Stone Cold Showdown: OU Warstory

It's been a pretty long period of time since I've had a battle hax-less enough to be a warstory, at least without it being a 6-0 or 5-0 sweep. However, while laddering on TeamUber's server recently, I had a match against well-known battler Stone_Cold22 which came extremely close and actually was quite fun for me. This is also a chance to show my CM Bronzong team in action before I possibly post an RMT seeking advice.

PLDH-MajeSan's (my) team at a glance:

The object of this team is to remove enough of Bronzong's counters so that it can switch in, set up Calm Mind, rest off damage, and defeat most of the opponent's team. It works mostly because no one expects a Bronzong to survive things like a +2 Close Combat from Lucario.

Stone_Cold22's moves will look like this.
PLDH-MajeSan's moves will look like this.
other text will look like this.
Leftovers will be removed.
Scores will be shown after each KO.

Stone_Cold22 sent out Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
PLDH-MajeSan sent out swineMamo (lvl 100 Mamoswine ?).
swineMamo used Ice Shard.
It's super effective!
Breloom lost 71% of its health.
Breloom used Spore.
swineMamo fell asleep!
---
Breloom vs. Mamoswine. While I usually use Stealth Rock in this situation, Ice Shard is also viable, and lead Brelooms tend to be Scarfed anyways. While I dislike not having Stealth Rock up, he doesn't either, and the lack of Poisoning proves that he's scarved. This gives me a good chance to switch. I expect a Stealth Rocker to come in, so I switch to my Zapdos.

GoldDraconian has entered the room.
Stone_Cold22 switched in Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross).
PLDH-MajeSan switched in dosZap (lvl 100 Zapdos).
dosZap is exerting its pressure!
---
Exactly what I thought. Heat Wave should KO, or come close to doing so.

GoldDraconian has left the room.
dosZap used Heat Wave.
It's super effective!
Metagross lost 91% of its health.
dosZap lost 10% of its health.
Metagross used Ice Punch.
It's super effective!
dosZap lost 86% of its health.
---
Woah! That's a Choice Banded Ice Punch if I've ever seen one. A more offensive Zapdos would have been OHKO'd for sure. (Then again, a more offensive Zapdos would have scored the OHKO in the first place). I outspeed, so if I Roost it will allow me to keep Zapdos in the game regardless of what he does.
Stone_Cold22 switched in Latias (lvl 100 Latias ?).
dosZap used Roost.
dosZap restored 50% of its health.
---
Um. Crap. I know the Draco Meteor is coming, but there's nothing I can really do about it at this point, since Zapdos takes at least 70% from it.

Latias used Draco Meteor.
dosZap lost 54% of its health.
PLDH-MajeSan's dosZap fainted.
(6-5, Stone_Cold leads)
Latias's special attack was harshly lowered.
Latias lost 10% of its health.
---
Okay, well, that's bad. Losing Zapdos early on eliminates my ability to defeat Swampert, one Bronzong's bigger counters if they decide to switch it in and phaze it. Well, now I have to decide what to switch to....Porygon2 seems the best bet, since it can easily survive and paralyze whatever it's facing.

PLDH-MajeSan switched in Gon2Pory (lvl 100 Porygon2).
Gon2Pory traced Latias's Levitate!
titogus2000 has entered the room.
Stone_Cold22 switched in Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross).
Gon2Pory used Thunder Wave.
Metagross is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
---
Okay, well, not exactly the switching I was hoping for. Either way, Metagross is done.

Gon2Pory used Thunderbolt.
Metagross lost 9% of its health.
Stone_Cold22's Metagross fainted.

---
Easy. Now I need to check his next move out.

Stone_Cold22 switched in Lucario (lvl 100 Lucario ?).
PLDH-MajeSan switched in Gear (lvl 100 Gengar ?).
Lucario used Close Combat.
It doesn't affect Gear...
---
That turn went exactly as expected. Porygon2's bulk and Thunder Wave are too threatening to his team to allow it to stay alive. However, the Gengar I recently inserted into this team allows me to switch in with no worries and OHKO back with Focus Blast, assuming he stays in.

Gear used Focus Blast.
It's super effective!
Lucario lost 100% of its health.
Stone_Cold22's Lucario fainted.
(4-5, MajeSan leads)
---
Hmm, I was actually expecting him to switch. What does he have back there that he wants to come in at 100%?

Stone_Cold22 switched in Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune).
Suicune is exerting its pressure!
Gear used Thunderbolt.
It's super effective!
Suicune lost 47% of its health.
Suicune used Calm Mind.
Suicune's special attack was raised.
Suicune's special defence was raised.
---
Well, shit, Crocune. If that thing sets up, I'm going to have a hard time stopping it. Fortunately, after two Thunderbolts, an Explosion can KO for sure. Since Lucario's gone, I'm pretty sure he has no more Fighting threats, meaning I can sacrifice Gengar to prevent Suicune from sweeping me.
Milos has entered the room.
Gear used Thunderbolt.
It's super effective!
Suicune lost 31% of its health.
Suicune used Calm Mind.
Suicune's special attack was raised.

Exactly what I was hoping for. He doesn't suspect a thing.

PLDH-MajeSan's Gear fainted.

It's upsetting to give up a Pokemon over 15% extra damage like that, but I can't chance him surviving and Resting off the damage, especially since he doesn't have Leftovers. That means either Chesto Berry (which means a sweep) or Life Orb (which also probably means a sweep). Either way, it's getting into late-game, but I still don't want to bring in my sweeper...since I haven't seen what he has to counter it. Porygon2 is the safest choice.

Stone_Cold22 switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
PLDH-MajeSan switched in Gon2Pory (lvl 100 Porygon2).
Gon2Pory traced Breloom's Effect Spore!
Breloom used Superpower.

Gon2Pory lost 97% of its health.
Breloom's attack was lowered.
Breloom's defence was lowered.
Gon2Pory used Ice Beam.

A critical hit!
Breloom lost 29% of its health.
Stone_Cold22's Breloom fainted.
(2-4, MajeSan leads)
---
Good Lord, I'd forgotten completely about Breloom! Thankfully, Mamoswine is still sleeping, and Porygon2 has just enough Bulk to survive that Superpower without Stealth Rock up. Sadly, the cyber duck is basically crippled beyond usefulness now, so it's just going to be fodder for whatever comes in. Thankfully, I still have Heatran, so even if he does have one of the few Pokemon who completely counters Bronzong I'm going to be able to defeat his last two Pokemon anyways, most likely.

Stone_Cold22 switched in Zapdos (lvl 100 Zapdos).
Zapdos is exerting its pressure!
Zapdos used Thunderbolt.

ZOMG CRITHAX!!!!11 Lol, just kidding. Zapdos is a bad sign, though. I need to get some damage on it before I send in Bronzong, to buy time. I assume it's running the same set that mine was (Tbolt/Heat Wave/HP Grass/Roost). Since Breloom is gone, Mamoswine can safely wake up...hopefully. Fortunately, it has a Sash to give it an extra chance.

Uh, nope, still knocked out. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Strange that he didn't use Heat Wave, though...must not like the miss chance. Let's see if ZongBron has what it takes. Wait, waait a minute...maybe I can use Heatran to my advantage...

PLDH-MajeSan switched in ZongBron (lvl 100 Bronzong).
PLDH-MajeSan switched in TranHea (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Zapdos used Thunderbolt.
TranHea lost 42% of its health.
---
Okay, he doesn't have Heat Wave. This is getting sticky. I can't OHKO Zapdos, and he has a move that I'm not sure what it is back there. I'm running a MixTran with Earthquake and Iron Head, plus Sub, so I only have one move to hit him. If he's got Sub, I'm probably screwed, because he can just sub up and stall me out while I try to Fire Blast him. I have to stay in and try, though.

TranHea used Fire Blast.
Zapdos lost 51% of its health.
Zapdos used Thunder Wave.
TranHea is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

Okay, Thunder Wave. Phew. Tran is basically hosed, now, though, so I'll just keep plugging away and buy Bronzong a chance to get a free Calm Mind while it roosts.

Latias isn't quite as bad as Tyranitar or Heatran, but it's up there as pretty bad for my main sweeper. Psychic and HP [Fire] both have not very effective coverage, so I just need to get up my Calm Minds to +6 and slowly knock it out.

Wow. That's why I prefer Bronzong as a sweeper, it's just so dam bulky that it can survive things like that without even flinching. Well, I mean, it's asleep, so of course it isn't going to flinch, but, you know. Anyways, time to wake up and WIN!

So, there you have it. Even though I got hit with a dreaded crit at the end, my wonderful CM Bronzong still managed to survive and come back to beat Latias at its own game! GG Stone_Cold22.

Stone_Cold22's team:

I OWNZ j00!!!!

Props:
  • Bronzong, for being so damn tough
  • Breloom, for not being the stupid-ass Poison Heal version
  • Stone_Cold22, for being a talented and skilled player
  • Gengar, for blowing up and taking one for the team

Slops:
  • None, really. This was a pretty good battle overall for both sides.

Rate, Hate, whatever. If it's no good, go ahead and say so.

The early game was really sloppy on your part, but it became almost decent the longer the game went on. Nice Bronzong.

Sorry, but I didn't feel that this was too good. The battle was really plain without much to make it exciting to read. It was mostly Kill, then let my Pokemon die so I can revenge kill him again.

Better luck next time.

Not bad, not bad.

Nitpick: You said +2 Swords Dance in the intro.

I presonally hate sluggish endings, but meh, it was alright. Good Job.

Nice catch thar, Blue. Thanks for the comments so far. In retrospects, keeping Zapdos in against Metagross early game was basically an awful decision, since switching in Tran would have been a better outcome basically 100% of the time. However, I was thinking in terms of this being a check for Mamoswine, and so I automatically assumed BP/SR/Explosion/etc. I was hoping to KO it outright, but I guess it was too bulky.

You already knew your opponent's last pokemon was latias, why were you scared of something else?
just nitpicking

Very sloppy beginning, but a Bronzong sweep is fairly interesting I suppose.

I did not enjoy that beginning though. Rather poor play on both sides.

GG man. That is just an old team of mine I use for fun. Didn't think itd be warstory'd. I think I forgot lefties on my cune.

Anyway nice job, I had 3 matches going on at the same time so I played sloppy but the first 2 ended earlier so I started paying attention more around the end.

In case you didnt notice this topic is like a year old. As for the warstory itself, I stopped reading after I saw Sub MixTran.
