Metagame SV OU Metagame Discussion v4

You've got the wrong Palafin in those calcs, the one that you will be facing after a single switch out would be "Palafin-Hero", and these are the actual calcs:

0- SpA Palafin-Hero Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Dondozo: 230-272 (45.6 - 53.9%) -- 46.9% chance to 2HKO

(Notice how I didn't even bother with a neutral SpA nature in there)

0 SpA Tera Normal Palafin-Hero Boomburst vs. 248 HP / 16 SpD Amoonguss: 186-220 (43.1 - 51%) -- 5.1% chance to 2HKO

So... Yeah lol

You're right, I did have the wrong form, so the techs are an effective lure.

They're still bad sets due to severely compromising the match-up into everything else, though.

Just use Hydrapple smh

252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Water Palafin-Hero Wave Crash vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Hydrapple in Rain: 173-204 (41.7 - 49.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

…oh. Am I gonna have to change my mind on Palafin…
I mean that still makes Hydrapple a counter, considering wave crash recoil it means Hydrapple will always tank the 2nd Wave Crash, get the Giga Drain and completely take out Palafin. With Giga Drain's healing + regenerator you'll still be in a fine position afterwards. Just hopefully you don't let Hydrapple get chipped below 67% beforehand

252+ SpA Hydrapple Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Palafin-Hero: 288-338 (84.4 - 99.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (34.7 - 40.8% recovered)

problem is that you basically need hydrapple + mola so you can actually get hp back without sacing a teammate every time. but yeah hydrapple at full or def invested works fs. just takes a diabolical amount despite being a quadres

edit: also if they predict and ice punch you’re cooked…

252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Water Palafin-Hero Wave Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo in Rain: 247-291 (49 - 57.7%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Water Palafin-Hero Wave Crash vs. 248 HP / 244+ Def Amoonguss: 228-269 (52.9 - 62.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Water Palafin-Hero Wave Crash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Toxapex in Rain: 202-238 (66.6 - 78.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Water Palafin-Hero Wave Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola in Rain: 313-369 (58.6 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Palafin-Hero Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Ogerpon-Wellspring: 290-342 (96.3 - 113.6%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

Let's allow another Mon to carry a playstyle, no one will have a Déjà vu with Archaludon, looks fun. :psywoke:
I feel like in practice, rain Palafin may struggle a bit because of the additional turn you need to pivot it out, giving something like the opponent's Raging Bolt a few turn to deal some big damage, kyurem to do whatever, etc. IDK how other players feel, but for rain every turn matters in order to not get overwhelmed, so I do think that will be a notable drawback for it. It'll be good, but I don't think it'll be the set that'll push fin over the edge or be much better than existing options like skewda and wellspring. Its presence will be great for Gambit though since its bulky and can revenge kill that mon with a rain boosted Jet Punch.

And really, rain is already carried by Arch 2, Raging Bolt. Mon is very unfair under rain lol.

hello? I’m calling to report an alt of a perma’d user, their name was AK?

I would say yes. It learns it via egg move in previous gens, which is grass/mineral. Quite a few mons in both egg groups learn it, so with SV's breeding, it should work.
It would also probably keep toxic as that it can also learn from an egg move. Probably wouldn't be used, but ferro would keep most things it already had lol.
It gets both Knock Off and Toxic through breeding in Gen 8

Yo, I gotta take a sec and just say how proud I am of our community for getting Palafin into OU! It took me a minute to get used to not having Landorus on my squad, but honestly... wait, hold up, let me think about this for a sec!

We'll be calling on your services, Tio Chico. Make sure to ladder and vote Do Not Unban when Palafin is dropped for its suspect test.

This just in, choice banded pokemon kills something with a super effective 120bp stab move

Honestly palafin seems like it’ll be fun and this gen is already so broken at this point that why not unleash hell

Why make the meta worse just 'cause you can? Also, the meta isn't as bad as you say it is. If we can keep Palafin out, we'd be making progress to an ideal metagame whereas Palafin dropping could set back tiering action for the rest of the generation, which would turn this gen into a complete and utter joke.

if this happens, it will need to get 60% unban votes, right?
Yes, that is correct. Palafin will need unban votes making up 60% of the total. Good thing the number is sufficiently high instead of 55% like a lot of people are proposing 'cause they were butthurt about the Kyurem (which would've been banned if not for the troll DNB vote from LoseToRU?), Gliscor, and Kingambit suspect tests.

the 60% supermajority actually doing something good for once, nice

The gen where half the end games come down to 50/50s with sucker punch is already a joke, just give me fun dolphin

Honestly I kinda hope something else picks up traction because its so obviously palafin that its starting to get kinda boring dumping points into it

Brazilians please flip the script, thus i’m helping their cause because it would be funny to see tera ban overtake palafin drop because a massive upset would be hilarious
