Draft Tauros

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 3-4 points

**Overview**: Tauros is a one-dimensional but capable offensive wallbreaker, utilizing its ability Sheer Force to fire off strong attacks. Its solid Speed and good coverage allow for it to be an effective wallbreaker on teams looking for a budget offensive option. Despite this, Tauros still struggles to break through the more premier defensive Pokemon in the format. Its mediocre defenses also leave it vulnerable to Choice Scarf users, common priority attacks, and fast revenge killers. Overall, its lack of utility and role flexibility make it difficult to slot on most drafts.

Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Tauros takes advantage of Sheer Force to punch holes through teams. It relies on STAB Body Slam to hit most Pokemon hard while supplementing in coverage moves against foes that resist it.

**Cleaner**: Tauros can function as a cleaner when paired with other offensive Pokemon. It can utilize a Choice Scarf in certain matchups to threaten faster offensive Pokemon.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Body Slam, Double-Edge

**Setup Moves**: Work Up

**Utility Moves**: Substitute

**Coverage**: Close Combat, High Horsepower, Earthquake, Iron Head, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Tera Blast, Throat Chop, Trailblaze, Wild Charge, Zen Headbutt

Niche Moves
========
**Special Attacks**: Despite its weak Special Attack, Tauros can occasionally run Sheer Force-boosted special attacks such as Fire Blast and Ice Beam in order to target Pokemon with 4x weaknesses that can typically take on its physical attacks, such as Forretress and Landorus-T.

**Raging Bull**: Raging Bull, although weaker than a Sheer Force-boosted Body Slam, can be useful in matchups where Tauros may need to break dual screens.

**Facade**: Tauros can take advantage of status, especially in the case of burn from Will-O-Wisp or Flame Body, by punishing opponents with a powerful STAB Facade.

Common Items
========
**Life Orb**: Tauros should almost always use Life Orb, as it maximizes damage output when combined with Sheer Force. This pairs well with STAB Body Slam along with Tauros's other coverage moves, allowing it to fire off most attacks without taking recoil.

Niche Items
========
**Choice Scarf**: In more offensive matchups, Tauros can afford to run a Choice Scarf and function as a revenge killer to Pokemon that typically outspeed it.

**Assault Vest**: With an Assault Vest, Tauros can more comfortably switch into special Pokemon, especially Ghost-types. On pure defensive sets, this can be paired with Intimidate to give it solid mixed bulk.

Tera
========
While there are typically better options, Tauros is a good low-tier Tera Captain. In most cases, Tera Normal and Ghost are its best options, either powering up its STAB attacks to greater heights or providing a better option to hit Ghost-types while also gaining an immunity to its only weakness in Fighting. It can also opt to use Tera Electric to threaten bulky Water- and Flying-types or Tera Fire to hit Steel-types and provide an immunity to burn.

Draft Strategy
========
As a low-tier Pokemon, Tauros is eclipsed by many other offensive options. It doesn't provide much outside of its wallbreaking capabilities, and it should only be drafted by teams that need a more offensive punch and can cover its lack of defensive and support utility. It should not be one's primary offensive option, and it should not be used on hyper offensive teams where multiple Pokemon perform its role better.

**Bulky Pivots**: Due to its poor defenses, Tauros appreciates teammates that can take hits for it while also reliably giving it free switches, such as Slowking, Zapdos, and Uxie. Without effective pivots, Tauros struggles to enter the field.

**Special Attackers**: Tauros works well with special attackers such as Raging Bolt and Gholdengo that can threaten and take advantage of its physically defensive switch-ins.

**Entry Hazard Control**: Tauros can almost never afford to run Heavy-Duty Boots, making entry hazard removers like Galarian Weezing and Tsareena essential for its longevity. It also appreciates teammates that can set up entry hazards, such as Gliscor and Glimmora, to help wear down its defensive counters.

Checks and Counters
========
**Physical Walls**: Despite being its selling point, Tauros still lacks the physical power to break through physically defensive walls. Pokemon like Corviknight and Alomomola can comfortably switch into Tauros and threaten it with Rocky Helmet or even take advantage of it by pivoting out and bringing in an offensive threat.

**Entry Hazards**: Entry Hazards severely limit the amount of opportunities Tauros can get to switch in. It relies on offensive pressure and pivoting in order to break through its defensive checks, making this the easiest way to hamper its effectiveness.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Due to Tauros's mediocre defenses and lack of resistances, Pokemon that outspeed it can deal massive damage to it. Considering how easy it is for Tauros to accumulate chip damage, it is easily revenge killed by faster Pokemon.

Notes on things that I had questions on
  • Should the move Outrage be included?
  • What to do with Trailblaze? I mentioned it in discord and was told to probably put it in niche, but is it niche worthy? It’s only usable as coverage against 4x grass weak mons
  • Is curse in niche moves okay, or should it be upgraded to set up moves?

[x] However, its mediocre defenses leave it vulnerable to choice scarfers and fast revenge killers faster or choice scarfed revenge killers. Its niche role as a low tier breaker, coupled with its lack of utility, leave most teams favoring a more support or defensive option to fill in as their late round pick. [x]

space between the x's just needs to be concise with stronger wording - smth like that its lack of utility and role flexibility makes it very difficult to slot it on drafts.

Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Tauros takes advantage of its ability Sheer Force to punch holes through teams. It relies on its STAB Body Slam to hit most Pokemon hard while supplementing in coverage moves against its resists. It also functions as a late game cleaner.

**Cleaner**: mention choice scarf tauros (or just speedy tauros in general) as a means to clean up a game.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Body Slam, Double Edge, Facade, Raging Bull moving to niche

**Setup Moves**: Work Up im keeping work up on for now but idt ive seen work up tauros in my life

**Utility Moves**: Protect, Substitute

**Coverage**: Close Combat, Earthquake, Iron Head, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Tera Blast, Throat Chop, Wild Charge, Zen Headbutt

sheer force rock slide is always better than stone edge

Niche Moves
========
Special Attacks: Despite its weak special attack stat, Tauros can occasionally run sheer force boosted special attacks such as Fire Blast or Ice Beam in order to target 4x weak Pokemon who can typically take on its physical attacks, such as Forretress or Landorus-Therian. Due to its weak special attack stat, it should only be used in the case of 4x weaknesses.

**Curse**: On bulkier sets, Tauros can use Curse in order to become a set up sweeper. This will likely be paired with the move Rest to keep it healthy and give it as many set up opportunities as needed.

i just dont think this is viable

**Trailblaze**: yea i think its niche-worthy, but not rly for the reason you said, i just think it can be used to boost tauros's speed and clean at the sacrifice of the sheer force ability.

**Raging Bull**: Add that it has niche utility in breaking screens.

**Facade**: add that its good in case of getting burned by flame body guys or will-o

Common Items
========
Life Orb: Tauros should almost always use life orb, as it maximizes its damage output when combined with its Sheer Force ability. This pairs well with its STAB Body slam, along with its other coverage moves, allowing Tauros to fire off most of its attacks without taking recoil.

Niche Items
========
Choice Scarf: In more offensive matchups, Tauros can afford to run a Choice Scarf and function as a revenge killer to Pokemon that typically outspeed it.

Assault Vest: With an Assault Vest, Tauros can more comfortably switch-in to special Pokemon, in particular handling Ghost types much easier.

Tera
========
While there are typically better options, Tauros is a good low-tier Tera captain. In most cases, Tera Normal or Ghost are its best options, either powering up its STAB attacks to greater heights or providing a better option to hit ghosts while also gaining an immunity to its only weakness in Fighting. Draft Strategy

As a low-tier Pokemon, Tauros is eclipsed by many other offensive options. It doesn’t provide much outside of its wallbreaking capabilities, and should only be drafted by teams that need more offensive punch and can cover its lack of defensive or support utility. It should neither be one’s primary offensive option nor on an hyper offensive team where multiple Pokemon perform its role better.

**Bulky Pivots**: Due to its poor defenses, Tauros appreciates teammates that can take hits for it while also reliably giving it free switches, such as Slowking, Zapdos, or Uxie. Examples of this include Pokemon like Zapdos and Slowking. Without this, Tauros will struggle to make its presence. reword last sentence to say without effective pivoters, tauros will struggle to enter onto the field or smth like that "make its presence" is kinda confusing.

**Entry Hazards**: Entry Hazards like Stealth Rocks and Spikes help Tauros in wearing down its defensive counters, making it tougher for teams to switch into it. It also appreciates added Speed Control in the form of Sticky Web, in the rare instance that a teammate can provide it.

**Special Attackers**: As primarily a Physical Attacker, Tauros works well with Special Attackers that can threaten and take advantage of its Physically defensive switch-ins. Examples of this are Pokemon like such as Raging Bolt or Gholdengo.

**Entry Hazard Control**: Tauros enjoys finding as many opportunities as it can to freely switch in, which is greatly hindered by Entry Hazards. Tauros can almost never afford to run Heavy-Duty Boots, making Hazard Control essential for its longevity.

Checks and Counters
========
**Physical Walls**: Despite being its selling point, Tauros still lacks the physical power to break through Physically Defensive Walls. Pokemon like Corviknight and Alomomola can comfortably switch-in to Tauros and threaten it with Rocky Helmet or even take advantage of it by pivoting out and bringing in an offensive threat.

**Ghost-types**: bulkier ghost type pokemon like pecharunt annihilape and sinistcha stop tauros from clicking its stab freely, and can tank coverage hits

**Entry Hazards**: Entry Hazards severely limit the amount of opportunities Tauros can get to switch-in. Tauros relies on offensive pressure and pivoting in order to break through its defensive checks, making entry hazards the easiest way to hamper its effectiveness.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Due to Tauros mediocre defenses and lack of resistances, Pokemon that outspeed it can deal it massive damage. Considering how easy it is for Tauros to accumulate chip damage, as mentioned in the scenarios above, it is easily revenged by faster Pokemon.

**Raging Bull**: Its signature move Raging Bull, although weaker than a sheer force boosted Body Slam, can be useful in matchups where Tauros may need to break screens.

**Facade**: Tauros can take advantage of status, especially in the case of burn from Will-O-Wisp or Flame Body, by punishing opponents with a powerful STAB boosted Facade.

Checks and Counters

**Physical Walls**: Despite being its selling point, Tauros still lacks the physical power to break through Physically Defensive Walls. **Entry Hazards**: Entry Hazards severely limit the amount of opportunities Tauros can get to switch-in. Tauros relies on offensive pressure and pivoting in order to break through its defensive checks, making entry hazards the easiest way to hamper its effectiveness.
