[TT2 Round 1] (SOS) Iron Caliber vs (DB) Jayelt413

che1YKb.gif

"All right, cameras rolling in 3...2...1."

"Hello everybody to the Second Team Tournament of ASB! I hope our battlers are ready with their best strategies and Pokemon. I hope you, the audience, are ready to see one of the inagural battles of one of the fiercest ASB Tournament to date! Everyone give a round of applause to our contestants!"

*thunderous applause*

"That's how I like it, now then, before we begin, let us go over the rules."

The Rules said:
  • All Abilities
  • All Items
  • 3 recovers/5 chills
  • 3 Substitutions
  • 1 Mega
  • Switch=KO
  • 3 Day DQ for battlers
  • 3 Day DQ for refs
  • Self-KO clause; in the event of a double KO to end the match, the Pokemon that KOed itself through whatever means (self-KOing move, energy exhaustion, etc) loses.
  • ASB Arena

"Without further ado, let's meet our contestants!"

"In the red corner, we have a relatively new comer to ASB. The man of iron, his Pokemon are no less powerful. Is this animated suit of armor out for justice, or revenge! Either way, he hopes to use his iron fist to take down his opponent and crash through to the next round. Ladies and Gentlemen, let us welcome Iron Caliber!"

Steel: Steel STAB; immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible to Poison-type attacks and Poison/Toxic Status.
Rock: Rock STAB; Adds an additional level of Priority on naturally occurring level-up, egg, tutor, or TM attacks that increase only defense, special defense, or prevent damage. Reduced damage from all special attacks by two (2) Base Attack Power during Sandstorm, immune to Sandstorm damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.

Abilities: Sturdy / Rock Head / Heavy Metal / Filter (Mega)
Sturdy (Passive): This Pokemon's body is solidly constructed, reducing the Base Attack Power from an opponents incoming attacks by one (1). The effect is amplified on OHKO Moves, which are reduced by ten (10) Base Attack Power.
Rock Head (Passive): This Pokemon's hard body prevents it from taking recoil damage from moves such as Double-Edge, Flare Blitz, and Head Smash. This does not prevent recoil damage from Struggle.
Heavy Metal (Passive): The Pokemon's body structure is immensely dense, doubling its actual weight.
Filter (Passive) (Mega): This Pokemon has a special energy barrier that reduces the Base Attack Power of any opponent's super effective attack by two (2).

Intimidate (Trigger): When this Pokemon initially goes out into the battlefield, it generates an intimidating roar or war cry that shakes all opponents on the battlefield, reducing their Attack stage by one (1). The attack drop is maintained at the end of each round. If an opponent switches in a new Pokemon, Intimidate can be activated again as a Command, and will affect all opponents.
Moxie (Passive): This Pokemon gets psyched after it earns a KO on an opposing Pokemon, increasing its attack by one (1) stage. This boost is maintained at the end of each round.
Anger Point (Passive): When struck with a critical hit, this Pokemon becomes enraged and its Attack rises to maximum (Stage 6). However, its Attack will drop up to two (2) stages at the end of each round instead of one (1) stage until it reaches stage zero (0).

Round 1: Unstoppable Force vs. Immovable Wall

Welcome to the first round of this exciting match folks! To start things off, the Iron Caliber has sent out Juggernaut the Drapion with a Razor Claw. That's a really good item for him, as it boosts one of his best STAB moves, while taking advantage of it's high crit chance and the ability Sniper. Jayelt in the meantime has sent out Jordan the Gallade, a fearsome foe under any circumstance. Especially now that Jay has Mega Evolved that Gallade, it will be sure to leave a mark.

Jordan wastes no time going all out, as it attacks with a fierce Earthquake! The whole arena is shaking from that one, and Juggernaut is definitely feeling the blow. In retaliation, Juggernaut lands a powerful Cross Poison, which thanks to hitting one of Jordan's soft spots does a fair bit of damage, almost as much as the super effective Earthquake! Turn's out Drapion can do quite a number to Gallade, who knew.

Jordan, seeing that Juggernaut might start gaining the upper hand, decides to go for a different approach. He charges at Juggernaut, bladed arms held high, then he punches in a flash, and ends up on the other side of Juggernaut, having stolen some of its health. Juggernaut is undeterred however, and roundhouse slashes Jordan with another Cross Poison attack, this one hitting Jordan badly in the legs.

Jordan decides to make some distance between himself and Juggernaut, and jumps backwards in preparation for his next attack. The Gallade then decides to repeat its first action, causing a huge tremor in the arena to damage Juggernaut. Thank goodness we installed those new Earthquake dampers last year huh? Juggernaut dashes at Jordan this time, slashing right across Jordan and leaving a bit of a gash in the latter's chest. What a powerful Pokemon!

This round ends with both sides having taken just a little over half their health in damage. Surprisingly to a veteran like myself, Drapion is actually keeping up with Jordan, even with the Drain Punch. I would have thought you would need SE STAB to deal with Gallade. Still, Juggernaut is a little bit behind, and both battlers are going to have to plan ahead if they want to gain the upper hand. Which trainer will take the lead? Find out next round!

Cross Poison ~ Cross Poison ~ Cross Poison

regarding the cross poison sub:
6:54:01 PM <dogfish44> we have rules which say "Using Growl when you're Taunted won't trigger a sub for Growl" iirc?
6:56:38 PM <dogfish44> Ugh, I might be mistaken, and mixing it up with ignoring illegal subs?
6:57:15 PM <dogfish44> My interpretation of the handbook as it stands is that it would activate?

"Ah don't worry about it, I'll ref when I feel like it. It's not like they're going to DQ me."

637.png

"Ref the Tournament match now or I will torch your freaking behind so hard you'll scream for days!"

"Okay..."

Welcome back folks! Last round we saw Iron Caliber and jayelt engaged in a fierce damage race. Will they continue?

Apparently not, as Jordan decides to send Tormenting images to Juggernaut to keep it from using that devastating series of Cross Poisons. Juggernaut...attempts to take another slash at Jordan, but seems to have stopped in his tracks. It seems to the Torment has seriously hampered his ability to use that move. As Juggernaut continues trying to use the move, Jordan smiles evilly, and uses another Draining Punch to----

637.png

"Woah woah woah hold the phone. Shouldn't Gallade be Tormenting three times as per jayelt's first sub?"

Ah, excellent question Nora. Let me go ahead and bring up one of the substitution rules up on screen, with emphasis added.

5. Substitutions based on knowing something can only trigger after that thing is known. (e.g if the opponent crits a2 then counter that action is legal if you were already going to move second a2, but illegal otherwise). (If you know something, your Pokemon knows it). Attack clauses activate based on what would currently be used according to the main order set.

As you can see, this means that the substitution only activates if the move would actually be used. Since Struggle is being used due to our other substitution rules, this means jayelt's sub no longer applies. Which is bad news for Juggernaut, as he takes the brunt of Jordan's assault, including a draining punch and an Earthquake, while doing only a little bit in return. Jayelt has really swung this matchup in his favor. Can Iron Caliber turn the tables? Find out next round!

Round 3: Shenanigans

Welcome back folks! Last round we saw Jayelt get ahead in the damage race. Will we see---

Oh...that was so quick I barely saw it. Unfortunately for Iron Caliber a poorly worded substitution meant that Juggernaut did not use Endure, due to seeing a Will-o-Wisp coming Action 2. Only we are not going to see that action, because before Juggernaut could even blink Jordan slices the air, creating a Vacuum Wave that knocks Juggernaut out. What a short round.

And with that, Jayelt has come out ahead at a 3-2 advantage. Jordan even has a little less than half of his health left, meaning he can still do some damage. However, I would not count Iron Caliber out yet, as he has quite the Pokemon waiting in the wings, one that can give even Gallade issues. What will happen next? Find out next time!

Action One:
Gallade used Vacuum Wave
Damage: [4+3]=7
[7 Damage Dra] [-3 Energy Gal]
Drapion fainted!

Round 4: Tricks Aplenty

Welcome back folks! Last round, Iron Caliber fell a little behind, losing 2-3 against Jayelt. However, it seems he has not lost his spirit to fight, as he sends out Hendrix the Krookodile. Krookodile is a fun Pokemon, it usually stands outclassed by Colossoil who boasts a wider movepool and higher hp. However, Krookodile is not nearly as weak to Low Kick and Grass Knot as Colossoil, and with an Intimidating glare has managed to make even Jordan shiver in his boots a little bit.

Hendrix is no fool though, even he knows that a direct confrontation would be disastrous, so he starts with...a protective barrier? It is a bit passive of a move, but it easily deflects Jordan's Draining Punch attack, as the Gallade's punch skids off the barrier and is forced to the ground.

As soon as the barrier drops though, Jordan attacks with powerful Brick Breaking punches, dealing just as much damage as the Drain Punch would have done. Jordan's speed is too much for Hendrix, as he decides to send a tremor through the ground to attack Jordan. Unlike the earlier earthquakes though, this Bulldoze attack kicks up a lot of rocks and ripples the ground, making it hard for Jordan to move so quickly.

Hendrix soon takes advantage of his increase in speed to Taunt Jordan into attacking. Whatever he said in Pokespeak, it must have been brutal, as Jordan lays a Drain Punch right into Hendrix's snout. Jordan is healed a little bit from that attack, but is still just as angry. What I do not understand is what Iron Caliber is planning here...actually, maybe I do.

Regardless of his strategy, Iron Caliber still needs to play a bit of catch up here. Yes the Gallade only hit Hendrix twice, but those punches were powerful enough to almost take out half of the Krookodile's health. What will happen next, and is Iron Caliber plotting what I think he's plotting? Find out next round!

Round 5: Clash of Blades

Welcome back folks! Last round we saw Hendrix make some headway in defeating Jordan, but Jordan is far from finished.

Hendrix, instead of stalling for time like I predicted, decides to just go ahead and end this. Yet another tremor shakes the arena, the Earthquake dealing decent damage to Jordan. It appears they're really shaking up this match!

*boos*

Uh, anyways. Jordan responds with a very critical move. He sweeps his leg under Hendrix's, causing Hendrix to trip and injure his leg. It looks like Hendrix is moving a bit slower now, which is bad news for Iron Caliber.

Jordan swiftly takes advantage of the switch in speed order to send in yet another Drain Punch into Hendrix's face! That had to hurt quite a bit. Angry, Hendrix spends his time Tormenting the enemy, not realizing it is not going to do much in this matchup.

Incensed at both the Taunt and the Torment, Jordan sweeps the leg of Hendrix yet again. With a loud thump on the ground, Hendrix is knocked out! However, not all is well with Jordan, as in his anger he seems to have exhausted himself, as he falls on the ground, fainted! A double knock out!

Despite Jordan falling, he has devastated Iron Caliber's team. Iron Caliber, and his team the SOS Brigade have an uphill battle going for them. However, one thing he has going for him is his Mega Evolution, Mega Aggron, which Kitsunoh in particular is going to have a hard time getting past. Can Iron Caliber even hope to pull out a victory here, or will Jayelt prove too difficult to handle? Find out next time!
