In the vibrant and diverse Hoenn region, the influence of capitalism shapes the daily lives of trainers, citizens, and Pokémon alike. With its bustling cities, thriving markets, and unique ecosystems, Hoenn serves as a rich backdrop for themes of competition, entrepreneurship, and economic ambition.

Slateport City stands as a prime example of a capitalist marketplace. Trainers and merchants engage in a bustling economy centered around trade. The various shops and stalls—ranging from PokéMarts to artisan vendors—cater to trainers seeking the best gear and supplies. Events like the Slateport Market foster a sense of community while driving competition among vendors.

The Pokémon League in Hoenn operates not only as a competitive arena but also as a corporate powerhouse. Trainers battle for glory, while also vying for sponsorship deals and endorsements that can elevate their careers. This system mirrors real-world sports leagues, where commercial interests intersect with personal ambition, reflecting the value placed on success and the commercialization of talent.

Pokémon Contests in Hoenn create a vibrant industry around grooming and training Pokémon for performance. Trainers act as entrepreneurs, investing time and resources to enhance their Pokémon's appeal. These contests prioritize style and aesthetics, reflecting societal values regarding entertainment and competition. The outcomes of these contests illustrate the significance of performance in a trainer's career.

Gym Leaders and Elite Four members embody capitalist ideals, representing the pinnacle of success in the trainer economy. These figures are formidable opponents and influential community leaders. They utilize business strategies, from their specialized Pokémon types to promotional efforts in their cities, impacting the local economy and inspiring aspiring trainers.

Amidst the capitalist drive for profit, the Hoenn region's diverse ecosystems face significant challenges. The tension between economic growth and environmental sustainability is evident. Businesses must navigate the balance between profit motives and the preservation of habitats. Examples exist of trainers and companies that prioritize eco-friendly practices, showcasing a commitment to environmental responsibility.

Tbh I think the Pokémon world is more Libertarian than anything else. Small government with a weak police force and no military. Minimal if any taxes with most funding coming from voluntary Pokémon battles / the Pokémon league. The tiny amount of government investments come in the form of Pokémon colosseums, pokecenters, and whatever gym monstrosities the leaders construct. Many public services and private businesses are run down such as abandoned power plants, mansions, supermarkets, and so on. There is no public schooling. Most children don't even receive a real education, going on an adventure as a Pokémon trainer chasing a literal dragon hoping they can be one of the lucky few to make it and carve out a real living. Wealth distribution is atrocious with the rich living in a handful of mega cities while others live in poverty with dirt roads and wild Pokémon attacks to the point where raising your own Pokémon is mandatory if you wish to leave the city limits. Seems like capitalism is present in all the worst parts with mega monopolies like Silph Co producing pretty much all Pokémon trainer products with tiny small businesses (such as Kurt) scraping by a living only because he lives near a Gym.

As a main character we see the best of the Pokémon world but most people die in poverty or end up lost in a forest eaten by Beedrill. Honestly the Pokémon world has so many red flags. I think we just get exposed to it as a utopia because we see the world through the rose colored glasses of a child who was taught to see the world in this way.

Counterpoint: you don't have to pay to use the Poke Centers.

But yeah besides that it's Randian as fuck, also did you notice the champion of Hoenn is the son of the CEO of the biggest corporation? What a fucking nepo baby, no wonder he got to be champion with that dogshit team.
what's worse is that Mr. Stone's gay son gave the champion status to his gay lover (which I like to call "glover") so that he could go fuck off to a cave. what's he doing in there?
