The funniest things about what won this slate is that terrains are even worse now--still better than Sand's current fate though--and that Muddy Water from Mud Wash mons still accidentally explodes faces:
SLATE 07 WINNING MOVES:
Rebuild: Unexciting but fine, and it's not like it has to go to any of the stronger Steel mons. So the only things to say about it is that it going to
Magnezone & family might be the most impactful Steel without being obnoxious about it--that or
Iron Treads or
Heatran I guess--and that this might make Healing Stones even less appealing given it makes mons more self-sufficient healing-wise--oh no, what a nightmare. [/deadpan] Shrug.
Wash Away: The unfortunately natural reactionary outgrowth of
Gholdengo's stupid design is probably less impactful than people are acting, especially since it doesn't have to go to that many mons, much less any of the stronger Water mons and since it's thankfully -6 (and stopped by any Water-absorbing ability). I do agree with Gekokeso, however, that its PP should be as low as possible even as obnoxious as hazards are this gen in part because of Gholdengo. (Also this going to both Drizzle mons would make sense, but maybe only give it to
Politoed so it can pretend to have a niche? Shrug.)
Echo Chamber: The most difficult one to gauge given I haven't personally seen that much Round usage of yet, but it's not like I've really been around. I was considering voting for it, but...meh. It's fine.
SLATE 07 WINNING ITEMS:
Kee Berry / Maranga Berry: These should be fine, though, yes, it is somewhat funny that Yoshiblaze himself ended up buffing
Sneasler even more. "Top 10 anime betrayals" etcerta etcerta.
Binding Bind: Ugh. Why? I feel like this either makes trapping moves & ability rather obnoxious or just ends up doing nothing given all of the pivoting with very little healthy in-between. It feels very "feast or famine", and when the "feast" part is rewarding people for building DIY Shadow Tag, that doesn't seem great. So this is only thing that I won that I actively dislike.
Slingshot: I would have rather Bubble Gum won, mostly because my luck is so bad that the mon that's forced out randomly will still be the mon that my opponent intended to go to 90% of the time. Otherwise fine I guess, but like other people, I have to wonder what would regularly want this item even as someone annoyed by all of the pivoting as much I am all of the hazards (and all of the priority).
SLATE 07 WINNING ABILITIES:
Exoskeleton: Look forward to this, though weirdly more on non-Bug mons than actual Bug mons despite the latter overall probably needing more. More Ground resists are always welcome though, and more Ground resists without all of the weaknesses stapled to Grass or Bug (or technically Flying) even more so.
Sheer Force: Look forward to this too even though it will probably end up having to be more limited than maybe intended due to making things hit like trucks even before items. Will
Tinkaton finally become a notable offensive powerhouse?! (Answer: probably not.)
Water Veil: Glad to see this won, but we should maybe probably keep it away from
Milotic now that it has the extremely privileged Water/Fairy typing.
Shield Dust: Nice to see this finally win even if it wasn't submitted by me this time. It winning at the same time at Exoskeleton is a bit awkward though since both will likely go to a lot of same things.
SLATE 07 WINNING ADJUSTMENTS:
Landorus-Incarnate & Landorus-Therian: Sigh. Did we really have to buff one of the mons that deserves it least just because
Gliscor is being even more obnoxious than usual right now? I'd be fine if it was just
Landorus-Incarnate getting buffed since that's otherwise always stuck in Ubers and thus doesn't tend to get explored in OU anything, but the fact that
Landorus-Therian can't just be left barely by the wayside for once feels so forced. Oh well. I doubt this breaks anything. It just feels undeserved, like the people who keep trying to unban
Chien-Pao and
Chi-Yu like those mons would add anything positive to this or any other meta--Chien-Pao especially.
Milotic: As much as I've complained about Water/Fairy being a very privileged typing in the past (and it still is), I'm just glad that it doesn't have Calm Mind like
Primarina or
Tapu Fini before it. So thanks for that, chemicalmines. Shame Coil on it will probably still suck, even if it gets Water Veil--over Competitive I imagine--for some gods' forsaken reason.
Eeveelutions: I'm glad to see these won even though I wish they were buffed more. Weirdly, outside of
Vaporeon and
Sylveon despite those both
only getting Round, I'm not sure if any of these will make much of an impact from these changes beyond
Jolteon becoming a better revenge killer with Dazzling Gleam given all of Dark types apparently plaguing the tier (though
Iron Jugulis was already weak to Electric and
Kingambit is neutral to Fairy but at least weak to Overheat, so better not miss that).
Flareon and
Umbreon might even though I'm apparently so out of it this entire year that I didn't even notice the former had lost Flash Fire for Smelt (which I doubt it ever uses over Fur Coat anyway) until just now, but I still can't really see
Espeon,
Glaceon, or especially poor, poor
Leafeon getting any real use in OU still.
