Checks & Counters
########

**Fairy-types**: azu, clef, and mega altaria take on all non CB sets well as they can either OHKO or severely damage ttar with their stabs. Azu also has priority aqua jet.

**Steel-types**: ferro, scizor, skarmory, and excadrill take little from TTars STABs and have ways to either kill it, or set up hazards on it

**Fighting-types**: keldeo, conkeldurr, mega gallade, terrakion, chesnaught, mega lopunny, and breloom resist both of TTars STABs (bar gallade) and easily OHKO TTar with their STABs.

**Physically defensive Pokemon**: Skarmory, chesnaught, hippowdon, ferrothorn, gliscor, lando t, rotom-w, mega sab, clefable, and mega venusaur have no problem walling TTar becasue they take little from its STAbs and can recover off the damage. however, lando t and gliscor must watch out for ice punch, and CB can beat clef and ferrothorn with stone edge and fire punch, respectively

imo mention its overall good bulk, with spdef being boosted in sand. And scarf and band should've similar sets i.e. a fire punch slash on scarf.
what's tyraniboah?

Small thing, I thought that Brazilian ttar was just referring to thunder wave; not special. Also it was noted in the previous thread that special ttar is kinda bad and it doesn't really beat much that the other sets can't.

Brazilian TTar is t wave + special moves + SR. Only have it mentioned because Ibe seen it used a few times. Not opposed to removing it if QC says to. OO rn has a bunch of random sets I've used / seen used to decent success so they may seem a bit unorthodox / gimmicky. Since this is still in the wip stage, OO is the least of my worries.

SparksBlade scarf doesn't have the moveslot for fire punch on scarf. It's not meant to take on Ferrothorn like the band set can. It simply doesn't have the power to win reliably.

Tyraniboah is sub punch + 2 attacks, an old relic from gen 4.

Ice Beam > Ice Punch on the Scarf set since it's a guaranteed OHKO on Scarf Lando-T after SR if Hasty/Naive and can OHKO the defensive set after SR.

0 SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 300-356 (94 - 111.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
0- SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 272-320 (85.2 - 100.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
-1 252 Atk Tyranitar Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 248-292 (77.7 - 91.5%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

0 SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 8 SpD Landorus-T: 296-352 (77.4 - 92.1%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
0- SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 8 SpD Landorus-T: 268-316 (70.1 - 82.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
-1 252 Atk Tyranitar Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Landorus-T: 176-208 (46 - 54.4%) -- 95.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

nitpicking a bit, but tyraniboah was a set from the adv era. it was designed to break the seemingly impenetrable skarmbliss core, which most stall teams back in its creation were based around.

also, what does the 88 speed evs on cbtar outspeed? i know that these allow ttar to hit 180 speed (assuming an adamant nature), but iirc, there are no notable targets that hit 179 speed that tyranitar cleanly beats. if your intent with the speed evs was to beat 0 spe skarmory, you could just move 8 speed evs to hp and still beat the same targets. some clarification here would be nice.

ice punch is better due to sheer damage output. it's a better lock because it's stronger on neutral hits. furthermore, it does far more damage to spdef gliscor (43.8% chance to ohko after rocks vs 64.7 - 77.2%), thund-i (74.9 - 88.2% vs 50.1 - 59.5%), and latis (the difference is 38.1 - 45.4% vs 67.5 - 79.5% for latios and 31.3 - 36.9% vs 57.6 - 68.3% for latias). it also forces tyranitar to run a -def or -sdef nature, which it definitely does not want to do considering that it wants to take zard x's +1 dclaw and a lati draco.

Crunch is great neutral STAB without a chance of missing, I think it should be the first slot. It also wrecks latios and gengar if they decide to stay in, without the chance of a stone miss. Stone edge should be slashed with the ice move, which should be ice beam with a hasty nature. TTar without a rock move is a terrible zard-x check (not that its rly a good one in the first place, loses if it has eq or tar has taken any prior dmg), and ice punch only hits spdef gliscor harder out its intended targets (chomper, landorus, weakened hippo). 52 spatk should get a mention in the comments if ibeam is the only slash, as it grabs the ko on 0/4 garchomp all the time after sr. Jolly with stone edge should stay the primary slash though, with ice beam getting a mention if you're especially weak to either landorus / garchomp. ice punch should be removed

edit: ice punch should probably be the last slot on DD mega tar with lando-t #1 in usage, although i haven't used DDtar in ORAS

not rly sure about this one tbh, because stone edge is TTars most powerful move nad its what allows it to actually beat things like wisp talon, mega pinsir, healthier thundies, etc. i do agree that crunch is a good move for TTar, but pursuit and Stone edge are more important imo (the former so it can actually trap things). however, crunch can be foregone if Dark STAB isnt 100% necessary outside of trapping things, so thats why i slashed ice punch with it.

i also dont like ice beam because you have to run hasty, which leaves you way more vulnerable to attacks TTar would otherwise live, plus the damage output isnt /that/ huge of a deal. you still 2HKO chomp & lando t, do more to thundy, and kill Spdef gliscor. ice beam is moves at best imo

I'd like to see Earthquake in OO for choice sets primarily at the very least as an asset to net hits on Bisharp, Keldeo, Heatran etc. The attack and defense drops on Superpower kind of suck in a lot of situations such as the band set and gives Ttar a bit leniency on Keldeo switch ins and teams that lose their primary ground resists and immunities.

A few things, I'd slash EQ with Superpower on the Scarf set instead of leaving it in OO, for various reasons, like Diancie, Heatran, Toxicroak, and also the lack of drops (it's exploitable, but Scarf Ttar is exploitable in general). I'd also make a mention of Chople on the support set, helping w/ Gengar, Alakazam, n' such, as well as mentioning Rock Slide as a more reliable option over Stone Edge (I don't think it needs a slash though, just a mention). I'd also either slash or mention Roar for the Support set, as the surprise value allows you to phaze various stuff somewhat easily such as Hawlucha, Scizor, Suicune, etc (ESPECIALLY BD CHES!!1), as well as racking up hazard damage on stuff like Talonflame if Tyranitar's burned and it's grabbed too many boosts. Finally I'd slash EQ on the DD MegaTtar set, because it allows for staying power while retaining most coverage (especially if you use it alongside Fire Punch), and also slash Ice Punch w/ Crunch.

Otherwise, looks good, 2/3

Should probably mention that Mandibuzz's standard set runs 16 Speed EVs. If you want to outrun it with the Banded set, you'd need 172 Speed EVs.

We cant speed creep specific EV spreads, that turns into speed creep wars.
I guess it could be mentioned in set details but its not like Mandibuzz is doing that much to ttar anyways.

I understand there should be no creep on unexplained stuff, but when Smogon's Mandibuzz analysis has 16 Speed I think a change in the spread would make sense (other QC dudes can give their opinion on this, tho). Also, Mandibuzz can potentially stall Tyranitar's Stone Edges out with Roost, so there's definitely an application in running some more speed.

Fair enough, thats reasonable I guess. Akin to how we kept the mention of outspeeding 44 spe rotom-w in the excadrill analysis but not on the main EV spread, that slightly faster spread can go in set details.

I would emphasize Keldeo more as a teammate for Band Tar. Band Tar is capable of Pursuit-trapping four of Keldeo's most critical checks, such as Slowbro, Lati@s after a Draco Meteor, offensive Talonflame, while being able to break down Rotom-W and Clefable as well. In return, Keldeo can handle Bisharp, which easily threatens Tyranitar with a STAB Iron Head, along with being able to threaten bulky Ground-types like Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Landorus-T.
