic is able to check fighting types and Noivern for Scrafty. Intimidate is cool in that it lets it make switching Togetic into attacks. The set should run more speed, but creeping too much limits its ability to act as a defensive partner.
Jolteon @ Life Orb / Expert Belt
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Toxic
Jolteon's best selling point to Togetic is being completely immune to Electric-Type hits. This set further aims to accommodate towards Togetic in other aspects outside the immunity however. Hidden Power Grass and Toxic aid Togetic's stalling ability, and longevity against Rock/Ground-Types such as Rhyperior and Seismitoad. Thunderbolt and Volt Switch are staple moves to Jolteon, as it further assists Togetic trying to get past Alomomola. Togetic in return clears hazards and status, allowing Jolteon to switch in more. Togetic also aids this further, by being a great switch in to Ground-Type moves. If you prefer to keep Jolteon alive through most of your games, sub in Expert Belt. You will be reducing some crucial OHKO's to Jolteon however.
if something threatens out or sets up on togetic, quag is here to save the day tbh. togetic cleans up his status if any, helps against his proneness to hazard setup. i think this all rather speaks for itself
Week 6:
Thanks for the entries, would've hoped for more activity but w/e. New mon this week. The winners this week were tehy , Cowtao and Kableye . Also congrats for Cowtao for making it into Hall of fame
Sigilyph @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic
- Heat Wave
- Energy Ball
Emboar appreciates something able to come in on stuff like Alomomola when locked (and even Rhyperior and stuff if you are manly) and can come in on answers to Sigilyph like Houndoom and Spiritomb pretty easily.
Cobalion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 160 HP / 96 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Volt Switch
- Close Combat
- Magnet Rise / Taunt
Pretty cut and dry. Comes in on some stuff that Sigilyph hates like Mega-Glalie and Drapion. Takes Knock Offs. Provides momentum with Volt Switch and Stealth Rocks to add in 2HKO's / OHKO's. Punishes a few Rock-Types thanks to Magnet Rise. Fun stuff.
Houndoom @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 148 Atk / 108 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
Looking at that set, I realized that Delphox completely walls you. Luckily you got your good ol' friend Houndoom here to save the day. It can switch in on literally any attack of Delphox and Pursuit trap it. I wasn't sure what exactly people run on mixed Houndoom so I decided to run enough attack to OHKO Meloetta after rocks with Pursuit and dumped the rest into special attack for more power. These two also have synergy in that while Sigilyph struggles with bulky psychic types Houndoom can check those, while Sigilyph beats Fighting types for Houndoom.
Specs Rotom-C has amazing synergy with Durant since it can come in on pretty much any Durant answer outside of Mega-Camerupt (nice answer btw: +1 252 Atk Hustle Durant Superpower vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Camerupt: 260-306 (75.8 - 89.2%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock lol) such as Qwilfish, Jellicent, and Alomomola and fire out a very strong hit or just Volt Switch as the opposing Grass-type comes in to get initiative. Of course Durant can come in on said Grass-type and force it out or set up if it is Amoonguss and Durant has Lum Berry
Provides Hazard Support switch Durant loves weakening down its check/counters and can get Durant into battle at full HP thanks to healing Wish. Also can surve as a Scrafty check thanks to Dazzling Gleam and can get rid of scarf Flygon thanks to gleam. Not that much to say the two are petty self explanatory.
Week 8:
So i got motivated to update this thread again. BTW the pokes that are slashed in the archive and those that are empty need to be replaced. Users can post which mon and the partners that they pair up with and have a chance to be in the hall of fame. Anways, new mon.
Meloetta is troubled by dark types in general and having a huge nemesis in Spiritomb so Emboar makes an excellent partner taking advantage of pretty much every relevant dark type there is. Emboar also appreciate Meloetta softening or just getting rid of mons like bulky waters like seismitoad and physically bulky mons that generally trouble Emboar. All in all, they make amazing partners.
Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Atk / 24 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up / Stone Edge / Ice Punch.
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Mach Punch
Gurdurr is another pretty solid teammate for Specs Meloetta imo. As mentioned above, Meloetta mainly struggles with certain Dark- and Steel-type mons. and Gurdurr has absolutely no problem checking the vast majority of these thanks to its typing and solid bulk, (even if you end up getting knocked off by say Sneasel or Scrafty, 85/85 is still ok on the physical side at least) In return, Meloetta's immense power and great special bulk mean that it's more than capable of switching in on and smacking around many of the Pokemon that can stop Gurdurr in its tracks early game, simply using them as opportunities to punch holes in the opposing team. Not much else i can say here really to be honest, pretty simple really.
As the other two have suggested, Meloetta likes a partner to help cover its weakness to Dark attacks. I briefly used a team that pairs Melo with Aromatisse during the Venomoth suspect with pretty good success. Aromatisee is incredibly bulky and offers a SE STAB to force out 'mons like Scrafty, Sneasel, or Spiritomb. More importantly, it allows you to Wish pass to increase Meloetta's longevity and help generate safe switches. More safe switches = More chances to punch holes in the opponent's team
Pelipper is a fairly soft partner for the good special wallbreaker Choice Specs Meloetta is. Thanks to its double-typing, this pivots onto the majority of the tier's bulky Steel-type Pokemon that bother Meloetta's wallbreak ability since its choice-locked, leaving them able to switch in its both STABs more or less easily. With Pelipper's good physical bulk it can moreover check threatning Dark-type sweepers, having reliable recovery in Roost and even access to Hurricane for Dragon Dance Scrafty. It also easily grabs momentum thanks to U-turn on a bunch of passive Water- and Grass-type walls, severely punished by Choice Specs-boosted Meloetta's moves. Last but not least, Pelipper can remove toxic spikes from the area with Defog, quite troublesome for Meloetta's longevity.
Magneton @ Choice Specs
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SpA
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Grass] / Hidden Power [Water]
beyond useful enough 'defensive' synergy, as well as the ability to scare off bulky waters in the short term, specs magneton is useful for its ability to bait and wear down conventional fletch checks such as eelektross, [tox / edge] steelix (who isn't a stellar check, and for that reason i don't prioritize hp water here), lanturn, and seismitoad. in the late-game, magneton is bulky to the point that it can potentially force a fire, fighting, or ground lock for fletchinder to capitalize on.
Note that while the set i posted here is specially offensive Defog, pretty much any Flygon set with Defog works well with Fletchinder.
Flygon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
Flygon is easily one of Fletchinder's best teammates, and it's not hard to see why. Given Fletchinder's 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, Defog / Rapid Spin support is absolutely required when using it, and Flygon is easily one of the most reliable Defog users in the tier due to its versatility, splashability, and Typing+Ability that makes it exceptionally resistant to the entry hazards that it's trying to remove. Outside of simply keeping Stealth Rock off the field so Fletchinder can function to its fullest, Flygon has solid synergy with Fletchinder in general. Flygon's Ground/Dragon typing and Levitate ability help it switch into and threaten many common Pokemon that give Fletchinder trouble, including Rhyperior, Jolteon lacking Hidden Power Ice, Mega Steelix (as 49 mentioned, sort of an eh check but i guess it's worth mentioning anyway), and Eelektross. On top of this, Flygon is also exceptionally good at luring in bulky Fairy-types such as Togetic, Aromatisse, and Mega Audino, all of which are essentially free Swords Dances for Fletchinder. Overall, Flygon is an excellent partner for Fletchinder for a variety of reasons, and definitely one of the Pokemon you'll see paired with it most often.
Steelix @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Atk / 76 SpD / 88 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
Mega Steelix helps Fletchinder in many ways. It serves as a solid check to just about every Rock type and Electric type. Since Fletchinder forces many switches, the FREE Stealth Rocks it provides helps rack up damage on Fletch's checks. Steelix also lures most water types, letting it get off a Toxic to weaken Fletch's checks even more and make beating Alomomola easier.
virizion is an excellent partner for fletchinder, as it sets up the water- and rock- types that stop fletch, such as rhyperior or seismitoad, while fletch beats tangrowth and amoonguss, the most common viriz checks, in return. i chose a special set on viriz because it cares less about status, and can switch into things more easily thanks to giga drain healing you back some health, because fletch is frail af and hates toxics. cool core, and if u use it ur elo will fly up! ha im funny
Virizion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Fire
