Volcarona (QC 3/3)(GP 2/2)

Volcano Moth

[Overview]
 • Has a great offensive typing; its STAB attacks alone can hit a ton of threats in the metagame for super-effective damage
 • Resists common attacks such as Ice and Fighting
 • Has a great base 135 SpA, and it is paired with a solid 100 base speed
 • Additional support options in Tailwind and Rage Powder
 • Lacks coverage outside of STABs, and has a nasty 4x Rock weakness
[SET]
name: Standard
move 1: Heat Wave
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Quiver Dance
move 4: Protect
item: Lum Berry
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Quiver Dance allows you to rip through the metagame, should you find the time to use it
 • Heat Wave & Bug Buzz provide STAB coverage and Heat Wave additionally is a spread move, helping you to deal massive damage to both members of the opposition at once

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Lum Berry is the preferred item, curing you of paralysis or any other crippling status that comes your way, but Focus Sash allows you to set up with more ease, and is as such an option
 • A bulkier spread with a Bold Nature can also be used, running a defensive item like Charti Berry would be an option on a bulkier spread
 • In general, this set enjoys Rage Powder/Follow Me or Fake Out support, and anything that can beat Heatran is also helpful (Garchomp, Landorus, Tyranitar, Hitmontop, etc); Latios and other fast attackers can help take out threatening pokemon that are faster than Volcarona, like Terrakion and Garchomp

[SET]
name: Rage Powder
move 1: Heat Wave / Overheat
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Rage Powder
move 4: Protect
item: Lum Berry / Fire Gem
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Rage Powder allows you to draw in unfriendly attacks, and key resistances to Fighting and Ice help Volcarona make use it
 • Fire Gem Overheat can be used over Heat Wave for raw power, but Heat Wave is generally preferred as a spread move

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • A bulkier spread of 232 HP / 92 SpA / 184 Spe can be used (hitting a Sandstorm number and getting the jump on Landorus-Therian), allowing you to draw in attacks for longer, but the speed and offensive power is usually preferred; bulky Rage Powder abuse is better left to things like Amoonguss
 • Charti Berry is an option for tanking a Rock Slide, which Volcarona could not normally do
 • Lum Berry is the preferred item because it can draw in status attacks, and then cure Volcarona of them
 • This set pairs well with fast and hard-hitting pokemon, and faster paced teams that hate Thunder Waves in general (special mention includes Latios), anything that can beat Heatran is, as always, very helpful

[SET]
name: Offensive Tailwind
move 1: Overheat / Heat Wave
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Tailwind
move 4: Protect
item: Fire Gem / Bug Gem
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Tailwind allows you to support the team with a nifty speed boost, and lets Volcarona get past faster threats like Latios and Thundurus with more ease
 • Overheat is preferred for its raw power, but Heat Wave still remains a great option

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Lum Berry can still be used, but Gems are preferred to deal as much damage as possible
 • Good teammates include anything that can beat Heatran (following the pattern?), and in general, anything that would enjoy a good speed boost (and who doesn't). Like Quiver Dance, this set also enjoys Rage Powder/Follow Me or Fake Out support as well.

[Other Options]
 • Hidden Power
 • Hurricane
 • Psychic
 • Giga Drain
 • Magnet Rise
 • Sunny Day

[Check and Counters]
 • Speedy pokemon with Rock Slide access, such as Landorus and Garchomp, make the best checks; Rock types in general will give it a lot of trouble
 • Heatran walls any set (bar the rare Hidden Power) in and out, and can hit hard with Heat Wave
 • Swift Swimmers, Politoed, and other Water types will be able to deal a lot of damage, they won't enjoy a boosted Bug Buzz though
 • Volcarona is pretty frail overall, so it will hate opposing speed control methods of any kind, everything from Tailwind to Trick Room

[Overview]

Volcarona has one of the best offensive typings in the Doubles metagame. Its STAB attacks hit everything from Cresselia to Bisharp for super effective damage, and it even gains useful resistances to Ice- and Fighting-type moves. To make life even better, it has a massive Special Attack stat, alongside a solid base Speed. It even gets additional support options in Tailwind and Rage Powder. To top it all off, it is one of the few Pokemon capable of making use of setup moves in Doubles, which it does through Quiver Dance.

Unfortunately, even a fire-spewing moth has its faults. It is held back in that it has a mediocre Defense and a 4x weakness to Rock-type moves, leaving it susceptible to Rock Slide. Furthermore, a Water weakness leaves it begging for mercy against the majority of rain teams. It also has little coverage outside of its STABs. Fortunately, this rare species of "Volcano Moth" is far from extinct, as its lethal STAB combination is capable of taking down many common Doubles threats, including Cresselia, Breloom, Scizor, Hydreigon, and others.

[SET]
name: Standard
move 1: Heat Wave
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Quiver Dance
move 4: Protect
item: Lum Berry
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Volcarona is one of the few Pokemon that can successfully utilize setup moves in Doubles. After a Quiver Dance, it can rip through entire teams, as its STAB attacks get great coverage. Heat Wave provides a spread move and is lethal after a Quiver Dance boost. Bug Buzz is Volcarona's most powerful secondary STAB, dealing heavy damage to threats like Hydreigon and Cresselia. Protect allows Volcarona to evade dangerous attacks while your partner handles things.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Lum Berry is preferred, as it allows Volcarona to avoid being crippled by paralysis or sleep, but Focus Sash can be used, allowing Volcarona to survive an attack that would otherwise KO. It is almost always inferior though, as sandstorm and hail damage will KO afterwards anyway. A Modest nature can be used over the standard Timid one, but the loss in Speed is considerable, and it doesn't achieve any notable KOs. A bulkier spread using a Bold nature and a Lum or Charti Berry can be used, as it allows Volcarona to tank more hits, though the standard spread is generally better as it does not require a Quiver Dance to deal heavy damage.

Good teammates for this set include Rage Powder and Fake Out users, such as Amoonguss and HItmontop, which make setting up easier. Hitmontop is also capable of guarding Volcarona from dangerous spread attacks such as Muddy Water and Rock Slide with Wide Guard. Anything that can take out Heatran, such as Garchomp and Rotom-W, also makes a good partner. Fast Pokemon such as Latios also help against other fast Pokemon packing Rock Slide, such as Garchomp and Terrakion. Weavile, in particular, is good alongside this set, as it has high Speed, can provide Fake Out support, and can nail a lot of counters, such as Choice Scarf Tyranitar, Terrakion, and Garchomp for heavy damage; watch out for Tyranitar with Chople Berry, though, because it can tank a Low Kick and get a double KO with Rock Slide. Breloom and Virizion can also make solid partners, using STAB moves to take out Rock-types and bulky Water-types, both of which give Volcarona trouble, along with archetypal rain and sand teams in general. Breloom can also help shut down troublesome threats with Spore.

[SET]
name: Rage Powder
move 1: Heat Wave / Overheat
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Rage Powder
move 4: Protect
item: Lum Berry / Fire Gem
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Rage Powder allows Volcarona to make the most of its Fighting- and Ice-type resistances by drawing in attacks that would harm its teammates. Heat Wave is the typical STAB spread move, but Overheat is also an option alongside Fire Gem, as it is more powerful than a Dragon Gem Draco Meteor from Latios, meaning that because many Pokemon are specifically EVed to tank that attack, it can score unexpected OHKOs on bulky Thundurus and others. Bug Buzz and Protect are typical moves, providing secondary STAB and protection against harmful attacks, respectively.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Lum Berry is the typical item, curing Volcarona of any status that it draws in with Rage Powder. Fire Gem should only be used if you are running Overheat, as it provides that attack with the raw power that scores a lot of unexpected KOs. Charti Berry is also an option, allowing Volcarona to live through a Rock Slide, which it could not normally do. A bulkier spread of 232 HP / 92 SpA / 184 Spe with a Timid nature can be used, as it hits a sandstorm number and gets the jump on Landorus-T, but generally Volcarona is better off running offensive support; bulky support is better left to things like Togekiss and Amoonguss. If it is run, either a Charti Berry, Passho Berry, or Sitrus Berry should be used to tank hits.

This set pairs well with fast and heavy-hitting Pokemon that have good defensive synergy with Volcarona such as Latios, as Volcarona draws in attacks and paralysis, allowing its teammates to live longer. Anything that can get past Heatran, such as Garchomp, Landorus, Breloom, and Gastrodon, is also very helpful, as Volcarona has a lot of trouble with it.

[SET]
name: Offensive Tailwind
move 1: Overheat / Heat Wave
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Tailwind
move 4: Protect
item: Fire Gem / Bug Gem
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

One of Volcarona's most overlooked aspects is its ability to support its team through Tailwind. After a Tailwind boost, Volcarona is incredibly fast and can launch a Fire Gem Overheat to take out a variety of threats. Heat Wave is also a viable choice, as it can hit both of the opposing Pokemon simultaneously. Bug Buzz provides Volcarona with its most useful secondary STAB move, and Protect allows it to guard itself against dangerous attacks while its partner takes care of things.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

While Lum Berry is used on most Volcarona sets, this set prefers a Fire or Bug Gem boost, as it aims to blow a hole in something dangerous after it sets up Tailwind. A Modest nature can be used to hit even harder under Tailwind, but Timid is preferred for getting Tailwind up, and Modest will not score any important KOs that Timid cannot.

Good teammates for this set include Rage Powder users, such as Amoonguss, which draw attacks away from Volcarona, allowing it to set Tailwind without worrying about anything but spread attacks. Fake Out users can also support Volcarona by stopping an opponent from moving while it gets Tailwind up. Hitmontop in particular is also capable of guarding Volcarona from Muddy Water and Rock Slide with Wide Guard. Anything that can beat Heatran, the Pokemon Volcarona most despises, such as Garchomp and Landorus-T, also makes for a good partner. Fast Pokemon such as Latios also help against other fast Pokemon packing Rock Slide, such as Garchomp and Terrakion, though after Tailwind is up, a lot of Pokemon can handle these threats anyway. Breloom and Virizion can also make solid partners, using STAB moves to take out Rock-types and bulky Water-types, both of which give Volcarona trouble. Breloom, in particular, loves Tailwind support, as the Speed boost enables it to generally launch a Spore before the opposition can move, allowing it to incapacitate something dangerous. Additionally, anything that appreciates a boost in Speed and synergizes well with Volcarona is a solid partner for it.

[Other Options]

Fire Blast and Fiery Dance can be alternate Fire STABs, as they pack more power than Heat Wave at the cost of only being able to hit one target at a time and do not have a Special Attack drop like Overheat. Hidden Power Ground can achieve coverage against Heatran and anything else Volcarona struggles to hit; however, it is lacking in power and requires giving up a moveslot. Hurricane and Psychic can be used, taking out Hitmontop and other Fighting-types, but they are generally inferior to a Fire Gem boosted Overheat, which deals more damage. Giga Drain damages Politoed and can heal Volcarona, extending its longevity. Magnet Rise can surprise the opposition with a Ground-type immunity, but it is generally outclassed by Volcarona's support options in Tailwind and Rage Powder. Finally, Sunny Day can be used to mess with weather and buff Volcarona's Fire-type STAB to incredibly powerful levels, and Solarbeam can be used alongside it, hitting Rock- and Water-type Pokemon for heavy damage.

[Checks and Counters]

Heatran is more or less the ultimate Volcarona counter; bar the rare Hidden Power Ground, it walls every Volcarona in and out offensively. Heatran can easily hammer Volcarona back with Heat Wave, and Substitute Heatran can set up in Volcarona's face, making it even more difficult to take down. Chandelure is also a wonderful counter to Volcarona and can do what Heatran does by walling it and hammering it with repeated Heat Waves or setting Trick Room without fear of Volcarona's attacks.

Faster physical attackers, such as Terrakion, Landorus, Excadrill, and Garchomp, can move first and OHKO Volcarona with Rock Slide. Volcarona can do little back to most of these, but if it has a Quiver Dance up, it can outspeed and deal heavy damage, so be cautious. Excadrill gets a special mention, as Volcarona will need two Quiver Dance boosts to beat it. One rare potential checks is Stone Edge Hitmontop, which could trick Volcarona into thinking it is not an offensive problem. It is utterly destroyed by a Fire Gem Overheat though, so it needs to be played with caution. Rain in general will also give Volcarona trouble. Swift Swim Pokemon, particularly Kabutops and Kingdra, can run right through it with their respective STABs and can tank an unboosted Bug Buzz. Volcarona additionally hates opposing speed control; in particular, Thunder Wave and Trick Room will cripple it. Once it is slowed, a variety of slow threats can pick it off.

[Unreleased]

Volcarona has yet to receive its hidden ability, Swarm. If released, this ability would be found on most offensive Volcarona, such as the Quiver Dance and Tailwind sets. The Rage Powder set can certainly appreciate Flame Body for its potential to inflict burns on the users of redirected physical moves, but the power boost from Bug Buzz is always a major boon for Volcarona.

Mention Volcarona's teammates — this is important. And there are lots of them so should be easy :)
Place Psychic in OO, since it more or less hits whatever Hurricane does, and sometimes for more (Toxicroak???)

in the ACs on the first set, Mention how Pokemon like Latios, can outspeed Pokemon that would normally check Volcarona. Latios is able to OHKO Pokemon like Garchomp, and Terrakion before they even get to hit Volc.

rage powder needs to be bulkier imo. something like 232 HP / 92 SpA / 184 Speed for both timid and modest. hp gives a sandstorm number, outspeeds landog (with respective natures; modest needs to be slashed with timid, btw) and it has enough spA to OHKO said landog with gemmed overheat. iirc it knocks cress down to just under sitrus range too, which is pretty neat.

modest needs to be slashed in the other sets too. maybe consider mentioning bulkier sets with both of them in ac, especially if you're using hitmontop support. rock resist berry in the ac of the qd set now that i think about it.

I'm a bit skeptical about the bulky Rage Powder, you don't mention what attacks the bulk can tank, and Volcarona aims to be a offensive support pokemon, drawing in attacks, but also being very fast and having a lot of offensive presence. I'll put it in AC for now. I'll slash in Modest, though the speed drop is going to hurt, losing you Hydreigon, which is a pokemon Volcarona is great at checking. As for the bulky spreads, I already had this in AC for Standard (Quiver Dance):
 • A bulkier spread with a Bold Nature can also be used, running a defensive item like Charti Berry would be an option on a bulkier spread
So, that's more or less covered.

charti should be mentioned in the ac of the rage powder set too, especially if someone isn't running intimidate or wide guard with their volc because rock slide would instantly kill it otherwise

anyway this looks good though to be honest ive never seen a tailwind volc in doubles. it's relatively common in triples though...

Could you expand your Analyses a little more. In additional comments there is no mention of things like Hitmontop, A Pokemon that can support Volcarona with Fake out and Wide Guard support. In the 2nd set's acs all you really say is anything that can take out Heatran, what Pokemon do that. What Pokemon help Volcarona set up Tail wind. Expand this a little more and i'll re read it later

I just mentioned all of these in set 1, the issue is that every set has basically the same recommended teammates, but if you want me to just C&P everything in there, I will specified them in sets 2 & 3 as well.

-EDIT-
In all honesty, I think Volcarona would be better off with a "Team Options" section, rather than repeating the same thing thrice.

Overview

Overview is kinda weak. You did not mention Quiver Dance. Make its flaws more relevant to the metagame by stating how it's susceptible to Rain offense and 4x weak to Rock Slide. Just stating that it's 4x weak to rock and reciting its defensive stats is not all that informative. Rather than ending it with a cliche phrase, you can be more specific, "despite its flaws, Volcarona's lethal Bug- and Fire-type offense combined with its nifty resistances allow it to eliminate dangerous threats such as Breloom, Scizor, and Cresselia for the team.

Quiver Dance

I'd like to add Weavile as a particularly good teammate. With Ice Punch, Low Kick, and Night Slash it nails every Volcarona check hard. Garchomp, Salamence, Dragonite take an Ice Punch; Terrakion, Tyranitar, and Heatran eat a Low Kick; and Jellicent and Chandelure get stuffed by Chandelure. On top of that Weavile learns Fake Out, buying Volcarona time to nab a Quiver Dance boost. Meanwhile, Volcarona deals with annoying Steel- and Fighting-types like Genesect and Breloom for Weavile.

When you mentioned Latios as Volcarona's partner, add that it is also a good check to Rain. I dont think Togekiss is a particularly good example, because it shares the same weakness to Rock-type moves. Amoonguss sounds better for this reason (and it can switch into Rain Sweepers). You also mentioned Hitmontop without mentioning its number one support in Wide Guard. Thanks to this move, Hitmontop protects Volcarona from Surf and Rock Slide spam.

I've actually seen Breloom used as an effective partner with QD Volcarona. Despite its low Speed, it destroys any STAB Rock Slide users with its Technician Mach Punch. Unlike Weavile who struggles in removing bulky Water-types, Breloom has no problem thanks to Bullet Seed. The threat of Spore also puts a lot of pressure on the opponent, risking either something to be put to sleep by Breloom or allow Volcarona to set up QD safely.

I'm not particularly fond of the Focus Sash item slash, what do others think? I think Volcarona has plenty of useful resistances and bulk to make Focus Sash rather useless - it can certainly tank strong special hits after a QD. I think Sitrus Berry or a resisit berry like Passho or Charti Berry as more fitting as the secondary item. What are the rest of your thoughts? I may be totally wrong, lol.

Rage Powder

Sitrus Berry may be worth mentioning in AC for the immediate 25% recovery that can potentially allow Volcarona to tank another hit for its teammate. Specify that this item is reserved for the more defensive variants that are noted in AC.

Wherever you mention HP as an option, specify it as Hidden Power Ground / Water

I'm not a big fan of mentioning Garchomp and Landorus since 1) they compound Volcarona's weakness to Rain and 2) EQ hurts Volcarona. You can mention some sort of set up Sweeper that doesn't die to Surfs or Rock Slides. Tail Glow (or CM) Manaphy / CM Suicune comes to mind - these can take out Heatran, too, lol.

Tailwind

I'd be more original with teammates. You again mention Hitmontop without mentioning Wide Guard smh. I already explained my thoughts on Togekiss, but correct me if I'm wrong it. Rather than listing the same Garchomp / Landorus, just because it deals with Heatran, I'd consider teammates that arise from Tailwind support. Like Breloom - with increased Speed, it can Spore faster threats and destroy Water- and Rock-types with Bullet Seed. Kyurem / Kyurem-B with Earth Power also doesn't sound too terrible as a Tailwind beneficiary who can destroy Rain threats and Heatran, albeit it is also susceptible to Rock Slides.

Other Options

You can mention alternative Fire STAB moves like Fiery Dance and Fire Blast, both of which are weaker than Overheat, but will not force Volcarona to switch out.

Under Sunny Day's description, you can add that Volcarona can unleash SolarBeam to fry Water- and Rock-types ;d

Checks and Counters

Chandelure deserves a mention right under Heatran, as Volcarona's Fire STAB only feeds Chandelure's fiery offense, and Chandelure quad resists Bug Buzz.

You can add Excadrill as a special case of fast physical attacker, because Excadrill can still check a +1 Volcarona if Sand is up.

You can add Hitmontop with Stone Edge as an interesting case where a set up bait becomes a solid check to Volcarona. It has Wide Guard for Heat Wave, and it resists Bug Buzz, too.

I'd take out Tailwind and Icy Wind, because QD Volcarona and Tailwind Volcarona have Speed-boosting moves to offset these drops - paralysis and Trick Room is what really puts Volcarona out of commission.

To go with Pocket's great QC check, I shall reply by saying that I doubt it will be taking a STAB Rock Slide from anything, even if it has a Charti Berry, due to it's pitiful Defense, so Passho Berry if anything. But don't have Focus Sash as a main item.

I think that, on the Rage Powder, the spread should be more bulky. Lucariojr posted a great spread, and I think you should use it; the spread is 232 HP / 92 SpA / 184 Spe. This allows it to outspeed either Adamant or Jolly Landorus-T and everything slower, OHKO it with Fire Gem-boosted Overheat, and the rest in bulk, so you can actually utilize Rage Powder much better.

Other than that, I think Pocket got it all, so implement his many and my few suggestions pls :]

Did most of Pocket's suggestions. Note that Garchomp is not weak to Water, though you may have been aiming at Ice weakness. I kept Lando and Garchomp, and added in Gastrodon rather than Suicune and Manaphy, Gastrodon is immune to Water, and can blow Heatran sky high with either Muddy Water or Earth Power. Rage Powder Volcarona in particular can pair up with Stockpile Gastrodon, making it a complete nuisance to deal with.

As for the bulky spread thing, I'll stick with what I said to lucariojr (SHAME ON YOU LAGA YOU SPELLED HIS NAME WRONG), I want to see what that bulk does before I make it an official spread for the set. If you still get KOd by Stone Edge Hitmontop, Rock Slide Tyranitar, Muddy Water Gastrodon, etc, there won't be much reason to drop that offensive power, would there?

Elaborate on Hitmontop's Wide Guard support. Hitmontop's Wide Guard protects Volcarona primarily from Rock Slide and Surf / Muddy Water.

You can offer Weavile the same amount of detail as your Breloom / Virizion description - "Nailing a lot of counters for heavy damage," doesn't really tell me much - name these counters and how Weavile beats them. You forgot to mention Weavile's Fake Out support. It's also worth mentioning that Weavile is faster than Scarf TTar, so it can KO it with Low Kick before it can Rock Slide spam.

You forgot to mention Breloom's Spore support, which puts a lot of pressure on the opponent, risking either something to be put to sleep by Breloom or allow Volcarona to set up QD safely

Tailwind

You mentioned Breloom, but NOT in the context as a partner of Tailwind Volcarona - frame it so that readers would appreciate why Breloom is a good tailwind partner for Volcarona. It appreciates the Speed boost, firing Spore against faster threats and destroying Water- and Rock-types with Bullet Seed without dying to threats that are faster without Tailwind. Kyurem / Kyurem-B with Earth Power also doesn't sound too terrible as a Tailwind beneficiary who can destroy Rain threats and Heatran, albeit it is also susceptible to Rock Slides.

If you have better teammate options that pairs well with Volcarona under Tailwind, then feel free to replace one of my suggestions.

Other Options

Fiery Dance / Fire Blast is an alternative STAB move to Overheat, not Heat Wave, if you want to avoid the special fall.

Remove [] brackets when you write out Hidden Power Type. It's Hidden Power Ground without brackets

Only Chople TTar survives a Low Kick from Weavile, so I made the correction. Added Unreleased section - thanks, melvni, for catching that

Looked over the Unreleased section (mostly cuz.... well nvm I didn't actually have a reason :s). Anyways, I'm ready for GP now, it seems. I also stand in awe at how it took me three edits to get the title updated. 6_9

[Overview]

Volcarona has one of the best offensive typings in the Doubles metagame. Fire- and Bug-type attacks hit everything from Cresselia to Bisharp for super effective damage, and it even gains useful resistances to Ice- and Fighting-type moves from its typing as well. To make life even better, it has a massive 135 base Special Attack, alongside a solid 100 base Speed. It even gets additional support options in Tailwind and Rage Powder. To top it all off, it is one of the few pokemon capable of making use of setup moves in Doubles, which it does through Quiver Dance.

Unfortunately, even a fire-spewing moth has its faults. It is held back in that it has a mediocre physical defense [removed ,] and a 4x Rock weakness to Rock-type moves, leaving it susceptible to Rock Slide. Furthermore, a Water-type weakness leaves it begging for mercy against the majority of rain teams. It also has little coverage outside of its STABs. Fortunately, this rare species of "Volcano Moth" is far from extinct, as its lethal Bug and Fire STAB combination is are capable of taking down the common threats of Doubles, namely Cresselia, Breloom, Scizor, Hydreigon, and more.

[SET]
name: Standard
move 1: Heat Wave
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Quiver Dance
move 4: Protect
item: Lum Berry
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Volcarona is one of the few pokemon that can successfully utilize abuse setup moves in Doubles. After a Quiver Dance, it can rip through entire teams, since its STAB attacks get great coverage. Heat Wave provides a spread move [removed ,] dealing damage to both opponents, making it and is lethal after a Quiver Dance boost. Bug Buzz is the secondary STAB. Protect allows you to evade Protect yourself against dangerous attacks while your partner handles things.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Lum Berry is preferred, as it allows you to avoid being crippled by paralysis or sleep, but Focus Sash can be used, allowing you to survive an attack that would KO. This is almost always inferior though, since Sandstorm and Hail will KO afterwards, [comma] anyway. A Modest nature can be used over the standard Timid one, but the loss in Speed will be considerable. A bulkier spread using a Bold nature and a Lum/Charti Berry can be used, as it allows you to tank hits better, though the faster spread is better since it does not require a Quiver Dance to deal heavy damage.

Good teammates for this set include Rage Powder/Fake Out users , such as Hitmontop and Amoonguss, which make setting up easier. Hitmontop is also capable of guarding Volcarona from dangerous spread attacks like Muddy Water and Rock Slide with Wide Guard. Anything that can beat Heatran, the pokemon Volcarona despises, will also make a good partner. Fast pokemon such as Latios will also help against other fast pokemon packing Rock Slide, such as Garchomp and Terrakion. Weavile, [comma] in particular, [comma] is good for this set, as it has high speed, can provide Fake Out support, and can nail a lot of counters, such as Scarf Tyranitar, Terrakion, and Garchomp for heavy damage; watch out for Tyranitar with Chople Berry, though, because it can tank a Low Kick and get a double KO with Rock Slide. Breloom and Virizion can also make solid partners, using STAB moves to take out Rock-types & and bulky Water-types, both of which give Volcarona trouble, along with archetypal rain and sand teams in general. and Rain and Sand team archetypes in general. Breloom can also help shut down troublesome threats with Spore.

[SET]
name: Rage Powder
move 1: Heat Wave / Overheat
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Rage Powder
move 4: Protect
item: Lum Berry / Fire Gem
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Rage Powder is the crux of this set, allowing allows Volcarona to draw in attacks that would harm its teammates, making the most of its Fighting- and Ice-type resistances. Heat Wave is the typical STAB spread move, but Fire Gem Overheat is also an option, as it is more powerful than a Dragon Gem Draco Meteor from Latios, and since many pokemon are EVed to take that attack, it can score unexpected OHKOs on bulky Thundurus and others. Bug Buzz and Protect are typical moves, providing respective secondary STAB and protection against harmful attacks, respectively.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Lum Berry is the typical item, drawing in status and curing Volcarona of it. Fire Gem should only be used if you are running Overheat, since the raw power of that attack is truly impressive. Charti Berry is also an option, allowing Volcarona to live through a Rock Slide, which it could not normally do. A bulkier spread of 232 HP / 92 SpA / 184 Spe with a Timid nature can be used, as it hits a sandstorm number and gets the jump on Landorus-T, but generally Volcarona is better off running offensive support; [changed , to ;] bulky support is better left to things like Togekiss and Amoonguss. If it is run, either a Charti Berry, Passho Berry, or Sitrus Berry should be used to tank hits.

This set pairs well with fast and heavy-hitting pokemon that have good defensive synergy with Volcarona [removed ,] such as Latios, which as it draws in attacks and paralysis, allowing them [who?] to live longer. Anyone that can get past Heatran, such as Garchomp, Landorus, Breloom, and Gastrodon, are also very helpful, as Volcarona has a lot of trouble with it.

[SET]
name: Offensive Tailwind
move 1: Overheat / Heat Wave
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Tailwind
move 4: Protect
item: Fire Gem / Bug Gem
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

One of Volcarona's most overlooked aspects is its the ability to support its team through Tailwind. After a Tailwind boost, Volcarona is incredibly fast [removed ,] and can launch a Fire Gem Overheat to take out a variety of threats. Heat Wave is also a viable choice, as it can hit both of the opposing Pokemon opposition simultaneously. Bug Buzz provides Volcarona with its most useful secondary STAB move, and Protect allows it to guard itself against dangerous attacks while its partner takes care of things. Bug Buzz and Protect provide the typical secondary STAB and allow it to guard itself against dangerous attacks while its partner takes care of things, respectively.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

While Lum Berry was used on the other sets, this set prefers a Fire/Bug Gem boost, as it aims to set Tailwind [removed ,] and then blow a hole in something dangerous. A Modest nature can be used to hit even harder under Tailwind, but Timid is preferred for getting Tailwind up. This set will pair well with anything that would enjoy a Speed boost, which is virtually everything.

Good teammates for this set include Rage Powder/Fake Out users[removed space], such as Hitmontop and Amoonguss, which make setting Tailwind easier. Hitmontop is also capable of guarding Volcarona from Muddy Wayer/Rock Slide with Wide Guard. Anything that can beat Heatran, the Pokemon Volcarona truly despises, will also make a good partner. Fast Pokemon such as Latios will also help against other fast Pokemon packing Rock Slide, such as Garchomp and Terrakion. Breloom and Virizion can also make solid partners, using STAB moves to take out Rock-types & bulky Water-types, both of which give Volcarona trouble. Breloom, [comma] in particular, [comma] loves the Tailwind support, as it can generally launch a Spore before the opposition can move, allowing it to incapacitate putting a stop to something dangerous. Additionally, anything that will appreciate a boost in Speed and synergizes well with Volcarona will be a solid partner for it.

[Other Options]

Volcarona has a few options to consider. Fire Blast or Fiery Dance can be alternate Fire-type STABs, as they pack more power than Heat Wave at the sacrifice of only one target at a time [removed ,] and avoid a Special Attack drop from Overheat. Hidden Power Ground can achieve coverage against Heatran [removed ,] or anything else you need to hit; [changed , to ;] however, it is lacking in power and requires giving up a moveslot. Hurricane and Psychic can be used in rain, taking out Hitmontop and such, and so can Psychic, but they are generally inferior to a Fire Gem Overheat, which deals more damage. Giga Drain damages Politoed and can heal Volcarona, extending its longevity. Magnet Rise can surprise the opposition with a Ground-type immunity, but it is generally outclassed by Volcarona's support options in Tailwind and Rage Powder. Finally, Sunny Day can be used to mess with weather while buffing your Fire-type STAB to incredibly powerful levels, and Solarbeam can be used alongside it.

[Checks & Counters]

Heatran is more or less the ultimate Volcarona counter, bar the rare Hidden Power Ground, it walls every Volcarona in and out offensively. Heatran can easily hammer Volcarona back with Heat Wave, and Substitute Heatran can use Substitute in Volcarona's face, making it even more difficult to take it down. Chandelure is also a wonderful counter to Volcarona [removed ,] and can do what Heatran does [removed ,] by walling it [removed ,] and hammering it with repeated Heat Waves [removed ,] or setting Trick Room while it is on the field.

Excadrill gets a bonus, as Volcarona will need two Quiver Dance boosts to beat it. One rare mention involves Stone Edge Hitmontop, which could trick Volcarona into thinking it is not an offensive problem. It will be utterly destroyed by a Fire Gem Overheat though, so it will need to be played with caution. Rain in general will also give Volcarona trouble. Swift Swim Pokemon, particularly Kabutops and Kingdra, can run right through it with their respective STABs [removed ,] and can tank an unboosted Bug Buzz.

Volcarona will additionally hates opposing Speed control; in particular, Thunder Wave and Trick Room in particular will cripple it. Once it is slowed, a variety of slow threats can pick it off; a Thunder Wave (or Trick Room) is basically the equivalent of drawing a target on Volcarona's back.

[Unreleased]

Volcarona has yet to receive its hidden ability, [comma] in Swarm. If released, this ability would be found on most offensive Volcarona, such as the Quiver Dance and Tailwind sets. The Rage Powder set can certainly appreciate Flame Body for a potential burn on redirected physical moves, but the power boost from in Bug Buzz is always a major boon for on Volcarona.

Before any further checks are done, the second paragraph of AC from the Tailwind set is the same of that of the Quiver Dance one. I know it's pretty much the same info but I'd prefer that you concise it a little bit instead of copying it directly. Otherwise it's extremely redundant. Once that's done, we can proceed with the next check. I'll try to get to it later but don't wait up for me :p

edit: also in the future, capitalize all stats (HP, Attack (Atk), Defense (Def), Special Attack (SpA), Special Defense (SpD), Speed (Spe)), and the word "Pokemon,". It negates unnecessary work for the GPers.

I checked and they aren't exactly the same, but only a few changes are in there (Quiver Dance mentions Weavile, Tailwind emphasizes how Breloom enjoys the support). Still, I tried to shift the structure around and differentiate them as much as possible.

Also, capitalization noted. Wasn't sure whether to capitalize those or not.

Weavile, in particular, is good for alongside this set, as it has high speed Speed, can provide Fake Out support, and can nail a lot of counters, such as Choice Scarf Tyranitar, Terrakion, and Garchomp for heavy damage; watch out for Tyranitar with Chople Berry, though, because it can tank a Low Kick and get a double KO with Rock Slide. Breloom and Virizion can also make solid partners, using STAB moves to take out Rock-types and bulky Water-types, both of which give Volcarona trouble, along with archetypal rain and sand teams in general. Breloom can also help shut down troublesome threats with Spore.

[SET]
name: Rage Powder
move 1: Heat Wave / Overheat
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Rage Powder
move 4: Protect
item: Lum Berry / Fire Gem
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Rage Powder allows Volcarona to draw in attacks that would harm its teammates, making make the most of its Fighting- and Ice-type resistances by drawing in attacks that would harm its teammates. Heat Wave is the typical STAB spread move, but Fire Gem Overheat is also an option alongside Fire Gem, as it is more powerful than a Dragon Gem Draco Meteor from Latios, and since meaning that because many pokemon Pokemon are specifically EVed to tank that attack, it can score unexpected OHKOs on bulky Thundurus and others. Bug Buzz and Protect are typical moves, providing secondary STAB and protection against harmful attacks, respectively.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Lum Berry is the typical item, drawing in status and curing Volcarona of it any status it draws in. Fire Gem should only be used if you are running Overheat, since as it provides that attack with the raw power of that attack is truly impressive that makes it effective (you can make a different change here if you don't like mine, but I feel its necessary to emphasize you use Fire Gem becuase it gives the attack the power it needs).

This set pairs well with fast and heavy-hitting pokemon Pokemon that have good defensive synergy with Volcarona such as Latios, as Volcarona draws in attacks and paralysis, allowing its teammates to live longer. Anyone Anything that can get past Heatran, such as Garchomp, Landorus, Breloom, and Gastrodon, are is also very helpful, as Volcarona has a lot of trouble with it.

[SET]
name: Offensive Tailwind
move 1: Overheat / Heat Wave
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Tailwind
move 4: Protect
item: Fire Gem / Bug Gem
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

One of Volcarona's most overlooked aspects is its ability to support its team through Tailwind. After a Tailwind boost, Volcarona is incredibly fast and can launch a Fire Gem Overheat to take out a variety of threats. Heat Wave is also a viable choice, as it can hit both of the opposiing opposing Pokemon simultaneously. Bug Buzz provides Volcarona with its most useful secondary STAB move, and Protect allows it to guard itself against dangerous attacks while its partner takes care of things.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

While Lum Berry was is used on the other most Volcarona sets, this set prefers a Fire/Bug Fire or Bug Gem boost, as it aims to set Tailwind and then blow a hole in something dangerous after it sets up Tailwind. A Modest Nature nature can be used to hit even harder under Tailwind (are there any specific threats this helps with?), but Timid is preferred for getting Tailwind up.

Good teammates for this set include Rage Powde Powder users, such as Amoonguss, which draw attacks away from Volcarona, allowing it to set Tailwind without worrying about anything but spread attacks. Fake Out abusers users can also support Volcarona by stopping an opponent from moving while Volcarona it gets Tailwind up. Hitmontop in particular is also capable of guarding Volcarona from Muddy Wayer/Rock Slide Muddy Water and Rock Slide with Wide Guard. Anything that can beat Heatran, the pokemon Pokemon Volcarona truly despises most, such as Garchomp and Landorus-Therian Landorus-T, will also make makes for a good partner. Fast Pokemon such as Latios will also help against other fast pokemon Pokemon packing Rock Slide, such as Garchomp and Terrakion. Breloom and Virizion can also make solid partners, using STAB moves to take out Rock-types and bulky Water-types, both of which give Volcarona trouble. Breloom, in particular, loves the Tailwind support, as it can the Speed boost enables it to generally launch a Spore before the opposition can move, allowing it to incapacitate something dangerous. Additionally, anything that will appreciate appreciates a boost in Speed and synergizes well with Volcarona will be is a solid partner for it.

[Other Options]
(add blank line)

Volcarona has a few options to consider. Fire Blast or and Fiery Dance can be alternate Fire-STABs Fire STABs, as they pack more power than Heat Wave at the sacrifice cost of only being able to hit one target at a time, (remove comma) and avoid do not have a Special Attack drop from like Overheat. Hidden Power Ground can achieve coverage against Heatran or anything else you need to and many other things Volcarona otherwise struggles to hit, (change to semicolon) however, it is lacking in power and requires giving up a moveslot. Hurricane and Psychic can be used, taking out Hitmontop and such, but they are generally inferior to a Fire Gem boosted Overheat, which deals more damage. Giga Drain damages Politoed and can heal Volcarona, extending its longevity. Magnet Rise can surprise the opposition with a Ground-type immunity, but it is generally outclassed by Volcarona's support options in Tailwind and Rage Powder. Finally, Sunny Day can be used to mess with weather while buffing your and buff Volcarona's Fire-type STAB to incredibly powerful levels, and Solarbeam can be used alongside it, hitting Rock- and Water-type Pokemon for heavy damage.

[Checks & and Counters]

Heatran is more or less the ultimate Volcarona counter, (change to semicolon) bar the rare Hidden Power Ground, it walls every Volcarona in and out offensively. Heatran can easily hammer Volcarona back with Heat Wave, and Substitute Heatran can use Substitute set up in Volcarona's face, making it even more difficult to take it down. Chandelure is also a wonderful counter to Volcarona and can do what Heatran does by walling it, (remove comma) and hammering it with repeated Heat Waves or setting Trick Room without fear of Volcarona's attacks.

Excadrill gets a bonus special mention, as Volcarona will need two Quiver Dance boosts to beat it. One rare mention involves potential check is Stone Edge Hitmontop, which could trick Volcarona into thinking it is not an offensive problem. It will be is utterly destroyed by a Fire Gem Overheat though, so it will need needs to be played with caution. Rain in general will also give Volcarona trouble. Swift Swim Pokemon, particularly Kabutops and Kingdra, can run right through it with their respective STABs and can tank an unboosted Bug Buzz.

(merge these two paragraphs)

Volcarona additionally hates opposing speed control; in particular, Thunder Wave and Trick Room will cripple it. Once it is slowed, a variety of slow threats can pick it off.

[Unreleased]

Volcarona has yet to receive its hidden ability, Swarm. If released, this ability would be found on most offensive Volcarona, such as the Quiver Dance and Tailwind sets. The Rage Powder set can certainly appreciate Flame Body for a its potential burn to inflict burns on the users of redirected physical moves, but the power boost from Bug Buzz is always a major boon for Volcarona.

GP: 2/2

Alright GP checks are done, but before I mark it as "Done", I just want to know if the Team Options sections from "Standard" and "Offensive Tailwind" are too much alike, just to be safe.
