Volcarona stands out as a powerful special attacker in a format dominated by physical attackers, boasting a unique offensive typing that lets it threaten a wide variety of threats, such as Cresselia, Aegislash, Mega Mawile, Ferrothorn, Hydreigon, and Slowbro, with its STAB moves. Volcarona's naturally high Special Attack and Speed along with access to Quiver Dance make it an effective sweeper that is made more dangerous with the fact that most walls are physically defensive rather than specially defensive. Flame Body lets Volcarona punish physical attackers that manage to take it down using contact moves, potentially crippling a foe trying to hit its weaker Defense stat. However, this frailty makes it difficult for Volcarona to find setup opportunities against physical attackers, and weaknesses to common types such as Rock, Flying, and Water limit the number of Pokemon that Volcarona can set up on and allow it to be more easily revenge killed. Furthermore, Volcarona's Bug / Fire typing leaves it walled by many top threats such as Mega Salamence, Talonflame, Blaziken, Heatran, and Azumarill, forcing it to pick what it can and can't beat with its coverage moves.

Moves
========

Quiver Dance lets Volcarona function as an effective setup sweeper thanks to its solid base 100 Speed and naturally high Special Attack. Fire Blast is Volcarona's strongest STAB move and has great neutral coverage, which is important to guarantee the OHKO against threats such as Landorus-T and Thundurus after a boost. Flamethrower gives up some of Fire Blast's power for accuracy, notably missing out on the guaranteed OHKO against Landorus-T after a Quiver Dance boost. Bug Buzz is Volcarona's secondary STAB move and lets it hit the Dragon-, Water-, and Rock-types that resist Fire-type moves. Notably, this is Volcarona's best move for hitting Cresselia, Hydreigon, and Tyranitar. Giga Drain is an alternative if Bug-type coverage isn't necessary, hitting Water-types such as Rotom-W and Suicune harder than Bug Buzz while preventing Azumarill from walling Volcarona and getting a free Belly Drum against it. The recovery it offers is also useful for keeping Volcarona healthy while it sweeps. However, running both Bug Buzz and Giga Drain is viable as well. Hidden Power Ice is preferred in the last slot to hit Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and Landorus-T, which notably allows Volcarona to more comfortably opt for Flamethrower, since it no longer needs Fire Blast to OHKO the last. Hidden Power Ground is an alternative that hits Fire-types that would otherwise wall Volcarona, such as Heatran, Blaziken, and Entei, though Volcarona needs multiple boosts in order to OHKO the latter two.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment maximizes Volcarona's damage output while ensuring that it's as fast as possible, outspeeding Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T after one Quiver Dance boost. While it doesn't come into play often, the leftover EVs are placed in HP to give Volcarona an odd HP number, which allows it to switch into Stealth Rock twice. If you run Hidden Power Ground, 4 Special Attack EVs should be moved to Defense so that no EVs are wasted. A Modest nature is preferred to boost Volcarona's power further, since Quiver Dance boosts are enough to let it afford the Speed drop and the Speed boost from Timid isn't as useful. This also lets Volcarona OHKO Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Mega Salamence with Hidden Power Ice on the switch without needing to boost. Modest is also preferred if you're running Flamethrower over Fire Blast. Timid is typically inferior to Modest but lets Volcarona Speed tie with Mega Kangaskhan before boosting as well as outspeed Jolly Choice Scarf Excadrill and the occasional Jolly Choice Scarf Landorus-T after boosts.

Lum Berry is the preferred item to prevent Toxic and Thunder Wave users such as Cresselia and Thundurus from cutting Volcarona's sweep short; this also lets it function as an effective Klefki check. Focus Sash is an alternative that gives Volcarona a chance to set up against otherwise unsafe foes such as Hydreigon and offensive Zapdos if there's no risk of a priority user finishing it off later, and it also functions as a safety net against threats such as Jolly Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Jolly Choice Scarf Garchomp. Flame Body allows Volcarona to punish physical attackers that make contact with it, potentially crippling a dangerous threat such as Mega Kangaskhan or Mega Salamence as it goes down, which can give its teammates an easier time cleaning afterwards.

Usage Tips
========

Volcarona's goal is to sweep, so it'll usually be brought in after a teammate has been KOed or switched into something that can't hurt it much, such as Ferrothorn or Cresselia. If Volcarona tries to set up early, be sure that it has partners such as Choice Scarf Garchomp that can clean up in case Volcarona can't finish the job. Likewise, avoid setting up early if Volcarona is needed to beat a specific threat such as Cresselia, since it's typically used for the unique coverage that its Bug / Fire typing offers. Lum Berry makes it easier for Volcarona to set up against Pokemon that can only threaten it with status, so don't hesitate to set up against foes that can't do much immediate damage such as Porygon2 and Serperior.

Volcarona has very troubling matchups depending on its coverage move, but generally it should avoid setting up if the opponent has a Fire-type, since it can't hit most of them without Hidden Power Ground. Fire Blast is the move Volcarona should be using most of the time due to its huge power even without boosts; if you're running Flamethrower instead, this is still the preferred STAB move due to the superior coverage over its other moves. Bug Buzz should generally only be used against weakened foes and Pokemon that are weak to Bug or resist Fire such as Hydreigon, Suicune, and Tyranitar. Otherwise, it shouldn't be used unless missing Fire Blast is a big risk; even if Bug Buzz doesn't KO, the guaranteed damage can be more important, especially if a partner can pick off the foe afterwards.

Team Options
========

Mega Salamence creates an aggressive setup sweeper pair with Volcarona that boasts great defensive synergy, beating most Fire-types and Belly Drum Azumarill for Volcarona while appreciating Volcarona's ability to switch into Ice Beam and Fairy-types. Intimidate from Salamence before it Mega Evolves also helps Volcarona against physical attackers. Mega Kangaskhan appreciates Volcarona's ability to beat Steel-types such as Mega Mawile and Ferrothorn as well as Cresselia and the occasional Mega Sableye, while Mega Kangaskhan breaks down walls to let Volcarona sweep more easily. Volcarona also appreciates partners that can remove special walls like Chansey, so Mega Gengar makes for an effective partner by trapping and beating these walls. Cresselia can switch into most physical attackers that threaten Volcarona, such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Blaziken, while notably dealing with Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Mega Salamence if Volcarona lacks Hidden Power Ice. Cresselia also has Lunar Dance, which can give Volcarona a second chance to sweep.

Stealth Rock gives Volcarona an easier time sweeping, giving it a greater chance to OHKO threats such as Aegislash in Shield forme before boosts, as well as Mega Kangaskhan, Zapdos, and bulkier Thundurus at +1. Stealth Rock also cripples Talonflame, which completely stops Volcarona. Garchomp, Hippowdon, Landorus-T, and Mamoswine are all effective partners that can offer this support while being able to check Talonflame and other Fire-types to varying degrees. Hippowdon in particular can put foes to sleep or force them out with Yawn, which can help Volcarona set up. Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, Serperior, and Breloom deal with Water-types that give Volcarona trouble if it lacks Giga Drain. Ferrothorn in particular offers Stealth Rock support and a sturdy Rock-type switch-in for Volcarona. However, all of these are threatened by Fire-types, which Volcarona struggles against as well. Water-types such as Rotom-W, Greninja, Azumarill, Suicune, Cloyster, and Gyarados can take on the Fire- and Rock-types that threaten Volcarona. Volcarona can deal with any Grass-type for them, and Rotom-W in particular serves as an effective Talonflame check. Cloyster also pairs well as a setup sweeper alongside Volcarona, overwhelming slower teams. Electric-types such as Thundurus, Raikou, and Rocky Helmet Zapdos are also capable of checking Flying-types such as Talonflame and Mega Salamence for Volcarona.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Swarm pairs well with Focus Sash to boost Bug Buzz's power after taking an otherwise lethal hit, which provides a more powerful and accurate alternative to Fire Blast when in Swarm range. Notably, a +1 Swarm-boosted Bug Buzz will almost always OHKO standard Mega Kangaskhan, while Sucker Punch from Adamant Mega Kangaskhan will usually put Volcarona into Swarm range. Hidden Power Rock hits Talonflame on the switch and prevents Mega Charizard Y from walling Volcarona, though it has no real advantages otherwise and requires Focus Sash to beat Talonflame reliably. Psychic can be used to hit Blaziken, though it needs boosts to reliably OHKO Mega Blaziken and doesn't hit much beyond that. Substitute can punish switch-ins and create extra turns for Volcarona to set up, though this means Volcarona is easier to wall because it gives up coverage.

Volcarona can run a Choice Scarf set with Fiery Dance, which allows it to function as a dedicated revenge killer and late-game cleaner thanks to Volcarona's high Special Attack and solid base 100 Speed for a Choice Scarf user. Fiery Dance can also be used on a Quiver Dance set for the chance to accumulate boosts while sweeping, though the fact that it has lower power than Flamethrower can be problematic. Overheat can be used as a last-resort attack alongside Fire Blast or Flamethrower and fits well on a Choice Scarf set, securing OHKOs on Mega Gengar, Thundurus, and Aegislash. Life Orb can give Volcarona a noticeable power boost if you're running a Timid nature or if Lum Berry's buffer against status isn't desired, though Volcarona hits very hard without the boost anyway. Roost is also an option on a Life Orb set and provides longevity; it also opens up the possibility of a bulky physically defensive Volcarona with a Bold nature, though as a sweeper with common weaknesses, it isn't easy to find opportunities to make use of a bulky Volcarona.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physical Attackers**: Volcarona is physically frail, so strong physical attacks from the likes of Garchomp, Mega Kangaskhan, and Mega Salamence will easily KO it. However, Flame Body risks crippling many physical attackers, so even if Volcarona faints, the burn can be more detrimental for the foe than Volcarona itself going down.

**Priority Moves**: Volcarona's poor physical bulk makes it susceptible to being revenged killed by priority moves from physical attackers such as Talonflame, Mega Mawile, Mega Kangaskhan, Dragonite, and Azumarill. Talonflame in particular resists both of Volcarona's STAB moves and can easily OHKO it with Gale Wings Brave Bird while being immune to burns due to its typing. Most other priority users must be aware of the risk of Flame Body, and others like Mega Mawile also risk being KOed in return if Volcarona is healthy.

**Rock-type Moves**: Many Pokemon carry Rock-type coverage for Talonflame, so otherwise non-threatening Pokemon such as Breloom and Heracross are risky for Volcarona to switch into. Landorus-T, Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Hippowdon all usually carry Rock-type moves as well, so they can threaten Volcarona and prevent it from setting up. Stealth Rock is another huge issue, since Volcarona loses half of its HP when switching into it, making it far more difficult for Volcarona to set up. Common Rock-type moves also don't make contact, so foes don't even fear Flame Body burns punishing them.

**Fire-types**: Volcarona's STAB combination is resisted by Fire-types, which can't be burned by Flame Body either, and none of its common coverage moves help against them except in specific cases. Blaziken, Heatran, Entei, Mega Charizard Y, and Rotom-H all wall Volcarona and threaten it due to Volcarona lacking a Fire resistance itself. However, Blaziken and Heatran must be wary of the occasional Psychic or Hidden Power Ground, respectively.

**Water-types**: Water-types such as Gyarados and Suicune don't mind Fire Blast while threatening to KO Volcarona with their respective Water-type moves; the former resists Bug Buzz as well, though it must be wary of getting burned by Flame Body. Other Water-types such as Rotom-W and Greninja also threaten Volcarona, though if Volcarona manages to get enough boosts, then it doesn't mind them as much and can threaten them with Bug Buzz or Giga Drain.

**Dragon-types**: Volcarona can't touch most Dragon-types if it lacks Hidden Power Ice, so Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and Mega Charizard X can comfortably set up on or outright KO it due to its low Defense. Mega Charizard X in particular resists all of Volcarona's moves aside from Hidden Power Ground, and it can avoid Mega Evolving to maintain an immunity to Ground while also being immune to burns from Flame Body.

**Chansey**: Volcarona struggles against Chansey due to its monstrous Special Defense. Even with a Lum Berry, Chansey can continue to use Toxic against Volcarona and stall it out with Soft-Boiled. However, using Seismic Toss can result in Chansey being burned, which can wear it down enough for a partner to finish it off, so being too careless against Volcarona can put Chansey in a tough spot.

I wanted this eventually ;(

But anyway, Timid should be slashed to outspeed faster threats after a boost, like Scarfers.

Alright, ready for QC now. Seems that bobochan and Hulavuta have already called checking this so whenever you guys are ready. There's a few things that I think fit fine in either the main set or OO but I'll see what you guys think. Also idk about the Chansey being possibly overpowered by Volcarona bit (I mean it technically has happened to me) but you guys can be the judges of that.

[OVERVIEW]

-Unique offensive typing lets it threaten numerous Pokemon such as Cresselia, Aegislash, Mega Mawile, Ferrothorn, and Hydreigon (Slowbro maybe?).

Name: Special Sweeper
Move 1: Quiver Dance
Move 2: Fire Blast / Flamethrower
Move 3: Bug Buzz / Giga Drain
Move 4: Hidden Power Ice / Giga Drain / Hidden Power Ground
Item: Lum Berry / Focus Sash
Ability: Flame Body
Nature: Modest / Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

This is my version, Heatran is most commonly seen with Cresselia (PGL), a combination of Bug Buzz and HP Ground really annoys the core. Last but not least, +1 HP Ground also OHKOs Blaziken. (Up to you/second QC.)
Giga Drain only hits Rotom-W and Suicune slightly harder than Bug Buzz and both of these moves are useless once Suicune is at +1.
(Actually Giga Drain doesn't even 2HKO Suicune at neutral.)
252+ SpA Volcarona Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Suicune: 86-102 (41.5 - 49.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
That's why I've slashed it with Bug Buzz since they kinda hit similar things.

Moves
========

When you talk about Giga Drain mention how it gives you recovery.

Set Details
========

-Modest is preferred to boost Volcarona's power further since Quiver Dance boosts are enough to let it afford the speed drop, and the Speed boost from Timid isn't as useful.
Also mention how Modest is notable for that high chance to OHKO Ground- and Dragon-types mentioned earlier with HP Ice while Timid no longer has that edge.
-Focus Sash is an alternative that gives Volcarona a chance to set up an extra turn if there's no fear of priority picking it off later. And lets you effectively scout for potential Landorus-T with Choice Scarf due to that nice 100 base Speed.
Set Details needs to mention why Flame Body is preferred over Swarm, maybe talk about the chance to burn Parental Bond Kangaskhan and physical attackers such as Azumarill, Gyarados, and Mega Mawile (+2 Sucker) is really nice.

Usage Tips
========

-If Volcarona tries to set up early, be sure that its teammates can clean up in case it can't finish the job. (Cool if you can provide an example.)
-Lum Berry makes it easier for Volcarona to set up against Pokemon who can only threaten with status, so don't hesitate to set up further against opponents that can't do much immediate damage such as Cresselia and Ferrothorn.
-Bug Buzz should only be used against foes that are weak to Bug or resist Fire. (An example or two are always nice.)

Team Options
========

-Mega Kangaskhan appreciates Volcarona's ability to beat Steel-types such as Mega Mawile and Ferrothorn (Cresselia and Mega Sableye) while breaking down walls to let Volcarona sweep more easily.
-Stealth Rock gives Volcarona an easier time sweeping, making it easier to OHKO threats such as Mega Kangaskhan, Zapdos and bulkier Thundurus at +1.
Stealth Rock also guarantees you to OHKO Aegislash with Fire Blast (pretty important, instead of having to rely on that 40 odd percent).
-Ferrothorn in particular offers Stealth Rock support and a sturdy Rock-type switch-in for Volcarona.
Paralysis support via Thunder Wave is also appreciated. Have Ferrothorn with Focus Sash and let Volcarona take Lum, set up rocks or explode on something to allow Volcarona a free turn at set up.
-Cresselia can switch into most physical attackers that threaten Volcarona (such as Mega Kangaskhan), and deals with Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Mega Salamence for variants that lack Hidden Power Ice.
-Electric-types make fantastic teammates. They have fly spam control, is able to cripple things with Thunder Wave, while can threaten nearly every Water-type out with their powerful STAB moves. Examples: Thundurus (#5 PGL), Raikou (Dual Screener), Zapdos (physically defensive Helmet).
-Finally
, Cloyster (from GateCreeper's teambuilding post) is able to to pressure common Stealth Rock and can easily set up on most of them. Having a physical sweeper is always nice in general to go with the special sweeper (if that makes sense).

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options

-Hidden Power Ground for Heatran (see my Set comments above on how Bug Buzz + HP Ground is really nice for Cresselia + Heatran core).
Worth a mention:
-Hidden Power Rock allows you to OHKO offensive Talonflame, potentially get a QD up on Mega Charizard Y and beat it, but unfortunately you lose out on Speed tying with the base 100's due to HP power mechanics.
-Substitute provides further safety net against status inducers, it allows you to set up on Cresselia and even Porygon2. Getting a sub up makes Volcarona harder to revenge kill if you predict an obvious switch, such as Ferrothorn.

-Overheat for last-ditch nukes
Look at all these potential OHKOs is capable of: 75% for Mega Gengar and Aegislash 87.5% to OHKO Thundurus.
Note also how with a Choice Scarf equipped (an alarming 10.3% on PGL), you can even surprise OHKO threats such as Scarf Hydreigon, and Serperior (before it can Glare you).
Fiery Dance should be used over Quiver Dance since it has that really awesome 50% chance to raise Special Attack.

-Psychic for Blaziken (OHKOs at +0), but less chance for Mega variants (43.8%).
Leaving Roost and Swarm for second QC (aka Hula Hoopa Danganronpa) because I don't have experience using these.
-Life Orb is nice also, to increase damage output if you opt for Timid nature.

Checks and Counters
===================

Although slightly uncommon, you can mention Entei under Fire-types, since the AV set is a thing (on its analysis).
-However, if Volcarona finds enough turns to set up with Quiver Dance then Volcarona can risk overpowering Chansey even if it gets hit by Toxic in the process.
I disagree, even with a Lum Berry/sub. But let's see what others have to say.

**Dragon-types**: Thanks to Multiscale, Dragonite can take Volcarona with a combination of Dragon Claw and Extreme Speed, or go for the OHKO with Outrage (75%). Garchomp outspeeds Volcarona, commonly seen with Scarf and Sash, and can easily threaten it with its Rock-type move of choice. You can just mention Mega Charizard Y under Fire-types and move Mega Charizard X down here.

HP Ground was actually originally slashed but I had removed it since I was only thinking about hitting Heatran, though I guess Blaziken and other grounded Fire-types are also worth hitting even though it's still risky due to Speed tie potential. I don't want to remove Giga Drain in the final slash completely though because I think dual STAB + Giga Drain is fine for hitting Azumarill and Water-types in general harder (which is also a preference of mine).

Also completely forgot to mention Flame Body in Set Details, knew I was missing something there.

SR doesn't actually guaranteed the OHKO on Aegislash with Fire Blast and you OHKO after boosts anyway, but I am talking about making them "easier" to KO rather than guaranteeing so that's easy to add. I'm not entirely convinced Twave support is that significant for Volcarona for similar reasons so I'd like other opinions on that too. Cloyster already had a mention under Water-types so I got you covered there, might mention specifically the double setup sweeper combination when writing it up though.

I personally dislike HP Rock Volcarona and Scarf but they at least have the usage/merit to justify them. Life Orb and Substitute are also incredibly uncommon but I think they're definitely worth the mention.

Otherwise this is all added so this is ready for the second QC check whenever. No rush though.

Double posting but I forgot that I never actually wrote this up, oops. This is written up now so it's ready for QC for real now. Hulavuta you said you wanted to check this so here you go, unless someone else wants to snipe this from him I guess.

Since apparently Hula wants to I won't do a full check just mention a few things.

In the checks and counters I would mention Stealth Rock in the Rock-type moves since it makes it much harder for Volc to set up.

I would also add a section for priority moves since they do a lot of damage to Volc (besides M Luc's Vacuum Wave) and emphasize Talonflame as what is probably Volc's best check/counter.

Flame Body is the preferred ability as it allows Volcarona to punish physical attackers that make contact with it, potentially crippling a dangerous threat such as Mega Kangaskhan or Mega Salamence as it goes down to give its teammates an easier time cleaning afterwards.

Team Options

Mega Salamence creates an aggressive pair of setup sweepers with Volcarona that boasts great defensive synergy. Mega Salamence beats most Fire-types and Belly Drum Azumarill for Volcarona while appreciating the latter's ability to switch into Ice Beams and Fairy-types. Intimidate from Salamence pre-Mega also helps Volcarona against physical attackers.

Swarm pairs well with Focus Sash for boosted Bug Buzz hits after taking an otherwise lethal hit, which provides a more powerful and accurate alternative to Fire Blast when in Swarm range. Maybe mention that a +1 Swarm boosted Bug Buzz almost always ohkos Kangaskhan, and Sucker Punch often puts you into Swarm range Hidden Power Rock hits Talonflame on the switch and prevents Mega Charizard Y from walling Volcarona, though it has no real advantages otherwise and requires Focus Sash to beat Talonflame reliably. Psychic can be used to hit Blaziken, though it needs boosts to reliably OHKO Mega Blaziken and has no other targets. Substitute can punish switches and create extra turns for Volcarona to set up, though this means Volcarona is easier to wall since this gives up coverage.

Volcarona can run a Choice Scarf set with Fiery Dance, which allows it to function as a dedicated revenge killer and late-game cleaner thanks to Volcarona's high Special Attack and solid base 100 Speed for a Choice Scarf user. Also consider mentioning Fiery Dance on the QD set Overheat can be used as a last resort attack alongside Fire Blast or Flamethrower and fits well on a Choice Scarf set, securing OHKOs on Mega Gengar, Thundurus, and Aegislash. Life Orb can give Volcarona a noticeable power boost if you're running a Timid nature or if the buffer against status isn't desired, though Volcarona hits very hard without the boost so it doesn't always need the extra power. Roost is also an option on a Life Orb set and provides longevity; it also opens up the possibility of a bulkier Volcarona, though as a sweeper with common weaknesses it isn't easy to find opportunities to make use of a bulkier Volcarona.
Consider specifically talking about a more physically defensive set with bold (~7% usage)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physical Attackers**: Volcarona is physically frail, so strong physical attacks from physical attackers such as Garchomp, Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Salamence, will easily KO it. However, Flame Body risks crippling many physical attackers so even if Volcarona goes down, the burn can be more detrimental for the foe than Volcarona itself going down.

**Priority Moves**: Volcarona's poor physical bulk makes it susceptible to being revenged killed by priority moves from physical attackers such as Talonflame, Mega Mawile, and Azumarill Kang and Dragonite could be added. Talonflame in particular resists both of Volcarona's STAB moves and can easily OHKO it with Gale Wings Brave Bird, while being immune to burns due to its typing.

Landorus-T, Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Hippowdon all usually carry Rock-type moves as well so they can threaten Volcarona and prevent it from setting up. Stealth Rock is another huge issue since Volcarona loses half of its HP when coming in, making it far more difficult for Volcarona to set up. Common Rock-type moves also don't make contact so they don't even fear Flame Body burns punishing them.

However, Blaziken and Heatran must be wary of the occasional Psychic and Hidden Power Ground, respectively.

**Water-types**: Water-types such as Gyarados and Suicune don't mind Fire Blast and the former resists Bug Buzz as well, while threatening to KO it with their respective Water-type moves. However, Gyarados must be wary of being burned by Flame Body. Other Water-types such as Rotom-W and Greninja also threaten Volcarona, though if it manages to get enough Special Defense just say boosts in general since the speed boosts are more important than the Special Defense when facing Greninja boosts then it doesn't mind them as much, while also threatening them with Bug Buzz or Giga Drain.

**Dragon-types**: Volcarona can't touch most Dragon-types if it lacks Hidden Power Ice, so Garchomp, Mega Salamence, Mega Charizard X, and Dragonite can comfortably set up or outright KO it due to its low Defense. Mega Charizard X in particular is threatening since it resists all of Volcarona's moves aside from Hidden Power Ground, and it can avoid Mega Evolving to maintain an immunity to Ground, while also being immune to burns from Flame Body. Dragonite can also survive a boosted HP Ice due to Multiscale and isn't hindered by Flame Body burns when using Lum Berry.

**Chansey**: Volcarona struggles against Chansey due to its monstrous Special Defense. Even with a Lum Berry, Chansey can continue to use Toxic against Volcarona and stall it with Softboiled. However, using Seismic Toss can result in Chansey being burned which can wear it down enough for a partner to finish it off, so being too careless against Volcarona can put Chansey in a tough spot.

Alright, this is done. HP Ice doesn't actually need the EV change to avoid wasting EVs, I made that same mistake when I wrote Roserade but if you meant HP Ground I hadn't mentioned that one so I've made sure to note that. The ability to 1v1 Water-types with Giga Drain also felt a little redundant but aside from that I've made all of those changes. No official 2/2 so I'll wait and see if you have anything more to say just in case, otherwise I'll send this to GP as soon as possible.

[OVERVIEW]

Volcarona stands out as a powerful special attacker in a format dominated by physical attackers, boasting a unique offensive typing that lets it threaten a wide variety of threats, such as Cresselia, Aegislash, Mega Mawile, Ferrothorn, Hydreigon, and Slowbro, with its STAB moves, including Cresselia, Aegislash, Mega Mawile, Ferrothorn, Hydreigon, and Slowbro. Volcarona's naturally high Special Attack and Speed along with access to Quiver Dance make it an effective sweeper, which is made more dangerous with the fact that most walls are physically defensive rather than specially defensive. Flame Body also (you don't mention anything about a quality of Volcarona that lets it do something, so no need for "also") lets Volcarona punish physical attackers that do manage to take it down using contact moves, potentially crippling a physical attacker trying to hit its weaker Defense stat. However, this frailty makes it difficult for Volcarona to find setup opportunities against physical attackers, and weaknesses to common types such as Rock, Flying, and Water limits the amount of Pokemon that Volcarona can set up on and allows it to be more easily revenge killed. Furthermore, Bug / Fire typing leaves it is (typing isn't necessarily walled) walled by many top threats such as Mega Salamence, Talonflame, Blaziken, Heatran, and Azumarill, forcing it to pick what it can and can't beat with its coverage slot.

Moves
========

Quiver Dance lets Volcarona function as an effective setup sweeper thanks to its solid base 100 Speed and naturally high Special Attack and Speed. Fire Blast is Volcarona's strongest STAB move and has great neutral coverage, which is important to guarantee the OHKO after a boost against threats such as standard (reader won't know what the standard set is) Landorus-T and Thundurus after a boost. Flamethrower gives up some of Fire Blast's power for accuracy, but notably misses out on the guaranteed OHKO against Landorus-T after a boost. Bug Buzz is Volcarona's secondary STAB move which lets it hit the Dragon-, Water- and Rock-types that resist Fire-type moves. Notably, this is Volcarona's best move for hitting Cresselia, Hydreigon, and Tyranitar. Giga Drain is an alternative if the Bug-type coverage isn't necessary, hitting Water-types such as Rotom-W and Suicune harder than Bug Buzz, while preventing Azumarill from walling Volcarona and getting a free Belly Drum against it. The recovery it offers is also useful for keeping Volcarona healthy while it sweeps. However, running both Bug Buzz and Giga Drain is viable as well. Hidden Power Ice is preferred in the last slot to hit Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and Landorus-T, which notably allows Volcarona to more comfortably opt for Flamethrower since it no longer needs Fire Blast to OHKO Landorus-T. Hidden Power Ground is an alternative that hits Fire-types which would otherwise wall Volcarona such as Heatran, Blaziken, and Entei which otherwise wall Volcarona, though it's reliant on getting boosts to secure OHKOs against them.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment maximizes Volcarona's damage output while ensuring that it's as fast as possible, outspeeding Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T after one Quiver Dance. Modest is preferred to boost Volcarona's power further since Quiver Dance boosts are enough to let it afford the Speed drop, and the Speed boost from Timid isn't as useful. This also lets it OHKO Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Mega Salamence, (AC) with Hidden Power Ice on the switch without needing to boost. Modest is also preferred if you're running Flamethrower over Fire Blast. Timid is typically inferior to Modest but lets it Speed tie with Mega Kangaskhan before boosts as well as outspeed Jolly Scarf Excadrill and the occasional Jolly Scarf Landorus-T after boosts.

Lum Berry is the preferred item to prevent Toxic and Thunder Wave users such as Cresselia and Thundurus from cutting its sweep short; this also lets it function as an effective check Klefki check. Focus Sash is an alternative that gives Volcarona a chance to set up against otherwise unsafe opponents such as Hydreigon and offensive Zapdos if there's no risk of a priority user finishing it off later, and it also functions as a safety net against threats such as Jolly Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Jolly Choice Scarf Garchomp. It also functions as a buffer to survive a strong hit in case the opponent isn't KOed or if it's met by a faster revenge killer such as Jolly Scarf Landorus-T or Sand Rush Excadrill under Sandstorm. Flame Body is the preferred ability as it allows Volcarona to punish physical attackers that make contact with it, potentially crippling a dangerous threat such as Mega Kangaskhan or Mega Salamence as it goes down, (AC) to give its teammates an easier time cleaning afterwards.

Usage Tips
========

Volcarona's goal is to sweep so it'll usually be brought in after an opponent has been KOed or switched into something that can't hurt it much, such as Ferrothorn or Cresselia. Lum Berry makes it easier for Volcarona to set up against Pokemon who that can only threaten with status, so don't hesitate to set up against opponents that can't do much immediate damage such as Cresselia and Ferrothorn.

Volcarona has very troubling matchups depending on its coverage move, but generally Volcarona should avoid setting up if the opponent has a Fire-type since it can't hit most of them without Hidden Power Ground. Fire Blast is the move Volcarona should be using most of the time due to its huge power even without boosts; if you're running Flamethrower instead, this is still the preferred STAB due to the superior coverage over Bug Buzz or its coverage moves. Bug Buzz should generally only be used against weakened foes and Pokemon that are weak to Bug or resist Fire such as Hydreigon, Suicune, and Tyranitar. Otherwise it shouldn't be used unless missing Fire Blast is a big risk; even if Bug Buzz doesn't KO, (AC) the guaranteed damage can be more important, especially if a partner can pick off the foe afterwards.

Team Options
========

Mega Salamence creates an aggressive setup sweeper pair of setup sweepers with Volcarona that boasts great defensive synergy. Mega Salamence beats most Fire-types and Belly Drum Azumarill for Volcarona while appreciating the latter's ability Volcarona's ability to switch into Ice Beams and Fairy-types. Intimidate from Salamence pre-Mega also helps Volcarona against physical attackers. Cresselia can switch into most physical attackers that threaten Volcarona such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Blaziken, while notably dealing with Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Mega Salamence for variants that lack Hidden Power Ice. Cresselia also has Lunar Dance which can give Volcarona a second chance to sweep.

Stealth Rock gives Volcarona an easier time sweeping, making it easier to OHKO threats such as Aegislash in Shield forme before boosts, (AC) as well as Mega Kangaskhan, Zapdos, and bulkier Thundurus at +1. It also cripples Talonflame which completely stops Volcarona. Garchomp, Hippowdon, Landorus-T, and Mamoswine are all effective partners that can offer this support while being able to check Talonflame and other Fire-types to varying degrees. Hippowdon in particular can put foes to sleep with Yawn, which can help Volcarona set up. Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, Serperior, (AC) and Breloom deal with Water-types that give Volcarona trouble if it lacks Giga Drain. Ferrothorn in particular offers Stealth Rock support and a sturdy Rock-type switch-in for Volcarona. However, all of these are threatened by Fire-types which Volcarona struggles against as well. Water-types such as Rotom-W, Greninja, Azumarill, Suicune, Cloyster, and Gyarados threaten the Fire- and Rock-types that threaten Volcarona.

Psychic can be used to hit Blaziken, though it needs boosts to reliably OHKO Mega Blaziken and doesn't hit much beyond that. Substitute can punish switches switch-ins and create extra turns for Volcarona to set up, though this means Volcarona is easier to wall since this gives up coverage.

Volcarona can run a Choice Scarf set with Fiery Dance, which allows it to function as a dedicated revenge killer and late-game cleaner thanks to Volcarona's high Special Attack and solid base 100 Speed for a Choice Scarf user. Fiery Dance can also be used on a Quiver Dance set for the chance to accumulate boosts while sweeping, though the lower power than Flamethrower can be problematic. Overheat can be used as a last resort attack alongside Fire Blast or Flamethrower and fits well on a Choice Scarf set, securing OHKOs on Mega Gengar, Thundurus, and Aegislash. Life Orb can give Volcarona a noticeable power boost if you're running a Timid nature or if the buffer against status isn't desired, though Volcarona hits very hard without the boost so it doesn't always need the extra power. Roost is also an option on a Life Orb set and provides longevity; it also opens up the possibility of a bulky physically defensive Volcarona with a Bold nature, though as a sweeper with common weaknesses it isn't easy to find opportunities to make use of a bulky Volcarona.

Thanks for the comments! Made all of those changes and fixes, except I didn't remove "for" in "...and Mega Salamence for variants that lack Hidden Power Ice" since that makes it sound like Cresselia deals with Mega Salamence that lack HP Ice. I did change that to "for Volcarona lacking Hidden Power Ice" instead though, since that's probably more clear.

Volcarona's goal is to sweep so it'll usually be brought in after an opponent teammate (I assume this is what you meant?

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physical Attackers**: Volcarona is physically frail, so strong physical attacks from physical attackers such as Garchomp, Mega Kangaskhan, and Mega Salamence will easily KO it. However, Flame Body risks crippling many physical attackers so even if Volcarona goes down, the burn can be more detrimental for the foe than Volcarona itself going down.

**Priority Moves**: Volcarona's poor physical bulk makes it susceptible to being revenged killed by priority moves from physical attackers such as Talonflame, Mega Mawile, Mega Kangaskhan, Dragonite, and Azumarill. Talonflame in particular resists both of Volcarona's STAB moves and can easily OHKO it with Gale Wings Brave Bird, while being immune to burns due to its typing.

However, Blaziken and Heatran must be wary of the occasional Psychic and or Hidden Power Ground, respectively.

**Water-types**: Water-types such as Gyarados and Suicune don't mind Fire Blast and the former resists Bug Buzz as well, while threatening to KO it with their respective Water-type moves. However, Gyarados must be wary of being getting burned by Flame Body. Other Water-types such as Rotom-W and Greninja also threaten Volcarona, though if it Volcarona manages to get enough boosts then it doesn't mind them as much, while also and can threatening them with Bug Buzz or Giga Drain.

**Dragon-types**: Volcarona can't touch most Dragon-types if it lacks Hidden Power Ice, so Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and Mega Charizard X can comfortably set up on or outright KO it due to its low Defense. Mega Charizard X in particular is threatening since because it resists all of Volcarona's moves aside from Hidden Power Ground, and it can avoid Mega Evolving to maintain an immunity to Ground, while also being immune to burns from Flame Body.

**Chansey**: Volcarona struggles against Chansey due to its monstrous Special Defense. Even with a Lum Berry, Chansey can continue to use Toxic against Volcarona and stall it out with Softboiled. However, using Seismic Toss can result in Chansey being burned which can wear it down enough for a partner to finish it off, so being too careless against Volcarona can put Chansey in a tough spot.

Good job!

Alright, made most of the above changes. I'm not so sure about Hidden Power Ground needing "a boost" since that phrasing implies it only needs 1 Quiver Dance, but it needs 2 to actually OHKO Blaziken and Entei so I've changed that to "Volcarona needs multiple boosts in order to OHKO the latter two."

Also not sure about the change in the Focus Sash sentence since that kinda implies that Volcarona is the buffer when Focus Sash is, but I realized that sentence is actually kinda redundant after the previous one so I just removed it. Thanks again though!

[OVERVIEW]

Volcarona stands out as a powerful special attacker in a format dominated by physical attackers, boasting a unique offensive typing that lets it threaten a wide variety of threats, such as Cresselia, Aegislash, Mega Mawile, Ferrothorn, Hydreigon, and Slowbro, with its STAB moves. Volcarona's naturally high Special Attack and Speed along with access to Quiver Dance make it an effective sweeper, which that is made more dangerous with the fact that most walls are physically defensive rather than specially defensive. Flame Body lets Volcarona punish physical attackers that manage to take it down using contact moves, potentially crippling a physical attacker foe (repetition) trying to hit its weaker Defense stat. However, this frailty makes it difficult for Volcarona to find setup opportunities against physical attackers, and weaknesses to common types such as Rock, Flying, and Water limit the amount number of Pokemon that Volcarona can set up on and allows it to be more easily revenge killed. Furthermore, Volcarona's Bug / Fire typing leaves it walled by many top threats such as Mega Salamence, Talonflame, Blaziken, Heatran, and Azumarill, forcing it to pick what it can and can't beat with its coverage slot.

Moves
========

Flamethrower gives up some of Fire Blast's power for accuracy, but notably misses missing out on the guaranteed OHKO against Landorus-T after a Quiver Dance. Bug Buzz is Volcarona's secondary STAB move which and lets it hit the Dragon-, Water- and Rock-types that resist Fire-type moves. Notably, this is Volcarona's best move for hitting Cresselia, Hydreigon, and Tyranitar. Giga Drain is an alternative if the Bug-type coverage isn't necessary, hitting Water-types such as Rotom-W and Suicune harder than Bug Buzz (RC) while preventing Azumarill from walling Volcarona and getting a free Belly Drum against it. The recovery it offers is also useful for keeping Volcarona healthy while it sweeps. However, running both Bug Buzz and Giga Drain is viable as well. Hidden Power Ice is preferred in the last slot to hit Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and Landorus-T, which notably allows Volcarona to more comfortably opt for Flamethrower since it no longer needs Fire Blast to OHKO Landorus-T the latter. Hidden Power Ground is an alternative that hits Fire-types which that would otherwise wall Volcarona, such as Heatran, Blaziken, and Entei, though Volcarona needs multiple boosts in order to OHKO the latter two.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment maximizes Volcarona's damage output while ensuring that it's as fast as possible, outspeeding Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T after one Quiver Dance. Timid is typically inferior to Modest but lets it Volcarona Speed tie with Mega Kangaskhan before boosting as well as outspeed Jolly Choice Scarf Excadrill and the occasional Jolly Choice Scarf Landorus-T after boosts.

Lum Berry is the preferred item to prevent Toxic and Thunder Wave users such as Cresselia and Thundurus from cutting Volcarona's sweep short; this also lets it function as an effective Klefki check. Focus Sash is an alternative that gives Volcarona a chance to set up against otherwise unsafe opponents foes such as Hydreigon and offensive Zapdos if there's no risk of a priority user finishing it off later, and it also functions as a safety net against threats such as Jolly Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Jolly Choice Scarf Garchomp. Flame Body is the preferred ability because it allows Volcarona to punish physical attackers that make contact with it, potentially crippling a dangerous threat such as Mega Kangaskhan or Mega Salamence as it goes down, which can give its teammates an easier time cleaning afterwards.

Usage Tips
========

Volcarona's goal is to sweep, (AC) so it'll usually be brought in after a teammate has been KOed or switched into something that can't hurt it much, such as Ferrothorn or Cresselia. Lum Berry makes it easier for Volcarona to set up against Pokemon that can only threaten it with status, so don't hesitate to set up against opponents foes that can't do much immediate damage such as Cresselia and Ferrothorn.

Volcarona has very troubling matchups depending on its coverage move, but generally Volcarona it should avoid setting up if the opponent has a Fire-type, (AC) since it can't hit most of them without Hidden Power Ground. Fire Blast is the move Volcarona should be using most of the time due to its huge power even without boosts; if you're running Flamethrower instead, this is still the preferred STAB move due to the superior coverage over Bug Buzz or its coverage moves. Bug Buzz should generally only be used against weakened foes and Pokemon that are weak to Bug and resist Fire such as Hydreigon, Suicune, and Tyranitar. (Suicune isn't weak to Bug) Otherwise, (AC) it shouldn't be used unless missing Fire Blast is a big risk; even if Bug Buzz doesn't KO, the guaranteed damage can be more important, especially if a partner can pick off the foe afterwards.

Team Options
========

Mega Salamence creates an aggressive setup sweeper pair with Volcarona that boasts great defensive synergy, (comma) Mega Salamence beats beating most Fire-types and Belly Drum Azumarill for Volcarona while appreciating Volcarona's ability to switch into Ice Beam and Fairy-types. Intimidate from Salamence pre-Mega also helps Volcarona against physical attackers. Cresselia also has Lunar Dance, (AC) which can give Volcarona a second chance to sweep.

Stealth Rock gives Volcarona an easier time sweeping, making it easier giving it a greater chance (less repetitive) to OHKO threats such as Aegislash in Shield forme before boosts, as well as Mega Kangaskhan, Zapdos, and bulkier Thundurus at +1. Stealth Rock also cripples Talonflame, which completely stops Volcarona. Garchomp, Hippowdon, Landorus-T, and Mamoswine are all effective partners that can offer this support while being able to check Talonflame and other Fire-types to varying degrees. Hippowdon in particular can put foes to sleep with Yawn, which can help Volcarona set up. Water-types such as Rotom-W, Greninja, Azumarill, Suicune, Cloyster, and Gyarados threaten the Fire- and Rock-types that threaten Volcarona.

Swarm pairs well with Focus Sash to produce boosted Bug Buzz's power attacks after taking an otherwise lethal hit, which provides a more powerful and accurate alternative to Fire Blast when in Swarm range. Notably, a +1 Swarm-boosted Bug Buzz will almost always OHKO standard Mega Kangaskhan, while Sucker Punch from Adamant Mega Kangaskhan will usually put Volcarona in Swarm range. Substitute can punish switch-ins and create extra turns for Volcarona to set up, though this means Volcarona is easier to wall since because this gives up coverage.

Overheat can be used as a last-resort (AH) attack alongside Fire Blast or Flamethrower and fits well on a Choice Scarf set, securing OHKOs on Mega Gengar, Thundurus, and Aegislash. Life Orb can give Volcarona a noticeable power boost if you're running a Timid nature or if the buffer against status isn't desired, though Volcarona hits very hard even without the boost anyway so it doesn't always need the extra power. Roost is also an option on a Life Orb set and provides longevity; it also opens up the possibility of a bulky physically defensive Volcarona with a Bold nature, though as a sweeper with common weaknesses it isn't easy to find opportunities to make use of a bulky Volcarona.

Alright, done. The "weak to Bug and resist Fire" bit had an "or" instead of an "and" before, guess I changed that without reading the sentence, oops. Fixed though, thanks!

Stealth Rock is another huge issue, since Volcarona loses half of its HP when coming in switching into it, making it far more difficult for Volcarona to set up. Common Rock-type moves also don't make contact, so they foes don't even fear Flame Body burns punishing them.

**Water-types**: Water-types such as Gyarados and Suicune don't mind Fire Blast, and the former resists Bug Buzz as well, while threatening to KO it with their respective Water-type moves; the former resists Bug Buzz as well. (I know the change here could be better b/c there are now two consecutive contrasting statements about Gyarados in two separate sentences. However, the original doesn't flow correctly at all. You're free to fix it up however you like.) However, Gyarados must be wary of getting burned by Flame Body. Other Water-types such as Rotom-W and Greninja also threaten Volcarona, though if Volcarona manages to get enough boosts, (AC) then it doesn't mind them as much, (RC) and can threaten them with Bug Buzz or Giga Drain.

**Dragon-types**: Volcarona can't touch most Dragon-types if it lacks Hidden Power Ice, so Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and Mega Charizard X can comfortably set up on or outright KO it due to its low Defense. Mega Charizard X in particular is threatening because it resists all of Volcarona's moves aside from Hidden Power Ground, and it can avoid Mega Evolving to maintain an immunity to Ground while also being immune to burns from Flame Body.

**Chansey**: Volcarona struggles against Chansey due to its monstrous Special Defense. Even with a Lum Berry, Chansey can continue to use Toxic against Volcarona and stall it out with Soft-Boiled. However, using Seismic Toss can result in Chansey being burned, (AC) which can wear it down enough for a partner to finish it off, so being too careless against Volcarona can put Chansey in a tough spot.

Thanks! For the Gyarados bit I changed it to "Water-types such as Gyarados and Suicune don't mind Fire Blast while threatening to KO Volcarona with their respective Water-type moves; the former resists Bug Buzz as well, though it must be wary of getting burned by Flame Body."

If that's all good then Volcarona is done.

I changed the above line to "while also threatening" because I just think it reads a little bit better.

But with that, this is now uploaded!
