OU Salamence

b/w sprites are the best. i talked with jukain and dragon dance isn't getting a set, just for those who were going to comment on that.

Overview
########

Generation VI wasn't very kind to Salamence, due to the introduction of the Fairy-type. Salamence is now limited to what it can do, as there are now safe switch-ins to its Dragon-type STAB moves. Salamence also finds itself outclassed in its usual roles this generation as well. For instance, Mega Charizard X now outclasses it as a Dragon Dance sweeper in that it has better coverage and Tough Claws. Salamence's role as a revenge killer also faces competition from Garchomp, which is immune to Thundurus's Thunder Wave, has access to STAB Earthquake, and isn't weak to Stealth Rock. Salamence is also very susceptible to priority moves such as Sucker Punch and Ice Shard.

However, Salamence has many redeeming qualities. Salamence has dangerously high mixed attacking stats, allowing very few Pokemon to switch into Salamence's onslaught. Salamence's wide movepool also complements it nicely, and its high Speed stat allows to function as a revenge killer. Salamence's great ability in Moxie allows it to boost its Attack to even higher levels.

Choice Scarf
########
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Outrage
move 2: Dragon Claw
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Fire Blast
ability: Moxie
item: Choice Scarf
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Naughty

Moves
========

Dragon Claw is a reliable STAB move, while Outrage is used late-game for more power. Earthquake provides much-needed coverage against Heatran and Tyranitar. Fire Blast is used to hit physically defensive Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory.

Set Details
========

A Choice Scarf boosts Salamence's Speed, giving it revenge killing capabilities. Moxie allows Salamence to boost its Attack every time it finishes off an opponent. 252 Attack EVs with a Naughty nature maximizes Attack. 252 Speed EVs maximizes Salamence's Speed, allowing it to outspeed the entire unboosted tier with a Choice Scarf. A Naive nature can be used to outspeed Adamant Mega Charizard X at +1, but the power loss is noticeable.

Usage Tips
========

Salamence uses this set as a revenge killer and to pick off weakened opponents. Outrage is best used late-game when all of Salamence's checks and counters are weakened or gone, as the Attack boosts from Moxie, combined with Outrage, provide a massive damage output. That being said, using Outrage the first turn that Salamence is in is not advised.

Team Options
========

Defog users and Rapid Spinners such as Mew and Excadrill are great partners, as they can get rid of Stealth Rock, as every time Salamence switches into it, it loses a quarter of its health, and Salamence does find itself switching out often. Entry hazard support from Ferrothorn and Skarmory is helpful, as it weakens opponents, making it easier for Salamence to OHKO them. Wallbreakers such as Mega Charizard Y make for good partners, as they can weaken enough Pokemon for Salamence to sweep effectively late-game. Choice Specs Magnezone is an especially good partner as it can weaken opponents and covers Salamence's weaknesses, while Salamence does the same in return for all of Magnezone's weaknesses. Dragon-types such as Garchomp are also good partners as they can also wallbreak effectively.

Other Options
########

Salamence has many toys that it can play around with. Salamence can run a Dragon Dance set, but it is mostly outclassed by Mega Charizard X and Dragonite because they both have better coverage and better abilities. Salamence can run a mixed set, as it has a wide array of special attacks such as Draco Meteor and Hydro Pump. Salamence has other coverage moves such as Zen Headbutt, Brick Break, and Crunch, but they either provide redundant coverage or Salamence can hit most of the targets of these moves harder with its STAB moves. Salamence has support options such as Wish, Defog, and Tailwind, but they are better used by other Pokemon and are a waste of Salamence's potential.

Checks & Counters
########

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Azumarill, Clefable, and Gardevoir can take a hit from Salamence and OHKO it with a STAB move.

**Priority**: Sucker Punch from Bisharp and Ice Shard from Mamoswine or Weavile can both easily get rid of Salamence. Talonflame can also revenge kill Salamence with Brave Bird.

**Stealth Rock**: Stealth Rock takes a quarter of Salamence's health every time it switches in, and Salamence finds itself switching in and out quite often due to the fact that the opponent will usually send out a check after Salamence has revenge killed a Pokemon.

**Physical Walls**: Most physical walls, such as Slowbro, can take Salamence's attacks well and stall it out.

You should mention Zone for its defensive and offensive synergy not just it's wall breaking.

Also I'm pretty sure it's ice shard not ice punch that has priority in C+C

You should mention the specific fairies like clef/azu/garde that stop it hard and clef can set up on recover any damage dealt. Same thing with who uses sucker punch/ice shard. Also would mention talonflames cb brave bird can revenge after some prior damage. And i'd name slowbro as an example in physical walls among other types. Scarf mence functions nicely on offense Shame mix mence is bleh atm. Need aerialate already hehe bwoii 1/3

minor nitpick, but garde doesnt stop it

252 Atk Salamence Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Gardevoir: 154-182 (55.5 - 65.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

mention directly in the overview that this set struggles hugely with balances since clefable or azu / ferrothorn / landorust or hippowdon it can't scratch due to being forced into one move and each has immunities / bulky resistances on these teams that arent troublesome even at +1.

Mention Mega Scizor as a Fire Blast target, because it resists Salamence's Dragon-type moves, and can tank Earthquake. Also mention Talonflame's CB Brave Bird in Priority moves, like aim said:
252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Salamence: 283-334 (85.4 - 100.9%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
Needs very little prior damage.

You generally don't want Salamence to revenge kill (Mega) Scizor, as Bullet Punch kind of really hurts (especially when set up) :\

I was thinking of a situation in which Mega Scizor switches into Salamence, expecting to take an Outrage/Dragon Claw/Earthquake, then it dies to Fire Blast.
As some sort of lure you mean? Yeah in that case it would work (not sure if it's really worth mentioning though but w/e, I don't have a say in that), I didn't catch that from your previous post :]

Maybe mention some other Dragon-types like Garchomp and Charizard X in team options? Salamence isn't too awful on Dragmag teams and other dragon types can help eliminate/weaken mence's checks and counters.

yeah, i'd even mention garchomp as a required teammate. if you are using salamence to choice scarf, you better be using garchomp for something else or just use garchomp for choice scarf.

Banned deucer.
mention that salamence is just a riskier/worse scarfchomp.

weak to rocks, no stab on EQ, doesn't outspeed +1 base 100s like zardx, can't switch in to like thundurus' thunderbolt for free, etc. trading all these weaknesses for moxie usually isn't worth it.

There was once a time when Salamence was so overpowered, it was banned from DPP OU. However, those times are no more. Generation 6 VI wasn't very kind to Salamence, and introduced due to the introduction of the Fairy-type. This was not good for Salamence, as Salamence is now limited to what it can do, as well as there are now being safe switch-ins to its Dragon-type STABs moves. Salamence also finds itself outclassed in its usual roles this generation as well. For instance, Mega Charizard X now outclasses it as a Dragon Dance sweeper in that it has better coverage and Tough Claws. Salamence's role as a revenge killer also faces competition from Garchomp, who which is immune to Thundurus's Thunder Wave, has STAB on Earthquake, and isn't weak to Stealth Rock. Salamence is also very susceptible to priority moves such as Sucker Punch and Ice Shard,(RC) and is also weak to Stealth Rock.

However, Salamence has many redeeming qualities. Salamence has dangerously high mixed attacking stats, allowing very few walls to survive Salamence's onslaught. Salamence's wide movepool also complements it nicely, and Salamence's high Speed stat allows to function as a revenge killer. Salamence's great ability in Moxie allows it to boost its Attack to sky-rocketing even higher levels.

Choice Scarf

move 2: Dragon Claw
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Fire Blast
ability: Moxie
item: Choice Scarf
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Naughty

Moves
========

Dragon Claw is a STAB move (more detail). Outrage is used late-game for more power. Earthquake provides much-needed coverage against Heatran and Tyranitar. Fire Blast is used to hit physically based Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory.

Set Details
========

A Choice Scarf is the used item, and boosts Salamence's Speed,(AC) giving it revenge killing capabilities. Moxie is the chosen ability and allows Salamence to boost its Attack each time Salamence it finishes off an opponent. 252 Attack EVs with a Naughty nature maximizes out Attack. 252 Speed EVs maximizes Salamence's Speed, and allows it to outspeed the entire unboosted tier with a Choice Scarf. A Naive nature can be used to outspeed Adamant Charizard X at +1, but the power miss loss is noticable.

Usage Tips
========

Salamence uses this set as a revenge killer, and to pick off weakened opponents. Outrage is best used late-game, when all of Salamence's checks and counters are weakened or gone, as the Attack boost from Moxie combined with Outrage calls for provides a huge damage output. That being said, using Outrage the first turn Salamence is in is pretty dumb not advised.

Team Options
========

Defog users and Rapid Spinners such as Mew and Excadrill are great partners, as they can get rid of Stealth Rock, which is absolutely terrible for Salamence,(RC) as since every time Salamence switches in it loses a quarter of its health, and Salamence does find itself switching out often. Ironically,(RC) Entry hazard support from Ferrothorn or and Skarmory is helpful, as it weakens opponents, making it easier for Salamence to OHKO opponents them. Wallbreakers such as Mega Charizard Y make for good partners, as they can weaken enough Pokemon for Salamence to late-game sweep effectively late-game. Choice Specs Magnezone is an especially good partner as it can weaken opponents,(RC) and covers Salamence's weaknesses, while Salamence does the same in return with for all of Magnezone's Ground-type weaknesses. Dragon-types such as Garchomp are also good partners as they can also wallbreak effectively.

Other Options

Salamence has many toys it can play around with. Salamence can also run a Dragon Dance set, but is mostly outclassed by Mega Charizard X and Dragonite because they both have better coverage and better abilities. Salamence can run a mixed set, as it has a wide array of special attacks such as Draco Meteor and Hydro Pump. Salamence has other coverage moves such as Zen Headbutt, Brick Break, and Crunch, but they either provide overlapping redundant coverage or Salamence can hit most of the targets of these moves harder with its STABs moves. Salamence has support options such as Wish, Defog, and Tailwind, but they are better preformed used by other Pokemon and are a waste of Salamence's potential.

Checks & Counters
########

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Azumarill, Clefable, and Gardevoir can take a hit from Salamence and OHKO with a STAB move.

**Priority**: Sucker Punch from Bisharp and Ice Shard from Mamoswine or Weavile both can both easily get rid of Salamence due to them outspeeding Salamence. Talonflame can also revenge kill Salamence with Brave Bird.

**Stealth Rock**: Stealth Rock takes a quarter of Salamence's health every time it switches in, and Salamence finds itself switching in and out quite often (so? elaborate)

**Physical Walls**: Most physical walls such as Slowbro take Salamence's attacks well and can stall it out this conflicts with the OP: 'Salamence has dangerously high mixed attacking stats, allowing very few walls to survive Salamence's onslaught.' i'd recommend removing the 'allowing very few walls to survive bit' and replacing it with something along the lines of 'not many Pokemon can switch into it'
