ORAS OU Testing, VGC & Beyond - Team of Olympians

The second team I'm showcasing here on RMT. I have been toying around with this team a lot less than the first one I posted here, I'd say about three months (at least three months, not exactly sure) of testing was used with this team. I got great feedback on the first team, so I'll be glad to have you folks give me an opinion on this team. Although this team was meant to be a different version of the original team, but, after changing somethings, I had to rework the entire thing. Enough preamble! Let's begin.

Lord Apollo (Charizard) (M) @ Charizardite Y

Ability: Solar Power

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Modest Nature

- Dragon Pulse

- Fire Blast

- Solarbeam

- Roost

Lord Apollo has the power of the sun to burn the enemies of the gods. First, this was entire reason why I felt I had to change my entire team. Instead of using Mega Zard X, I decided to use Y for my second team. Most of this set is self explanatory for anyone who has used, or seen a Mega Zard Y in action, so I won't elaborate too much here. (But. just in case you want that information, Dragon Pulse is for Dragon types, Fire Blast is for Stab, Solarbeam to take advantage of Drought, and rid myself of pesky Water types, and roost reliably recover health.)

Fallen Hades (Cofagrigus) (M) @ Lum Berry

Ability: Mummy

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD

Sassy Nature

- Will-O-Wisp

- Trick Room

- Energy Ball

- Hex

Hades has always feuded with his brothers and sisters, but, when they are threatened, the powers of the Underworld are good thing to have on your side. Next, the physical defender, Cofagrigus. He is here strictly for support, either working over an enemy with Will-o-Wisp, or setting up for later with Trick Room. The Sassy Nature is to combat his Special Attacking weakness, and I am of the thought that, since his Defense is very high, that I can leave it untouched and attempt to make him more balanced. He has problems, obviously, like not being able to recover health in a reliable way, but, that's where the next Olympian comes in for support as well.

Poseidon X (Vaporeon) (M) @ Leftovers

Ability: Water Absorb

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD

Sassy Nature

- Wish

- Protect

- Scald

- Shadow Ball

The commander of the stormy seas gives judgement to the enemies of the gods for tactical advantage. Next, the special defender, Poseidon. Vaporeon in the doubles setting, for me, has been nothing but elegant and invaluable with Water Absorb. I did consider Jellicent for it's ability as well, but, I needed a Wish Maker. The rest of the set, I feel is again, self explanatory. (Then again, you might want me to elaborate. Wish and Protect are obvious for competitive play and Doubles, Scald is for stab and the chance of a burn, and Shadow Ball is for Ghost types, as they are widely used to counter Rapid Spinners, and I can take advantage of that.) Moving on.

Hephaetus X (Lucario) (M) @ Life Orb

Ability: Inner Focus

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Drain Punch

- Poison Jab

- Bullet Punch

- Stone Edge

Hephaetus, being able to create swords and armor, as well as fire, is able to either supply the rest of his brethren with what they need, or take care of the problem with his weapons. I'm running Lucario, you see. I understand he's frail, but, with the support I have here, I can make sure he can pull through for me. Most of the time, anyway. Drain Punch to regain health, Poison Jab to kill fairies, Stone Edge for Flying types, all standard.

Wise Athena (Mandibuzz) @ Rocky Helmet

Ability: Overcoat

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def

- Defog

- Foul Play

- Tailwind

- U-turn

Athena uses her knowledge of strategic battles to turn the tide when brute force does not work for the current battle. Again, for simple support, but, I did need a Pokemon specifically for getting rid of hazards. I cannot have my Charizard falling for rocks without giving it a good old college trying, eh? Mandibuzz fills this slot easily. Being able to take hits, Overcoat to block Sandstorms, Foul Play for physical attackers, Tailwind for additional speed, and U-turn to escape when needed, simply great for what I need. You might question the Rocky Helmet, but, most of my opponents don't see it coming, and in some cases, forces a switch, allowing me to Defog, if necessary.

Hercules IV (Mamoswine) (M) @ Muscle Band

Ability: Oblivious

EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD

Bold Nature

- Earthquake

- Ice Shard

- Knock Off

- Stealth Rock

Hercules, the most famous Demigod of Olympus. Son of Zeus, this Champion of the Goddess Hera's Challenges. When this warrior of the Gods rides in, the Olympians want swift death. Finally, we come to my Mamoswine. I needed a ground type, and I wanted Ice type coverage, so here he is. Through Hades, Trick Room is set, just so Hercules here can take advantage of that. Stealth Rocks, Knock Off for troublesome Pokemon, and Earthquake, of course. His Nature is Bold to help with defensive purposes, though I'm not entirely sure how much that helps in the long run.

Now, I know you can see a problem here with my team. Some of them don't have items, you see, or have items that might not match properly. My movesets, IVs, EVs, Abilities, etc. are fine. I have thought about these many times over, to a certain extent. But, since some of these Pokemon I happen to be unfamiliar with, I'm not sure on what exactly to give them. I just cannot seem to figure out what exactly to give my Pokemon here. But, I'll go with my best bet for each of them. Just keep in mind these are still rather murky choices for items.
As far as substitutions go, I have considered to switch my Lucario for something with more staying power, and by this I mean Metagross. Not for Mega evolution, mind you. I have heard rumors from my friends and rivals of people running a physically defensive Metagross with a Weakness Policy and Rock Polish to help with it's low speed, but, I'm not too sure on how viable that actually is, so if someone could compare that hypothetical Metagross with my current Lucario, to do the math I cannot.
Other than that, I look forward to what you folks' opinion of my team is. Don't judge too harshly.

As you said, most of your movesets need a bit of fixing, and are are pretty weak to a bunch of things. First of all, run Focus Blast > Dragon Pulse on YZard. This enables you not to be walled by Heatran and Tyranitar. Although Dragon Pulse does hit Latios and Latias, they already take a lot of damage from Fire blast, especially with a Modest Nature, and aren't OHKOed by Dragon Pulse anyway.

Cofagrigus set is pretty wierd, Energy Ball does nothing for it, and Trick room only benefits it so it doesn't seem worth it. I would run Pain Split and Toxic Spikes over these two moves. Pain Split enables Cofgarigus to get some recovery back on its own, and while Toxic Spikes may seem counterproductive on a team with a Defogger on it, it can be pretty a pretty useful move for wearing down certain Pokemon. Also, run Leftovers over Lum Berry, Leftovers helps a lot more in the long run thanks to the passive recovery it provides.

Lucario's set really needs to be fixed too. Justified is a much better ability than Inner Focus since it enables Lucario to get an attack boost from switching into Dark-type moves. Close Combat is better than Drain Punch since Lucario is far too frail to make use of Drain Punch and needs all the power it can get. You mention Poison Jab to hit fairies, which is a bit wierd since Luacrio has Iron Tail which does way more damage to Faries, and is far more powerful in general (almost twice as powerful), so the low accuracy is defenitely worth it. Finally, Lucario doesn't need Stone Edge and much prefers Swords Dance in order to wallbreak more easily and sweep lategame. Ice Punch is also an option for the likes of Landorus-T and Garchomp though.

As a Wishpasser, Vaporeon is completely outclassed by Alomomola, who passes much bigger wishes, has more bulk on both sides of the spectrum and has an excellent ability in Regenerator, which gives it 1/3 of its health back every time it passes a wish. However, I don't think you really need a wishpasser on this team, I'd reccommend Suicune more since it can serve as a good win condition with Calm Mind. You may even want to try out Slowbro which serves as a counter to Keldeo (which otherwise decimates your team), at the detriment of handling Weavile, a more minor threat to your team, less well.

If you don't want to run Slowbro, you can easily use Latias over Mandibuzz instead, since not only is it a Keldeo counter, it's also a better Defogger and acts as a secondary Electric resistance, and it can also run Tailwind if you really want it to. You should probably run Roost though, since you need a reliable anwser to Keldeo as opposed to one that only switches in once. Speaking of which, if you keep Mandibuzz, make sure to run Roost on it so that it can reliably switch into offensive Pokemon, you really need a reliable hazard remover on this team

Mamoswine's typing is too bad to really make use of a bulky set. It's a much better idea to run Max Attack and Max Speed with a Jolly nature and a Focus Sash on Mamoswine, that way it can guarantee the ability to set up Stealth Rocks. Furthermore, Knock Off isn't really useful on Mamoswine, it much prefers to have a powerful Ice STAB like Icicle Crash, or even Icicle Spear which, while less reliable, enables it to break Focus Sashes.

However, I feel like it's a much better idea to run Hippowdon over Mamoswine. Hippowdon is not only a much more reliable Stealth Rock setter, but it's also a better answer to physical attackers like Talonflame and Lopunny, and especially Electric types like Thundurus which threaten your team, and its Sand Stream ability benefits YZard by resetting Sun turns, so that it doesn't get sent in just as Sun is about to wear out as often. I'm more-or-less assuming you're using it for the rest of my rate since it severely decreases the size of your threatlist and makes things a lot easier for me.

Given that your team's has no resistance to Psychic or Flying, it is weak to certain Pokemon like Latios, Tornadus-T, Alakazam and Gardevoir. There are a few ways to fix this. The safest way is by running Jirachi over Cofagrigus, acting as a much better special wall and answer to Psychic, Flying and Fairy-types. It can also serve as a Wishpasser if you really want it to. However, another option is Klefki, while it is not as reliable as Jirachi, it offers much better utility by giving you speed control with Priority Thunder Wave (helps particularly against Serperior, a big threat to your team), benefits from a very nice fairy-typing giving it a very useful Dark resistance, and it also gets access to Spikes which are very useful at wearing the opposing team down. Both of these options make you admittedly bit weaker to Azumarill, but both of them can switch into it reliatively easily especially when the Sun is up.

If you feel like running a Spinner over a Defogger in order to preserve your Spikes, you can try running Excadrill somewhere on your team, likely over Lucario since anything else would probably ruin your defensive synergy. Thanks to Sand support from Hippowdon, Excadrill functions as a powerfull sweeper, spinner, and check to Psychic- Flying and Fairy-types. Another option is Starmie, which also counters Keldeo, and can be used over Vaporeon, however you probably don't want to stack too many dark weaknesses, and you lose a good physical wall which means you put a ton of pressure on Hippowdon

This probably seems like a lot of changes, but it's more that you have a bunch of options to improve your team, don't apply every single one of these obviously, but feel free to try them out
