dragon dance is the key to the whole set as it allows tropius to have a high base speed and attack which allows him to sweep. Leaf blade is a good stab physical move which compliments tropius' ability to sweep. Rest allows tropius to sustain while attempting to set up multiple dragon dances against pokemons who are incapable of dealing more than 50 percent of tropius' hp per turn. Earthquake is very handy against steel fire and poison types which gives tropius much better coverage. Outrage is for the potential dragon/flying types that tropius wouldnt be able to hit.

harvest gives tropius a very good niche in that combined with the lum berry tropius cannot be toxic stalled and can use rest infinitely. running a jolly nature can be good in order to outspeed choice scarfed pokemons and pokemons with general high base speed like ninjask and electrode after a dragon dance, an adamant nature should be used in order to insure OHKOS against bulky pokemon. Running full offensive EVs is a good way to insure the setup sweep is possible.

Tropius should be used when put in against a pokemon who doesnt deal too much damage in order to begin setting up his dragon dances to sweep.

Tropius tends to work with good hard hitting pokemons that can generally force bulky pokemons to come in such as flareon or stoutland
Pokemon that can use stealth rocks like torkoal and bastiodon are also very good pared with tropius in order to break sturdy and focus sashes of pokemons like golem, bastiodon, and mr mime.
tropius also works well with pokemon like torkoal or lumineon that can use defog and rapid spin because of the high amount of damage stealth rocks does to tropius on switch in.
Due to tropius' typing he tends to work well with bulky fire types and water types like torkoal and prinplup who can easily tank fire and ice type moves.

One of the advantages tropius has is the ability to setup sweep due to his capability of learning dragon dance. of the disadvantages tropius has is not having a powerful stab physical flying type move other than fly which can be exploited through switching and protect.
