The voting result for this week is

Checks: Scarf Tyraniter (GnralLao ) , Greninja (Empo )
Counters: Alolan Muk (Leooo_33 ) SPDEF gastrodon (TURBODERP )

Vote Tally

Our Victim for week 5 is something I hate with a deep passion. Thats right pecially defensive Celesteela. This thing has been nothing but a pain in my side since its introduction so I hope you all have good nominations.

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Heavy Slam
- Flamethrower

Celeesta has proven a strong addition to the OU metagame thanks to its fantastic Typing and decent allround stats that let it handle a myriad of threats from ranging From landorous, Greninja, Lele and Latios lacking electric coverage to old favourites Like clefable all in 1 neat slot. Leech seed and protect give it recovery while heavy slam is the main stab. Flamethrower lets it handle steels such as ferrthorn, scizor and skarmory who would otherwise exploit it.

Good luck this week everyone. Random Passerby will edit the title as soon as possible

Volcarona @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 240 HP / 204 Def / 64 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Roost
- Fiery Dance
- Giga Drain

Counter. Steela can't do anything vs Volcarona and this just setups and kill it. You can slash Giga Drain with Bug Buzz but I prefer Drain to hit bulky waters and thats it. You can also roost in front of celesteela since he can't do much

Heatran @ Grassium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Solar Beam
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock

Heatran as a counter
Heatran can switch into anything Celesteela wants to throw at it only fearing Leech Seed and either get rocks up on a Protect or dent a switchin with Magma Storm. Magma Storm+Bloom Doom+Earth Power is super tough to switch into therefore Heatran apreciates the free switchin oportunities. Modest>Timid because it 2hkos the rare SpDef Sableye and offensive Scizor is non existent but either works.

Magnezone as a Check

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 128 HP / 252 SpA / 128 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

Magnezone's ability, Magnet Pull, is the reason why it's such a great Celesteela check, as it prevents the latter from switching out. With little prior damage, Magnezone's Specs-boosted Thunderbolt can OHKO Celesteela while its non-invested Flamethrower only 2HKOes Magnezone at best. Also, the Celesteela user has to play really carefully if he/she doesn't want to sack Celesteela, as once it's on the field, Magnezone can simply switch in on a predicted Protect/Heavy Slam before easily KOing Celesteela.
0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 128 HP / 0 Def Magnezone: 29-34 (9.2 - 10.8%) -- possibly the worst move ever
0 SpA Celesteela Flamethrower vs. 128 HP / 0 SpD Magnezone: 150-178 (47.9 - 56.8%) -- 87.5% chance to 2HKO (guaranteed 2HKO after SR)

252+ SpA Choice Specs Magnezone Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 344-408 (86.4 - 102.5%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Speed / 4 SpD
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Roost
- Solar Beam

You can ohko, recover with roost, and are very hard to switch into. You even beat it after rocks. Counter.

SubCoil Zygarde as a counter (again)

Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 240 HP / 212 SpD / 56 Spe
Careful Nature
- Substitute
- Coil
- Thousand Arrows
- Toxic

Defensive Celesteela is the perfect setup bait since it can't break Zygarde subs.

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (80 BP) vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Zygarde: 75-88 (17.9 - 21.1%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

Alolan Marowak as a counter

Marowak-Alola @ Thick Club
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD / 148 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shadow Bone
- Fire Punch
- Bonemerang
- Swords Dance

The best Celesteela can hope to do against Alowak is hit it with leech seed on the switch and protect stall for a turn or two to sap some health away, and Alowak OHKOs after rocks with fire punch, otherwise has a >50% roll for the OHKO or can just lose a little more hp and get the 2HKO.

The spread is from something, I probly made it up but 252+ attack is all that's needed, tho this does out-speed steela.

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak-Alola Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Celesteela: 378-446 (94.9 - 112%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Marowak-Alola: 60-71 (22.9 - 27.2%) -- 52.8% chance to 4HKO

Thundurus-T as a counter

Thundurus-Therian @ Electrium Z / Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Agility
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Nasty Plot / Focus Blast

Thundurus-T is a very underrated sweeper that can switch into anything Celesteela throws at it and use it as set-up fodder, clicking the appropriate set up move depending on the opponent's team. Leftovers sets have the added benefit of counteracting Leech Seed.

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus-Therian: 87-103 (29 - 34.4%) -- 5.7% chance to 3HKO
0 SpA Celesteela Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 82-97 (27.4 - 32.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Xurkitree @ Electrium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Tail Glow
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Xurkitree as a counter. it 2HKOs with Thunderbolt, OHKOs with Gigavolt Havoc or can set up Tail Glow on a predicted Protect. Celesteela can't do much back.

252 SpA Xurkitree Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 260-308 (65.3 - 77.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Xurkitree Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 506-596 (127.1 - 149.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Xurkitree: 86-102 (28 - 33.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 SpA Celesteela Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Xurkitree: 91-108 (29.6 - 35.1%) -- 17.4% chance to 3HKO

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Ice

Thundurus is a Counter to SpD Celesteela. It resists Heavy Slam, takes little from Flamethrower, and threatens back with a 2HKO from Thunderbolt or an OHKO at +2 since you can easily set up a Nasty Plot on Celesteela since it doesn't threaten you that much.

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 87-103 (29 - 34.4%) -- 5.7% chance to 3HKO
0 SpA Celesteela Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Thundurus: 82-97 (27.4 - 32.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 265-315 (66.5 - 79.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 530-627 (133.1 - 157.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Reserving Zard-Y

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Charizard-Mega-Y as a counter.

Zard-Y is a great Celesteela check. It can come on Celesteela even with rocks up, and OHKO it with Fire Blast.

Calcs :
0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 80-94 (26.9 - 31.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO (Zard-Y get 2HKOed with rocks up, but he's faster than Celesteela anyway)
252 SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela in Sun: 450-530 (113 - 133.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
srry to say but vsomani took zard y by reserving it

Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 116 Def / 144 SpD
Careful Nature
- Protect
- Knock Off
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover

Mega-Sableye as a counter. Mega-Sableye does not have to worry about Leech Seed due to Magic Bounce, while being able to reflect the seeds back at Celesteela. Mega-Sableye can also cripple Celesteela with Will-O-Wisp, making Heavy Slam do less damage, and with Knock Off, which removes Celesteela's only form of recovery specifically for this matchup. Flamethrower also does not do much to Sableye and it can easily stall Celesteela out with Recover/Status/Leech Seed.

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 112 Def Sableye-Mega: 99-117 (32.5 - 38.4%) -- 97.8% chance to 3HKO
0 Atk burned Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 112 Def Sableye-Mega: 49-58 (16.1 - 19%) -- possible 6HKO
0 SpA Celesteela Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 144+ SpD Sableye-Mega: 49-58 (16.1 - 19%) -- possible 6HKO

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Flare Blitz
- Roost

Even with Rocks before mega evolving it can't be defeated, can Roost or use Celesteela as a fodder to setup Dragon Dance.

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard: 80-94 (26.9 - 31.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock (without mega evolving)
0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-X: 59-70 (19.8 - 23.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Celesteela: 494-584 (124.1 - 146.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tapu Koko as Check

Tapu Koko @ Choice Specs
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Volt Switch
- U-turn

Tapu Koko just makes Celesteela switch out because it's an electric type and isn't spdef which makes it a simple check and just wins 1v1 against it. It always makes the opponent think about their moves considering U-Turn and Volt-Switch making your momentum of the game be stronger.

Vs. Celesteela
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela in Electric Terrain: 380-450 (95.4 - 113%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela in Electric Terrain: 380-450 (95.4 - 113%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Koko Volt Switch vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela in Electric Terrain: 296-350 (74.3 - 87.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Koko Volt Switch vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela in Electric Terrain: 296-350 (74.3 - 87.9%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Koko Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 56-67 (14 - 16.8%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery (please dont)
4- Atk Tapu Koko U-turn vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Celesteela: 12-15 (3 - 3.7%) -- possibly the worst move ever (only if youre a try hard)

Vs Tapu Koko
0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 150-177 (53.3 - 62.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 150-177 (53.3 - 62.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (consider how it dies if it stays in)
0 SpA Celesteela Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Koko: 87-103 (30.9 - 36.6%) -- 64.2% chance to 3HKO

SubCoil Zygarde as a counter (again)

Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 240 HP / 212 SpD / 56 Spe
Careful Nature
- Substitute
- Coil
- Thousand Arrows
- Toxic

Defensive Celesteela is the perfect setup bait since it can't break Zygarde subs.

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (80 BP) vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Zygarde: 75-88 (17.9 - 21.1%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
Does air slash breaks subs??
