Video games with really cool soundtracks

Ash Borer

I've heard they're short of room in hell
The Ace Attorney series. Pretty much any song from any of the 5 games, with a few exceptions.

It is far easier to just post a link to the channel, rather than to each individual song.

These are some of my personal favorites:

Good ol' Phoenix Wright. My personal favourites are the cornered themes from the Phoenix Wright saga. And yeah, I am aware that I can post a link to channels; the songs I've listed in my previous posts are just some of my personal favourites from ToS.

EDIT: Guilty Love is awesome as well.

though i've never felt ToS's soundtrack was worthy of quite as much praise as it receives (exception: far from our world), i think motoi sakuraba is p. talented composer, especially considering his work on baten kaitos

between the winds (this is it this is the prettiest song)
the true mirror ~ guitar version (if you like electric guitars. or maybe if you don't)
azure soul fountain (there are some pretty weird song titles in this game)
to the garden of the moon butterflies in the moonless night (see above)

i'd also like to recommend legend of mana, composed by yoko shimomura who is my favorite composer solely because of this game maybe

theme of mana (shimomura can write some pretty powerful music)
complicated destiny (although i think some of the effect is lost if you just hear the audio without playing the game)
cliff town gato (this is like a town theme only rad)

secret of evermore was a nifty action-rpg developed by square soft by americans in the english language for the SNES. a boy and his dog are sucked into a patchwork dreamworld where together they solve other people's problems, search for a way home and do battle with a maniacal robot butler. in space

introduction (secret of evermore is charming in its own right but sadly it lacks the haunting allure the introductory theme sort of suggests)
the secret of evermore (for some reason this song is on the soundtrack but doesn't appear in-game)
variations of castle theme (same goes for this one. i heard the soundtrack before i played SoE and then i was kind of let down when my favorite tunes didn't show up in the game :/)
dark castle (but then i reached ebon keep and was undisappointed)

my god, there are so many songs i want to post x:

Toothache

Skies of Arcadia has a fantastic soundtrack.

For more atmospheric stuff, check out the Legacy of Kain series of games.

And of course, Castlevania series has some of the best VG music around imo.

I've always thought that the Final Fantasy scores by Nobuo Uematsu, especially the scores from the Advent Children Movie (The movie was mediocre, the soundtracks were amazing imo).

superior objection music:

Other really good tracks from Umineko include:
Worldend Dominator
Justice
Fake Red Shoes
Hope
Thanks for Being Born

Another series with consistently fantastic music is Touhou.
Emotional Skyscraper
Captain Murasa
Suwa Foughten Field
Flawless Clothing of the Celestials
Broken Moon

I'd mention some others like Chrono Cross here but I'm sure everyone's heard those already.

so Obsessed is the most attractive person in the world right now for posting all that Ace Attorney stuff, I couldn't agree more and I love that music, especially the orchestrated versions, to death.

also seconding toothache's mention of Castlevania, and obligatory(?) mention of The World Ends With You, which to this day contains the single gayest song I will actually willingly listen to.

Blazblue and Guilty Gear both have really, really good music too.

Jin and Noel from Blazblue

Eddie and Millia from Guilty Gear

The soundtrack of super smash bros. brawl is the largest and most complete soundtrack i know of. Aside from that, the soundtrack of the legend of zelda: ocarina of time will always be one of my favs.

The Final Fantasy series, of course. Don't forget to check out The Black Mages' rock rearrangements.

Also Command and Conquer: Red Alert. Brilliant soundtrack, especially the famous Hell March.

You guys might be interested in a radio show on WRPI, they play and discuss a lot of old / new game music. It's on 8-10 PM on Sundays.

On of the best songs I've heard from a video game is definitely Metal Gear Solid. Let me know what you think after you listen to it...

Another song from MGS that I enjoyed was...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aHQnDTd1y4

Ah yes but lets not forget http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgxYIRQGDv0
Still my favorite as far as MGS

NOW ONTO SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARW91qriEqw

Probably my favorite videogame song right here. The rest of the music is awesome as well but I don't feel like linking an entire game.

The fact the Chrono games (Cross and Trigger) haven't been mentioned is blasphemy. They both have absolutely stunning soundtracks for the systems they were on.

Scars of Time (Chrono Cross Intro) < my favorite of all time

Magical dreamers AKA Song of Marbule.

Dragon God (Time Devourer Theme)

Prisoners of Fate - :*( Miguel

Chrono Trigger Theme

Frog's Theme <- epic

Lucca's Theme/Fanfare

Robo's Theme - I'm aware of what it sounds like <_<

Wind Scene (Medieval Overworld)

Magus's Theme (The timing is too perfect, I had to show it with the battle)

Schala's Theme (It's an absolute crime you don't get to hear this beautiful thing but twice in the game)

Undersea Palace

Final Boss Theme - do not try to tell me that isn't a creepy yell...if that were in a Pokemon game it'd be terrifying.

Those are the best 2, but other random games also have good soundtracks. The Donkey Kong Country series had a few that I really liked:

Gangplank Galleon for one was pretty awesome.

Stickerbrush Symphony is definitely one of the top 10 of all time.

Final Fantasy should go without saying, but here's a few of my favorites:

Clash on the Big Bridge Black Mages did an epic cover of it.

Force Your Way - FFVIII Boss music

Liberi Fatali - Damn creepy

Man with the Machine Gun
- Laguna is awesome, my favorite battle music, and yes I like FFVIII

The Landing - Epic both during the early game invasion but especially during the Garden slugfest later.

J-E-N-O-V-A - Better than the next one

One Winged Angel - *braces for fanboy hate*

FFI Victory Fanfare
- Still the best of the series

Dancing Mad part 1

Dancing Mad part 2

I also have a soft spot for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Mostly nostalgia:

Beware of Forest Mushrooms - I was lost for 3 damn hours...

Armed Boss - The EYE is protecting Exor!

Booster's Tower

Midas River

Battle Against Culex Actually the boss battle theme from FFIV, nice crossover from Squarsoft there :)

And a random wild card.

Live and Learn - I played this game a helluva lot and this is one of the 2 songs I remember, it's cheesy as hell, but I still like it.

That's it for now, maybe more later.

I'm giving a nod to the works of Tenpei Sato, known mostly for his work on games made by Nippon Ichi. When you put together games with graphics like those and battles that can go on for quite a while, the music better be kickass and Sato does not disappoint, especially with the soundtrack from Disgaea. Here's a couple of favorites:

Disgaea OST #18 - Beautiful Round Dance

Disgaea OST #23 - Sorrowful Angel

EDIT @d2m - How DARE you bring up Chrono Cross and NOT mention Dream of the Shore Near Another World! :P

And The ending theme of MGS1 is fantastic. It was quite a change to the sound of the rest of the game, however I thought it suited the ending really well.

Right now I love you, I was going to post that song myself.

Also, for all the MGS soundtrack goodness you want, check out Alvaroducks channel. It has every song of every soundtrack in the Metal Gear series from MGS1 till MGS3, Twin Snakes included. I recommend checking out Soldier vs Ghost from there too. (for those who have played MGS: This is the song from battle between Snake and Grey Fox in Twin Snakes)

And I agree with the Final Fantasy, it's definitely awesome stuff right there.

EDIT: I am just listening through the Chrono Trigger stuff, and it's absolutely beautiful. I can only imagine how they sound in the games, in their proper settings.
