--

Legal Pokedex submissions must meet the following standards:
  • Species Names cannot be over 13 characters.
  • The submitter must show they have made a best effort to write flawless grammar. The CAP mod team will make an effort to correct all unambiguous issues when the thread is closed, but you should not rely on this.
  • Pokedex Entries cannot be longer than 30 words and cannot be over 153 characters (this includes spaces and punctuation).
  • Pokedex Entries can only contain the following characters:
    • Letters A-Z
    • Numbers 0-9
    • Dash (-)
    • Apostrophe (')
    • Double quote (")
    • Period (.)
    • Exclamation point (!)
    • Comma (,)
    • Colon (:)
    • Semi-colon (;)
    • Space
Work In Progress (WIP) Pokedex Entries can be posted at any time for comments from the community.

No more than three WIP Pokedex Entries can be posted by any individual person through the entire course of the submission thread. This limit applies to ALL posts made by a single person, even if previous posts are edited or deleted. This limit is intended to curb the tendency for some submitters to spam the thread repeatedly with multiple Pokedex Entries. This detracts from other submissions and makes it difficult for commenters to survey the submission thread.

Do not bump your WIP Pokedex Entries by posting them repeatedly, or making minor wording changes. Bumping will result in the disqualification of all Pokedex Entries by the offender. Editing or deleting bump posts will not prevent disqualification.

Final Submission Post

Only ONE Final Submission can be made per person.

Pokedex entries Final Submissions must posted exactly in the following format and in the following exact order:
  • The first line of the post must have the words "Final Submission" in bold on its own line. No other text may be included before the bold heading.

Chuggalong
, the Long Train Pokémon

Scarlet: Chuggalong are drawn to sounds of merriment, but their cacophonous noise and noxious fumes have a tendency to end most celebrations they join.

Violet: For decades, children have been taught to revere Chuggalong as the embodiment of hard work and perseverance.

The first entry alludes to the design's initial dragon dance origins.

The second alludes to The Little Engine that Could, which (while intended as a variation on the Good Sumaritan) ironically parallels with the same Dragon Gate myth Magikarp and Gyarados are based on.

WIP

WIP

Final Submission

Chuggalong
, The Long Ride Pokemon

Scarlet: Chuggalong will give rides to anyone it comes across. However, if the rider irritates Chuggalong, it will become enraged and let out a piercing roar.

Violet: The various scales and plates covering Chuggalong's hide clash against it when it moves. This creates a loud clanging sound which petrifies its foes.

Wanted to do some quick grammar and prose checks. I probably won't catch everything, FYI, so you should still read through anything you submit. If I didn't tag you, that's cause I didn't find anything wrong with your sub.

red = remove
blue = add

green = comments

Violet: Rather than moving on the ground, Chuggalong is able to levitate and fly around at speeds over 60 mph, sometimes piggybacked by unwanted hitchhikers.

This is a run-on sentence and also just reads very awkwardly. I would suggest splitting it up into two sentences since there are two distinct points being made. Also, using both "levitate" and "fly" like that is somewhat redundant. Something like the following could work: "Rather than moving on the ground, Chuggalong is able to fly at speeds over 60 mph. Sometimes, unwanted hitchhikers will piggyback along for the ride."

Scarlet: Legend has it that the appearance of the mighty Chuggalong brings along catastrophic storm storms with toxic clouds, followed by a great famine.

Violet: Chuggalong has been is often sighted all around the world on New Year's (add apostrophe) Days (remove "s") (I understand why you said multiple days i.e. multiple celebrations but it is still just one day and is a defined proper noun). It's believed that it likes to chase fireworks as different time zones end the year.

Scarlet: This Pokémon is often depicted in legends as a remover of the bad old times and the bringer of new and better fortunes.

This is just really awkwardly worded along with a few grammatical issues. I would suggest using some sort of metaphor instead of the word "remover". Something like "... in legends as sweeping away the bad, old times and bringing new and better fortunes."

Violet
: This Pokémon can accelerate to speeds of up to 610 (add space) kmh but and instantly drop to naught stop if an obstacle is sensed on the route. It then proceeds to spew steam.

Violet: The smoke Chuggalong emits from their blowhole has caused many passengers to seek medical help due to the smoke it (just a conciseness thing) greatly damaging their lungs.

Violet: It is featured in a popular children’s book (remove period) It is about a Chuggalong that saves the author from a wild Pokémon attack. The author died soon after from a lung disease.

WIP

Chuggalong
, the Freight Drake Pokémon

Scarlet: Chuggalong patrols its territory on a set schedule. It feeds on airborne pollutants in its path, which it churns into filthy smog.

Violet: When facing potential rivals, Chuggalong will honk and wail until they back off. Early railroads had to learn this the hard way.

Chuggalong
, the Trade Train Pokémon

Scarlet: After an ancient journey from the east, Chuggalong brought a set of wooden tablets, a sword, a vessel, and a set of beads to Paldea.

Violet: Communities used to eagerly await Chuggalong's arrival from foreign places. They would exchange treasures that bridged cultures.

WIP

Chuggalong
, the Dream Engine Pokémon

Scarlet: Its metabolism turns coal into mist. It is used as environmentally-safe transport and shares a symbiotic relationship with Rolycoly and its evolutions.

Violet: Chuggalong's smog was long thought to be toxic, but molecular analysis reveals it is actually a mist that induces pleasant dreams when inhaled.

Final Submission

Chuggalong
, the Fast Goods Pokémon

Scarlet: Chuggalong come from an island that was once linked to Wedgehurst by rail. The rolling bridge to it collapsed during a cataclysmic event a few years ago.

Violet: The main means for transporting goods across Paldea, Chuggalong fly swiftly over the region's rugged terrain, wheeshing steam loudly to warn traffic.

While the Violet entry is a more obvious one, the Scarlet entry is a subtle reference to Thomas the Tank Engine, as Barrow-in-Furness, connected to the Sodor mainline via the Vicarstown Rolling Bridge, is located in Cumbria, which the first few locations of Sword and Shield are based off (i.e Postwick, Routes 1 & 2, Wedgehurst, and the Slumbering Weald). It then becomes obvious that the island in question is a Pokémon version of Sodor that was cut off during the Darkest Day.

Chuggalong
, the Train Rex Pokémon

Scarlet: It charges into the nest of its prey, suffocating them with noisy bellowing and poisonous smog. It then returns to its tunnels with the prey on its back.

Violet: As Chuggalong ages, it is thought to grow additional segments to accommodate the powerful toxins that have built up within its scaly body.

I like the theme of the new Scarlet entry better, but the wording might need some work.

Chuggalong,
