What is the pattern with these Pokemon?

A friend found this printout at his law firm, and we cannot for the life of us find out what the pattern here is, or what all the Pokemon have in common. If there is a pattern, I'm guessing it's obscure, but I figure there's no place better to crack this than Smogon.

It's a weird alphabetical order pattern - looks like an M on its side. It goes:

Basculin > Beartic > Braviary > Charmeleon > Clamperl > Clefable > Combusken > Croagunk > Crustle > Cubone > Diglett > Drilbur > Dwebble > Eelektrik > Eevee > Exeggcute

I was hoping it'd be more elegant than that! Who randomly reverses alphabetical order halfway down the list?
