not to be pretentious but yall should really read this… C.H.A.T. (Come Here for All Talk)

this reminds me. if you have kids (like anyone who plays competitive pokemon will get married) that are young and acing their classes, make sure they are being challenged. if they dont have to try for their early classes, they wont learn how to put effort in. i read at a high school level in 5th grade, 7 years later and nothings changed. i have no work ethic, and am probably going to work at mc donalds. dont let it happen to your kid.

There's something that's been bothering me for some time.

Ok, so there's this game that gets advertised on Youtube a lot. It's one of those games. You know the ones. One of those hideous-looking shovelware mobile things where the ads feel made by bots. No voice acting, no cinematics, just stilted characters in bizarre, often sexually charged scenarios. You might know what game I'm talking about, but because I refuse to dignify it I will simply refer to it as Game X.

So yeah, Game X looks pretty bad and the ads, whenever they do show up, get on my nerves. But hey, I can't get too invested by the whole enterprise, because in the end it's just another obvious online scam. Anyone who isn't an 80 year old geezer, some destitute bastard out in a trailer park in Bloodpit, Alabama or in any other demographic that would fall for AI-generated Elon Musk voice clips gassing up shitcoins will never bother with this. Thus, time goes on. Game X becomes white noise.

And then, I wanna say a month or two back, something very very strange happened. I got another ad for Game X, except this one was a professionally produced 2D animation. And you know what it was advertising? A crossover with Tomb Raider. Featuring Lara Croft.

I have not been able to stop thinking about this ad. The implications of it are hard to fathom. It's not that the obvious scam has made a lot of money - that's all too predictable. What's truly mindboggling is that it suggests these dogshit ads, someway, somehow, have attracted way more than just the aforementioned lowest common denominator listless losers. Unsettlingly large quantities of people who have played actual videogames, people who can recognize the significance of Lara Croft as a character and get excited for her inclusion, have somehow looked at this slop and said to themselves "Wow, this looks like a good piece of electronic entertainment, I gotta play this!". And before you say "ipad kids" as a proposed solution, that would only make sense if they had chosen to crossover with a mascot horror franchise or something. What Little Timmy or Little Janey in [current year] gives a fuck about Tomb Raider? And that's before you start wondering what is going through the heads of the current holders of the IP to want to associate themselves with this rabble.

What the hell is going on? Is there some other explanation for this I'm not seeing?

forgor to change my pfp bruh

Naw Twitter is def viable for art in a cynical way, you just gotta draw a character in a meme and boom you win a fanbase for a day

Do this over and over and get five trillion followers, up your commission price, GG
Which is not fun. At all. Everytime I see a twitter artist get big I am like: there isn't anyway they will last.
One of the reasons that the current internet does not vibe with me is the value of popularity. It isn't about what you want to do. It's what the people want to see.
Again what local dog said, there is not a place for artists to grow. And that sucks!!
Twitter and Instagram and Deviantart, shit beyond recognition.
Newgrounds? Too niche.
However it is not all doom and gloom. Discord is really handy if you want to cater to a specific fandom. It is also why I mainly only post my art there. There's no algorithm to judge whether people will even see it. It's always there.

I've been a writer, a programmer for games, and I'm also learning art right now. One day I'm gonna get into music. One of my goals in life is cliche, but it is to make my dream game. I've never hit a point however where I've said "If I could turn this into a job but have less fun, I wouldn't take it", because I absolutely would. I just enjoy the craft of making things. This isn't to say my goals are money, but that making money would be great, even if it came at the cost of personal projects.

From my perspective? The place to grow is having friends and asking them about your things, or Discords based on growth.

If Twitter doesn't work for you that's totally fine, but I'm never going to say these things aren't an option, even if I wouldn't necessarily take it as an option.

>Be Ganondorf
>Be the second biggest nintendo opp with 35 years of weapons to tussle with link
>Get into smash
>Moveset copied from captain falcon
>Be the worst character for 3 games running
>Surely things have to go up from here
>Gets a sword for each smash attacks
>Still one of the worst characters.

I've never played a zelda game, but I can say ganondorf doesn't deserve this. They couldn't think of giving him anything else?! Lets be real...

He's not even close to being the worst character in Melee, though he is an inferior clone of Falcon. People have actually done things in tournament with Melee Ganondorf.

I think replacing Smash Ultimate Ganondorf is a big mistake. In a lineup full of irritating yet replaceable gimmicks, Ganondorf stands out as a pure expression of power. A well-played Ganon is terrifying and suffocating, menacingly creeping towards you to shut you down with lightning fast, bruiser aerials and closing in with terrifying deadly burst options from range. Smash Ganondorf is iconic and super fun to play as and against.

He is bad in high level competitive play. However, that doesn't need to be important – 95% of you don't play competitive play, so it's not a huge deal for you. His limitations might honestly be a good thing – one of the reasons Ganondorf is so hype and easy to root for is because, when you lose to him at high level play, you have no excuses. Ganondorf isn't cheesing you with some silly gimmick in the way guys like Lucario do (surprise i have 999 power now) or Incineroar does (hehe you attacked me and I used a frame 3 armored option to beat it, have fun taking 50 damage from my next attack). With losing to Ganon, you just got outplayed by a character with worse tools than you, so you have to live with the notion that Ganondorf didn't just secure a win, he dominated you on an emotional level. Isn't that perfect for the character of Ganondorf?

When I think of characters that have super unique or representative movesets, I think of Olimar, Mega Man, Min Min... not exactly an enviable group of fellows in terms of fun and/or game design, and not experiences I want to replicate. If people want a different kind of Ganondorf, I'm a little sympathetic, and it could be done well. But please make him a new character and don't wipe out the existing guy, who so many know and love, for a guy that will probably be less fun to play and less fun to play against.

Regardless of what you're take on gannondorf is, I think we can all agree that his neutral b and up tilt are super garbage moves that have no reason to ever be clicked and the character would be vastly improved if neutral b was replaced with a projectile and up tilt with his smash 4 up smash or something.

Remove one of them, two funny delete moves is redundant. Having one is funny and on brand and something silly to fish for (and generally his best shield break punish), but a functional up tilt would be nice.

Please don't give him a normal projectile. He's fun and not a nuisance because he has to work to get in with his body. Even forcing you to shield constantly with a Falco laser would simultaneously not make him good and make him considerably more annoying. A weird, slow projectile like Byleth Arrow or Corrin Dragon Fang Shot, maybe.

Uptilt being his similar to his Smash 4 up smash is interesting

I agree on some levels, my brother mains Ganondorf, and plays him quite well. When he's not tilted, he actually poses some level of threat and is far more fun to play against than someone like Lucario, or min min.

my smash bros take is i think its in a place where

1. the crossovers still doesnt make it a "celebration of gaming" especially since almost all the dlc picks in ultimate are just paid ads

and

2. the crossovers actually demean the idea of it being a nintendo fighting game

its been in a place since dlc2 in ultimate where it feels like 90% of the characters that matter arent even nintendo, and we got so few new nintendo reps in general

im a splatoon fan so im biased, bc despite our series blasting into the stratosphere with 6 million sold copies on wii u to 14 million for splatoon 2, smash only gave us a character based on splatoon 1

dlc never gave us Octolings, we never got any other characters, we have 1 rep

and we're pretty lucky that we got a rep since tons of old nintendo franchises still dont get anything lmao

The Fire Emblem characters will continue until morale improves.

i actually prefer fire emblem characters over third party characters because at least they are part of the nintendo crossover

still def way too many

my ideal is something like this i think

I find this mostly tolerable, but Castlevania should get at least one piece of representation. It may not be an in-house Nintendo franchise, but pretty much every good and important thing it did was on a Nintendo system (except, ironically, the two games with Richter in them).
