Waterpon can lose to certain Tera options or Acrobatics, too. Encore usage on it is way up

And yea, I think BU sets have been best so far
Didn't remember it got Acrobatics too, mb there. Encore is awesome yeah (Because imo Encore is top 5 moves this gen tho)

BU sets seem a lot more solid yeah, I still think that mixed has a lot of potential

I've been using a max sdef assault vest on balance and bulky builds and it has been a very nice role compression for some priority and a bulky pivot (kind of like a bulkier scizor). I am low ladder but it brought me quite quickly to the 1500s and was fun to use. (This was also early in the test so teams were not at all prepared forbit yet)

OU is cooked

Haven't gotten time to use it but I feel like this set has some potential
Palafin-Hero (M) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Zero to Hero
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 216 HP / 108 Atk / 36 SpD / 148 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Jet Punch
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch

252 Atk Wellspring Mask Ogerpon-Wellspring Horn Leech vs. +1 216 HP / 0 Def Palafin-Hero: 192-228 (48.6 - 57.7%) -- 93.8% chance to 2HKO
+3 108 Atk Palafin-Hero Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Ogerpon-Wellspring: 738-870 (245.1 - 289%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I would have absolutely loved Palafin if it was more speedy cause i really like HO with super fast mons but I will try this later tonight

Palafin @ Life Orb
Ability: Zero to Hero
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Jet Punch
- Drain Punch
- Flip Turn
- Tera Blast

Well after learning yesterday that jellicent isn't in gen 9 (don't tell me you didn't make a similar mistake at least one time this or last gen) I have decided to replace throat chop with tera blast dragon. Ice punch might sound better as it hits more targets (especially lando and gliscor) but not only can you use jet punch to deal with those non dragon threats but tera blast dragon is more powerful against every ou ranked dragon except dragonite (because dragonite is 4 times weak to ice of course) and considering dragonite usually teras into tera normal after one turn it doesn't matter that much. Tera dragon would also probably have good neutral coverage as palafin can already hit fairy and steel types hard with jet punch and drain punch. I haven't been on since before the suspect was announced (in fact I just woke up from sleeping) but now I am ready to see how powerful palafin really is :D

This is only my first game using palafin (yes I am low ladder don't bully me) but I can already see some flaws to it. It can't beat rillaboom 1 on 1 unless it teras because of grassy glide as (though I haven't checked any calcs) palafin probably doesn't kill rillaboom with jet punch unless it is at pretty damn low health (like under 25%) and obviously grassy glide out prioritizes every other option it has.

I also find this Throat Spray set on a French Discord :

Palafin-Hero @ Throat Spray
Ability: Zero to Hero
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 108 HP / 176 Atk / 4 Def / 76 SpA / 144 Spe
Naive Nature
  • Acrobatics
  • Jet Punch
  • Taunt
  • Boomburst

Tera Normal Boomburst with +1 Throat Spray looks so WILD with Acrobatics and Jet Punch

I also actually try this bizarre set with Weakness Policy :

Palafin-Hero @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Zero to Hero
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Atk / 56 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Agility
- Wave Crash
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch

It's a Aurora Veil set. 56 + Speed outspeed booster valiant, This set is for outspeed Jet Punch immunity or resistance and sweep. It's pretty fun but slighty lack of power without Weakness Policy activation and wall by Oyacata and Primarina. I don't know if it's a viable set, but let's try.

I like Heavy Duty Boots 4A only because it has strong priority on balance for Iron Moth, Darkrai, and Kingambit. You can flip turn for days with Tera Water + good speed against potential checks.

I suspect this mon will pair very well with Meowscarada since that mon has nice coverage for most of the bulky grasses & waters finn can struggle vs.

Bulk up I've only found annoying on webs.

252+ Atk Choice Band Palafin Jet Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Rillaboom: 59-69 (17.3 - 20.2%) -- possible 7HKO
I wanted to check a calc just to see how powerful jet punch was against your standard rillaboom and I was so right about this doing shit all to rillaboom unless at low health.

252+ Atk Choice Band Palafin Wave Crash vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Rillaboom: 117-138 (34.3 - 40.4%) -- 44.8% chance to 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
This feels almost just as bad to look at. Rillaboom can basically switch in for free when palafin uses these moves.

I mean yea it’s gonna look bad if you’re calcing the forme with base 70 Atk.
Oh it wasn't hero form was it. Whoops sorry I will fix that later. For now here is a palafin game I am really proud of

Edit:
252+ Atk Choice Band Palafin-Hero Jet Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Rillaboom: 102-121 (29.9 - 35.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
Ok well this still isn't too bad tho wave crash is now a guaranteed 2 hit ko but I feel like that is expected considering 160 attack

U should not be proud of Palafin sweeping…. OU is cooked, I even saw some top players wanting to DNB it just because they don’t care anymore abt SV and want it to be « fun », let’s not ruin SPL guys, worst timing to run a Palafin suspect I’m not gonna lie.

Tbf I am pretty sure Finch said that this would only be legal on ladder but don't quote me on that

Think this set is pretty optimal for Bulk Up Palafin. I’m not good with EVs so if there’s something better tell me:

Palafin-Hero @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Covert Cloak / Itemless
Ability: Zero to Hero
Tera Type: Fighting / Ghost / Fire / Fairy / Poison / Dragon / Water / Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Jet Punch
- Drain Punch
- Taunt / Substitute / Encore / Acrobatics / Throat Chop / Tera Blast

Heavy-Duty Boots is good or Covert Cloak for Garg. First three slots are pretty mandatory and the 4th can be adjusted based on your team needs. Palafin can use a lot of Teras. I believe all the ones I’ve mentioned are actually pretty good for it and not just a random Tera I added to make Palafin look broken. Tera Fighting have STAB Drain Punch and resist Sucker Punch. Tera Ghost to beat Zamazenta 1v1 if you have Taunt. Tera Fire to set up on Dragapult while not risking a burn from Moltres. Tera Fairy is just a good Tera and paired with Tera Blast you can plow past Dragonite and Zamazenta. Tera Poison is to ignore poison so you can setup on Gliscor, Pecharunt, and Clodsire. Tera Dragon allows setup against Rillaboom and Meowscarada and can be paired with Outrage. Tera Water is just boosted Jet Punch. Tera Flying Acrobatics allows Palafin to easily KO Ogerpon-W and Rillaboom. However, you have to be itemless and Ogerpon-W still beats you with Encore if you had clicked Bulk Up. I think Tera Steel could be usable to ignore Clear Smog, but the vulnerability to Zamazenta may not be worth it.

I hope you have a terrible Christmas, Finch. No wonder people dislike this tier. Now we have dictators in Pokemon, too …as if OU wasn’t cooked enough before, you sickos had to go and add this trash just because you’re bored. Lame beyond lame. The lamest. Not P. Not P at all.
Fellas, is it dictatorship to let the public contribute to suspects rather than a behind-closed-doors council?

Can't you just disallow Palafin for SPL?

You realize that this is the only month of the year without overlap from OLT, OST, SPL, SCL, WCoP, or STour, right? This is pretty much the only window to do a retest.

Perhaps have an open mind and simply get reqs yourself if you feel strongly.

That doesn't seem good that we only have December for potential retest? That makes me more disappointed in us doing this instead of Tera blast because even if this doesn't take long enough to move back to kyurem instead of Tera blast we are effectively looking at a banned moth regardless for the rest of the generation?

Oh well.

Everyone is really overprepared for palafin at the moment. Outside of rain I don't expect much palafin oppression.

Dnb :p
