Here we are, to the Playoffs of the 20th Smogon Tour, one of our most iconic tournament! As usual, the competition was fierce and making it to the last 16 can be considered as an achievement by itself for those who achieved it. Now is the time to embrace your inner Lucario and finish this tournament!

Once again, let's not forget all the people that made this possible, from the hosts to the guys who worked on the spreadsheet. Massive shout-out to Cicada and Soldier here, FR RULES!

We'll get some arts up it here as soon as possible, our main man boudouche is sort of busy these days... I'll make a post to make sure nobody will miss those.

Let's move to the heart of the tournament now. I'll talk briefly about two stuffs that were at the center of the discussions on smogtours earlier today.

The 15th and 16th spot
We have 3 people tied for the last two spots of the top: MetalGro$$, Ox the Fox and xtra$hine at 31 points. Considering these spots are extra sensitive since they dictate who gets in the playoffs and who doesn't, none of them will have a spot based on their win rate. They will have to fight to get in.

What's gonna happen is the following: the three players will be pitted against each other in a Round Robin. The winner of the round robin will have the choice to take the 15th or the 16th spot. We feel it's only logical that they have the choice since they beat 2 opponents to get there. The last playoff spot will be awarded to the person who went 1-1 in that Round Robin.

Important note: let's take this scenario as an example: Metal beats xtra first, then loses to Ox and Ox beats xtra. Ox will choose his spot but xtra and Metal won't have to fight again. Metal will get in playoff for winning the first set vs xtra, even if he lost to Ox only afterwards. Every set counts!

The ties for seeding
Well there wasn't actually any tie ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Cicada hadn't factored in all the byes we've got throughout the tournament and with them taken into account, there is no tie, hurray!

For those of you who are not familiar with the Smogon Tour finals, each match-up will consist of a Bo3 - 1 BW OU, 1 DPP OU, 1 ORAS OU. The better seed will decide the metagame for the first game. The tiers for each metagame are locked at the time of this post (and will be posted below for clarity).

Standard rules, ban lists and clauses apply for these finals.

xtra$hine vs. MetalGro$$ - Better player, should be able to take ORAS and BW

1. Pokémaniac Livio vs. 16. Xtra$hine - Team Italy > one kiddo with a boner for HO
2. Cosine180 vs. 15. MetalGro$$ - Sensing some motivation issues with Cosine lately, but assuming he applies himself fully, he should give Metal a lot of trouble in every tier
3. TDK vs. 14. Shoka - Very close for a 3v14, but giving TDK the edge in ORAS and DPP given what I've seen
4. Sweepage vs. 13. Cicada - I think Cicada is underrated, but Sweepage isn't playing any games and should take care of him
5. Alexander vs. 12. Disenchanted - I think Alex is a really strong player all around, but if Disenchanted does his scouting homework then he could give him a scare
6. McMeghan vs 11. Reymedy - McM has a bit to prove after nearly flopping vs me in ST18 and not making it last season. Reymedy is coming in hot and probably is super motivated, so predicting the upset
7. PDC vs 10. Century Express - Not too sure about Century Express, so gonna roll with PDC
8. Leftiez vs 9. Tesung - I feel like Leftiez is a lot closer to Tesung in ORAS than some would think and that he has an edge in the other two tiers, but last time I predicted Tesung to lose in r1 he ended up winning it all, so should be interesting
