NU Thwackey

[OVERVIEW]

Thwackey's Grassy Surge enables the entire Grassy Terrain offense archetype and a variety of powerful Terrain sweepers, such as Oricorio-P, Uxie, and Hitmonlee. The Terrain it sets also supports Ground-weak sweepers such as Arcanine, Paldean Tauros-F, and Diancie while healing them. Thwackey uses Wood Hammer to chip down walls like Registeel and Alolan Muk that sweepers like Oricorio-P and Uxie have trouble with. It can also clean up games with Grassy Glide, picking off weakened foes like Cincinno and Swampert. Against opposing Psychic Terrain teams, Thwackey's low Speed is a benefit, as it underspeeds Indeedee-M on lead and sets its Terrain second. Thwackey's pure Grass typing benefits it against foes like Basculegion-M and Flygon but leaves it open to being taken advantage of by attackers like Munkidori, Alolan Ninetales, and Infernape. While Thwackey does have a decent Attack stat, particularly with Grassy Terrain-boosted STAB attacks, its niche is entirely on Grassy Terrain teams, as its stats make it simply incapable of standing up against the metagame on its own.

Thwackey can choose between power with Grassy Terrain-boosted Wood Hammer, which allows it to pick up OHKOs on Swampert and Vaporeon, and additional utility with Taunt, which allows it to deny entry hazards from foes like Bronzong and prevent walls like Avalugg from using recovery. U-turn allows Thwackey to cleanly pivot in its more powerful teammates while preserving itself to reset its Terrain later. Knock Off lets Thwackey hit foes like Chandelure and Hisuian Typhlosion and serves as useful utility. Thwackey can choose to run Terrain Extender to increase the duration of its Grassy Terrain, granting sweepers like Paldean Tauros-F, Grafaiai, and Diancie additional passive recovery and weakening Earthquake longer, or it can utilize Eviolite to boost its own bulk and thus survive to set its Terrain again later. It can choose from a number of useful Tera types; Poison gives it resistances to Close Combat from foes like Flamigo, U-turn from foes like Flygon, and Poison-type attacks from Munkidori and Alolan Muk. Tera Water allows it to resist Fire-type attacks from Chandelure and Incineroar while resisting Ice-type attacks from Inteleon. Tera Grass allows Thwackey to boost the power of its own Grassy Glide or Wood Hammer.

Thwackey's Grassy Surge enables a variety of Unburden sweepers, primarily Hitmonlee and Grafaiai. Setup sweepers like Oricorio-P, Oricorio-F, and Uxie will also utilize the Defense boost granted by Grassy Seed to boost more effectively. Cincinno pairs well with the two Oricorio formes by removing entry hazards for them. Torterra in particular benefits from Grassy Terrain, boosting its powerful Grass-type STAB attacks to immense heights while allowing it to use Grassy Glide to defeat foes that are faster than it after a Shell Smash. The boost from Grassy Terrain even allows +2 Tera Grass Life Orb Torterra to OHKO Bronzong with Wood Hammer. Stealth Rock Meteor Beam Diancie and Fire-type attackers like Chandelure, Arcanine, and Paldean Tauros-F also work well with Thwackey, using Grassy Terrain to weaken Earthquake and restore their own HP. These sweepers also appreciate Spikes to weaken opposing walls and break Focus Sashes, so Klefki works well and itself benefits from Grassy Terrain weakening Earthquake. These teams can also appreciate Eject Pack or Eject Button users to pivot while preserving HP on Thwackey. For this reason, Eject Pack Draco Meteor Flygon and Eject Button Galarian Slowbro can be useful teammates for Thwackey.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Thwackey can choose to run Swords Dance over Knock Off to further boost its Grass-type STAB attacks, but it gives up the ability to hit Fire-types at all. Low Kick can also be used to threaten Steel-types like Registeel and Copperajah.

Checks and Counters
====

**Psychic Terrain**: While fairly rare, Indeedee-M can remove Thwackey's Grassy Terrain and prevent its teammates from activating Grassy Seed. However, when both are entering on the same turn, Thwackey underspeeds Indeedee-M and ensures Grassy Terrain is set; furthermore, its teammates are generally less dependent on Grassy Terrain to be useful than Indeedee-M's are on Psychic Terrain.

**Fire-types**: Fire-types like Chandelure and Incineroar are common and can force Thwackey to switch out rather than pivot with U-turn, forcing damage on its teammates.

**Ice-types**: Alolan Ninetales threatens Thwackey with powerful Ice-type attacks and can set Aurora Veil to protect its teammates. Avalugg is an extremely bulky physical wall that can also remove Thwackey's Terrain with Ice Spinner.

**Flying-types**: Powerful Flying-types like Scyther, Tornadus, and Kilowattrel outspeed and threaten Thwackey.

Thwackey's Grassy Surge enables the entire Grassy Terrain offense archetype and a variety of powerful terrain sweepers, such as Oricorio-P, Uxie, and Hitmonlee. (line on how g terrain weakening eq lets it support ground-weak sweepers as well like arcanine, firebull, and diancie while also healing them) It usually carries multiple STAB options, with Wood Hammer to break walls like Swampert and Gastrodon and Grassy Glide to pick off foes weakened by its teammates (i like what this sentence is going for but make it more so like: thwackey can work away at walls that the sweepers its paired with usually struggle against [provide examples for both the sweepers and their checks] + it can clean up games too thank to grassy glide. it doesn’t need to be that exactly, but along those lines)

(it’s slower than indd, so in the 1v1, thwackey gets its terrain up)

(put a sentence on thwackey’s typing here—aka its good versus some wallbreakers like flygon & bascu but it leaves thwackey open to being taken advantage of by many mons like kilo, munki, alolatales, and infernape)

U-turn allows Thwackey to cleanly pivot in its more powerful teammates while preserving Thwackey itself to reset terrain its Terrain later. Knock Off lets Thwackey hit foes like Chandelure or and Hisuian Typhlosion and serves as useful utility. Thwackey can choose to run Terrain Extender to increase the duration of its Grassy Terrain, granting sweepers like Paldean Tauros-F, Grafaiai, and Diancie passive recovery and weakening Earthquake, (Do you mean to say that these sweepers get more turns of recovery and EQ is weakened for longer? You're otherwise stating the general benefits of Grassy Terrain.) or it can utilize Eviolite to boost its own bulk and thus survive to set terrain its Terrain again later. It can choose from a number of useful Tera types:; (ASC) Poison gives it resistances to Close Combat from foes like Flamigo, U-turn from foes like Flygon, and Poison-type attacks from Munkidori and Alolan Muk. Tera Water allows it to resist Fire-type attacks from Chandelure and Incineroar while resisting Ice-type attacks from Inteleon. Thwackey's Grassy Surge enables a variety of Unburden sweepers, primarily Hitmonlee and Grafaiai. The boost from Grassy Terrain even allows +2 Tera Grass Life Orb Torterra to OHKO Bronzong with Wood Hammer. Stealth Rock Meteor Beam Diancie (RC) along with and Fire-type attackers like Chandelure, Arcanine, and Paldean Tauros-F also work well with Thwackey, using Grassy Terrain to weaken Earthquake and restore their own HP. For this reason, Eject Pack Draco Meteor Flygon or and Eject Button Galarian Slowbro can be useful teammates for Thwackey.

Thwackey can choose to run Swords Dance (over Knock Off? Clarify on this since you mentioned Fire-types) to further boost its Grass-type STAB attacks, but it gives up the ability to hit Fire-types at all. Low Kick can also be used to threaten Steel-types like Registeel or and Copperajah.

Checks and Counters
====

**Psychic Terrain**: While fairly rare, Indeedee-M can remove Thwackey's Grassy Terrain and prevent its teammates from activating Grassy Seed. However, when both are entering on the same turn, Thwackey underspeeds Indeedee-M and sets its Terrain second; (RC, ASC) (Reword this so that it's not exactly the same phrasing as the one from the overview.) further furthermore, its teammates are generally less dependent on Grassy Terrain to be useful than Indeedee-M's are on Psychic Terrain.

Against opposing Psychic Terrain teams, Thwackey's low Speed is a benefit, as it underspeeds Indeedee-M on lead and sets terrain its Terrain second. Thwackey's pure Grass typing benefits it against foes like Basculegion Basculegion-M and Flygon but leaves it open to being taken advantage of by attackers like Munkidori, Alolan Ninetales, and Infernape. While Thwackey does have a decent Attack stat, particularly with Grassy Terrain-boosted STAB attacks, it's its niche is entirely on Grassy Terrain teams, as its stats are make it simply incapable of standing up in against the metagame on its own.

Set Details

Thwackey can choose between power with Grassy Terrain-boosted Wood Hammer, which allows it to pick up OHKOs on Swampert and Vaporeon, and additional utility with Taunt, which allows it to deny entry hazards from foes like Bronzong and prevent walls like Avalugg from using recovery.

Cincinno pairs well with the two Oricorio forms as well formes by removing entry hazards for them. Torterra in particular benefits from Grassy Terrain, boosting its powerful Grass Grass-type STAB attacks to immense heights while allowing it to use Grassy Glide to defeat foes that are faster than it after a Shell Smash. The boost from Grassy Terrain even allows +2 Tera Grass Life Orb Torterra to OHKO Bronzong with Wood Hammer.
