Standard Rules and Clauses
  • Endless Battle Clause: Players cannot use any moveset on any Pokémon capable of intentionally causing an endless battle. Thus:
    • A Pokémon may not carry Recycle and hold a Leppa Berry in conjunction with Heal Pulse and Milk Drink, Moonlight, Morning Sun, Recover, Roost, Slack Off, Soft-Boiled, or Wish.
    • A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry while carrying Recycle and Pain Split.
    • A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry while carrying Recycle and Fling
  • Evasion Clause: Players cannot use the moves Double Team or Minimize.
  • OHKO Clause: Players cannot use the moves Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, or Sheer Cold.
  • Species Clause: Players cannot have two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number on the same team.
  • Gravity Sleep Clause: Sleep moves with below one hundred percent accuracy may not be used in conjunction with Gravity.
Pokémon Restrictions
Players can only use Pokemon that are currently either obtainable in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet or transferable to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

it'd be really lame if nobody did predicts so i'm doing predicts.

(1) Frixel vs luisin (16)

Frixel has already won this round by asking for the extension. Luis will tire out and Frixel will claim victory. Really though, Frixel had solid runs in seasonal and swiss to follow up on taking home the OSDT title and is currently in DWC semis (don't ask me his record but surely he's won a game or two). Just seems like too much momentum to slow down while luisin squeaked in off tiebreakers. He did have a strong early year though with a good DPL and Ladder Tour, but everyone's strong in playoffs and this isn't enough to get me to bold the other way.

(8) Flying Beagle vs Akaru Kokuyo (9)

FB had a solid year for sure and I saw through DPL that they are clearly a competent player. Akaru has a lot more experience though and I rate his ceiling higher. This is probably at least their fourth or fifth time in circuit playoffs, not to mention they're also coming in with multiple years of SCL experience under the belt. That type of experience playing in high pressure situations just goes a long way. poto.

(4) Voltix vs bagel (13)

This is the highlight of the round for me. I think Voltix has leveled up significantly in 2024, but I think bagel will prevail. bagel generally seems a bit ahead in the builder, and I think the hunger to both repeat last year's performance and get some redemption for his world cup exit will be enough of a spark for him to take this.

(5) ratpacker vs Yoda2798 (12)

While I think he goes overboard sometimes, ratpacker is definitely one of my favorite builders to watch in the tier. When you have a pairing where both players are pretty comparable in skill level, team matchups are obviously gonna play a big deal in the outcome, and I think ratpacker will be able to overwhelm Yoda's traditional styles.

(2) MADARAAAA vs Yellow Paint (15)

Madara had the most impressive 2024 season out of anyone that didn't win an SV tour. Quite honestly he is my smart money to win this entire tournament (if I can't pick myself of course....). He's a great builder and player. YP had a strong start to the year but I'd probably bold Madara over anyone in this round.

(3) SMB vs sempra (14)

SMB won two of the five circuit tours we had this year. Seems like he's in good shape. Sempra obviously had an incredible OSDT and a decent SCL but if he wants to win he certainly can't rely on reusing that Kommo-o team.

(6) Hugo vs Actuarily (11)

Act has a knack for building and he is also one of the more active ladder players. I don't know if Hugo is a ladder player or not but he's the fullroom guy so it's giving me a similar vibe. Just think he's about to bring a knife to a gunfight and get punished for it.

Just to clear any potential confusion, my internet cut out for a bit right before/during game 1 so I played on my mobile alt "Porygon2" since "zee" is a 2fa'd account that's pretty annoying for me to get into smogtours with on my phone. Sorry and thank you to Ann for dealing with my shuffling around.
