Hexagons represent armies, Doritos represent fleets

Important Notes:
  • Please follow all Smogon and Circus Maximus forum rules, both here and in the Discord.
  • The game will use the War in the Americas variant map made for ten players.
  • Orders should be given to me privately on Smogon or Discord before each specified deadline. If you fail to do this, it will be treated as an NMR (No Messages Received) and all of your units will hold in place.
  • Spring and Fall order phases will last for 72 hours each after the previous results have been posted in the game thread. Retreat and build phases will last for 24 hours each. Deadlines will not be extended to accommodate late order submissions, but the game may be paused for a certain period if at least 2/3 of Powers vote for it.
  • If you submit orders that are invalid/impossible somehow (for example, if you ordered an army from Bogota to Chicago for some reason), I will point this out and give you an opportunity to correct it or keep it as is. Invalid orders will be treated as if no order was given at all. Also, why would you ever want to go to Chicago?
  • If you miss multiple phases of orders in a row, I will sub you out or find you a partner to help you finish the game.
  • You are not allowed to screenshot OR copy-paste chat logs for use in the game. If I catch someone doing this, they will be warned and then subbed out if it happens again.
  • Above all, PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH THE HOST DURING THIS GAME. In the last game I used a polished, purpose-built application (Backstabbr) to easily process orders and adjudicate the game in line with the rules. However, no major Diplo site supports WITA sandboxes, so I am forced to manually edit the locations of every unit in each phase via Inkscape, and I will also have no help with properly resolving orders. As a result of this, mistakes will happen. Please point it out when I get something wrong, and I will correct errors as they come.
=====================================

Deviations/clarifications from the standard rulebook:
  • In addition to the standard spring, fall and winter phases, each phase will also have a "twilight" period after each deadline that I will use to resolve orders and update the board. This may last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, it depends on the complexity of the orders being processed. Powers may not submit new orders during twilight.
  • Rather than the standard "rulebook press" system, in which negotiations between players are not allowed during builds and retreat phases, negotiations will always be allowed regardless of the phase. I've made this change after feedback from our previous game, where players took issue with the restrictions of rulebook press. However, negotiations will still be prohibited if the game is paused due to a vote.
  • If a Power wishes to end the game in a draw, that player must propose a draw vote that outlines which Powers will be included as draw partners; draws do not have to include all Powers that are still in the game when the draw is proposed. However, all surviving powers must agree to the draw proposal for it to end the game, even if the proposal does not include them as a partner. In addition, the Powers included in a draw must have enough combined supply centers for a solo victory if they were held by one Power (24 in this case). Again, this change comes after feedback from the previous game, which turned into a grisly display of what can happen when draws are forced to include all survivors. Draw votes will be conducted by secret ballot.
  • Once a Power is eliminated from the game (defined by their supply center count reaching zero at the end of an in-game year), the player(s) from that Power are no longer allowed to influence the game via private negotiation channels; their access to them on the Discord will be revoked and their Power-specific channels will be locked. I meant to enforce this in the previous game, but was unable to do so because LonelyNess is a horse-kissing rules lawyer /s

Spring 1841 Moves
The 1840s are an exciting time for warfare! Boats are starting to use metal for once, armies are bigger than ever, and there are a bunch of relatively young countries in the Americas that want to duke it out like their European forefathers did! Britain and Spain must be proud parents; in fact, they're enjoying the sight of this brawl so much that they want to get in on it themselves! The results of this war will be nothing short of riveting. Something to note is that everyone's moves went through this season with one notable exception in Orinoquia; the involved Powers could've arranged that bounce, but there's no way to know for sure.

It is now Fall 1841. Orders should be submitted to me by Wednesday, July 17th, at 9PM PST (GMT-7).

GM's Notes:

I knew manually GMing with this map via external software would be difficult, but it's even more stressful and time-consuming than I expected. You guys will need to be patient with me during these deadline evenings while I work everything out and double-check everything for polish and mistakes. Thanks in advance.

Corrections:
  • In the version of the map shown in the OP, Chile is shown as starting with an army in Talcahuano. This was inaccurate, and the map is edited from this post onwards to correctly show a fleet.
  • The New Granada move of A Cartagena-Cali does not have a movement arrow attached because I forgot to add one. The move was correctly processed despite this error, and that army is now in Cali.
  • The Mexican move of A Guadalajara-Sonora is not reflected in the updated game map, but the order was made and is correctly shown on the movement map. There is currently a Mexican army in Sonora. Shoutout to LonelyNess for catching this one!

Chile has gained control of Antofagasta, Easter Island, and Patagonia (+3 builds)
Peru has gained control of Ecuador, La Paz, and Santa Cruz (+3 builds)
Spain has gained control of Bahamas, Santo Domingo, and Yucatan (+3 builds)
United States has gained control of Chicago and Texas (+2 builds)
Venezuela has gained control of Georgetown and Manaos (+2 builds)
Argentina has gained control of Asuncion (+1 build)
Brazil has gained control of Uruguay (+1 build)
New Granada has gained control of Panama (+1 build)
Mexico hasn't gained or lost any supply centers this year (0 builds/disbands)

It is now Winter 1841. Build orders should be sent to me by Thursday, July 18th, at 9PM PST (GMT-7). As a reminder to those who played/spectated the last game, negotiations between Powers are allowed during build phases this time.

GM's Notes:

For some reason, island supply centers like Easter Island and Bahamas cannot be manually filled in on Inkscape. The reason for this eludes me. I'll keep trying to find a solution, or at least find some other way to denote the ownership of these centers like scribbling.

Well that was a fun first year, wasn't it? You can really tell how the relationships between Powers are evolving based on who the neutral centers went to. Always riveting stuff! Here's to hoping all the players continue to give us an exciting experience AAAAAAAAND Britain NMRed. Great.

Spring 1842 Moves
Sorry for the delayed update, I've had a heck of a weekend. Anyway, it looks like there are a lot of hold orders and red arrows on this board. The only exceptions are, curiously, the Spaniards, Brits, and Peruvians! I wonder what their motivations are for making exceptions to what appears to be a board-wide agreement?

It is now Fall 1842. Orders should be submitted to me by Thursday, July 25th, at 9PM PST (GMT-7).

GM's Notes:

There was a large amount of arguing in the Discord over how the British NMR during Winter should be handled, and since I wouldn't allow sunny to enter his builds after the fact, the players have sought another solution. Seeing this response to the situation is extremely cool, and a great example of how you can exploit the motivations of the players around you via negotiation to overcome adversity. I fully expect that aska could've accomplished this as well if he hadn't chosen to sub out.

Corrections:
  • On the movement map, the Argentinian A Chaco Austral does not have a movement arrow despite being ordered to Uruguay. The move was properly processed, however, and the unit still remains in Chaco Austral regardless.
  • EDIT: The New Granadan A Caqueta was marked as holding in ImaginaryNeon's initial set of orders, but he later modified the order set to include A Caqueta moving to Loreto, which I missed at the time. As a result, A Caqueta did move to Loreto and bounced the Peruvian A Cuzco, meaning both armies remain where they were at the start of the turn.

Fall 1842 Moves, Part 1
After two years of play, a large part of which has consisted of holding in solidarity for Great Britain, we finally, FINALLY have our first dislodgment and our first taste of real conflict! Let's get some fucking WAR going, baby!!!!!!!!

Fall 1842, Part 2: Chihuahua Choogaloo
Well that took a while longer than I expected! Sadly my editing speed cannot keep up with M2H's sleep schedule. I will strive to move the lil' units around faster. In the meantime, here's the board after that retreat order:
lexVysr - Imgur.jpg

RETREATS:
United States A Texas retreats to Chihuahua

SUPPLY CENTER CHANGES:
Great Britain has four unused builds saved from 1841 (+4 builds)
Spain has gained control of Charleston and Haiti (+2 builds)
Mexico has gained control of Texas (+1 build)
United States has lost control of Charleston and Texas (-2 disbands)
All other Powers spent most of their time idling, and thus have no adjustments for the year!

It is now Winter 1842. Builds should preferably be submitted to me by Friday, July 26th, at 9PM PST (GMT-7), but due to the retreat phase cutting into build time I will extend the deadline if necessary.

GM's Notes:

I should stress that I did not demand everyone idle so Great Britain could get their builds from 1841; this came about as a result of an agreement made by players, and agreements made by players can also be broken by players. That's Diplomacy. I think many of the players on this board will learn important lessons from the events of this year.

  • None! Please report any inaccuracies to me if you find them.

Winter 1842 Builds
Britain gets to put their stuff down, the US gets a knife in their back, Spain gets a target on theirs, and Mexico gets a band of Texan raiders! Seems like quite a few players have some fun Christmas gifts this year... the south looks rather static, though.

It is now Spring 1843. Powers should submit orders to me by Monday, July 29th, at 9PM PST (GMT-7).

GM's Notes:

The American disbands seem positioned to try appeasing Great Britain, although they may regret pulling their only fleet in light of Spain's massive growth. Whether sunny decides to help or hinder his northern neighbor will have a dramatic effect on the balance of power in this game! Spain is effectively the board leader right now, as they only have one less unit on the board than the thinly spread Britain, and that could provoke a board-wide response, but different players respond to power disparities in different ways. Looking even further south, I'm excited to see what all of those Chilean armies will get up to... Lechen's diplomatic maneuvering to three builds was an underrated storyline in 1841.

Spring 1843 Moves, Part 1
Following the end of the (mostly) observed 1842 ceasefire and the sudden groundswell of Spanish influence in the north, the board begins to react in some exciting ways! Meanwhile in the south, many fronts remain calm but there seems to be a war brewing with Argentina as the prime target, as well as the subject of our dislodgment for this phase!

Spring 1843 Moves, Part 2: I Fell Asleep Boogaloo
Sorry about the delay. Here's how the board looks after our retreat:
b72tajr - Imgur.jpg

RETREATS:
Argentina F Rio de la Plata retreats to Corr.

It is now Fall 1843. Powers should submit orders to me by Friday, August 2nd, at 9PM PST (GMT-7).

GM's Notes:

I need to find a way to make convoys look better, the arrows I used for the Peruvian convoy this phase did not come out very well. I also must note that updates will be a bit more inconsistent in their timing for the next couple weeks because I'll be on vacation; I'm announcing it separately in the Discord as well. In other news Venezuela seemingly didn't get the memo that the "hold everything" agreement is officially over!

Corrections:
  • Deadline is on August 2nd (it was previously shown as July 2nd). Thanks AG!

A lot of fighting in the south, a lot of holding in the center, and a little bit of both in the north! As the game's third year draws to a close, we can very clearly see who is making progress and who isn't.

SUPPLY CENTER CHANGES:
Great Britain
has gained control of Chicago and Guatemala (+2 builds)
Mexico has gained control of New Orleans and Oregon Country, but lost control of Veracruz (+1 build)
Chile has gained control of Buenos Aires (+1 build)
New Granada has gained control of Hawaii (+1 build)
Peru has gained control of Galapagos (+1 build)
United States has gained control of Veracruz, but lost control of Chicago and New Orleans (-1 disband)
Argentina has lost control of Buenos Aires (-1 disband)
Brazil, Spain, and Venezuela have not gained or lost any supply centers this year, so they have the winter off!

It is now Winter 1843. Build orders should be submitted to me by Saturday, August 3rd, at 9PM PST (GMT-7), but I will be flexible on that due to my IRL issues with update scheduling right now.

GM's Notes:

Spain and Great Britain maintaining a stable peace like this is quite unusual, and I can't help but wonder if it'll last if there are no U.S. dots left to gobble up; however, stranger things have happened. Argentina's also in a rough spot, although they at least still have their units in places where they can cooperate. It also appears that just about everyone is eyeing that juicy Panama Canal; Britain, Peru, and Venezuela all put fleets adjacent to it this year.

Last year, everyone held their units by agreement; this year, people seem to still be in the habit of issuing hold orders from that, which is quite a bad thing. Holding is the worst thing you can do with a unit: before you issue a hold order, think long and hard about what else that unit can do.

Corrections
  • The Spanish F Florida actually moved to Charleston instead of holding; this is not reflected on either of the maps because it was a late addition, but I will be reflecting it in the winter update's map.
