The Hindenburg (Peak #2, 1487)

The Hindenburg

(Peak #2, 1487)

This is a team. I made it. It’s pretty good.

That being said, there is no long, drawn out team building process. I make a shit load of teams, rarely edit them and use the ones that are good. This is just five random Pokemon and Stellar’s Drifblim that turned out to have great and destructive synergy. Ask Upstart how many teams I’ve made, he’ll vouch for me. After so many made, I was bound to get lucky enough to make a good one. Pretty much, the team uses Hazards and two mean ass sweepers. Also, I’m posting this because I don’t really play tournaments, so it doesn’t matter if people know my team. I named it "The Hindenburg" because Drifblim is so goddamn clutch, it lights shit up and goes down in flames. Also, so I seem cultured, because only smart people know about the Hindenburg </sarcasm>. This team fits together like a puzzle; the team can not be a whole without each one of its parts. There really is no "better" replacement for any one member on the team (that I can see) because each has a specific purpose.

Roserade (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Spikes
- Rest

This is Roserade, she’s a passive little bitch. By that, I mean that she just likes to lay hazards, she doesn’t like confrontation. This is pretty standard, except that the standard defensive set sucks. She very rarely takes physical hits, so I’d rather just max out Sp.D so she can take water attacks and shit better. Giga Drain and Sludge Bomb are good for hitting stuff, Spikes because she likes hazards and Rest to be cool. I’ve considered Deoxys here, but I don’t really like it in general. The ability to set Spikes is so crucial to this team. It allows for wearing on the opposing team with out really doing anything. Having a spin blocker that pretty much assures that even Foresight Top can't spin is pretty bad ass as well. I go kind of crazy with the Spikes, especially when I see Hitmontop or no spinner at all. She also beats Blastoise, which will rarely use Rapid Spin turn one, due to my ghost type. For clarification; Blastoise switches in on Hitmontop, the opponent expects Drifblim, but I go to Roserade. This stops my hazards from being spun, causes more damage to Blastoise and can potentially lead to more hazards, assuming I have less than three layers of Spikes. Roserade is really good at laying spikes and often gets at least two layers. She's amazing, and I'd rather use her than any other spiker.

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock

This is Swampert, he’s fat. Like bulky. This mother fucker is so clutch all the time. It’s not 2HKO’d by CB Gon which has saved my ass a couple of times. He also hits pretty hard, even without investment. I’m not sure what the standard set uses, but I know some people use max attack, which is stupid, because then it can’t take hits and stuff. Like, it’s 2HKO’d by CB Gon. I might put Ice Beam on here over Ice Punch because Gligar is a pain in my ass. Waterfall and Earthquake are my STAB attacks and Stealth Rock is the best move in the game. That’s pretty much it. Without Swampert, my team would get run through by many physical attackers, like Darm, Stoutland, etc. He pairs really well with Hitmontop, ensure that NO physical threat can cause too much damage at any given time. I actually have changed Ice Punch for Ice Beam, which lets me do reasonable damage to Gligar, who otherwise can cause my team shit loads of problems. Often times, Swampert stands for just long enough, for enough residual damage to be built up until Raikou or Sharpedo, or even sometimes Drifblim to sweep.

Hitmontop (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Rapid Spin

Best Hitmontop set there is. Fuck Foresight, I kill Mag's and Chand's like nothing. Yeah, I kind of forgot 4 EV's, but they don't really matter. Close Combat is good STAB coming off of 317 attack. Top retains good bulk through Intimidate and its good base Special Defense. Stone Edge is good good for hitting Ghosts on the way in, and Sucker Punch helps me keep Choiced Chandlures in check. Rapid Spin is good for, you know, spinning. Top is pretty cool, I'm done with Blastoise. That was taken from my last RMT (which nobody commented on). It’s all true though, I don’t like the other more standard Top sets, probably because of my playstyle. Nobody expects offensive, and like Drifblim, he gets his share of surprise kills. Hitmontop is the real reason ChestoRest Kingdra doesn't run through my team. Rapid Spin is important for my team, but not as much as others. Considering Drifblim is pretty much a suicide bomber, I have something to absorb Toxic Spikes and nothing else weak to Rocks, if I don't get a Spin off, things don't turn off too poorly. Nevertheless, Hitmontop is crucial (I don't have a better word) and I can't think of anything that would fit better.

Drifblim (M) @ Flying Gem
Trait: Unburden
EVs: 200 Atk / 104 Def / 204 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Acrobatics
- Destiny Bond
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute

This is Stellar’s Drifblim set, which is pretty amazing. It commonly gets two kills and a burn when I play him right and at the very worst, he’ll at least get a kill and stop the opponent from spinning. Just that is usually good enough to secure a win though. The best part about this set is that nobody sees it coming and thus nobody knows what to do when they see it. Who the fuck (especially near the top of the ladder) uses Drifblim? Other than that, Acrobatics can be really strong and makes Blim great against Hitmontop who think they can Foresight and spin on my. D-Bond is amazing and can be good to stop a threat or a Foresight-less Blastoise from spinning. Wisp is great and Sub is good for scouting. From what I understand, 104 Def allows Zong Gyro Balls to not break subs when he is burned, 204 Spe outruns Scarfed 100’s after Unburden and the rest is in attack.

Raikou @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 212 SAtk / 40 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Substitute
- Calm Mind

So many teams are Raikou weak. Like, SO MANY. I mean SO DAMN MANY. It’s pretty cool though, I don’t mind it. There have literally been 6-0’s with just Raikou. Not saying that it’s necessarily common, but they have happened. The EV’s are somewhat abstract and only reflect my own randomness. I’m open to using the Smogon EV’s, but I’ve just never gotten around to changing them. So, standard attacks are standard. Thunderbolt is STAB and hurts a lot of stuff. HP Ice is great for all of the CB Flygons running around (I know I keep mentioning him, shut up.) It also provides good coverage in general. Sub and CM are just good for setting up. I love this goddamn Thunda-Thunda-Thunda-Thunda Cat.

Sharpedo (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Protect

I don’t see how this monster is RU, it wrecks so much ass. 372 Attack just hurts shit so bad, especially since it can increase it’s Speed without doing anything. There really isn’t much to say, other then that he is a monster. It sucks that it’s been popping up more and more now, because he can be so hard to deal with. Waterfall and Crunch are my STAB moves, I never understood people that go full Special on this thing. I have in fact changed Ice Fang for Earthquake. Waterfall does 70~83% to Flygon, which will be enough. Earthquake does a lot to Empoleon, which CAN at times be a pain (sometimes I use it to set up Spikes, but I digress). The most important function of Sharpedo is 2HKO'ing Deoxys, ensuring that it never gets more than one layer of spikes on me.

So, that’s the team. I hope you enjoyed it. Fuck you if you didn’t. Oh yeah, Omfuga and Upstart are cool (in alphabetical order).

Also, here's an importable. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Sharpedo is UU on PO server for a reason. can't say anything about the team. Congratulations on you succes!

Yes, Sharpedo is a monster. Thank you. Also, my descriptions sucked, so I added stuff to make them suck less.

destinyunknown

Banned deucer.
I battled this team yesterday and it's pretty good, and props for using some original sets (I was sure what was your hitmontop set so that gave me a bit of advantage on predicts but w/e)
The only thing I would suggest is using rhyperior over swampert (Rhyperior with Ice Punch) mainly because swampert is usually not bulky enough to take on things like Stoutland or Darmanitan more than once per match, and Rhyperior can handle those threats (even CB Flygon) even better while not being set up bait for Roserade.

The only thing about Rhyperior is that it makes me a bit more weak to Kingdra. Hitmontop can't assuredly take on Kingdra every single time, which is where Swampert comes in. It can take Waterfall or Outrage from a +2 Kingdra and pick up where Hitmontop left off. Swampert is also better at taking on... Rhyperior, and does a lot to Gligar with Ice Beam, though I'm not sure how much Ice Punch from Rhy will hurt it. Further, Stoutland and Darm are rarely an issue because of Drifblim switching into Frustrations, Pert and to a lesser extent Hitmontop combined with hazards wearing on Darm. Also, Weavile who can be a problem (and again, I can't rely in Top to check everything). That being said, I am always open to suggestions and will gladly give it a try if you provide a set. Thank you for the rate.

Dude I just have to say what a great team this is, with some creative sets no less. I can't really think of any suggestions that would benefit this team without destroying the great synergy. Great Job!

PS Raikou is still amazing and I don't know why people seem to have stopped using him

Thank you Upstart, for that completely unforced rate. What EV's do you suggest for Raikou?

Also, I've added some logs of this team in action if anyone is interested. Thank you everyone for the rate.

I have to say I love this team. It's really solid against most of the big threats and uses some surprising sets that work really well.

One thing that worries me is your lack of a phazer. How do you deal with stuff like Ninjask, QuiverPass Venomoth and Baton Pass in general? You could try using Roar instead of Earthquake on Swampert. You lose coverage against Empoleon but I don't think they particularly bother your team and having the ability to phaze is always useful.

I've always found Raikou more comfortable as a hit and run Pokemon with CM up its sleeve when it needs it rather than an out and out SubCM sweeper because not many people are going to let you set up unbreakable Subs and most special Pokemon can't touch Raikou after a Calm Mind anyway even without a Sub. I'd suggest switching Sub for Extrasensory and switching Leftovers for Life Orb to allow it to hit harder and have more coverage to predict switch-ins with. Raikou loses a lot of surviability but I think the extra threat it carries would be worth it.

edit: Also I think Sharpedo's EVs could probably be more efficient. 148 Spe EVs allow you to outspeed Jolteon at +1 so the rest can be dumped in defences to boost what little bulk it has. It leaves 52 EVs for Defence and 56 for SDef.

Great team and congrats on the ladder peak!

btw I have no idea what is going on with your Raikou EVs

Jolteon is Ou now bro and congrats on the peak godsend

^ If you're looking for a real SubCM spread, use the Gen 4 OU set, the best one there is

The extra bulk is perfect, allowing it to keep subs on Jolly Scarf Flygon's U-turn and tank powerful physical attacks (sometimes even non-Rhyperior EQs). With Spikes up and setting up on Zapdos/Roserade, it's pretty easy to put it in a position to sweep. You just gotta know when to CM and when to sub so that you're not taking any unnecessary risks or wasting HP.

BW UU SubCM set has the same spread as DPP OU one. Just a nitpick though.

Yeah I meant base 130s, Jolteon (Crobat/Aerodactyl) and under was always my benchmark for being fast.

Another suggestion for the team: I'm not really sure Drifblim needs those Def EVs. Drifblim isn't doing much to Bronzong even if it can hide behind a Sub, and Bronzong always has HP Ice to fall back on. You're much better switching out after Wisping it which you probably are doing anyway. I think Drifblim would appreciate those EVs to max out Spe and Atk so it outspeeds and ties with the things it should be tying with. Unless those EVs also prevent a KO from Stone Edge or something then I'd consider reinvesting them.

No luck involved: I will give a Life Orb Raikou a shot, though I do like having a bulky sweeper and a frailer sweeper, I am open to suggestions. One thing though, max speed on Sharpedo is very important. It allows me to tie with other Sharpedos (which has won me a couple of games) and it lets me outrun max speed base 80's like Specs/LO Chand and.... well mostly that. That has been VERY important because this team can be very weak to it. Thank you for the detailed rate. Also, I have no idea what Drifblim's EV's are for. Max speed will let me tie with Stoutland after Unburden and max Attack seems... usefull. I'll give it a shot.

SJCrew, thank you for the Raikou spread, I had no idea what I was doing. Those crappy EV's that I used are random, which is really a testament to how powerful Kou really is.

I've been trying out this team today, and I can honestly say this is one of the best UU teams I've ever seen. It checks a lot of threats very well and I automatically love any team that uses Drifblim, one of my favorite pokemon ever. However, I have to agree with No Luck Involved. The one thing I found to be a slight problem with this team is the lack of a phazer. I'd suggest putting Roar on Swampert as my only nitpick.
Great team =D

Used this team, but apparently Rosarade is banned on PO UU, got in to a few OU matches, and managed to win anyways, thats when you know a team is really good :)

Thanks for the compliments even though I've been inactive for a while. It's good to see that my team is still getting love lol

Nice team very fun to play. Just a little nitpick though, in the importable version of the team, Flight Gem should be corrected to Flying Gem.

Congrats on your success!

Good team i tested this team just to rate it and the only suggestion i have is to try life orb raikou instead of sub cm raikou and you can try zapdos cause i think your team needs a solid fighting resistance. I think the offensive set is the zapdos set you should try because your team is offensive oriented and you want to hit as hard as possible. But otherwise great team and congrats on your success!
