SM OU Voters' Mistake: Got reqs with 1572 ELO, 83.6% GXE, 2709 COIL, 45/11 Record

Voters' Mistake
Hi.

I'm here today to share a team imsosorrylol and I built together (he's the main builder).

This team was built specifically for the Genesect suspect and it has been absolutely fantastic. Like the title says, I got my first reqs with this team in the latest suspect, despite being a world class choker and average player. As we both wanted Gene to stay, we were really disappointed in the results and that's how the title was derived.

Proof of Reqs:

Teambuilding Process

We started off with a double set-up core of Rockium Z Lando-T and CM Lele because we found them really effective in the non-Genesect metagame and we love these things. They beat each others' checks and counters too which is nice.

At that point in time, both of us were obsessed with the defensive utility of Amoonguss. Hence, we added it in with the intention to check Tapu Fini, Tapu Bulu, Tapu Koko, Pheromosa, Ash-Greninja and Kartana.

Mega Metagross was next as we needed a Tapu Lele check that wasn't too passive.

Our team was rather slow so we needed speed control. Scarf Keldeo was a good fit as it can act as a secondary check to Ash-Greninja and check Mega Gyarados too which otherwise 6-0s this team. It also outspeeds and revenge-kills big threats such as Mega Alakazam.

Heatran was the last pick, mainly for Rocks and a second Tapu Lele check.

The Team

Landorus-Therian @ Rockium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Atk / 88 Def / 28 SpD / 108 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Rock Polish

I am regal.

This set was recommended by sorry. A bulkier spread of 252 HP / 32 Atk / 88 Def / 28 SpD / 108 Spe with an Adamant nature was chosen to make setting up easier at the cost of some firepower. The Special Defense investment allows Landorus-T to take one Draco Meteor from Life Orb Latios or two Dazzling Gleams from Life Orb Tapu Koko, while the Speed investment lets it outrun most bulky Mew and Jirachi variants and is also a benchmark that extends to Jolly Tyranitar and neutral-natured base 70s. I prefer Continental Crush far more than Supersonic Skystrike in general and this team doesn't have a Magnezone anyway which explains our choice for the Rockium Z. Even with fewer Attack EVs, it still gets good damage on Skarmory and Rotom-W.

sorry got the Landorus-T spread from here: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/landorus-t.3588477/

Here are some calcs:
+2 32+ Atk Landorus-Therian Continental Crush vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 227-268 (67.9 - 80.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 32+ Atk Landorus-Therian Continental Crush vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-Wash: 275-324 (90.7 - 106.9%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

Tapu Lele @ Mind Plate
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Moonblast

Pink Power!

People really sleep on this thing. This is the main wallbreaker and is used to break down fat cores while doing so with relative ease. Mind Plate often takes people by surprise and before they know it Lele is already ploughing through their team like locusts on crops. It complements Lando-T really well, pressuring teams with set-up moves. It's just so hard to stop this pair.

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Clear Smog
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Spore

Meat balls? Mushroom balls!

Amoonguss is just incredible in this metagame, checking a myriad of threats in the metagame such as: Tapu Koko, Pheromosa, Ash-Greninja, Tapu Fini and Kartana. Max SpDef is important to tank hits better from Ash-Greninja and Electric types - the main things it needs to check. HP Fire is more important than Sludge Bomb to hit Kartana.

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Meteor Mash
- Ice Punch
- Bullet Punch

I am the meta.

With Fairies and Tapus going wild, Mega Metagross is a really good pick, outspeeding most of them and dealing heavy damage with Tough Claws Meteor Mash. Earthquake is there for Heatran and opposing Metagross while Ice Punch is pretty much Mandatory to hit the likes of Lando-T and Garchomp. Bullet Punch is for Mega Alakazam which still remains a big threat to my team.

Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Justice prevails!

This is a pretty standard Keldeo set in the current metagame (but somehow people never expect HP Electric). Outspeeding the entire unboosted metagame with a Choice Scarf equipped and boasting respectable natural bulk, Keldeo is a great revenge killer for the team. It also gives us a Fire resist at last.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Taunt
- Earth Power

Melting them foes.

Heatran just can't fall out of the metagame. Boasting 9 resistances and 2 immunities with good STABs and great stats, it's such a fantastic mon all-around. It can switch into Ferrothorns, most Mega Venusaurs and the occasional Lele. We didn't find a point luring bulky Waters so we just went with its Utility set. Lefties are so good for it anyway.

Weaknesses

Duggy: It's super annoying to face, trapping important things like Heatran and Lele. Against Duggy Stall I will have to sack Lele to kill something + bring Duggy to 1HP, then Lando-T can clean up unless they have a Quagsire or Dugtrio.

Trick Room: Maybe it's my problem but Trick Room annihilates this team.

Protean Greninja: Its coverage, power and speed is just too much for my team to handle. Keldeo can try to revenge kill it I guess.

Mega Alakazam: Outspeeds 5 mons and does incredible damage to all. Really hard to switch into.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7pokebankoususpecttest-511464218 - won vs the stall lord playerW17 (Shed Stall) (he sniped me on ladder) (it's worth noting that we are good friends so I was really confident with the plays) (proof that it's him: http://www.smogon.com/forums/thread...r-identification-thread.3591184/#post-7161398)

This is a really solid build, not much to change here. Have you guys ever considered Toxic over Taunt on Heatran though? Toxic Heatran is a really useful way of dealing with some of Keldeo and Metagross' checks, especially Mantine, which I feel can be pretty annoying since both of your current water resists would hate getting burned. Replacing Taunt with Toxic also considerably improves your matchup against SubCoil Zygarde since Landorus-T doesn't appreciate switching in constantly, neither does Metagross or Tapu Lele.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Earth Power

Nice team man!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely try it out. My only concern is Tapu Fini, though, as I hate having it remove my Rocks every single time.

Hey Tinberz. This isn't really a rate, just wanted to share my experience using this team. I was scrolling through smogon looking for teams and this looked super solid, thus I decided to use it on ladder. I only made 1 minor change which was thunder>ice punch on metagross to get past skarmory, mantine and celesteela. Surprisingly, I was able to use this team quite effectively, as I reached rank #12 and 1759 elo earlier today. Great team and keep up the good work!

I cannot figure out why the opponent withdrew Mimikyu on turn 11. It looks like if they SD instead they easily sweep your team? I run Mimikyu and that's close to the dream scenario.
