- Hurricane is a very powerful STAB move, but it has horrible accuracy outside of the rain, which is not advised to use, as this set has Heat Wave. Air Slash has more reliable accuracy and a nifty 30% flinch chance, but is a lot weaker.
- Heat Wave hits the bulky Steel-types that resist Tornadus' STAB moves.
- Grass Knot hits bulky Water-type Pokemon such as Quagsire and Swampert.
- Tailwind is a nice move to have as it lets Tornadus double its team's Speed when in a pinch, and has increased priority thanks to Prankster.

- A Timid nature and maximum Speed investment makes Tornadus as fast as possible.
- 4 Defense EVs make Tornadus slightly more physically bulky, letting it take priority hits outside of Vacuum Wave easier.
- 0 Attack IVs minimize the amount of damage taken from Foul Play and self-inflicted confusion.
- A Life Orb increases Tornadus' damage output by 30%, making it a lot more powerful.

- Bulk Up boosts Tornadus' Attack and Defense stats, enabling it to potentially sweep.
- Acrobatics is a very powerful STAB move that has 110 base power after Tornadus' Sitrus Berry has been consumed.
- Superpower hits the Rock- and Steel-types that resist Acrobatics, but it has an Attack and Defense drop, nullifying Bulk Up's boosts. Knock Off is another option in this slot, as it allows Tornadus to remove items from opposing Pokemon and having good utility.

- 4 HP EVs lets Tornadus activate its Sitrus Berry after using Substitute two times.
- 252 Attack EVs maximize Tornadus' damage output.
- A Jolly nature and maximum Speed investment makes Tornadus as fast as possible.
- Prankster lets Tornadus have priority Bulk Ups and the ability to create Substitutes before faster Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave users. Defiant can be used instead in order to benefit from Intimidate, but is generally inferior because Tornadus can just use Bulk Up to boost its Attack to neutral again, and it enjoys having priority Substitutes.
- A Sitrus Berry is used to regain 25% of its health, and it works well alongside Substitute and Acrobatics.
