[SET]

The King Strikes Back! (Double Dance)(Calyrex-Shadow) @ Sitrus Berry / Lum Berry
Ability: As One (Spectrier)
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fairy / Grass
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Def / 60 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Modest Nature
⁃ Astral Barrage
⁃ Draining Kiss / Giga Drain
⁃ Calm Mind / Nasty Plot
⁃ Agility

[SET COMMENTS]

* With access to both Calm Mind and Agility, Calyrex-S can become a terrifying sweeper capable of outspeeding even opposing Choice Scarf Pokemon while maintaining exceptional power and good bulk.

* **Draining Kiss versus Giga Drain**: Draining Kiss and Giga Drain both provide coverage and a form of recovery. Draining Kiss allows Calyrex-S to threaten the Dark-types that would switch into Astral Barrage, while Giga Drain threatens the likes of Ursaluna-B more immediately.

* **Calm Mind versus Nasty Plot**: Calm Mind trades out Nasty Plot's more immediate boost to give Calyrex-S more survivability.

* **Agility**: Agility lets Calyrex-S punish switches to faster threats like Choice Scarf Koraidon, Miraidon, and Booster Energy Flutter Mane by suddenly outspeeding them and threatening a sweep.

Items
========

* **Sitrus Berry**: Sitrus Berry allows Calyrex-S to set up more safely in the face of threats like Ursaluna-B, giving it a better shot at a successful sweep.

* **Lum Berry**: Lum Berry lets Calyrex-S set up in the face of status users like Eternatus, Dondozo, and Gliscor, allowing it more opportunities to mount a sweep against bulkier teams.

Tera Types
========

**Tera Dependecy - High**: Although its base typing has advantages like an immunity to Extreme Speed, Calyrex-S will often need to Terastallize to maintain its longevity and mitigate its weakness against common threats.

* **Fairy**: Tera Fairy grants Calyrex-S a valuable resistance to Dark-type attacks such as Chien-Pao's Sucker Punch and boosts the power of Draining Kiss, allowing it to more easily threaten foes like Ting-Lu.

* **Grass**: Tera Grass strengthens Giga Drain's power, dealing solid damage to Ting-Lu and Ursaluna-B. It also grants Calyrex-S the benefit of resisting Miraidon’s Electro Drift and Ground-type attacks. However, it becomes more vulnerable to Ice-type moves like Calyrex-I's Glacial Lance and Chien-Pao's Icicle Crash and Ice Shard.

* **Water**: Tera Water grants a resistance to Koraidon's Flare Blitz and Scizor's Bullet Punch and can be used with Tera Blast to deal massive damage to threats like Ursaluna-B and Chi-Yu.

EV Spreads
========

* **172 HP / 252 Def / 60 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe with Modest**: With Sitrus Berry, this spread can allow Calyrex-S withstand Chien Pao’s Icicle Crash and Ice Shard. After a Calm Mind boost, it can withstand Choice Specs Miraidon’s Electro Drift, Choice Specs Tera Fairy Flutter Mane’s Moonblast, and Silk Scarf Tera Normal Ursaluna-B's Blood Moon after Stealth Rock damage. 20 Speed EVs allow it to outspeed Jolly Landorus-T before an Aglity boost.

* **124 HP / 100 Def / 252 SpA / 12 SpD / 20 Spe with Modest**: Maximizing Special Attack lets Tera Grass Giga Drain 2HKO Sitrus Berry Ting-Lu after a Nasty Plot boost and OHKO maximum HP Dondozo fifty percent of the time.

Feedback:
  • The Astral Barrage bullet is generic filler that we usually avoid, so I would remove it.
  • Agility: Koraidon and Miraidon don’t normally switch into Caly-S expecting to be faster, so I would clarify this further. Did you mean Choice Scarf variants here?
  • Tera Dependency: Other than the Extreme Speed immunity, Caly-S’s base typing isn’t usually considered good (2 double weaknesses.) This should be changed or clarified to explain why it is good.
  • Tera Grass: Astral Barrage is your best move into Clodsire, so mentioning it here doesn’t make sense in the given context.
  • First EV Spread: 20 Speed EVs outspeeds beyond Choice Scarf Caly-S by a fair amount. This would be considered Speed creep which is not allowed, though I suspect this is actually for Jolly Landorus-T before Agility boosts.
  • Second EV Spread: Small thing but I would specify max HP on Dondozo.
Work on these changes and QC can give it another look.

Wdym about 20 speed EV’s? This outspeeds choice scarf calyrex shadow which is beneficial ? And why is speed creep and not allowed? Cuz it’s broken and it’s cheating? Didn’t know about this?! *thinks*

If we speed crept in analyses there would be no end to alternate EV spreads to list. We give baselines and then you can tweak them in the builder to your liking

We have implemented these changes

Tera water sounds cool, but it's at 2.8%. Also, Tera fight blast hits the two targets specified in the water Tera bullet just as hard, and resists what chi Yu will use.

Are there enough strong reports for water that it should even be kept?

Yeah, it can also make Urshifu-R surging strikes less painful reducing it its impact damage.

And making ICE TYPE moves not effective.

We don’t know Is that ok or we should change it ?

Ok that's fair. Uh it's probably fine. I'll try to find high level reports to see if there are any.

EDIT: Didn't check for THAT long, but still seeing 0. Fairy, Grass, Ghost, even a stellar and a ground somewhere. But no water....

To clarify this further for you Matto, if the goal is to outrun a threat with a Speed of 100, the spread should give us a Speed of 101. We cannot "speed creep" just because the opponent might do so, for example; that is something the player has to decide for themselves and because it would convolute the EV spread section too much. So in summary, while 20 Speed EVs does outspeed Timid Calyrex-S after Agility, you already do that without the EVs, so mentioning it as the main target isn't valid.

**Tera Dependecy: Medium**: Although it has a good base typing thanks to its immunity to Extreme Speed, Calyrex-S will often need to Terastallize to mantain it longevity and mitigate its weakness against common threats.
While I used Extreme Speed as an example, I still don't think that is enough by itself to justify calling the base-typing "good." I would change the beginning to something like the following (also, I would say Tera Dependency is High since the lack of Focus Sash or Encore gives it little counterplay otherwise against common checks:)
Although its base typing has advantages like an Extreme Speed immunity...
Again, conventional knowledge indicates Calyrex-S has mediocre typing at best, and this would be more in line with what we already have on site for it.

Finally, a couple of housekeeping notes:
  • Matto ssj, please refrain from posting back-to-back; its not good forum etiquette. Either wait for the other person to respond or edit your previous post.
  • While discussion on the set should be had, this thread is not meant to be treated like a Discord chat. Beyond the initial posts, further "small talk" like the above should happen in the analysis channel on the BSS Discord as necessary.
Edit: Forgot to say this is 1/1 QC Approved once the Tera Dependency bullet change is made. Derpy, feel free to tag GP Team when you're ready.

on this note, I will give matto a pass as he is new here but Omastar68 you know about this rule and have been warned regarding it before. I would heavily advise you to not push your luck again if you want to be able to keep using this area of the forum

(I hope it's okay to add this bit to the thread after QC was given).

20 speed EVs ensures Calyrex outspeeds max speed unburden Adamant Sneasler after an Agility (344 Sneasler vs 346 Calyrex). That would be the main reason to run that little bit of investment.

However, I don't think people generally fully invest in speed on Unburden Sneasler but that is the only thing that would conceivably outspeed a speed-boosted Calyrex...

DerpySuX Matto ssj I think this is what the 20 Speed EVs are for. I just realized I erroneously guessed Lando-T since 20 Speed EVs are for base 135 mons, which Caly-S is higher than. This should be corrected when you get the opportunity.

Thank you for pointing this out, Slovami!

Thank you! :)

Also DerpySuX don’t you remeber that you need to change the 20 ev spread that outspeeds max speed unburden adamant snaseler 344 sneasler vs 346 Caly-S?!, Or it’s that fine?!
